Here is everything Eggman did right in that one scene: 1. He pointed a gun at Amy's head. 2. He told Sonic to give him the Chaos Emerald in Exchange for Amy. 3. He used that tactic against him and trapped him in the capsule. 4. He tricked Tails into telling him about the fake Emerald 5. He launches Sonic into space and apparently blowing him up. That was literally Eggman's greatest moment. Ever.
In lego dimensions shadow says"turns out revenge is not what Maria wanted, she really wanted flowers for the entire world , so we must look for the ultimate flowers'
Remember that cutscene when Sonic,Shadow,Tails,Knuckles, and Big came out of the portal,Shadow was holding a gun and Knuckles just knocks it out of his hands...maybe Knuckles doesnt want a sequel to Shadow the Hedgehog
Actually, since shadow was still in his super form, he probably could have survived the fall and reappear in heroes and "edgie the hedgie". Or sonic team was just getting lazier with the story.
I suppose that 'goodbye Sonic forever' was in reference to the fact this was the last Sonic Game on Sega's final console. And the fact afterwards, Sega felt they would lose control.
"Goodbye Sonic, forever." Yeah by goodbye Sonic they meant the fucking series because every game after Sonic Adventure 2 is hot steaming shit on a sidewalk on a beautiful Thursday morning.
I honestly don't mind the Treasure hunting stages. I definitely thimk they were better in Adventure 1, but I actually enjoy Wild Canyon and Pumpkin Hill. Some mech stagess can be fun as well. I enjoy Cosmic Wall and Iron Gate just fine and I think Mission Street is OK. I actually enjoy over half of this game, and I always had a good time in the Chao garden as a kid.
"The knuckle's stages are filled to the brim with the most extremely corny rap songs that... are admitteldly a guilty pleasure of a sort" That... actually yeah that sums it up pretty well.
If you listen carefully to Wild Canyon’s theme, you can hear the lyrics, “That Rouge, she’s sexy and smooth!” Yeah, that somehow got an ‘E’ Rating in the ESRB...mash that with Rouge’s multiplayer alt and yeah, Sega knew what they were doing...
Mizz Midnight Comic Sans is a type font that is imfamous for being overused. And became more imfamous for the fact that the game Undertale has a skeleton named Sans who's diolog is written in Comic Sans.
After watching the review again, I thought of something with Sonic being able to do chaos control for the first time somehow. If he's managed to use all 7's energy to become super sonic, it makes some sense he'd be able to tap into the other powers of the emeralds.
Mamaspeeder Shadow has more natural ability but I believe that Sonic has indeed had a bit more experience with the Emeralds so I guess that makes alot of sense.
NewController01 Sonic taught Shadow, as some of Shadow's quotes in the Final Hazard fight imply that he's never done it before. As for Silver, well Sonic was sharing his energy so he didn't *have* to know.
Silver does come from the future, maybe he's gone Super to defeat Iblis, like how in SA Sonic absorbs the chaos emeralds after Perfect Chaos uses them.
Sonic X the same thing that had Chris Thorndyke fixed Sonic Adventure 2's plotholes. That is why I hope some people can join Sonic Team who love Sonic and will improve the series.
Didn't Shadow also have the same fate in Sonic X? Why's Shadow always dying? Anyway, in the Japanese and Frence version, it's revealed that Shadow's alive. Christ, the canon Sonic universe is filled with plotholes.
Jane Ross I'm just gonna creep down in pumpkin hill it's not that sweet I know that it's here I can sence it in ma feet the emerald's power allow's me to feel
I can’t see a thing, but it’s around somewhere. I’ve gotta hold my head, cause i have no fear. I searched and i searched as i climbed up the wall. And then i started to fly! I went in deeper!
"Dr Eggman, so if you are not given supreme rulership over all of Earth, you're going to destroy it?" "Yes!" "You are aware that destroying the planet would leave you without a home and the debris from the destruction would probably also destroy the moon and the Space Colony Ark you're currently residing in?" "Uuuuuh..."
That's the point, his threat is so obviously empty. If he had said, "I'll wipe out cities until I'm made Supreme Ruler", OK. But he goes for blowing the whole planet up. Genius scientist, eh?
i think sonic paradox made a clip where eggman actually destroyed the earth. it turned out like this: shadow: "Idiot..." eggman (approx dialogue) "What are you talking about? The plan is a success! Now i can build my empire!" shadow: "And exactly WHERE are you going to build it?" eggman: "Oh..."
In Shadow the Hedgehog Eggman complains that he can't take over cities that get destroyed by the Black Arms..when in SA1 he wanted to blow up a city to build his own on top of the ruins and in Sonic Unleashed he cracks the Earth into pieces for the same purpose. Consistency isn't Eggman's strong suit.
SomeCallMeJohnny, you have some of the best Sonic reviews I have ever seen. Whilst there are no doubt issues with most of the games, you mention things that I completely forgot about over the years or overlooked and it is so refreshing to be minded of the little things you may have forgot. My only complaint with your channel my friend is that it's taken me this long to find it. Excellent entertaining content and I'm going to be watching a large majority of your videos as I've got a lot of catching up to do. Keep up the great work.
in the story's defense, it is possible that Gerald could have possibly hidden away and did the reprogramming after the fact, then was captured later down the road. That's really the only way that makes sense to me. And the fact that GUN is attacking rouge is because if they just stood by, it would be very suspicious to eggman as to why they aren't attack or just handing the emeralds over
RexVsGaming Although I see ur point, the game doesn't exactly explain it does it. The players can only base their understanding of what they know from the story.
my guess is he was always planning to use the ark to destroy the world because he's just a crazy fuck, but he used the idea of genetic advance and his granddaughter's disease as a cover up so he could get government funding. then they realized he was building a giant fucking laser cannon and his plan backfired
Another problem with the story in Sonic Adventure 2 is that they reduced Amy Rose to the stereotype of a young woman which is that she not only fawned over Sonic the Hedgehog, but probably because of that, she did nothing but wait for him to save her life while she didn’t do anything to fight back against Dr. Eggman. Which also goes against how she was portrayed in its predecessor, where yes, she did want Sonic to be her boyfriend when he never said yes to it, but at least she was self-aware that she was being a damsel-in-distress (by learning to be more self-confident like Tails in the same game, even though his character development felt stronger because he actually managed to teach himself to feel like a leader/hero) and even offered Sonic the Hedgehog the Hedgehog his seventh Chaos Emerald at the end of the game. And that’s what makes Sonic Adventure a game where Amy Rose was at least more likeable than usual. I mean, sure, in Sonic Adventure 2, she demonstrated the skills of Sonic the Hedgehog in the multiplayer of the GameCube remake and tried to find good in Shadow the Hedgehog the hard way in the last story, but that’s just giving her credit where credit is due in Sonic Adventure 2. The reason why I’m bringing her up is because she is another thing that could affect the quality of the game along with questionable plot holes. But at least SEGA did try to do some great things with the story in this game, like have Sonic and Shadow team up with each other and see good in each other even after they had a badass athletic speedster boss fight.
This game is solid.............. but I DEFINITELY disagree with the 90% of Sonic fans who say it's the best Sonic game ever. That honor goes to Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
***** hmm wow. I'm 25 and I seriously thought you were like 15 or something. Tell me, what is it you like about Sonic 06 more than the other games?? o_O
I personally think that Sonic using Chaos Control for the first time isn't that out of the ordinary because Sonic has had more experience than Shadow with with the Chaos Emeralds from turning super in the classic games, so him harnessing a new power from the Chaos Emeralds would seem like something Sonic would do eventually.
People say that Sonic Unleashed as a whole is bad because 1/2 of the game is good at best. People say that Sonic Adventure 2 as a whole is good because 1/3 of the game is good at best. . . .
Delta4280 Stil, it sounds like you're dividing everything by total enjoyment and not sections of each play style you may have enjoyed. This "only 1/3 of the game is good" mentality honestly needs to cease.
I agree completely, Adventure 2 has not aged well at all. Most of the Sonic and Shadow stages are good...everything else is either mediocre or just flat out bad.
When it comes to a high-speed playthrough every SA1(except Big's) level does that. When it comes to revisiting levels for that perfect score or secrets/power up, SA2 does that. They're both great in their own rights.
+coolman5242 Interesting that you said that, because the opposite is true for me. I like to explore SA1 levels and to just blaze through SA2 levels as fast as I can.
To do with GUN mistaking Sonic for Shadow... GUN are trying to keep the very existence of Project Shadow a secret, so they decide to frame Sonic in public so they can hide Shadow's existence, and track down Shadow at a later time without being interrupted. Doesn't explain how everyone else mistook those two, though.
+AdmiralOctopus In other words, they KNEW Sonic was completely innocent and just decided to dick around with him, just because he happened to look like the actual perpetrator? Assholes.
+TheBlue Typhoon17 Pretty much. They were probably thinking that, as Sonic is the fastest thing alive, he would be easily believable to be able to go as fast as the robber, so he was the perfect candidate for framing (aside from how he would NEVER STEAL SOMETHING). Wow. GUN really are assholes.
AdmiralOctopus OK but still the game doesn't explain this. The game doesn't have a cutscenes where GUN acknowledges who conducted the attack, making us only assume.
MrKockNoker Well, if I'm not wrong there's a mod that lets you play every stage as a Sonic/Shadow stage, and if you have the appropriate PowerUps you can actually get through the Mech Shooting levels easily
Sonic Adventure 2 was praised into high heavens back in the day, perhaps without deserving it. Now, karma strikes back and reviewers are slamming this game down to the ground, sometimes unjustified. There is no middle ground here. Personally, I think this game is okay. Not great, but not bad either. The story is kinda stupid sometimes (especially with the plot holes), but its a charming kind of stupid, because it's actually entertaining and you can see the passion that went into it. As far as gameplay goes, I liked most of the gameplay styles. The only thing I straight up dislike are most of Tails' mech stages, the space levels in the treasure hunting stages, Knuckles portion of Cannon's Core (with or without the air necklace) and the Biolizzard boss fight.
Speaking of the light speed dash, I used to fear the electric shield because it'd draw the rings towards me thus disrupting the path of rings and making the dash more hazardous.
34:47 - 34:58 I for some reason love this little part of the video where john swaps the Dreamcast for the Gamecube, i dont know why but i love all the plastic sound that these things make, its almost like ASMR.
+パラッパ My biggest problem would have to be the repetition. The anti-marijuana ads have been playing 85% of the time for 3 months now, and I'm getting really damn tired of them. It's always one of the same three unskippable ads that don't even give specific warnings about weed other than "it's bad, don't use it."
@SheepBlippy Yeah he's gotta pay bills, but back when I posted this comment most of the ads I got (on mobile, at least) were the unskippable Be Your Selfie anti-pot ads, of which there were only three that UA-cam insisted on playing for almost every ad spot. You gotta wonder how much that organization paid UA-cam to get their ads to play that much, it was just un-fucking-acceptable how little variety there was in the advertising pool at that time. Imagine if that was happening with those "truth" anti-smoking ads right now, especially the one with the fucking honking Muppets that almost made me want to go buy a Juul out of spite and annoyance. Not to vape with it, just to symbolically say "fuck you" to the organization making those annoying ads.
HEY GUYS DID YOU KNOW DIP, YA KNOW, THAT ONE THING THAT'S USED TO KILL THE TOONS FROM WHO FRAMED DOCTER RABBIT IS BAD? YEA? WELL LET ME TELL YOU AGAIN 7 MILLION MORE TIMES. Trust me, these types of ads are so common on soundcloud as well. So common it's irritating.
Just for clarification on Shadow's motives being based off of Maria's memories, it has very little to do with him misinterpreting anything she said. It has to do with Gerald Robotnik's brainwashing of Shadow's memories, so that he has an overwhelming desire to fulfill Gerald's revenge. Part of it is Shadow's own resentment, but there is a part of Gerald's resentment that lives on in Shadow through the form of Gerald's programming.
@@jaredargento1511 Presumably I like the idea that Gerald played the part of the nice guy professor in order to keep up appearances with GUN. When he started using his resources as a GUN scientist to orchestrate things with Shadow, then GUN's chain of command caught wind of what he was doing and executed him for treason. That seems like the most reasonable timeline of events.
@@jaredargento1511I’ve been playing the game recently so the plot is fresh in mind but Shadow being locked in Prison Island and Gerald also being imprisoned there, plus his diary regarding what happened after the Ark was shut down implies that the military forced him to keep working on Shadow before his execution and he altered his memories during the process
The problem with all the explanations here is that they feel like write arounds too something that shouldn't be an issue in the first place. Gerald putting on a nice face to hide his true intentions makes sense for GUNS sudden raid on the ark but is not plausible to me as he has no motive, Insanity is the only one and I don't think Gerald was insane. Gerald working on shadow on prison island can be retconed by Shadow the hedgehog where it is clear he was finished once black doom gave up a portion of his DNA for his deal with Gerald. As well as shadow being able to run with and try to protect Maria in both Shadow the Hedgehog and SA2 cutscenes.
The fact that these videos are 10 years old is insane to me… I’ve watched the adventure to 06 videos soo many times. I loved these games growing up and your analysis and quips are top notch. These videos made me a fan you forever
@@Obscure_man31 *Laughs harder in the improved emerald radar mod that makes the radar work like it does in SA1. Also laughs in the Y-button lightspeed dash mod.*

11:29 Fun Fact: The Bio-Lizard was actually a normal sized lizard at first, but due to the experiments applied to it from Project Shadow, it grew at a rapid rate, eventually getting it's own room and had to be kept alive via the machinery put on it. And yes, This Video is now 11 years old and I am still commenting on it. Shut.
Try a more positive outlook that still respects opposing opinions, like that of ExoParadigmGamer. That being said, considering this is the Internet, people may take big name opinions as fact and talk down to people who find quality in said game.
Some of his arguments are facts though. The story being a plot hole ridden mess? Fact. The radar from SA1 being completely butchered here? Fact. Terrible enemy placement where you can get blindsided with no time to react? Fact. Death Chamber, Meteor Herd and Mad Space being atrociously designed? Fact. Not everything is subjective and some things are objective truths because that's how they are presented in the game. You can be fine with them, but really doesn't make it not a fact.
Now, as far as the gameplay goes, I can agree with you almost 100%. Especially on Tails/Eggman's game: 1) I felt like this was a missed opportunity for both characters as they could've had their gameplay be the most unique out of all 3 styles of gameplay. For example: in a Tails stage, you could have him do his classic style of gameplay from the first SA, then the next Tails stage could have him in his plane doing something similar to the Sky Attack mini-game in Sonic Adventure. Then another stage could have him using his Cyclone transformation from the Tornado 2, and do a shooting game style of gameplay. And with Eggman? He's got an unlimited arsenal of gadgets to his advantage. Let your imagination run wild! 2) Tails' and Eggman's style of gameplay feels a little too much like Gamma's from the first Sonic Adventure; and as I said before, I like shooting games, but you need a bigger arsenal besides shooting and hovering.
Heres the thing, everyone is entitled to their own opinion obviously, but I wish people went about it the same way Johnny did. He thoroughly and reasonably explains why he doesn’t like certain aspects of the game and is very logical. I just don’t like that people somehow took that and then made SA2 out to be a bad game for the sake of calling it that
Sonic Adventure 2 is definitely not a game I get much enjoyment out of playing, but I would certainly not call it a bad game. (At the very least, I’d gladly play it over Sonic CD, which is easily the lowest ranking of the four games included in the base game of Sonic Origins in my opinion.)
@@orangeslash1667 If you ask me, Sonic CD’s exploration aspect is extremely undermined by the fact that you can only truly get something out of it by destroying the robot generators, which can only be destroyed in the past, and traveling to the past requires going fast for around five seconds straight, which CD’s levels, being more exploration-oriented, don’t really lend themselves to; so do you see the problem here?
@@jaredargento1511 It’s like a scavenger hunt. There’s also the special stages. In case you don’t want to time travel. What I like about Adventure 2 is how demanding the ranking system can be sometimes. Even thou Unleash would do it a little better.
@@orangeslash1667 To me, these clashing playstyle philosophies make Sonic CD a game that tries to have its cake and eat it too. Also, I only consider the Time Stone method the lesser of two evils.
This comments section is much better than Projareds... Probably cuz John has more respectful opinions. Dont get me wrong i love me some ProJared but still.
***** oh crap youre here............... um hi darksonic, we were just talking about how cool you are and how you can save sonic :D hehe plz dont kill me........
6:48 I always thought Eggman kept the shuttle around in case the teleported was damaged or malfunctioning. Then he would still be able to go to the one place, not yet corrupted by Blue Hedgehogs! *SPACE!*
Yeah, I think he was probably just looking for another point to emphasize his issue with the story’s multiple plot holes and threw that in without really thinking of a possible explanation.
Except Eggman only found out about the Space Colony the previous day. The teleporter evidently wasn't there to only teleport him to the Ark, but rather to teleport him wherever he wanted to go. The rocket doesn't function as a secondary form of transportation because, unless you believe he built it in a day, the rocket was there before Eggman knew about the Ark. It's still nonsensical and ridiculously convenient.
You know, I’ve heard a bunch of other youtubers talking about this review in particular and it’s incredible that this video is like THE definitive Sonic Adventure 2 review. Congratulations John
I do believe Johnny's review of Adventure 2 is the definitive review of Adventure 2 I've seen bar none. Most others I've seen review this game either praises it so much like it's the greatest game ever made with no mentioned of it's flaws or people that really despises the game without given an single positive thing it had going for. Johnny keeps it balanced and knowledge it's strength & weakness. He may not think Adventure 2 is the best Sonic game ever made as most people think they do; which I agree. But he didn't say the game is outright bad nor bitching on people that loves it.
It's the only review that is level headed and honest, other reviews are either far too positive by exalting its good points to the point of ridiculoulness while completely dismissing the huge flaws the game has, or overexaggerate the negatives while not mentioning the positives. In conclusion, Adventure 2 is a complete mess of pretty good and pretty bad.
That intro wive the whole “farewell sonic, forever” was really bittersweet when you actaully think of it through the eyes of a fan who knew the dreamcast was coming to an end and sega was leaving and this was their last sonic game... it was a sad time of uncertainty so the whole commercial makes sense if you think that sega could of just gone forever after the end of the dreamcast and this could very well of been the final sonic game ever
sa2 would be better if the treasure hunting stages radar worked like how they did in sa1 if sonic and Shadow levels were nonlinear and if the mechs controls weren't so clunky
William White. Definitely. Not only that. But fans of this game started to piss me off on how they say that it's the best Sonic game ever & I don't see it. And personally, I don't like Adventure 2. Not a terrible game by all means. But really overrated.
@Lyuujign ¡ Sonic Adventure 1 isn't so linear tbh. I love using that powerful Spin Dash to skip parts of the stage, and love how there's hidden stuff to be found.
What I find weird is the hard mode versions of the emerald stages don't switch the pieces around. They're always in the same spot every single time. Why couldn't that apply to the regular modes and have the hard mode switch the emerald pieces?
32:47 That's so true! During the cutscene where sonic meets shadow in what you like to call "San Francisco Zone" before being arrested, you see the part where Shadow introduces himself, he interrupts sonic in the middle of nowhere.
There is something intensely satisfying listening to all the clicks, snaps and button presses at 34:38 when the gamecube is hooked up. I miss those days, everything is stupid 'touch' now and I miss the buttons.
I had the Gamecube version of this game. I think its my favorite Sonic game for the addition of Shadow. He is the most developed character in the franchise. I also liked how the story developed the Robotnick family as well. Makes Eggman a more sympathetic. Though this still doesn't excuse his evil acts. I hope to see a remaster version of this game someday with more additions to deal with plot holes. As well as give Shadow more stages as this was mostly HIS story.
I wouldn't mind if at some point, Dr. Eggman stops being a villain and starts using his genius to help the world alongside Sonic, especially since he only wins whenever they work together.
When it comes to the whole Sonic and Shadow looking alike, well that has something to do with Shadows prototype design, formerly named "Terios" looked like a dark navy blue, yellow and scarred eyes Sonic. I guess they never changed the script when they changed his design.
I wil explain the plotholes of SA2. The Rocket: I guess Eggman, just in case his teleporter is destroyed by Sonic, wanted an alternate way to get up to the Ark. Also, he had the Egg Golem, a three-story high rock robot to guard the goddamn rocket. Give him a break. The Chaos Control: We've seen this 'learn from watch' gimmick before in Sonic. In Sonic 2, Tails travels alongside Sonic, WATCHING him save their home. In Sonic 3, he uses the exact techniques that Sonic uses, and his Fly is just an improved jump. Also Classic Sonic learns the Light Speed Dash (sorta) from WATCHING Modern Sonic do it. Rouge's Mission and the Bomb: Rouge had to fight GUN because she had to make it look real. Besides, if GUN really wanted her to succede, they wouldn't have sent that boss! Shadow just wanted to ensure that the Chaos emeralds got out okay, so he set it for 15 minutes despite Rouge's objection. Gerald's repogramming and GUN's inaction: He did it before Maria's death. Now, before you call me retarded, we learn that the Eclipse Cannon was made to destroy the Black Arms. Maybe, if the Cannon was unuseable, it was to be a last resort. He, however made it to target the closest planet (planetoid), so that explains why it could be made to crash into Earth. However, his reprogramming Shadow must have happened after Maria's death, at Prison Island, or it would have made no sense for Shadow to hate humanity. He escaped, reprogrammed Shadow, and then was recaptured, and then the Video's events took place. GUN, however, thought that the threat was bullshit, and disregarded it. GUN most likely rebuilt Station Square afterwards, you know, once they got there. Yes, folks, it took GUN THAT long to get to Station Square.
First of all your grammar kinda sucks. And secondly, while these points may explain some of the shit that SA2 throws at players, it's not an excuse to make such a logically inconsistent game in the first place. What kind of game should force players to make up their own details to the story just because they didn't feel like doing it themselves? You really can't claim that what you say is right just because it might make sense. You can say your opinion, but don't make us feel like we're stupid or out of line for voicing our own thoughts.
Aren Buffaloe Aren Buffaloe OK with the chaos control, it's a better different cause a small manoeuvre is very different to using a technique such as chaos control, that too with a fake emerald, but I can kinda buy it. As for ur last point, Gerald is seen in prison when the video plays, meaning he was in prison after the reprogramming. Also the game never states that Gerald escaped. U can provide certain reasons, but my point would be that the game never explains any of this.
@@hipposamurai9497 what? The game says it,it is in the opening of the dark story if you choose it first, gun still has Geralds research,if anything, you seem like a fuck head blaming people for their grammar and pointing plot holes in a game you never played.
The details thing, you got me there. I love this story, but I’m still confused on how badnicks fit into Eggman’s backstory, and how Maria should be at least referenced by eggman. Also, eggman knew of Maria because she is the password to Gerald’s base, so Eggman really should have brought her up at some point.
A great thing about Johnny's reviews is that he doesn't just write things off he doesn't like by saying "this sucks and that's that". He logically and thoroughly explains why he feels that way, and even discusses ways he'd improve them.
Dragon Ball Shaker in my opinion, it has a much better and engaging story than the first game, but to me, everything else in this game feels like a downgrade from the first game.
DBS. I agree. I don't understand how people think it's one of the best when this game has many flaws and an downgrade than the first one. The only thing that this game does better than the first one is the storyline ( although it has it's flaws as well ) and better art design. The rest is downhill in which I feel that I considered the first one to be better.
@@jjc4924 I'm gonna make a point real quick,if a majority of people are calling this game overrated, then it's not really overrated or over appreciated anymore, because the general consensus is that it's overrated
Well I mean goku learned the kamehameha by just watching roshi do it, so sonic, who, if you played sonic 2,3, and adventure has had extensive exposure to the chaos emeralds energy, could have used his experience with the chaos emeralds to latch on to what little energy that the emerald produced, thanks to tails, and preformed chaos control. that's just speculation but it could be possible, I mean how does sonic go super in the first place? He must have some knowledge on how to use that type of energy. (Sorry if that was worded horribly or there was a lot of errors, I am no English major)
But they explain why Goku was able to learn it. The story developed him as a fighting prodigy and is a revisited concept throughout the series. This was just, sonic can't do it, now he can so suck it lol
Sonic going super sonic was an bonus game mechanic in a game where the plot is told to us in the manual. Lol I don't remember any sonic game explaining why he can do this but we accept it because he's always been able to do it. Just like we don't need to know why he runs fast. It's a given and is a part of him. This chaos control ability was just out of no where.
AlphaJman No you pretty much nailed it. Sonic definitely knew the chaos powers enough, people justmake a problem out of nothing. A pretty decent pot twist that made sense. Come on people their is a good reason this happened, enough with the issues. Jesus.
Sonic learned Chaos Control from Shadow just by watching him do it? That reminds me of Goku learning the Kamehameha Wave from Master Roshi just by watching him.
I'm gonna say this now, Sonic Adventure 2 is a bad game mostly protected by nostalgia. I'm not saying that I hate it, hell, I even like the game. Soundtrack's memorable and gameplay's decent enough for me to play.
The reason some cutscenes are in 16:9 and others in 4:3 is because, while the models themselves can be rendered in widescreen, some overlays, such as explosions or lens flares, were only in 4:3. They would either have to stretch the effect or leave the window unchanged, neither of which would look correct
I'm probably the minority to the extreme here, but I personally feel as if Sonic Adventure 2 lacking hub worlds is the thing that pulls it down the most. Don't get me wrong, it's still my favorite Sonic game and one of my all time favorite games, but when Sonic Team wanted to make a more intense story, they do lack in some areas. Johnny brings up detailing, and while the topics he brought up himself also could have and should have been fleshed out, I also feel along with that, there should have been more flavor text to see a more believable world around Sonic and friends. For instance, imagine a hub world right after Eggman blows up the moon, and all the NPCs are flipping their shit because, well half the moon is gone. Going back to SA1, some of my favorite dialogue comes from NPCs in the hub worlds, like the newspaper kiosk lady, for instance. She compliments Tails, and even talks to other characters about how much Tails has grown as a character, making it actually feel like you did something great by beating Tails' story. But I suppose I ramble.
I can see that. I'm in the same camp as Johnny, I prefer no hub worlds but if you going to do a hub world do it well. And like you said a hub world could of given more details to this story.
Xcalibur64 It doesn't ruin the game. I just was saying that with a more story driven focus that the Adventure games had, it would have been more immersive to have said hub worlds to show how the world they try to build up connects, and have life inside said hub worlds to make it a more breathing atmosphere, adding more immersion to the world they try to build.
Another thing, regarding Sonic's "random" ability to use Chaos Control. There were implications, before being dropped in later games, that Sonic is actually an improved Shadow, hence his ability to use Chaos Control, even with a fake Emerald.
Zwataketa, The Aspy Gamer Personally I prefer to think that Sonic having already used the emeralds to become Super Sonic would count as practice, but honestly that doesn't matter: The game itself _never_ explains this. It would be forgivable if it actually mentioned it, but besides Shadow pointing out how weird it was, nobody ever mentions it again, and that's the problem.
Still waiting for the Sonic Adventure games to be ported to Wii U and/or PS4... And Generations, too, for that matter. (Not trying to sound like a complainer or anything, but yeah.)
I feel the same way for SA2 as Johnny does for Sunshine. It's a decent game for the most part and while I do feel that some of the hatred it's been getting in the last few years has been blown somewhat out of proportions, but I'd be lying if I said that this is my favorite Sonic game. The Speed stages are just as fun as they were in SA1, and while I am happy that the Light Dash can be performed on the fly this time, I am not a fan of it being on the same button as the Somersault and the Bound Jump. As far as the Mech stages go, they're on the same level as Gamma. The Mechs have better designed levels, while Gamma is definitely better when talking about control and platforming. Tails being in a Mech doesn't offend me too much, but I do prefer how he was in the Genesis games and SA1. Finally, there's the Treasure Hunting, which is my least favorite part of the game. Making the radar detect one emerald at a time was an utterly ass-backwards decision. With this change, you could be potentially close to an Emerald piece, but you won't know for sure, because the damn radar doesn't want you to get it yet, which makes levels like Security Hall, Death Chamber, and the space levels a serious flick in the nuts. The flaws aren't too bad when doing a normal playthrough, but when you're going for all 180 emblems, that's when the worst of all three playstyles come in *FULL FORCE*, which is why I feel the reward just isn't worth it. It's not as bad as the postcard in Sunshine, but if you're _that_ desperate to play Green Hill, then you're better off playing Sonic 1 or Generations. Besides that, everything else checks out. The story is passible (though it does have problems), the music is sweet, the Chao Garden is much interesting than before, and the Multiplayer is still easily the best in the series to date. Again, while SA2 is nowhere near the awful game that people have been making it out to be nowadays, I'd still sooner play the Genesis games, SA1, Heroes, Unleashed, Colors, Generations, and even Lost World. Last good Sonic game? I don't see it.
+TheBlue Typhoon17 I dunno....I can go back to Mario Sunshine any day of the week and have fun with it, especially when I am not collecting 120 Shines. With Adventure 2......................................I can only ever like most of the Sonic/Shadow levels. With as Johnny says, is under 1/3 of the game.
Regarding the Chaos Control-related plot holes: It's implied by a line during the final battle that Sonic is actually the "Ultimate Life Form", and Shadow is based on him, Chaos Control included. If that's true, Sonic accesses Chaos Control with instinct or still-dormant memories, instead of conscious knowledge the way Shadow does, and that would also explain why Sonic is able to complete the final Chaos Control more successfully than Shadow.
Not to mention, and I don't know where I read this, Gerald based the ultimate life-form on the murals in the original sonic adventure showing perfect chaos and super sonic fighting each other. This is believed to be the basis for the biolizard and then shadow the hedgehog. Also Johnny the reason Shadow fell to earth was because he had worn himself out after using chaos control due to him not being used to the power as apposed to sonic who has used the power of the chaos emeralds multiple times. Also The reason tails doesn't have his mech into the plane is probably because he will be more noticeable due to saving station square in the last game making him very easy to see.
thats all nice but the problem here is that would take a lot of inferences to come up to (not that im saying you are lying) and most people wouldnt notice this
Insert a clever username here I think that Sonic Adventure 2 is not the best Sonic game ever made. (Id probably give that honor to Sonic 2.) But it's my favorite by far, partially because I actually like the hunting and shooting levels. It's definitely got it's flaws, ESPECIALLY with how much I've played it, but I still love it.
I’d say this is still a fun game, if to rate at its lowest, I’d say 6/10 if rating now, but it’s kind of unfair to compare it to current newly released games. It’s definitely better than Shadow the Hedgehog which tries to be Sonic Adventure 3 with Sonic Heroes style.
Micheal. No. It's overrated for sure. I don't find people saying they hated it. They just don't like it as many other people do. Unfortunately, I don't like it either. It isn't terrible. Just not as amazing as people claim it to be & every time I mentioned about Sonic, they always pointed out Adventure 2 alot. Like what about the classic ones? Or the Advance Trilogy? Or Rush? Or Generation? But no. It's always Adventure 2 & it makes me lost respect to it.
I've played a video game. I've played quite a few video games and I still don't understand why people complain about SA2's story when the story has never been a thing that made Sonic games fun.
Sonic the Hedgehog: Nice try, Rocky! Rocky Balboa: You want it you got it!!! LOL XD I think that it the best joke of your UA-cam channel, Johnny! Keep up the good work!!!
The grading system is such bullshit in Adventure 2 and Heroes. Emblem collecting and 100% completion is so much better in Adventure 1 simply because there's no grade system. I'm so glad that Generations is much more forgiving.
I really don't know which game is superior in the Adventure series. I wanna say SA2 because of the step up in presentation and the simplicity on stories, but SA1 to me has better Control, Level design and chance of exploration. If it wasn't for Big and Amy being part of the main story, I'd say SA1 and the treasure hunting stages in SA2 are downright stupid. Mad Space is by far the worst level in the game as, like Johnny says, the gravity mechanic is too awkward to work with.
Honestly, redundancy is probably the entire reason the shuttle is even in the pyramid. If the teleporter fails or one link goes offline, Eggman still has it as a backup. As for Sonic performing Chaos Control, I think that's a remnant of an old draft of the plot where Shadow was the second prototype of the Ultimate life Form, and Sonic was the final product. I think Shadow needing the jetskates and Super Shadow being silver are remnants of that as well.Though it would be nice to get an in-universe explanation why he doesn't use it going forward. As for the issues with Gerald... I think we're both missing something with him, it makes no sense.
i personally really love SA2, it’s my favorite Sonic game. it has my favorite story and some of my favorite graphics in a Sonic game (i love the polygonal look), and i personally love the treasure hunting, though the mech stages aren’t my favorite also yeah the rocket in Metal Harbor is the worst, though i learned that if you spin dash and then jump off the ramp going up you can get up there pretty easily
My theory about the shuttle is that it's alternate mode of transportation in case the teleportation device malfunctions and doesn't have enough time to fix it before he leaves.
What if Sonic actually mixed up the emeralds, and actually had the real one when he was shot into space? Then Eggman puts the fake one in the cannon, which blows it up. Then, since "not even a computer can tell the difference" Gerald's doomsday program is activated.
Seems like some of the holes in the story could be fixed by adding more to Gerald's diary. He could say there were survivors from the ark who remained loyal to him after his arrest to carry out his wishes. This would imply that whoever those survivors were programmed the Ark to crash and modify Shadow's memory. You could even have him say in the recording that those very survivors were disguised as Prison Island guards to carry out his scheduled execution and place the recording in the Ark's computer, thus keeping it secret from both GUN and Eggman. I don't know if that fixes all the unanswered questions with him, but it's a start. As someone who really loves this game, I also like thinking about ways it could be better.
@@jaretco6423 Nah, that game just added the black arm's and gun commander into Shadow's backstory. Nothing about how the ark was able to crash after Gerald's arrest, how Shadow's memory was modified in the first place, or how the recording got into the computer without Gun's knowledge. A few extra lines of dialogue is pretty much all that part needed.
@platformperil1853 Yeah. I know. I'm just saying that Shadow the Hedgehog ( game ) kinda does that and it completely ruined the expanded of Adventure 2's story. Like aliens, the stupid commander that was one of the Ark citizens, Shadow's emo, everything. If it were something else, than I'm sure we would've gotten this continuation story alot better and an great way to end the expanded story from Adventure 2. But instead what we got is an soulless, dumbest fictionary & an cash grab of ways to make more money. It was an mess and totally destroyed Adventure 2's plot legacy.
Yeah. IMO, Sonic 2 has awful level designs choices. The only ones I found decent is Casino Night & Mystic Cave. Everything else is just either not balanced with it's design curve or too much difficulty spikes.
It's really sad that nearly EVERY single 3D Sonic game, all the way up to Unleashed, have terrible camera issues. They never got the camera right ONCE!
Perfect example of a review where regardless of whether you agree with the critic or not, there is enough of the critics opinion, facts and game footage for the audience to form there own opinion. I personally don't agree with most of this review, but it's still entertaining and informative.
@@Obscure_man31 Yes, same as I would anyone else's. That and I realize there's plenty of others that feel this game is outdated and overrated for understandable reasons.
I'm one of those people who doesn't like Adventure 2 as well. Not saying it's bad. But I just don't get the hype for it & I do believed people have been sucking milk on it alot. Also, last great Sonic game? Don't see it.
5:16 The whole killing humanity on account of a loved one's death thing isn't a new thing. In the words of Dracula from the Castlevania animated series, "There are no innocents, not anymore! Any one of them could have stood up and said 'no, we won't behave like animals anymore.'" Dracula doesn't like humans despite marrying one because the sole human he did like was killed over a dark conspiracy. Where his story differs from Shadow's is that the latter was able to hear Maria's last words and no one could stand up to GUN because no one saw the raid coming. It was in space, after all.
Agreed. It's a good game, but it's also overrated as hell. Colors and Generations were far more better experiences for me. Though, it was my first Sonic game and I respect it for being that, but I can't help but call it the most overrated Sonic game. Up there with Sonic CD. Also, FUCK Security hall.
Yeah. the Sonic and Shadow levels were the best part of the game, IMO, but even they had their share of problems like the levels feeling more like narrow hallways, and too many abilities being mapped to one button. I couldn't care less about anything else, because the Mechs are slower, clunkier versions of Gamma and the Treasure Hunting is so stupidly luck-based with its gimped radar and hint system, and HUMONGOUS level design. That decision to make the player find the Emeralds in a specific order was just plain asinine.
TheBlue Typhoon17 Agreed. I personally prefer SA1, There wasn't really a gameplay style I didn't like in that game with the exception of Big and Amy kind of annoyed me too. But other then that, it's a pretty solid game.
Omar Elmosrati Yeah. I can't help but feel the developers thought SA1 was too short of a game, and so for the sake of padding, they intentionally neutered certain design choices that were perfectly fine before. To me, that's one of the biggest reasons why this game hasn't aged well.
TheBlue Typhoon17 I mean, just *what* were they thinking when they took away the radar in the treasure hunting stages? That's literally one of my biggest problems with this game.
Here is everything Eggman did right in that one scene:
1. He pointed a gun at Amy's head.
2. He told Sonic to give him the Chaos Emerald in Exchange for Amy.
3. He used that tactic against him and trapped him in the capsule.
4. He tricked Tails into telling him about the fake Emerald
5. He launches Sonic into space and apparently blowing him up.
That was literally Eggman's greatest moment. Ever.
You watched Wiidude83 video right?
And now we have that...THING from Lost World!
*sigh*
sonicjrjr14 At least he was (apparently) the coolest character of the game.
Sigh..
Nah, best Eggman moment is "I'M PISSING ON THE MOOOON!!!"
In lego dimensions shadow says"turns out revenge is not what Maria wanted, she really wanted flowers for the entire world , so we must look for the ultimate flowers'
My god
And I thought Shadow the Hedgehog ruined him.
That is wonderful
Remember that cutscene when Sonic,Shadow,Tails,Knuckles, and Big came out of the portal,Shadow was holding a gun and Knuckles just knocks it out of his hands...maybe Knuckles doesnt want a sequel to Shadow the Hedgehog
ua-cam.com/video/8cEcT9H_92o/v-deo.html
*Looks back* this means that Sonic CD happened after demensions?
"Damn main character immunity, you and your tricks!"
Well, I mean, tricks are for kids, and Shadow is 50 years old...
*slow clap*
That's glorious!
Actually, since shadow was still in his super form, he probably could have survived the fall and reappear in heroes and "edgie the hedgie". Or sonic team was just getting lazier with the story.
+ThePenguinEmporium. I think the reason he fell is because at that point he had never been super before while sonic has a bunch before
"So much power......" *Faints*
I suppose that 'goodbye Sonic forever' was in reference to the fact this was the last Sonic Game on Sega's final console.
And the fact afterwards, Sega felt they would lose control.
CactusErebittsu then why did they start development for Heroes on ths Dreamcast?
I think it was just a marketing ploy because it's teasing he might die but shadow bites the bullet instead
Do you have any proof that Heroes was developed for the Dreamcast
Thats just...depressing
Asking for proof is depressing?
Say what you want about Johnny's opinion of SA2, that cutaway gag at the beginning of this video is one of his best ever.
"Goodbye Sonic, forever." Yeah by goodbye Sonic they meant the fucking series because every game after Sonic Adventure 2 is hot steaming shit on a sidewalk on a beautiful Thursday morning.
BladeBlur So true haha
Sonic Rush especially
I honestly don't mind the Treasure hunting stages. I definitely thimk they were better in Adventure 1, but I actually enjoy Wild Canyon and Pumpkin Hill. Some mech stagess can be fun as well. I enjoy Cosmic Wall and Iron Gate just fine and I think Mission Street is OK. I actually enjoy over half of this game, and I always had a good time in the Chao garden as a kid.
HEY! Heroes was good, Unleashed was awesome, and Colors and Generations were pretty good. Mania was god.
"The knuckle's stages are filled to the brim with the most extremely corny rap songs that... are admitteldly a guilty pleasure of a sort"
That... actually yeah that sums it up pretty well.
Its god like
Guess you can put it that way.

Better than most rap songs we have today.
Sonic Adventure 2, using comic sans before it was poorly over used.
Everyone loves that poorly spaced font that makes things look like it was done by a 2 year old!
Why did SEGA/Sonic Team pick Comic Sans of all fonts?
Spidertendo 64 I personally like Comic Sans, before the Undertale memes.
what is comic sans?
Mizz Midnight Comic Sans is a type font that is imfamous for being overused. And became more imfamous for the fact that the game Undertale has a skeleton named Sans who's diolog is written in Comic Sans.
Comic sans had become a meme long before Undertale.
the fact this video is gonna be a decade old this year is making me sob uncontrollably
It was how I found his channel in middle school... and now I am a post college working adult...
I'm guessing the Sega Dreamcast was saying "farewell Sonic....forever...."
+Nathan Case 2008 would like to have a word with you.
THE MAN 2008 already gave me a word with DK Jungle Beat when my hands got very sore.
Nathan Case What does that have to do with Sonic?
THE MAN it had to do with 2008.
Nathan Case But not Sonic Unleashed.
After watching the review again, I thought of something with Sonic being able to do chaos control for the first time somehow. If he's managed to use all 7's energy to become super sonic, it makes some sense he'd be able to tap into the other powers of the emeralds.
Atlus is love Atlus is Life Yes. it's Cooper.
Mamaspeeder Shadow has more natural ability but I believe that Sonic has indeed had a bit more experience with the Emeralds so I guess that makes alot of sense.
Mamaspeeder Also, how would Shadow, and later on Silver, know they can turn super with the emeralds?
NewController01 Sonic taught Shadow, as some of Shadow's quotes in the Final Hazard fight imply that he's never done it before.
As for Silver, well Sonic was sharing his energy so he didn't *have* to know.
Silver does come from the future, maybe he's gone Super to defeat Iblis, like how in SA Sonic absorbs the chaos emeralds after Perfect Chaos uses them.
I love how Sonic X fills in some of these plot holes. SONIC X! The heck Sonic Team?!
Elchronic Maelstrom Shadow still has the same fate, it's just that it shows that Shadow pushes Sonic out of the giant Chaos Control.
DuskHeart13 14:18 He said that without even knowing he did...
I loved Sonic X and even Chris Thorndyke. I don't see why people hate them so much.

"Dr Eggman, so if you are not given supreme rulership over all of Earth, you're going to destroy it?"
"Yes!"
"You are aware that destroying the planet would leave you without a home and the debris from the destruction would probably also destroy the moon and the Space Colony Ark you're currently residing in?"
"Uuuuuh..."
yeah, the storytelling in this game is not thought all the way through.
I don't think he'd have actually done it if it came down to it.
That's the point, his threat is so obviously empty. If he had said, "I'll wipe out cities until I'm made Supreme Ruler", OK. But he goes for blowing the whole planet up. Genius scientist, eh?
i think sonic paradox made a clip where eggman actually destroyed the earth. it turned out like this:
shadow: "Idiot..."
eggman (approx dialogue) "What are you talking about? The plan is a success! Now i can build my empire!"
shadow: "And exactly WHERE are you going to build it?"
eggman: "Oh..."
I can't take this story seriously anymore after the fandub SnapCube made.

And the fact that GUN is attacking rouge is because if they just stood by, it would be very suspicious to eggman as to why they aren't attack or just handing the emeralds over
My assumption was that gerald's ghost was working from beyond the grave.
that's stretching it really far, like a mile out
RexVsGaming Although I see ur point, the game doesn't exactly explain it does it.
10 years... man I still look back on these after 10 years.
This game is solid.............. but I DEFINITELY disagree with the 90% of Sonic fans who say it's the best Sonic game ever. That honor goes to Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

***** So you think Sonic 06 is a better game than Sonic Generations?
I personally think that Sonic using Chaos Control for the first time isn't that out of the ordinary because Sonic has had more experience than Shadow with with the Chaos Emeralds from turning super in the classic games, so him harnessing a new power from the Chaos Emeralds would seem like something Sonic would do eventually.
People say that Sonic Unleashed as a whole is bad because 1/2 of the game is good at best.
People say that Sonic Adventure 2 as a whole is good because 1/3 of the game is good at best.
. . .
+Micro Yeah, they are blinded by Nostalgia
So none of Eggman or Knuckles's levels? That's a pretty rough standard.
+Skeeter Mania No... not the Eggman stages... just the Tails stages
Am i the only one who thinks SA1 and Sa2 are about equal in terms of quality, but for different reasons?
I can see that to a degree
Somewhat..... but personally I love SA1 more
no, you're not, but I think SA2 is a bit better
TheBlue Typhoon17 These are the people that shot and killed a 12 year old girl.

Ender Eli The level wasn't THAT great because of random explosions and enemies appearing out of nowhere but the music really made it better :)
Mr. Cardus Yeah ill agree. But it was ok.

It's cool to hear Johnny say over Twitter that he's softened on this game quite a bit over the years, despite the qualms he still has with it
Just for clarification on Shadow's motives being based off of Maria's memories, it has very little to do with him misinterpreting anything she said.
But that then leads to the question Johnny asked later in the video, “When did Gerald get the chance to do this?”
I think this is the first time in have seen a review of this game where the opinions on the game's gameplay wasn't presented as fact. Great job
Try a more positive outlook that still respects opposing opinions, like that of ExoParadigmGamer.
That being said, considering this is the Internet, people may take big name opinions as fact and talk down to people who find quality in said game.
Hi, IGN.
@@okagron I seriously hope you're joking

Johnny: "What can i say...?"
Sonic: "Say something, you fake hedgehog!"
Johnny is a fake hedgehog confirmed?
Now, as far as the gameplay goes, I can agree with you almost 100%. Especially on Tails/Eggman's game:
1) I felt like this was a missed opportunity for both characters as they could've had their gameplay be the most unique out of all 3 styles of gameplay.
@@jaredargento1511 didn’t sonic CD set the standard for exploration in sonic games??

Has anyone else noticed that Shadow's chaos control shows it's just a speed boost, but Sonic's was a space-time warp?
I can't believe you're the only one who noticed it. It really bugged me the first time I realized it
You are aware that Central City is the name of The Flash's home town right?
You know, I’ve heard a bunch of other youtubers talking about this review in particular and it’s incredible that this video is like THE definitive Sonic Adventure 2 review. Congratulations John
IDK about definitive but I like the fact that he was being honest & accepting that others can like this game
5:42 This never gets old, seriously.
sa2 would be better if the treasure hunting stages radar worked like how they did in sa1 if sonic and Shadow levels were nonlinear and if the mechs controls weren't so clunky
Yeah but I still love Sa2 and I feel like I'm the only one who likes the mech levels
Anime Nerd You’re not the only one. I like them too. 👍
Agree. I feel satisfying looking at that
I had the Gamecube version of this game.
At first I despised this for having 11 midroll ads. But then I realized Johnny probably put weeks into making this.
+Joey Tenaglia Well he was writing a long comment what do you expect ?
Aren Buffaloe Aren Buffaloe OK with the chaos control, it's a better different cause a small manoeuvre is very different to using a technique such as chaos control, that too with a fake emerald, but I can kinda buy it. As for ur last point, Gerald is seen in prison when the video plays, meaning he was in prison after the reprogramming. Also the game never states that Gerald escaped. U can provide certain reasons, but my point would be that the game never explains any of this.
@@Joewii24 Fuck off nazi

@Ryan Fanstone I personally would choose SA2 over any of those games, but hey, more power to you
Well I mean goku learned the kamehameha by just watching roshi do it, so sonic, who, if you played sonic 2,3, and adventure has had extensive exposure to the chaos emeralds energy, could have used his experience with the chaos emeralds to latch on to what little energy that the emerald produced, thanks to tails, and preformed chaos control. that's just speculation but it could be possible, I mean how does sonic go super in the first place?
Louie V. Baby You probably right, they should have added at least a dialog hinting to sonic figuring it out.
AlphaJman No you pretty much nailed it. Sonic definitely knew the chaos powers enough, people justmake a problem out of nothing. A pretty decent pot twist that made sense. Come on people their is a good reason this happened, enough with the issues. Jesus.
Dude thats totally true lol. Hell sonic pretty much is a rip off of Dbz anyway
Sonic learned Chaos Control from Shadow just by watching him do it? That reminds me of Goku learning the Kamehameha Wave from Master Roshi just by watching him.

In what point did he say he did not like the game=
This game has outright bad... _parts._ They are plentiful, but I wouldn't call the overall product "bad". More... y'know, mediocre on the whole.
@Mu1ho I found the later stages to be very fun after getting the hang of them.
@@AniGaAG nah this game is straight up awful which is so sad, because this is peak Sonic.
***** EXACTLY! Honestly I feel like people hate on Sonic hub worlds because 06 screwed it up so badly.
The reason Shadow thought that was because Gerald brainwashed him. Yes, even before Heroes, Shadow had amnesia.
Another thing, regarding Sonic's "random" ability to use Chaos Control. There were implications, before being dropped in later games, that Sonic is actually an improved Shadow, hence his ability to use Chaos Control, even with a fake Emerald.
Dammit Shadow
Zwataketa, The Aspy Gamer Personally I prefer to think that Sonic having already used the emeralds to become Super Sonic would count as practice, but honestly that doesn't matter: The game itself _never_ explains this. It would be forgivable if it actually mentioned it, but besides Shadow pointing out how weird it was, nobody ever mentions it again, and that's the problem.

5:42 General audiences reacting to Maria's death in Sonic Movie 3 vs. longtime Sonic fans reacting to the same scene.
I can agree with that
+TheBlue Typhoon17 I dunno....I can go back to Mario Sunshine any day of the week and have fun with it, especially when I am not collecting 120 Shines. With Adventure 2......................................I can only ever like most of the Sonic/Shadow levels. With as Johnny says, is under 1/3 of the game.
Icare Are we not entitled to it to our opinion?
adventure 2 is my favorite sonic game but I respect your opinion
TheBlueTyphoon. You tooked the words right off my mouth. 🖒

It's extremely overrated. A ok game, but not the best.
JJ C well nowadays, Id say it’s over-hated
I’d say this is still a fun game, if to rate at its lowest, I’d say 6/10 if rating now, but it’s kind of unfair to compare it to current newly released games. It’s definitely better than Shadow the Hedgehog which tries to be Sonic Adventure 3 with Sonic Heroes style.

SA1 for me. SA2 is sort of an downgrade from Adventure 1 in terms of the level designs & gameplay.
Lyuujign ¡ I agree. 👍

@@tyshco2969 I think the reason why SA 2 is linear is because it's trying to appeal to the speed running fans.

*drip drop* HMM. Dats a mystery
1:42 Newsflash from the future, yes he did talk about Sonic Shuffle
I really respect this comment. ‘Nuff said.
@@jaredargento1511 Thanks
Well u have Shadow the Hedgehog ( game ) that does that and it completely blows.
These videos still hold up so well.
"I can say I enjoy everything about Sonic 2"
*Special Stages, The pit in Mystic Cave Zone 2, Asterons, Shellcrackers, Slicers, all of Metropolis Zone*

Do you still respect his opinion tbough
@@Obscure_man31 Yes, same as I would anyone else's. That and I realize there's plenty of others that feel this game is outdated and overrated for understandable reasons.
@@Makman1994 ok cool some of the parts of the game did not age well
Unlike a certain other more negative review or the game...
I'm one of those people who doesn't like Adventure 2 as well. Not saying it's bad. But I just don't get the hype for it & I do believed people have been sucking milk on it alot. Also, last great Sonic game? Don't see it.
05:32 "That's right, this is what you get! My SUPER LASER PISS!"
I JUST clicked on this video and was about to make that comparison as someone who recently watched the Castlevania anime.
Omar Elmosrati Next to the fishing, that was the dumbest thing they've ever done in the Adventure games (unless you count SA3...I mean 06).
I LOVE SA2's story despite the many plot holes because of how much more they got right.
doesn't Sonic X show Gerald Robotnik writing his diary in prison? wouldn't that genius be able to complete shadow from there on a P.C?
