A 350 hp non high performance C Body Mopar an run quicker than a 5.7 Hemi 5 speed Mopar..
I own a 68 Charger RT and with bias ply tires I could run low 13's after a meltdown..Still a walk then floor it at 25 and sometimes it spun still..I got better tires in 1976 and the car ran 12.80's..I added headers, duel plane intake/carb it ran low to mid 12's..
A 383 2 barrel ,2.76 rear axle 120,000 mile abused, daily driver/tow car 1968 Chrysler Newport ran 14.80's and with me in it and full tank of gas 15 flat..Howe it just hooked and went !
All old road tests are bogus as the cars never hooked ! Different testing methods back then too...Started in 2nd gear, went slow until 30 then floor it,missing 1st gear powerband ! Or they just floored it,spinning the tires !
My Dad's then new 1970 440 6bbl Cuda,727 auto and Dana 3.54 gears ran low 12's brand new,2 weeks later he ran high 11's with slicks that equal modern day 245 60 series for traction...He also had headers and tuned the carbs(jetting etc) Besides headers, carb tuning and slicks 10 inch slicks that is that still spun 100 feet he ran high 11's..Hemi cars with those same mods ran low to mid 11's..
Heck my 72 400 low compression Road Runner with 3.23 gears ran 13.90's all day long and it was dead stock..those low compression engines even spun off the line..
383 2 barrel Challengers ran like a 3.6 awd Challenger,there is a road test of a 383 2bbl Challenger running 14's..There is a 383 4bbl Challenger test on a gravel parking lot,so not good for traction I would say !
Big C body 1965-1971 Chrysler,Plymouth,Dodge cars ran 13's with the 440's and 383's..
My 68 Chrysler 300 440 TNT thats the Magnum version, most had the 350 hp non hp engine that can beat 2005-2008 Chrysler ,Dodge 5.7 Hemi cars but stays on the bumper of the Eagle 5.7 Hemi 2009 -2014..
I own a dealer and am a car collector and restorer, and thse old road tests are truly funny ! As if you knew those cars had skinny tires and had zero traction and times were all over the map..340 4bbl cars beat Hermi's and 440 6bbl lol..383 2 barrel beat 440's and Hemi's lol...
Put 185 70 series 14 inch on your new Hemi cars and race a 3.6 ..The 3.6 would eat you alive as you would spin and spin.
Now I am a Mopar Collector of 1955-1979 cars mainly have a lot over the years..I also own many modern Mopars including a 2019 Hellcat Red Eye on order own a 2015 Hellcat,2015 392 and a 2018 5.7 Hemi 300 ..I owned thse cars since 2005 300's,Magnum,Challenger and 1 Charger...As a dealer owner I get these all the time..
Heck my Sisters 1976 Volare ran 15.30's with stock 360 2bbl ,single exhaust ! My Uncle owned a track back in the 70's and 80's so we raced all the cars..GM,Ford,Mopar all cars ran 11's 12's and 13's..4 door Ford 390 Galxie's ran 14's..the 72 and newer got slower and bogged don with government emission crap..
