I am exactly the demographic you speak of. This is my first hex and counter wargame and I'm hooked. Thanks for all the videos guys. You have sparked a love of this gaming genre in me.
Just need to express some appreciation for you fellas. Your videos are always great and were instrumental to me learning more about the hobby and gaining enough confidence to leap into it circa 2018/2019. You make things very accessible to those coming into it with a limited background in wargaming, and your optimism and enthusiasm inspires anyone who might initially be put off by the particular format and length of wargame rulebooks. Keep at it, lads!
@MariaSowa-x6f I was very primed to enjoy that game, but I found the rule book to be impenetrable for me. It taught the rules entirely out of order from how you actually play, and (in my opinion) assumes a lot about a player's prior knowledge with these styles of game, which I don't think a rule book should ever do. That said, a lot of war game rule books have this problem. They "tell" you the rules, but they don't "teach" them. I got rid of the game, but I remain fascinated by the system.
Great vid as per normal! You two are becoming board war gaming legends. For the record, I'm not sure if that's a compliment or not 🤔, but it was meant to be, lol. 🇬🇧 🇺🇸
Any talk about expanding the game system to the Pacific? At $32.00 this is great value even with the one scenario and low counter count. Thanks for the post, men.
Nice work guys. Anyhew, I'd like to see more about this game on your channel. I know it can be challenging, a play-through maybe? Smaller map and fewer pieces make it a possibility. I'm a bit disappointed with my copy of the game as the map was chewed up, bend and holes in it. I suspect my map was at the bottom of the collating pile and it suffered for it. I suspect I'll get my replacement at some point.
Had no idea Mark had hinted at "next steps" games after Salerno. Can't wait! I see people divided on whether this one is good for beginners or not. The small map and low counter count is a definite plus, but I'm wondering if beginners would get frustrated by the terrain and "claustrophobic" feel. Trying to think back to when I started, and I think I craved open spaces and quick combat.
Yep, I have to agree entirely with what you say - an excellent game, from an excellent series of games. Just wish I could find a second ed' copy of Ukraine'43 for a reasonable price!
Excellent review and breakdown! Do you think this would make a good first hex and counter game in this system? Edit: I posted this before I finished the video. Sorry you did answer my question. Yes!
Funny moment when Grant busted out AGC. I'm punching it while watching this and am making the effort to learn it. While it has a ton of counters, it also has quite a few small scenarios!
Now I hold you two responsible for the high expense of me buying Salerno 43 with mounted map. Plus Twilight Struggle w/plastic pieces. First games in years. Y'all should be ashamed of luring a susceptible man into hitting his credit card so hard! 😂

This was such a great review. I just ordered it based on this video. Will be my first of the 40x games. Thanks for your work.

Excellent design and balanced game by Mark Simonitch. Hopefully new one in series gonna be at least that good❤

I'm a huge Simonitch fan but I also agree that this is a great little game. My favourite of his is Ardennes so I really encourage you to check it out.
Added to my list!! :) Exchange rate to Japaese Yen is crippling at the moment :(
