I'm an avid photographer with a number of expensive cameras but I also have the Mini 40. I just love the particular quality (or perhaps I should say the lack thereof) of the images that it provides and I use it a lot for family gatherings, like Christmas, to give a small stack of memories. Somehow it captures the moment of the gatherings better than a sharp and far superior photo from an expensive "real" camera can provide.
Nostalgia is a powerful tool. Photos from instant cameras just have that added nostalgia of childhood, probably because the instant camerasshare a similar quality to the poor quality cameras we had as children.
I’m a fan of this cam but I do agree - took it to a zoo/aquarium and shooting through glass makes it really hard to get a clear image without a massive flash mark - that and I was scared flash would hurt the animals
A tip I use to negate the auto flash, is to always keep some pieces of black electrical tape stuck to my camera case. Handy to stick a piece right on the flash when the lighting calls for it. No more washed out photos!

I just ordered one of these ( and 2 packs of 20 shots). I love the Vintagey look, and i remember how much fun i had with my old Polaroid One. Another thing i love about this, is the fact that it looks nice just sitting on your shelf or coffee table. Nice aesthetic in itself. I'm looking forward to just having some goofy fun with this, and maybe find a rustic looking tin to store the snaps in. 😂

i watched the instax how to vid of this from their channel, really didn't help me at all. it was more like an advertisement than of a how to video 😕 really glad to have found this. I just bought this camera last week
One of the major problems with the instant cameras was guessing the light balance setting before taking the shot although one of the other major improvements is the development time as instant cameras from around the 70s had a development time of around 3 to 4 minutes depending on the model and type of film but instant cameras have always been fun Family or party cameras dispite their limitations and various problems which is why that have been around for over 50 years or so
My question is what’s the mirror on the side of the lense? And also what happens if you cover the light the flash comes from🤔 Edit: never mind I’m now seeing the part of the video where they explain the mirror lol
Hi! I tried my first picture with Instax 40 and the film turned out completely white nothing developed. I tried it taking a picture looking outside my window in the early morning. Do you know what went wrong here?
I tried to cover the flash with my finger against a backlit subject and it gave a very dark sillhouette. I was just experimenting, indoors too, so I think it could be possible to get some good results if the ambient lighting conditions were right.

You'd have to experiment with it, as the shots could be blurry, unfocused, or underexposed. That being said some people like to stick colored plastic, tap, tissue, to get softer or creative effects

I really wish they would let you control the flash, choosing whether it's on or off shouldn't be a premium feature in my opinion.

My instax 40 flash does not work. Will try a new battery to see if that fixes the issue

I received the camera as a gift. So far I am enjoying using it- it is simple to use and the color photos have an interesting 70s look to them.

Pull harder it should work
One tip, frame your shots extra tight in the viewfinder, as the final exposure is wider than the image in the viewfinder.

Mine won’t turn on even with brand new batteries. I’ve put them on right and have contact.

Once you put the film inside the camera, don’t take it off unless the number shows 0. Or else you are going to lose the whole film
