I am precisely doing what you are, in that I also have Leningrad '42 but waited until I could get Salerno '43 and start learning the game system with it and go from there. Looks good and manageable. Great unboxing!
Thanks, Christopher! I'm still wrapped up in a couple of other games at the moment, but have made my way through most of the Salerno rulebook. The rules do feel very manageable, for sure. I'm hoping to get this to the table next week. :)
@@ThymeKeeper Point taken! :) I do like to sleep well, and just imagining a whole game of unclipped counters sitting on my shelf... yeah, not sleeping until that's taken care of.
Another excellent unboxing. I have Holland 44 which is a really enjoyable game and just waiting for Salerno to arrive. The affordable price seems to make this series very popular as well as the challenging nature of the games.
I've heard Holland '44 is one of the best in the series, yes. You like it a lot? I am very impressed with the blend of system and battle specific mechanics and rules. Really seems like a lot of thought and care goes into these.
@@ZillaBlitz Holland 44 is great fun, die rolls can be a killer, with weather & airborne landings and the the continual harassment and delaying the Armoured column at every turn, as you watch the airborne units overrun. The rule book was brilliantly done and made it reasonably easy to learn the game.
I ordered a bit earlier in the day, and when I checked later there were "3" orders. I imagine this will take a few months, but no hurry, the paper map will work fine for now. :)
@@ThymeKeeper I saw that! Nice! I'm actually 4 for 4 in the things in the next shipping update. This map, the two games, and the Stalingrad expansion. Whew, busy August! :)
Thanks for the video. In regard to the mounted maps, GMT halted their sale until all P500 orders are filled. There was a greater demand for the mounted maps than they anticipated. Therefore, they halted their sale until all P500 purchasers are satisfied with their maps (i.e. no damaged maps). Once GMT has an accurate count of how many mounted maps remain, they will put them back on the website. One per customer! First come; first served! This could be as early as this Friday (18th). Keep an eye on their website! Hope this helps. Cheers.
Thanks for the preview, like others mine will be arriving with other games later this week. I note your comment on the map and I agree, mounted map is the way to go. I was lucky to get in on the p500 of the mounted map. Given the discussion there will probably be another print at some point.
Nice! I think this looks very well done and should make for a solid addition to the series. I'm hopeful on the map, but it's not a huge deal either way. :)
I have almost everything. I need a copy of France 40. I've got that on the p500 reprint list ordered and I also have the Stalingrad 42 expansion also ordered. For true non solo war games, specifically WW2, Mark Simonitch is my favorite designer. Dean Essig, MMP, the SCS series is a close second.
After Sal 43, suggest Ukraine 43 then Holland 44. If you don't have these and I think your mentioned Ardennes 44. With Stalingrad 42, try the Caucasus scenario.
Thanks! I can't find Ukraine '43 anywhere (reasonably priced) so that one looks like it will have to wait for a while. I actually ordered Ardennes '44 last night. :) After exploring the components and rules on this one, I'm certain I'm going to really enjoy this series. :)
Supposed to be getting this delivered tomorrow. The weight of the box implies they didn't ship either this or Army Group Center, so we'll see. My table space is all taken up right now with Winged Victory and the vintage Rise and Decline of the Third Reich, but that gives me plenty of time to learn. I do have another table that is currently my "junk table" but I could probably fit Salerno on there if I got things squared away. I missed out on the mounted map. I'm not a huge mounted map maven, but it wasn't terribly expensive. I'm guessing some will show up on the secondary market at some point.
This is pretty light, so I think it could hide in a larger shipment. I'm not sure what the stated weight is, but it's light. :) Not a big deal on the map for me either, but I think this is a game that will see a good bit of action, and as you mention, the mounted map was affordably priced. :)
@@ZillaBlitz I decided to put Winged Victory away for now so I could at least have space to unbox everything, spread the maps out, etc. I suspect the weight difference is due to the weights not adding up the same when then send them out in one box versus charging for them individually. I have seen a LOT of unboxings and Facebook posts and I haven't seen anyone who didn't get everything in one box unless they ordered pretty much everything GMT was shipping, which some people definitely have.
Come on, GMT. Just use a separate reference card with all the counter stats on them and leave the counters with minimal information that is easy to read.
It's very telling about the bad state of wargame design when it's a feature to be playable in a single sitting. If a game is not playable in a single setting it's an automatic fail F. Other board games don't have this problem! I mean come on! Wargame design got into a very bad path decades ago and it has not been course corrected since.

Another awesome unboxing, well done sir.
Thanks, Hissy Cat! :)
The counters punch REALLY easily and cleanly. They don't need clipping IMO.
Interesting! Are they a bit rounded though? I really like the softer, non-square edges of counters.
@@ZillaBlitz Not saying you can't round to taste :). Just that they are clean and don't NEED it.

They have added a second printing of the mounted map to P500!
Yes, that's good news. I've ordered one. :)

Oh, thanks for the information on the maps. That's good to know. I'll keep an eye out on the site for the mounted map. :)
Really like the look of the map. Looks like the terrain probably plays an important part in this game.
Yeah, the mountains and the hills look to really make it hard for the attackers. Digging the Germans out of that terrain could be tough!
