Indian Motorcycle: The Thunder Stroke 111
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 вер 2024
- Take a look inside the Thunder Stroke 111™ engine. A forged single pin crankshaft, extensively tested for over 1 billion revolutions, is the heart of the 49 degree V-Twin. A three cam pushrod engine allows for a reduction in overall height, centralized mass, and maximum torque.
The six speed transmission features helical cut gears for smoothness, reliability, and easy shifting. The large clutch is designed to harness that power without a heavy clutch pull. One thing is for certain, The Thunder Stroke 111™ will never be mistaken for average.
Choice is Coming to American Motorcycles.

I really applaud Indian for making this video for all the Gearheads out there (like me). It's really cool to see all the internals come together and how they operate, while they highlight the different technologies they applied. For all you haters, this is what you might call, "RetroMod". It's not built for a Japanese race bike. It's a tribute to what people love and want from an American Cruiser, with newer and more reliable technology built in. They built it that way on purpose.
It's a masterpiece of industrial design. I want one for my living room.
This brings a tear in my eye, I hope you succeed guys!
This video was the coolest thing I've ever seen. This was a seriously high tech video, and Indian is totally transparent and honest about every good and bad thing about their motorcycles. They aren't trying to deceive people. They are actually a totally honest American company, and I hope they continue to succeed. Buyers are not stupid, and they want to be treated like gear heads and adults, not like mindless consumers who only want fancy badges.
What a great video! The last 30 seconds takes the cake! Will buy.
Great video. I friggin' LOVE my Chief Classic. It's a torque monster at any speed...and a damn tank. Solid.
I did, and I absolutely LOVE the engine. It's smooth, torquey, sounds amazing, and makes so much power at high revs that your average HD rider would need a spare pair of depends if they ever dared to go WOT with it.
The HD Milwaukee 8 is a better engine. Where are the 4 valves per head? Where are the oil cooled heads? Where is the engine oil cooler for that matter? I don't see any of that on the 111.
I am drooling. This engine sounds so beefy. Can't wait to ride one.
Love the sound effect of it assembling itself. Reminds me of a bolt action rifle cycling between rounds. The unmistakable noise of precision.
This is an extra-ordinary engine...very impressive torque...outstanding get up and go...supe smooth. Good job Polaris and Team for bringing the V-Twin motor to modern specs.--- Motorcycle Marc. #Thunderstroke111
Hello Bobshaff, thank you for the question. Indian Motorcycle and Victory Motorcycles share the same parent company: Polaris Industries. The Thunder Stroke 111 was built from the ground up and shares no parts with the Victory Motorcycles engine.
The thunderstroke 111 shows how tight the tolerances are. I give Polaris the credit for designing a durable engine. They can run gear drive on cams. Harley has too much crank pin runout to do that. Harley is cutting too many corners to make higher profits for the higher ups.
THANK YOU USA 🇺🇲 INDAIN MOTORCYCLE COMPANY FOR SHOWING THE WORLD HOW THE INDAIN MOTORCYCLE MOTOR ENGINE WORKS INSIDE KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK INDAIN MOTORCYCLE USA 🇺🇲
My stunning 2019 Indian Springfield in steel gray and burgundy metallic and I concur, the TS 111 is an absolute jewel of an engine! Cruiser Heaven, all day, every day!
Choice was here when Victory hit the streets. I do love the motor though. Will look better when someone ditches that huge air cleaner to show off that engine
What a great motor. Had a chance to ride on of the new Indians and loved it.
Good luck for the new start
Harley guys won't run....they will embrace it. Harley Davidson and the founders of Indian motorycles were FRIENDS in the beginning. There was no animosity. There won't be now. In fact they used to get together and party before each new model year to show off to each other what they came up with.....They were ENTHUSIASTS and VERY GOOD FRIENDS. Harley guys, like myself (3rd generation, Grandpa also had an excelsior-henderson), love Indian motorcycles. God bless Polaris, just feels right.
Hello Everyone, the Thunder Stroke 111 was built from the ground up & shares no parts with the Victory Motorcycles or S&S engines. Our new heart is being built in Osceola, WI & will be available later this year in the all-new 2014 Indian Motorcycle. The Thunder Stroke 111 has 111 cubic inch displacement and 115 ft-lbs of torque offering best in class performance. You can see more details and specs about the engine on our website. Thanks to each of you for all of your comments.
Cool animation, impressive looking engine.
Thank you for your kind comment. The stats I've seen and I've seen them in many places, say that Harley commands more than 50 percent of the American market. But you could be just as right if you include all vehicle sales at Honda dealerships such as ATVs, etc. Nice to have a polite conversation with someone about this and I wish Indian all the success in the world.
you guys got my money, no matter what the price is.
A true work of art! Please make another Scout.
NICE POWER PLANT,FINALLY!CONGRATS TO THE ENGINEERS!
oh man i think i want one now
I've had my roadmaster for 4 years. Excellent service from it. The style, the little details all blend to make a great ride. Since this year makes 50 I've been on the roads, I think my opinion might be of value. I like to take my trunk off and wow, the handling improves. That trunk is very functional and lighted, with the power port, gives you a place to charge stuff out of the weather. Also power port in right saddlebag. Plus one up on the dash panel. The windshield option of up and down helps on long trips. Oh, yeah, and the option to plug your phone in it handy, too. Direct connection for blue tooth. I get a lot of comments on this bike. People like that retro look. Old guys (LOL) like me, tell me about their old Indians from back in the day. Yeah, my Harley brothers still talk to me, most of the time.
I know a guy at work that's has the Vintage and it sounds awesome.
Mn look forward to seeing an Indian in UK soon then, I know you own Victory as well, some of them bikes a nice too
This engine is one beautiful air-cooled v-twin sporting a solid forged single-crankpin crankshaft riding on plain automotive-type bearings with two side-by-side connecting rods that does away with the "crankshaft run-out" problem that plagues H-D three-piece crankshafts! Unit construction with no primary-chain to boot! All these years I've stuck with H-D out of brand-loyalty and pure ignorance; however, now my eyes have seen the light! This engine from Indian is the BEST example of an air-cooled v-twin we will ever see. Soon, this engine along with all other air-cooled v-twins will disappear due to EPA emissions and noise stipulations. Get an Indian "Thunder-Stroke" v-twin now, while you still can! :-)
I agree. Harley Davidson crankshafts are a joke. I guess that is part of their heritage. I give them credit. They do a good job with paint and chrome.
Absolutely beautiful animation.
What a beautiful Motor!
Sweet , thank you .
Excellent moteur à la hauteur de la marque originale, j'en suis ravi !!
Absolutely beautiful!!!
Looks great very similar to the S&S X wedge
Absolutely astonishing sound!!! The OHV is nowadays also very original. Hope to get some day one of motorcycles with this power unit.
All best from Poland!
Like the way they make it look like a Flathead, but it's a pushrod motor, Cool.
impressive, i cannot wait to see how it runs.
The ending gave me chills!
I am so happy it's a pushrod motor!
Holy shit, another air cooled v-twin, truly choice is coming to America.
there are 2 versions , one before February 2019 equipped with 5.5-quart engines. These motorcycles have shorter dipsticks. When installed, they show a silver ring on the crankcase. one after February 2019 or later are equipped with a 6.0-quart engine. They feature a longer dipstick.
That actually gave me goosebumps
Its amezing editing
Beautiful engine
That's art!
They should have added a kick starter, half the fun used to be watching guys trying to start their bikes back in the 60's.
I also own and ride an '07 Hayabusa. Different bikes for different rides. My Streetglide is my go-to bike though. I've ridden since I was 14, have owned just about every kind of bike you can imagine and I'll be 68 this year. Drive my truck an average of 400 miles a year. Don't need a spare anything...-L-
Love that new victory motor👍
I love my 2016 Chief Vintage
Looks promising.NOW put it in a modern lightweight bike with classic Indian styling cues & You'll have a winner!
Sweet.
Hello Everyone, the all-new Indian Motorcycle will have pricing that is more attainable than it has been in the recent past. We cannot, however, share pricing at this time.
I know I’m late to the party but this maybe the coolest thing I’ve ever seen
So thats how they're assembled.
Looks good
Best engine vid I ever saw ... It a shame I can't own a Indian or a victory .. Too expensive for me .. :-(
Awesome video! ))
Let's see. My SG has a fly-by-wire throttle, an engine that will run 100K without any major problems if you do the service and don't ride like a fool, the most user friendly control layout, is oil-tight, has terrific fuel injecton and catalytic mufflers, belt drive, a six speed tranny and etc. Plus it has a cigarette lighter! Most importantly, the kickstand doesn't fold up like Japanese bikes do and a horn that actually works. And Charles, form one old fart to another, it's all good... ;- )
Steve I didn't even see what ya said :) ride free stay
safe man :)
Go Indian & Victory. Watch out HDs. The best is coming.
Goosebumps guaranteed!!!
I just wish that oil cooler was a stock item and that the oil filter had SOME kind of protection on it . But I do LOVE my Indian Chief Vintage with the 111 , smooth as silk and fine as wine .
Thank you
We hope to have in Italy
Ivan Peverada
WOW! It even looks like an Indian flathead! Is there any video of the new frame/body? How many degrees is the V-twin? PS I'm from Middletown, Connecticut, home of Indian Number 1...
Keep Rockin'. !!!
Hello BlindTom61, the all-new Indian Motorcycle will have pricing that is more attainable than it has been in the recent past. We cannot, however, share pricing at this time.
I thought when Polaris launched Victory in 1997 that it would have been smart for them to have acquired the Indian name instead. Victory makes good bikes and they have been a success but having the heritage of the Indian name would have really helped them.
Anyway this is the first time since 1953 that Indian motorcycles will not be badge engineered bikes built on a shoe string.I hope they use this engine to build a more sporting bike on the order of the Confederate Hellcat or Yamaha MT01
W-O-W !!!
Street bikes operate below 3000 rpm 99% of the time. DOHC is a benefit over 8000 rpm only. Although it is true that twin cams allow for variable valve timing of the intake and exhaust independently.
Indian....best push rod motor.
Love it!!!!
Yeah, it does look a bit like S&S's X-Wedge. It should make for a great power-plant for anyone who wants reliability with throw-back styling. I remember helping a pal restore a 1947 Cheif. Ride safe.
im hoping they do exactly that not make it to flashy. i like the street bob because its so raw and basic but still powerful
It would be nice to see a complete bike very soon. I understand it will be awhile before production models hit the showroom floor but a complete bike will really get things amped up. Also the smart thing to do would be to sell them at existing Victory dealers as it will bring more people in to see the Victory bikes as well. So you'll get people to buy the Indian while also increasing sales for the Victory bikes. If you get the Indian right I'd like to sell them. Would be interested in training .
Actually it was Harley-Davidson that introduced the worlds first 3 speed gear box at the Isle of Mann, way before your time Pal.
I've always had Honda' s And had very good luck with them. Than I want & tried a Victory Cross Country & fell in love with it. It was faster then my VTX 1800 & better ride. I did beat HDs with my VTX1800. I had Gold Wings also.
Cant wait to see the 108 water cooled version of the similar style video
holy sweet mother of Jesus. you Harley boys better run for the hills
The cylinder head fins even have the appearance of those on the old flathead motor; neat trick! Pity it couldn't have been a desmodromic engine, though.
the most beautiful V-twin ever
Can't wait
I wish Indian would make something comparable to the Dyna and/or Sportster is price and performance, ie; $9K-$13K range.
very cool demo vid
what do you think : maybe try a Indian custom build after my youtube project is finished> > >?
wish more bike makers would do vids like this. xlent 2 watch
Got to love the forged crankshaft! Harley’s cranks suck ass! Most failures in a Harley engine are caused by the crank either directly or indirectly! Go Indian/Polaris keep up the good work!
1800cc ?
It looks like the exhaust valve is opening immediately after the intake valve without waiting for the power stoke. Did the animators get it wrong?
what a video!
SWEET .
Wow! Extremely complicated.
check out some buells, they're harley engines but they have been tuned up by a large amount.
So pretty.
Bad-ass animation.
And like so many other posters here, I'll never be able to afford one. But to be completely honest, do I "really" want one? One thing that bothers me about "having another American choice" is that it's yet "another V-twin". COME ON PEOPLE!
Build us a motorbike that's not under powered AND over priced!
It's fun to imagine the rebirth of an American classic but if it "were" really "Indian", shouldn't it be spelled MOTOCYLE?
outstanding vid......
but i'll take the engine and leave the rest
'10 XC
SONDS OF THE MOTORCICLES IS BEST MUSIC
Awesome, who did the VFX here?
Sorry, Indian, not India. FWIW, my first BIG bike was a '48 Chief. That was almost 50 years ago. It was green with yellow grips and I paid 200 bucks for it in 1963. I was 18...
I'd love to see this beautiful engine in an original post-war style frame, it would be like a modern "Vindian"...If these guys aren't interested in a real modernised 1940's style bike maybe they'd let Kiwi use the 111...
Yes,I've got the links,which cannot be posted here.Is wikipedia enough for You?If not,send me a PM.Cheers!
HERMOSO
So this is a victory owned brand right? If it runs anything like my freedom motor I'm interested
What will be the price range of the new Indian motorcycles? Any idea yet?
