in the speedrunning discord we kinda focus on both glitched and glitchless challenges at the same time; everything is fun to exploit :D you would be suprissed of how nuts this challenge is with wrong warps too
The one room in Faron is the highlight of the challenge. Great use of almost the entire room and a single echo. You found its niche and used it perfectly.
We've been experimenting with this challenge over in the speedrun discord and a lot of these exact tricks have been found already; if you found a lot of this stuff on your own, that's really impressive! The bombchu trick (that I discovered a few weeks ago to skip the Lanayru room) in particular is really useful; you can use it to skip the first half of Eldin's boss room without messing with the pots. Some echo skips/timesavers you missed: -You can fall in through the ceiling to reach the room with Conde, skipping the first icicle. For the second icicle, you can position a spear moblin in the room right before conde (which you can backtrack to) right next to a torch after making yourself an ice block bridge from the north door, and then fall in between the spear moblin and the torch to make the game realize you're stuck and respawn you back at the last safe ground(in which case, the door) while still being lit up by the torch , which gives you enough time to run north and melt the ice while being on fire. -Someone on the discord found a way to use a bed to pick up the crate in the water in the castle passage, allowing you combine the echo to get out of the water with the echo to remove the crates blocking you by throwing the crate at the other crates. -You still solved it in one, but you can do the Faron Temple one with a Lava rock; throw one of link's bombs on top of the lava rock to lower it far enough, then pull the lava rock so that it gets caught between the scale and the ceiling to the right. From there, you can bind with the armos from the peak of your jump and do is normally (using the lava rock as an extension of the wall to the left so you don't get stuck beneath the ceiling). Skips the nuance of the beetle mound. -You still cleared it in zero echoes, but reaching the first cloud in Stilled Hebra 2D is trivial; just bind the chest to the right, and use it to zipline to the cloud. -The lava octorock in Hyrule Castle doesn't need the keese bind; you can position yourself near the center of the grate holding the octorock, then when the octorock is about to fire, move down. This gives you the right angle needed. -If you bind a Zirro from Death Mountain while it hasn't noticed you (and then jump off Death Mountain while it's caught on something so that it ends up directly above you), you can carry it anywhere and just press R to get incredible height. Enough height to skip the first cave of Hebra Mountain, in fact.
Wow, thanks for this great summary! I did discover all this on my own. But I figured I couldn't be the only person working on this. Some brilliant stuff happening on the discord... So sounds like 33 is what you're currently at? And sounds like you use Zirro to do the Hebra icicle skip? If I can get these tricks to work, do you mind if I publish them on my channel?
@@SwitchSummit 33 is what we're currently at, yeah. I'm impressed by your eldin boss key skip; we used a keese instead figuring that the octorock didn't give you enough time/height to cross the lava fall; I know that must have been frustrating to get right. If you decide to publish them, you should probably credit the following people, cause they were a big help in figuring this stuff out: Maikyu (for making the spreadsheet of each individual echo/getting an initial number of echoes and for generally spearheading it on the discord; the spreadsheet allowed us to focus down each individual one that could be saved; they also helped confirm/test possible saves themselves) Gunpowder77 for figuring out the bed trick to save the echo in the castle escape. Deedee (that's me) and tepiglikesbacon for figuring out the Hebra Icicle Skip; I realized lighting yourself on fire melted ice cubes (but couldn't figure out a way to reach the north door fast enough), while tepig discovered that you can respawn inside the door with the right setup to save the skip. If you decide to show off the chest bind in Hebra 2D or the alternate weight puzzle, I'd appreciate crediting me as well. I am a bit bummed that all the cool skips I thought I was really clever for figuring out, someone else figured out on their own. I guess the world has many clever people (or I'm not as clever as I thought I was, haha)
@dimipzc3420 Thanks - yeah I was a bit surprised too that the fire octo could reach, but once I got the timing down, it seemed somewhat consistent. I thought about the keese but figured there were too many other keese-based solutions already. I'll definitely give due credit if I feature any of those tricks. And I'd love to know if you guys figure out anything else. Haha there are a lot of clever people out there. Since I published this a bit blindly, I'm glad I didn't find out afterwards that I was off by several summons.
Echo 19 can be skipped by dropping into the cave from above. You can go to the Moblin camp to the east and bind a torch on top of the south fence. After lighting yourself on fire, use the invincibility frames to jump onto the fence, then onto the torch, then onto the tree. Head around to the north and you'll find a hole in the ground that leads directly to the room Conde is working in. Or you could like climb the ladder on the back platform and jumping on the tree is trivial from there, but then you have to deal with Moblins and stuff
My biggest curiosity about the game is beating echoes of wisdom using the automatons. They always seem so useless with all the other echoes you get, and even more useless given they can break and have to be repaired. Im curious if it was possible to beat the game using them. Including the slumbering dojo
I’m honestly surprised how many people say the automatons are useless considering that no other echos can do what they do. Maybe it’s because the first one you get, the techtite, *IS* basically useless. I used the slicing moblin and the firework octorock a TON after I got them. The moblin can take out a whole room of enemies in one swing; you just gotta spawn, wind, and pick it up to keep it safe while it winds up, and that doubles with helping to position it to get the most enemies in one swing. It’ll even hold at full wind up if the enemy is just out of range, so you’re usually not wasting a swing by repositioning. You have to do like half the possible challenges in the dojo to get the required item (which requires at least the first three dungeons beaten). When the moblin doesn’t work (like against bosses) the firework octo provides explosive DPS like nothing else, and again it’s a matter of picking it up and either pointing where you want it to fire or setting it down to the side while you swordsman the rest. The octorock just needs the fireworks item, which is a super easy quest you can do before the Eldin rift opens. So an automatons run can grab the octorock first to clear enough of the game to get the slicing moblin.
this is such a fun challenge idea! one of my favorite puzzles in the whole game was the heart piece in the deku jail that forced you to platform without being able to summon anything
1:32 in the speedrunning discord someone found a way to skip the boulder (your 4th in the counter): with some careful placement, you can from your echo bed grab the box and place it in the bed, then grab the box back once on the first floor layer, and with some more of those you can get the box to the top; you then throw the box to break one of the boxes in the line instead of having to use a boulder also i think someone managed to do the 9:13 room echoless too? don't recall any specific for skips others than the boulder one, but there has been some cooking in the min echoes usages channel there if you are interested shared the video there great job with the challenge! love to see more videos like this
Thanks so much! I'll have to play around with the boulder skip. I remember trying to pluck the crate out of the water but without success, so not sure what I did wrong. Oh if the 9:13 room has been solved, I'd love to see how that first gap is bridged. That room really bothers me.
18:00. I have done this battle so many time through a few playthroughs and the slumber training and never thought to just attack the eye while she is on the wall. I....I don't think I can call myself a fan of Zelda games anymore for this blunder. It's Gohma. Why would I not think that?
It was one of the most surprising things I learned from watching an any% speedrun. They just continuously dodge what it throws at you and then summon one sea urchin to beat it once it reaches the end of the track, lol. Apparently any amount of damage will do.
I wonder how different this challange would be with fewest tri triangles spent rather than fewest summons. So summoning a 1 cost summon is 1 triangle, but summoning a 3 cost summon is 3 triangles. At 16:40 you got past the seesaw using one 3 cost triangle; I wonder if it's possible to get past it using two 1 cost summons, or if completing optional rifts to level it to cost just 2 triangles is possible, and what other places the run would be different now that stronger echos isn't necessarely better than lower cost echos
Yeah this is a neat idea, and something I've thought about a bit. I think most of the run would be exactly the same. Although there are a few spots, like the one you mentioned, that would be open for new solutions.
I'm a bit curious about the minimum uses of the link form or ultrahand needed to beat the game. Like if there are any points beyond the like, two or three dark webs you need to cut down. I don't remember too many spots where bonding is mandatory, the usage with bosses seems largely optional. I guess there are plenty of statue moving puzzles.
I love the minimum summons idea. We already know that with glitches the game can be beat with one echo so that leaves very little room for speedrun routing. But limited summons has lots of potential!
@@armoroscott6438I think that has changed recently. I heard Gymnast talking about it during his run at one of the more recent events. I think it was the one for hurricane relief. I may be misremembering though.

I might've missed a bit but wondered if Wrong Warp would help you skip more. BTW, in terms of echoes (not summons) it's possible to complete the game with only the table echo (look up table%)
If I'm not mistaken, one bomb doesn't weigh it down enough. I tried laying multiple bombs, but couldn't even come close to getting down the ladder and over before they exploded.
I don't remember if anything is in the way of it in the overworld but there's a second entrance to the cave that conde is in north of his house that drops you into the room with the rift, if you could get into that entrance without a summon you'd be able to skip summon 19.
Lovely challenge idea! How about the opposite? How much can you achieve if you play the laziest Zelda possible, and use bind, reverse bind, and echoes for everything, from combat to movement? Be interesting to see how many times the game forces you to break these restrictions.

@@SwitchSummit Nice, I did it on my safe file by accident, you can enter before clearing any rifts, but not sure if it works 100%, I think on my playthrough I enter and exit the cave infront of condes house then went from above, it triggers the cutscene btw.
Do the separate Skorchill phases despawn echoes like with the Link fight? Otherwise, maybe you'd be able to keep both an cheaper ice echo and a cheaper fire echo (octoroks, maybe?) alive at the same time through the whole fight to bring down the count from having to keep re-summoning all those wizzrobes.
If you wanted to make this challenge 1 step harder do lowest cost (how many triangles) possible. This way instead of just using the bomb fish you experiment with the sea urchin strat. Also it might validate doing extra rifts to reduce costs of some troops for 0 or 1 additional summon.
I hope this is not the last I see of this challenge, I hope to stumble onto another video doing this challenge and seeing somebody do it in like 18 or so summons and being like WHAT?!? what happened to the other 18??? Also, a 100% version would be crazy, though it may be to early for this game to have one of those.
My first thought is a lot of parts of the game either very clearly require bind, or can quite easily be done without it. I'll give it some more thought though - it's an interesting idea.
Nope, still need to learn 10 echoes. And if you're doing 36 summons, you need to learn more than 10 echoes. Off the top of my head, more than one table would be required to break the crate during the castle escape. I don't think the beetle mound room could be cleared with a different single echo. Fire octo is needed for Hyrule Castle, but is redundant with Ignizol, and without Ignizol, the first Link battle would require a ton of tables. Zirro is required to save a bunch of bombfish, but I doubt it can be used under water.
Based on how things are laid out in your video, unfortunately it doesn't seem like there's any way to save enough echoes to make any of the automatons worthwhile. I would be interested to see a minimum summon 100% run though, since there are a lot of neat extra challenges outside the main dungeons that wouldn't make sense otherwise for a minimum % type run.
I still want to see fastest defeat all bosses no glitches you can use any in game method of going threw the game faster as long as its not a glitch but you need to reach and defeat ever boss.
I swear, you speak like every sentence is its own individual paragraph. (Not necessarily a bad thing, it just took me a while to realize why your narration felt so unusual.)
Counting the Beetle Mound echoe as one summon is totally legit. You did summon ONE thing. No controversy there.
I didn't even know that beetle mound was in the game😅
Agreed
Now this is an interesting challenge
I hope more people do challenges that are not "get the sign, do a glitch, skip the game "

What about minimum uses of Bind? Admittedly, I don't know how interesting it will be, and obviously the final boss will add lots of uses.
My first thought is a lot of parts of the game either very clearly require bind, or can quite easily be done without it. I'll give it some more thought though - it's an interesting idea.
Does this change the ten echo minimum?
He used beds and rocks in the castle escape, so yeah
Nope, still need to learn 10 echoes. And if you're doing 36 summons, you need to learn more than 10 echoes. Off the top of my head, more than one table would be required to break the crate during the castle escape. I don't think the beetle mound room could be cleared with a different single echo. Fire octo is needed for Hyrule Castle, but is redundant with Ignizol, and without Ignizol, the first Link battle would require a ton of tables. Zirro is required to save a bunch of bombfish, but I doubt it can be used under water.
Its giving smo min caps
Based on how things are laid out in your video, unfortunately it doesn't seem like there's any way to save enough echoes to make any of the automatons worthwhile.
I would be interested to see a minimum summon 100% run though, since there are a lot of neat extra challenges outside the main dungeons that wouldn't make sense otherwise for a minimum % type run.
That would be a neat challenge. There'd be a bunch more things to solve.
I still want to see fastest defeat all bosses no glitches you can use any in game method of going threw the game faster as long as its not a glitch but you need to reach and defeat ever boss.
I swear, you speak like every sentence is its own individual paragraph.
(Not necessarily a bad thing, it just took me a while to realize why your narration felt so unusual.)
>glitchless
Stopped watching there.
eh, you missed a lot of cool stuff in the game in the glitched challenge
both glitched and glitchless complement one another pretty nicely :D
I don't think a glitch run of this would be very interesting since it would just by an any% with only a few modifications.
