Interesting vid- the jazz brass is a great discovery. Worth mentioning that many of the PIANOBOOK sounds can be played without Kontakt using the DECENT SAMPLER that you can download free
There are some insanely good free instruments out there - would be interesting to see a sort of "Challenge" from your channel where starting / new composers get access to the "top tier" sample libraries, and professionals like you are forced to use free instruments. Could result in some great music all around but would definitely showcase skills over tools!
Problem there is that a lot of libraries don't allow you to transfer licenses and the upfront cost would be very high lol
@@georgechadwick8642 They could do something with East West / Cinesamples and do a one month trial for their subscription services. Then they also have a time limit for their challenge lol
@@georgechadwick8642Which is really senseless if you think about it. I have probably $30k or more in sample libraries from most of the biggest names. I'm getting up there in years and won't live forever. I also have about $30k in guitars and amps, which I will pass along to my heirs when I take my last breath. Can't do that with my sample libraries. Even though these companies have $30k of my money, I can't will them to my beneficiaries. I'd have been better off spending that $30k on some Custom Shop guitars and top of the line amps that I could actually pass down when I die. These sample library companies need to change this.
I can't even begin thanking you for making us aware of these incredible freebies, because I'd never stop! I've said it before and I'll say it again, those of us making music at home have never had it so good.
Have you tried century solo brass flugelhorn? it is a paid plug-in, but not terribly expensive and appears to offer some great flexibility, taking the flugelhorn sample through hybrid processes to simulate any brass instrument as well as thoroughly synthetic brassy tones
OMG thank you Guy! The Librewave Rhapsody Bell and Bone! I've been looking for some dynamic brass instruments. Can't wait to try it!
Guy, your videos are delightful and thoroughly entertaining, thank you.
Like it, Guy. The Bell and Bone plugin works really well. Downloaded. Thanks :).
Oh Man. This trumpet is beautiful. Thanks ❤
Lovely composition Guy. I’m amazed at how fast you can get a full idea going.
Wonderful, wonderful piece of music you created there Guy!
Been working for years now on my tracks, utilizing just all the hand-me-downs from my musical major friend, who also received his packs via hand-me-downs from professors. Some hella expensive, some fully free! I love the whole idea of making music with whatever you have at the moment. Not everyone has 800 bucks to spare for an urge to make music for a hobby, rather than a job, so I live for those free plugins, or whatever you get with the DAW purchase pack you get.
What an absolutely amazing composition!
Beautiful.. just beautiful..👍
Thank you so much! It is actually way better to spend money on your courses! Lovely video!
😄
Guy ... thank you... I absorb your musicality with every video
Thank you very much for the video!
Every time I watch one of your videos I laugh. Many times. Thank you Guy!
Again and again, this video (music) just show us your brilliance. Thanks.
Beautifully done.
Sir... this is awesome seen from any perspective... technically and artistically😊
Thanks Guy!!
Great selection of freebies Guy - Vital is pretty amazing for nowt! Sine libraries, BBC SO & Project Sam Free Orchestra are superb too
Love that music! Really spacious gently melodic….wow!
I've actually more or less stopped downloading free instruments. I know this sounds ungrateful/ungracious, but my system was getting threatened with being totally swamped. And most of them I've only fiddled around with - I haven't actually used them on any projects. So nowadays I only download ones I can forsee a definite use for. Having said that, that Bells & Bones one and the banjo one are pretty tempting! Nice 7/8 composition, too. Thanks, Guy.
Pretty sure the banjo is one of the ones included in Logic.
Just wanted to mention that an increasing number of Pianobook freebies are either available for both Kontakt and the free Decent Sampler or just for the Decent Sampler.
Do not be fooled by the Decent Sampler being free. It is a full-featured application, and there are hundreds of free libraries for it. As Mr_Crumbly said, quite a few of the libraries offered on Pianobook are available in both Kontakt and Decent Sampler. You can even find some SFZ versions as well.
Love the way you think learn so much!!!
Really enjoyed that! Somehow gave me 90's Goldsmith vibes.
awesome tune guy WOW! have to agree the courses are gold! cheers janosch
Thank you very much, Guy 🤗
I am so glad you are back in Logic. It feels like a warm fire on a cold night. :)😊
I swap around as I know a lot of you arte logic users
If you get a high profile gig, do you use the same approach to writing the track i.e. improvise straight into the DAW? Or do you have a more structured approach?
The word “FREE” is very friendly word to my student brain
Definitely a House of Cards intro theme kind of vibe with the Bells and Bones coming in.
Pianobook is pretty awesome as well!
That Spitfire Labs error you keep getting is because the sample for the selected preset has not been installed. Spitfire loads all available previews from all of the Labs products, but if that category has not been downloaded and installed using the Spitfire Audio app, then the error is presented during the sound preview in Komplete Kontrol.
That VSL harp glis freebee is awesome!
Thanks!,
Ace advise Ace resources and a wonderful composition as I don my sunglasses of envy 🙏🏿🙏👍🎶
Good idea! It's gonna be great!
Guy is Magic !
That trumpet sounds amazing
Anything that evokes Tubular Bells is worthy. Well done!
Bwing! My new favorite expression.
Only limited by your creation, not the price of your libraries. Great job!
Hi Guy, hope you are doing excellent. Could you consider making a sound comparison between traditional orchestral plugins and acoustic samples vwinds. Sampling modeling instruments are sounding very realistic to my ears but your point of view on this matter would be great before investing in this expensive products. Thank you
Haha it's nice that you chose the same rhythm as "Unsquare Dance" for an ostinato, considering this is a famous one aswell!
Thank you again for a great video, Guy! The music is really outstanding, too. I myself use a lot of free resources due to financial reasons, and I know most of these - except Bells and Bones which sounds crazy good!!! Definitely checking it out soon. BTW, all started for me with your channel and the How to Write Music course, so great thanks again!
I bought music theory course because i am for sure lacking this knowledge in my production and also because I like this Guy A Lot! Lets roll! :-)
I loved this song
hey Guy, you forgot all the free libraries for the decent sampler (David Hilowitz) sample player, you can also make your own libraries and put effects on it with code like with kontakt, but then for free, there are already a lot of free libraries for DS created by different music creators, one thing tough, the code is specific for DS, it is not KSP (kontakt) cheers m8
And most of the Pianobook libraries are available for Decent Sampler as well, so they can be consideret absolutely free!
LETS GOOOOO
IMHO The courses are awesome and the best investment you could ever make in yourself, black friday or not!
I don't know if you have ever covered it but "Concerto" is the Roland legacy software and it's all FREE!!! And it covers almost all of the synths from the 80s and 90s and has a tone of Orchestral stuff so well worth a look one of the best free software collections available in my opinion.
Concerto was ''discontinued'' in the Roland website.
Yessir! i will do music with free instruments 😎
This 7/4 is really cool... but are you recording in a 4/4 grid?
VPs avenger 2.0 just dropped too
Is that a fader that you're using with your left hand? Is that attached to your controller?
Vital is awesome, but please consider getting the paid version to support the author.
I STILL ADD SOME TUBULAR BELLS...
Whats the spec of the machine you use ? ta!
Ah, yes. I've grown tired of having to figure out how to fix the LABS errors every couple of weeks! The offer some nice free stuff, but in this case, I think you get what you pay for.
Very Very Good
hi Guy, the vital chords sound like something Phil Collins would have made for miami vice 😎
U can check the sourge xt
Oooooooh! Guy's on Logic!
I spread the love!
In the MIXING COURSE of yours, you are mentioning "5 songs, delivered as stems, to practice your mixing techniques, including 2 MinusONE™ projects...". What is a "MinusOne" ptoject ?? Thank you !
MinusONE projects are where we give you part of a project and you add an element so in trailer music for example you get a trailer track miuns the epic perc and you add that. In mixing you mix vocals in a premixed track - it allows you to focus on one element at a time and get a result really fast
@@ThinkSpaceEducation Yesterday Jake answered me in details and thanks to his very fast and detailed explanation I bought the course :)
I love sepcials
(typo in the title btw)
Thank you very much!🙏
Hi Guy,
Thank you for the music.... okay, Abba.
Anyway, great videos as always. Would love to have a longer version of this composition or just a loop.
Noticed maybe this one struck your fancy and you decided not to post it, but the haunting trumpet against the background of the string ostinato is just genius here.
I will be getting my MIDI/USB cable on Monday to pair my years-old Yamaha keyboard with my recently-built powerhouse. After that I may find myself taking a few hours or so a week off from my 24 hour job just to start creating.
Was thinking about Cakewalk, but now that they are going to go for a paid model (can't blame them, but I'm self-centered I guess) that maybe Cubase is the ticket for me.
If I had not happened on your videos just a week ago, I would honestly not be thinking about making music at all, but now I'm eager to jump in. I wrote a few clumsy pieces 50 years ago in High School when i had to transpose all the instruments manually, and then dived into the corporate world. Now ready to take the ideas in my head and see if they develop into anything.
Be well, Guy.
@8:52 gives me Death Note vibes
I tried to sign up to your thinkspace page. your sign up form is informing me my email address is invalid (which it isn't), any chance of looking into this?
Thanks we'll check it out now
@@ThinkSpaceEducation Thanks, I tried signing up 23rd nov about 15:30 GMT if that helps find it, a PayPal is sitting in limbo.
@@aural_escape I run into this every now and then, especially on gov't website forms.... I just backspace my email address a few characters, re-type the characters I just deleted and press enter. Works 99.9% percent of the time. Hopefully that works for you.
@@aural_escape this happens to me every now and then, especially on gov't forms. backspace a few characters of your email and re type them and press Enter. For me, this fixes the problem 99.9% of the time
@@whistlinggardens-botanical7694 Thanks for the tip, I'll give this a try. I'm fairly certain it has something to do with my email not being on a typical domain, which the sign up form is expecting as a way of combating spam. it's only the second time I've encountered this.
X-men trumpet
I have a theory: If everyone buys the same plugins they tend to make the same kind of music, but when everyone downloads the same free plugins, they dont. Because there's an element of compromise and discovery.
Check Norland Trumpet. Loads of mutes. Free
How's Larry? Has he made an appearance lately?
HA! I suspect Larry lost out to a fox but you never know
I tried the course "introduction to mixing" and can not recommend it. Good text infos but the videos are, and I am trying to be as nice as I can, not good. Messy and all over the place. Hardly anything gets properly explained. I could not believe what I saw there. The only thing that got explained into every little detail was something the teacher afterwards explained as something he never uses because there are better ways to do it. Well done! Maybe it´s getting better later in the course but I stopped after the third video, ready to throw things at my monitor.
I completed the course and found it very useful. If you only got to the 3rd video, are you referring to one of the “Mix Workflow” videos? They explain that the video is an overview of the entire process and not meant to be a deep detailed tutorial (these come later in the course). If you complete the course, everything shown in “The Mix Workflow” is eventually described in detail as you progress.
@@StutzVanH I saw that this was an overview video but I had the feeling that the videos that came after that were even more rushed. No doubt, there are useful elements in there but the overall structure was messy and hard to follow for an absolute beginner like me.
To all of you: What are in your opinion the best Black Friday deals on orchestral libraries?
Orchestral Tools' Berlin Strings bundle is half off right now at 850EU$ (from 1700EU$)
Virtuoso Ensembles by Kirk Hunter Studios 29.99$(Original cost 299.99$) from ADP ends in 21 h as of writing this
"cant create account" on spitfire audio
This is very sepcial
[BLACK FRIDAY SEPCIAL] Do we need some Dettol? 😁
Sci fi noir.
I honestly wish you'd just get on with it rather than trying to sell a lot of also ran courses. Come on.
Orchestral Tools also do a LABS like instrument on their SINE player which is way better than Layers, just saying
Ah thanks - I will investigate
"I think this thing I use is way better for you to make your music than whatever you're using"
The epitome of music snobery. Let people use whatever the hell they please without trying to sponsor whatever you use, please.
Sine Players Layers is ok but doesn't have the variety of instruments that Labs has.
