Hey thanks for this clear cut video. My dryer hasn't produced heat in a while. I was being kind of lazy and cheap for no good reason to call out a professional. I been using fluff to dry which works but takes hours. I watched your video, popped the lid and saw one of those red wires wasn't connected to that thermo thingy so I connected it back. Now it's kicking out heat. Thanks so much! 🙏 😊
That’s awesome! Glad it could help!
What a great setup-“I have to figure this out before my wife wants me to buy a new dryer.” I love that. Another great video helping us newbie DIY-ers take care of stuff at home!
Thanks! Ha. It’s always fun trying to figure out new things! Thanks again!
😅
Nicely done. Thanks, from Richmond, VA.
Thank you!
Thanks for the info. I will try checking this items out this coming week. Looks easy.
Nice. Yeah it’s not too bad. Let me know if you fix it.
The one on top is the hi limit thermostat, the one on the side down under is the fuse, you got that mixed up.
Oh thanks for that! I appreciate it.
Thank you for your help!
You got it!
Super helpful. Thanks!
Your welcome! Thanks
For that thermal fuse, you may want to mark one of the wires with a sharpie and then mark the corresponding panel behind it so you don't get the wires on backwards.
Great call. Thanks!
Thank you for your help.
You got it! Thanks for letting me know!
I swear I’m losing it 😂 I’m glad you mentioned making sure it’s not on fluff no heat because that was exactly my problem. I guess when I flipped it to clean the the dryer vent I must have bumped it.
Yeah that happened to use before as well! I’m glad you were able to fix it!
Lol I'm glad that I saw your comment! When I was watching this part of the video I thought it's so nice of him to remind people but I never used air fluff. And then I saw this comment so I decided to double check anyway. It turns out that my MIL did it couple days ago and did not tell me. :D
@@luosuo9929 yeah. It happens. Especially if someone else uses your stuff. Ha.
@@TryThisDIYFix That's right! And thank you for the video. It looks very helpful although I did not have to take apart my dryer this time.
@@luosuo9929 you got it! Glad it helped!
THANKS YOU I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT MAN AND I WILL TRY TO SEE IF THAT WORKS

The thermal fuse is the small nickel size object that you have to go down deep to remove in this video. It has white wires attached. The high limit thermostat is the large object at 1:17 that has red wires attached. It should have a reading printed on it like L248-80 F on it. You have the names switched.
Dang sorry about that. Thanks for clarifying!
Hi great video. Thank you. My dryer heats sometimes but doesn’t during other times (sometimes it needs 3 cycles to dry the clothing). Can you hazard a guess as to what might be the problem? Thanks again.
Hmm. That sounds weird. So it does work sometimes? I have no idea why it would work sometimes and not others. You might replace the items I recommend and then see if that fixes it.
@@TryThisDIYFix thnx for getting back to me…🙂
@@healingpractice3212 it could also be your dryer vent. Make sure it isn’t full of lint.
Do you have a video on how to change the belt on the Maytag Performance dryer?
Not yet but check out my friends DIY channel here: ua-cam.com/users/TightWadDIY
Replaced my washer discharge pump & dryer heating element has saved me thousands of dollars...20 years and still running...try that with ANYTHING that has a circuit board.
That is great to know! DIY will save you money! Thanks for sharing!
Great How too video!! My issue was the dryer wouldn't turn on. my smaller thermal fuse (white wires) had no continuity and was the culprit. Only couple of things (not covered) regarding the 2 white wires, Does it matter which terminal you connect them to? are they interchangeable? (same question about the red wires on the thermostat? Got everything reassembled, the thermal fuse was tricky to put in place. HOWEVER the top of my dryer and back vent get very hot.. pretty fast. I don't know if it did this before and I've already cleaned and checked for blockage. Did i mix the wires to the fuses? They seem to go onto either terminal not markings to indicate which side to plug them into.
Hmmm. Thats a great question. Im not sure. Im not an electrician but you are just making a circuit so I would think they are interchangeable. Keep me updated on this one!
@@TryThisDIYFix Well it is working just fine now (thanks for the quick reply) I would agree interchangeable, there are no distinguishing marks to indicate current flow direction) Thanks again for the video..
@@Somerain you got it! Thanks for the question!
Thank you
You got it! I hope it helped!
Thanks for your site. Our drier works fine worn on the “time” cycle, but barely dries when on any of the other cycles. What would you advise? Thanks in advance
Hmmm. Good question. Is the temp setting on? Like high or low? Also how old is your dryer?
Just as a follow up: I replaced the temperature sensors (easy 15 minute fix) and machine is working fine
@@sanfordglikin3521 that’s awesome! Thanks for letting me know!
Hello Is there a way to test the element though? Clothe is damp and dryer adds more time something it didn’t used to do. It seems to be blowing hot air but not sure if it should be hotter.
Hmmm, did you check to make sure it’s on hot (on the dial) also did you check the lint trap? If those are good your element could be going out. It’s not a tough fix. Try it and let me know.
Update
Heating element was bad. I replaced it and now it’s working. Yes I was able to test it and had no continuity. When I opened element housing element was broken :)
@@apostolicway2604 that’s awesome! I’m glad you were able to fix it!
Question: I changed everything - timer, cycling thermostat down by blower, heating element and thermostat, but someone had bypassed the thermo fuse below the heating element. The dryer heated perfectly before, though, then just stopped blowing any heat. Could it be the bypassed fuse? But if so, why did it work before? Confused with this unit. Maybe another part needs replaced? Thank you!
Hmmm. I’m not sure. But that can be dangerous if someone by passes one of the items. Yeah I’d check the bypass fuse too just to make sure. That could be what’s making it not heat up. Also check the wires in the back those can sometimes get blown.
did you ever solve the problem?
Also my coils have ohms registering but one of plastic coverings. Of where they attach is brown like it has been burned
Yeah. If it’s burned then you probably need to replace it.
Is your dryer in the video an electric or gas powered? I have a Maytag gas dryer that has the propane conversion installed on it. The dryer spins fine but there is no heat.
Mine is an electric. It could be one of the items I pointed out in the video. It might be worth trying the kit to see if it fixes the issue.
The inlet grill on my five year old Maytag is very corroded and jagged and discolored. I have never smelled smoke. Everything I have looked up says nothing about how I should handle this. My dryer does work and heats up... Can you give me any advice? Thank you.
Hmmm, maybe reach out to Maytag and see what they say. If everything is running fine I don’t see a problem. But once it begins to mess up then you might need to fix it. I hope that helps, sorry it’s not very specific! But thanks for watching and let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks
Thank you for your reply.
@@wilsoncomfort you got it. Hopefully that helped some.
Extender pole would be a nice addition to my tool chest!
Haha. Yes! I’m pretty sure my mom got it for me.
I also dropped my socket into the bottom of my dryer. I ran a heavy magnet on a string at first to fetch it, but it was so strong it attached to all the metal .. Finally took the solid tubing from my vacuum cleaner, ran the string of the magnet down inside it.. then used the tubing to control the descent to fetch the socket.
My dryer gives zero heat . The high limit thermostat is gone on mine. Fuse was fine. According to the metre.
I’d recommend just replacing everything and see if that fixes it.
my dryer looks just like this one but when I lift the top I don’t see the thermal fuse, there are two other things with wires that are blue and brown and both black on the other
Hmmm. What brand do you have?
What I said the wiring just drops down under drum
Where can I get the parts needed
I have a link in the description.
I have this dryer configuration but I can’t find the part number on Amazon what is the part number for this
Hey Patrick, thanks for watching! The item I used is in the description. Check that and see if that’s the one you need. Let me know if it works for you. Thanks again.
Seems like the high limit thermostat and heating coil has no continuity and the fuse is snipped and capped already…
Yeah I’d say change them out and see what happens.
My high limit thermostat didn't have anything connected to it. It was just sitting in there
Is it new to you? Someone might have bypassed it.
Maytag 200 series i see none of those components no thermostat the wires harness just drops down under drum
Hmm. I’m not sure about that, can you see where the wires go?
Heating element
Nice. Was that the problem with yours?
This looks like a HYE3657AYW.
Probably so. Thank you!
Thermal fuse "if there's continuity you will see the numbers on your meter." Nothing changed on the meter. Does that mean it is bad? I guess so. On heating element never saw test results. So are we to assume you think it's bad? Mark the wires and their respective terminals. You need to assume you are giving instruction to a caveman.
Ha. Yes the wires were bad as well so I just changed all the parts, fuse and heating element. They normally come in a pack together.
