Every time i hear it, it takes me back straight to watching that episode of TOTP... 13 years old and a lifetime ahead... here at 56, I'm wondering where on earth that time has gone!
Me too! I'm 60, and have been binge watching Adam Ant videos lately (can't stop! 😅). I haven't heard THIS particular track though since back then!!! I DO remember it, although I can't remember seeing it on Top of the Pops. I love the drums!!
I am 56 too. I remember seeing it on Top of the Pops. It was an instant attention grabbing ear worm. I loved the tune and the arrangement but the lyrics were so crap. This is the song which should have been given a soul and meaning with lyrics. Had it been so endowed it would have become a classic and been remembered. I remember people singing it at school the next day. The Dungeons and Dragons crowd loved it. I didn't. I found it to be utterly contrived and plasticised muso-pulp and I thought the stage performance forged and the costumery and face makeup preposterous and desperate. I hated the lyrics instantly. Seeing it again just now, I can see how catchy it is and how well designed it is as a pop product. Pure pop. 24 carat pop. But which muppet allowed those lyrics???
@@hi-dh8dj Really? That's brilliant! I bloody loved Eddie and Tenpole Tudor when I was a young teenager. That music made my head go off!! Great times!!
Saw him support VooDoo Glowskulls a few years back and he was Top, He dodged a few expertly lobbed pint glasses aimed at his head, didn't miss a word or a chord. Sharp as a tack and funny.
I was 20 when this aired in 1981! This song has been a never forgotten tune for me over the decades. Stumbled on this clip n its given me goose bumps watching it. A truly glorious tune!!😊😂
John. I was a year younger and my god weren’t they great days. No mobiles. No troubles. Just hard work and then play hard. Jettison me back then from 1980 to 1990. I’d die a happy man.
Love it!! I also like how the kids were sitting in 3 lines behind all nicey nice, orderly and civilized to a performance like that. Oh how times have changed. I actually remember seeing this on TOTP back then and really liking it. Where did those 40 years go?
There's a recording of a Wire show in the early 80s for German television, they all look like they're in a doctor's waiting room, they had no idea what hit them.
I like the fact that the singing is what I call the greatest hits of all time from temple Tudor poll I was seven years old at the time of this one Richard McGeechan ❤
Deep in the castle and back from the wars Back with my baby and the fire burned tall "Hoorah", went the men down below All outside was the rain and snow Hear their shouts, hear their roar They've probably all had a barrel or much, much more Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah Over the hill with the swords of a thousand men We had to meet the enemy a mile away Thunder in the air and the skies turned gray Assemblin' the knights and their swords were sharp There was hope in our English hearts Hear our roar, hear our sound We're gonna fight until we have won this town Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah Over the hill with the swords of a thousand men The knights come along at the end of the day Some were half-alive and some had run away Hear our triumph, in our roar We're gonna drink a barrel or much, much more Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah Over the hill with the swords of a thousand men Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah, yeah Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah, yeah Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah, yeah Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah Hoorah, hoorah, hoorah, yeah, yeah

Throughout my teanage years and beyond I played great songs over and over ,number one was while having breakfast in cafe at pleasure beach blackpool ,before work and whilst eating brekky ,I put on the juke box ,into the valley by the skids loved it ,and another one swords thousand men ,every morning at an old girlfriend's house ,she loved it lots of laughs ,then number 3 whilst sharing a house working with few lads it was strange town by the jam over and over repeat ,and went like that for a while ,then like all good things came to an end .
I always love these videos when bands that are clearly riddled with love of drink, drugs and other incredibly fun things play their songs to an audience of cardigan wearing teeny boppers.

yes, up against it and still winning through, lol. Yet in my version the English would have the Welsh, Irish and Scots beside them, the great alliance that formed the biggest empire of all time. And always up against the odds.

In pubs around the UK when tadpole is in town it is.
It is and was but not for the reasons you think!! ....sadly!!
Agreed. And I'm Scottish 😁
Tenpole Tudor what a legend
