Today we are going to take a look at the USS Raven.
As seen on Star Trek Voyager.
It has limited weaponary, but is still much larger than a shuttlecraft/runabout.
With 4 Decks, i'm thinking this ship should have strong shielding versues a Runabout.
The Runabout does have Micro-Torpedoes which will be problematic for the Raven.
Let's see what happens.
Played in Star Trek Bridge Commander Kobayashimaru.
Thanks for watching!

Both crews die of old age before taking out the other's shields.
Regardless, in universe the Runabout (particularly the combat configured one) should crush the Raven. The Raven in voyager wasn't even a Starfleet ship, it was essentially a civilian yacht the Federation have to the Hansens for their research. While the Runabout was slugging it out with Jem'hadr fighters.
The torpedo pod should have 4 full sized torpedo's. DS9 Technical Manual noted the Danube could be fitted with 4 full sized torpedoes. 24 micro and 4 standard.
the Danube class aka the Winnebago with attitude
Captained by LONE STAR!
Up next: Zefram Cochrane's warp ship versus Bajoran Lightship
Sounds like a spiritual conflict; although neither ships are fitted with conventional weapons, the Bajorans do have their faith and Zefram Cochrane can blast Pre-WW3 music. In this battle which will lose their will to live first before flying into a nearby star.
@@deeply.shallow Also, it's wood versus titanium if it comes down to ramming.
For real, I also thought that would've been a clean sweep for the Runabout since it is more combat orientated than a civvie science scout lol
I like when you do battles with support craft and small ships. And I enjoy the pronunciation of "Danube."
What about danube vs delta flyer
It's a Winnebago with wings!
I was just looking for Lonestar and Barf in the front viewport!
😲Oh wow Admiral.. love this.. Never seen the Raven in the game, nice .. I liked that ship... and lots of room, and all the tech the parents had and followed the Borg without being detected for months.. was crazy.. but like the Queen said'' that technology was assimilated'' and eeh Seven's father was be the Queen's side and never aged.. hmm. wow. Her parents developed Multi-adaptive shielding was a deflector shield stealth technology. and tracked a Borg cube for 3 years gosh.. but that 13.2 sec the Borg saw them eeh.. Wow I did not see that coming, gosh, yes the Raven was better equipped since went to study the Borg.. I always found this funny, even the MK 2 Shuttles, have warp, but the Ent D, redone from start to finish, the saucer had no warp, that is strange.. just saying.. but tiny ships, gosh the made in Voyager the Delta Flyer, with a warp core but how.. I am gonna have to go see that episode.. great battle Admiral! Just don't get assimilated lol...!😊🖖
I guess for the saucer section it's less a problem of a warp core but the missing warp nacelles that would be required for warp.
Besides, I guess the saucer separation was meant for leaving the saucer section behind somewhere safe so the civilians could stay behind during a battle. Or when there was a problem with the warp core for the crew to flee. It was also invented in a time of peace for the federation. So waiting in a saucer section to get picked up wasn't that bad. They also still had impulse and were able to 'cruise' in warp for a short while after separation without actually being able to go to warp once separated.
Shuttles on the other hand had a requirement to be able to go to warp. For the transport of only a couple of passengers, medical or other supplies, diplomatic or espionage missions etc.
Oh and for Sevens father not aging: He was borg. The borg used technology to speed up growth until adulthood, but then, they slowed down or stopped aging for the drones with their nanobots and incredibly advanced medical technology. Remember that there are few to none old borg. Possibly because they don't assimilate too old people as they're deemed to be not worthy for assimilation. Also, Sevens parents could have been in their fifties and she in her late twenties during the show. So they wouldn't have been too old even without considering that Seven was aging faster due to Borg technology.
For me, this made much more sense than if Sevens parents would have been shown as old.
The main weakness of this ship was when Annika was messing about with the cube, the pilot was distracted.
TY for the video and LLAP!
Wow, that is a bit surprising. The Raven crashed in 2350, so it's quite a bit older of the two. Must have been pretty good for its time!
Runabouts are glorified shuttles when you get right down to it. Their main virtue is that they go almost as fast as starship cruising speeds, and faster than most civilian craft, and that they can carry rather more than a typical shuttle. Yes, they have weapons, and plenty of battles were fought with them in DS9, but they generally just 'poke' their foes and try and stay alive. A Starfleet crew in a runabout is an underdog in almost any fight, but at least they can fight.
The micro-torpedo looks impressive, but really, full scale torpedoes don't seem to win many fights, despite Next Gen seemingly putting a much greater emphasis on them. It's not so much the runabout is better armed, but that the roll bar is a security blanket that makes officers feel better about sending personnel out in them.
This battle between the lightweights does seem to provide a visual explanation for why we don't often see fighters in the Star Trek universe.
The Raven would easily win this. It was equipped with multi-adaptive shields. In Dark Frontier when the Delta Flyer was equipped with multi-adaptive shields, it was able to take heavy torpedo bombardment from a pursuing Borg Diamond. Clearly these shields are very combat effective. Not even the entire payload of the Runabouts torpedoes would get through. In fact, the runabout wouldn't even detect the Raven, as multi-adaptive shields can also be used as a cloak from sensors.
As far as I can tell, the Raven type explorer didn’t have any weapons, the Danube should be able to win this with ease (also random but real talk, I love how I’m finding new ships I never knew about cause of this channel)
That's quite an interesting battle. The Raven may be larger but it's an older design compared to the Runabout. The Runabout's torpedoes should have had more impact on the Raven's shields. I always wondered what weaponry the Raven carried. It wasn't mentioned in "Dark Frontier". But as you pointed out. It's a science vessel but apparently can defend itself (Oberth Class cough cough). The multi adaptive shielding wouldn't have been of much use in combat I think since this shielding was only designed to fool Borg sensors.
When the Delta Flyer was equipped with multi-adaptive shields in Dark Frontier, it was able to take heavy torpedo bombardment from a pursuing Borg Diamond. So I'd say multi-adaptive shielding is highly combat effective as well as a sensor-fooler.
@@RighteousPursuitMinistries wrong that was tuvok unimatrix shield for tactical use , multi adaptive are only for stealth and borg already know from the raven how to adapt to them
@@RighteousPursuitMinistries We don't know much about the fire power the Queen's command ship had. It seems to be a quite small craft if you compare it's size to the Delta Flyer. I think the fact that the Delta Flyer could take so many hits in that episode was just bad writing. And since the Borg assimilated that technology already it shouldn't be effective anymore. They caught the Delta Fyler quite easily by the way before by locking on with a tractor beam. But I guess you can look at it both ways.
How would both of these ships fair against a post-Xindi pre-Refit NX-01? Hijinks ensue?
I love the Raven class. An update to the design would be nice. More texture and rounding would be nice.
Good luck, there's no actual modellers around these days 🫣
@@jonnyburrows4454 well I mean whoever did this could do a Raven Class refit for the game and sleek it up a bit.
@chromemox3319 I mean I could, but this was made 15 years ago and JL Studios retired 10 years ago ☺️
That was fascinating, what about the Delta Flyer or even the Klingon shuttle against two of these Raven ships
That's So Raven!!!
this was a genius battle pairing
wow raven is more awesome than i thought!
It surprised me! 🖖
Interesting that while the Raven was built before a Runabout...specifically a Mark 2 Runabout that it couldn't get through the Runabout's shields unless you diverted pretty much all power to the phasers. I'm surprised that the Hansen's didn't have any torpedoes installed for the Raven.
You would think, based on the fact they were probably doing the most dangerous scientific mission in history it would be a bit better armed. Although, even with torpedoes, i guess 'Resistance would still be futile!' 🖖
The Danube class runabout would win thanks to it's weapon pod, no doubt influenced by the Reliant/ Avenger class.
Wonderful and unexpected. If you had drawn the Raven into an atmosphere, would its shields have been strained enough to allow the Runabout's phasers to create more damage? That said, it appears to me that Raven is a more "solid-state" and long-range runabout. If you look at its forward section ending in the middle, it seems that it has been 'inserted' into a separate engine section.
Has anyone else noticed that?
If it is indeed modular, I could imagined a more robust rear assembly capable of carrying ordnance, or a stronger power core, maybe a dedicated and more intensive sensors array, or a countermeasures package.
One more thing I noticed about the Raven, it seems comparable to the Cardassian Keldon in size if not weaponry.
How well would it perform against that class?
Try the Yukon class runabout with the micro torpedo array.
Cool video. Why didn't you boost more power to the Danubes weapons. You left them at 100%
gives me reason to go into the design section. an redesign the raven with more firepowwer & shields.
Reminds me of the uss Jenolan, from Relics. I wonder what that little ship can do?
When did The Raven leave to "Study the Borg" ? Wasn't 7of9 a little kid? Wouldn't that place that Before the Ent D even First encountered the Borg? Or am I missing/forgetting some minute bit of lore?
looks like the one they found scotty on
would like to point out that the runabouts iirc were classified as tug boats/bigger shuttlecrafts, so yeah do not know what you were thinking about the micro torps.would be good for anti infantry but not ship to ship combat.
It's not too surprising, the Raven was only a civilian science ship, so it should be somewhat underpowered. But I agree the Runabout should probably have won, since it was commonly seen against Birds of Prey and Dominion bug ships.
Tough bird!
I actually think you should have fired as many torpedoes as you could all at once instead of being stingy (but only when you had a near guarantee of hitting all of them). It would increase the chances of scoring a critical hit while reducing their rapid repair advantage (perhaps target a subsystem from the start, that is what I have done when I want to win at all costs and don't care about style). Thing is though, I have practiced David v Goliath battles in this game though to the point where I can actually sometimes win as the defiant vs a hutet (though I haven't played in a few years so I'm probably rusty) so I often expect too much from people in battles that seem to be evenly matched.
For some reason I always thought of the raven as a space rv lol
Raven might be a good support ship for a multiple ship battle scenario
The Raven class they should put more than Star Trek
Target subsystems! I love your vids but when you don't target like shield generators or something it makes a spark or something fly outta my ear ;p lol
The overall shape of the Raven reminds me of Fireball XL5.
The Raven is listed as having no weapons, only defensive stuff. But then again, a weaponless ship in a game about starship fights would've been useless.
Oberth vs Raven? Which is the better 5 person science ship?
The Aerie-Class (Raven-type) was designed for rear-echelon duties. Hell, the Raven has a USS prefix, meaning she was actual Naval Aux Reserve.
You're basically throwing the Ambassador-Class version of the Danube up against the Danube.
That runabout V a jem'hadar attack ship. Please 🙏
Danube Class vs Millennium Falcon? Could be a good matchup. Falcons probably faster and more maneuverable. Danubes got better weapons and shields maybe. Whatdya say Badger?
Not sure how lore accurate this is cause some of the Schematics i have seen for the Raven showed it with only 2 forward facing only phasers. This Configuration makes more sense though, so it may be more logical.
The Raven... wasn't that... did that even have weapons?
Well, it did have Anika 😊
It's too bad that they all got assimilated.
I still hope they make a new Star Trek with Captain Anika.
Edit: Oh... that's an advanced runabout. It did have very good shielding. Once again, the human factor won in the first fight.
We both wrong... I thought that the Raven didn't stand a chance. I thought that you'd win in the runabout.
It would be awesome to see a Star Trek Legacy style show. It could happen. I mean... Picard happened, anythings possible 🖖
Where do you get the (spunge bob) clips from?
I would like to see the Enterprise C duke it out with the Enterprise D
I swear the Raven had a projectile of some sort 4:09
Ok I have a silly challenge: How long can the Raven piloted by RGB survive against a Borg cube?😅
It is quite irrational for a modified merchant ship to have such an offensive capability, especially knowing that an analysis of technology that the Borg considered sufficiently advanced would be enough to initiate an attack. Or it would be easier to track, even if the ship is prepared to try to hide itself electromagnetically (not visually), because the federation's signed treaties forbade that.
Additionally, the Raven seemed to have a much greater agility than that runabout, which doesn't make any sense.
The raven was a civilian vessel it was for civilian explorer's, private family vessel or use by none starfleet scientists as such it would be limited to civilian grade defensive weapons and shields the runabout how ever is purely a starfleet vessel for transporting VIP's, patrolling systems and acting as support for star ships and star bases it has Been shown able to handle battle with the smaller dominion vessels, cardassian ships and even fed starships against a civilian vessel like the raven the runabout should have dominated with ease.
Pretty sure the Raven would have no weapons. My knowledge of Starfleet is they wouldn’t let civilians run around with a ship with phasers.
Raven Vs TOS Connie.
I wonder how the raven would do against other ship in its size range?
The Raven would definitely win this. It is much larger, has a more powerful warp core and faster speed. BUT: the mod here is inaccurate. The Raven does have a forward photon torpedo launcher on the schematics.
I am without watching taking the runabout which is newer
This felt like a joke battle to me. 🙂
I believe it's just the SS Raven, not USS Raven
It's an interesting one this. The hull did indeed say SS Raven. However the computer displays in the ship say USS Raven. It's almost like they changed their mind in production 😂🖖
@@RetroBadgerGaming ha, that's funny. I guess these things happen
Ram them??
"Dan-Yube" Not "Danoob".
The reliant was better.
Just a little pedantic pronouncing info, the word Danube is pronounced danyoob not danooby. I hope that clears that up😅.
THe raven is the Primary Hull of a larger Ship. It is missing it saucer section. Just look at it...
