Kenn in this you did justice to this song because this one does deserve it. This song did need it because this one Rocks. It's hard to believe that this song was recorded 50 yrs ago. 1968 will always be an important yr. for me. I certainly liked the way you enhanced it. It certainly sounds fantastic especially something that Rocks.
Ken, This was and still is a favorite song released in what was certainly a sumultuous summer. You've added real value to the original, making it sound like it was meant too from the get-go. Peace, Justin
I lived in Wheeling, 1967-1969, and surely do remember this song blasting over the airwaves in those days. That, and the Cubs breaking all of our hearts. A pain that never goes away...
Umm. One hit wonder? This is Status Quo. Look them up; they had quite a few hits many bigger than this. I love this too, but it's from before they found the style that propelled them to the big hits. One hit wonder? I ask you. Rollover lay down, Caroline, Down Down, paper Plane, Rockin' all over the world, Whatever you want....
Listen to the mono version...you will hear the wah wah guitar...so cool to this tune...and so missed on this version and the stereo version....what happened???
I've read your description - should you try a Hollies song? Which would be twin brother' for this Status Quo song - none other than Tomorrow When It Comes comes to head
Kenn, I think I may know how you make the vocals more clear. Do you possibly sing along (lyrics in hand) with the song, and then just mix in the the high frequencies (treble part) of your voice?
Yes I do layer extra vocals cause there is no way to give it that stereo effect. It's very prominent on the ABBA songs I've done. It must be done very carefully adjusting the (trimmers) both on the sound board and computer EQ and sung in such a way they it's almost undetectable. Kenn
Since I´m a Vietnam vet with major PTSD, I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night, and that´s the friggin´ truth. Next I´ll just Drop in to See What Condition my Condition was In. And I had a Psychotic Reaction because I was Pushin´ Too Hard. Sometimes I have dreams of Matchstick Men and I kill ´em all with my M-16 when I take a Journey To The Center Of My Mind. I awaken with a Whiter Shade of Pale. Just wish I had some Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

@@waldoparsnip1025 I'm always up late. I simply cannot sleep any more. We were supposed to see Bob Hope but the army chopper pilot couldn't find our unit. (Dumb Army pilots-should've been Marines). And no Joey Heatherton. Would like to have seen both.

The flanger, along with the wah-wah guitar, is missing with the original Pictures of Matchstick Men from the Stereo release. All that is only from the Mono release.
I had long forgotten songs like this from my youth. Thank you for bringing them back to life for all us boomers and hopefully the next generations.
I only just found this video in early 2023. This is a gorgeous mellow version of this song. It meshes right into the group.

The Tom Moulton Remix is great, too! I like this one, also!
Fabulous.

The best sing they did, awesome sound.
I thought I was too old for flashbacks
The “matchstick men” of the song refers to the paintings of Salford artist L. S. Lowry

Yeah a hollies tune !...great
Status Quo went on to greatness.

Still, a great song!

Any reason why the intro guitars are like a quarter or halftone higher?
No Wah pedal, no good....I'll take the Mono version, but thanks for participating
I wish you'd used the mono version with the wahwah effect instead of the shittier stereo version. Still great cover through
WHY DID YOU CUT OUT THE KEYBOARD ?
where's the flanger?
The flanger, along with the wah-wah guitar, is missing with the original Pictures of Matchstick Men from the Stereo release. All that is only from the Mono release.
missing a wah wah guitar overdub
The wah wah would be nice but I don't have one!
I like it better this way! I never cared for that wah-wah overdub. This is SUPERB!!!!
