    I completely agree with your guys' thoughts on Grievous. LoE and the tie in comics which revealed his backstory made him one of my favorite characters in Star Wars because he's essentially a tragic anti-hero who's perfectly justified in his desire for vengeance. He lost his family, friends and everybody he'd ever known because the Republic was so mired in corruption and the Jedi Order was so blinded by their loyalty to the Republic that they were willing to commit genocide on his people simply because theyhad less value to the Republic then the Huk did. Imo, his situation is a prime example of everything wrong with both the Republic and the Jedi Order at the time and why I believe a Separatist movement that wasn't puppeteered by Sidious would have ultimately been a good thing.
    What he's not justified in is his own murderous tendencies but, as you guys' mentioned, that's not actually him but the alterations Dooku's made to his mental state. He was a warlord but he wasn't a psychopath that got off on killing people. His true character is that of an honorable warrior seeking vengeance for his people who were unjustly slaughtered. The kicker is that one of the things ultimately driving his hatred of the Republic is a perceived assassination attempt by them that was actually carried out by Dooku to secure his loyalty. Dooku literally reduced Grievous from an honorable warrior celebrated as a demigod by his people to a rage consumed being that could hardly be called a sentient. It's sad enough that it makes me depressed even thinking about it.
    And you know what they did in TCW? they changed this brilliant backstory to Grievous having replaced his physical body with cybernetics because he was jealous of the Jedi's fighting ability and wanted to kill them because of said jealousy. Balogne ( yes, that was intended ) can eat a chode.

    Ok, I already mentioned this while back, but I think it would be cool to have a video on the force-sensitive groups outside the Jedi and Sith, like the Mutukai, the Zeison Sha, the Jensaarai(hi Conner), and so on. This is due to the fact because
    1) I want to see this.
    2) Most fans would probably be with these groups had they had the chose.
    3) They just don't get the love they deserve:(.

    In Mace's defense, Force Sensitives on the level of Yoda's raw power are absurdly rare. The ones around that level in Legends are Palpatine, Plaegis, Bane, Krayt, Vitiate, Mace, and the Skywalker line. Out of the billions of Force Sensitives in Galactic History that's maybe...... twenty people tops.

      As for the sheer firepower Mace brought. They are walking into The Works, where Maul can walk without turning heads. Best bring a bit of firepower for that.

      Watchface I wouldn't put him at 70 considering Mace struggled with opponents that Yoda and other top tiers never did. Satele wrecked Malgus as a Jedi knight to the point he had a respirator for the rest of his life that is better than any of Mace's feats in my opinion as he never wrecked anyone gifted with the Force to that degree also Revan is pretty op though

    For Dooku talking about the Jedi that would take out Grievous he actually mentions Shaak Ti instead of Drallig in the audiobook version although I'd still say Grievous > Shaak Ti even under normal circumstances.
    I can just imagine Count Dooku listening to classical music then from down the hallway hearing a commotion and looks in to see Grievous head banging.

    While I could totally see Grievous being a death metal fan, I could also actually see him listening to maybe traditional tribal music or traditional Japanese music depending on the type. Maybe something with a lot of drums of some kind. I don’t know why but maybe the Final Agni Kai theme from AtLA.

    The biggest difference between how Palpatine exercised control and how someone like Darth Krayt did was very different, Palpatine would only resort to intimidation or fear last, whilst someone like Krayt would flout his power around and pretty much make you so terrified that your only option is to obey him. Palpatine uses coercion first and foremost to manipulate and promise to his servants what they want most with intimidation and grand displays of power coming last and only reserved for those that see through his act.

    Regarding the Golden Cuff, I think that Mace thought of it because they were in a tunnel that was leading to the Senate District. Perhaps he was thinking that in the coming days that he could cross reference the list of people Dooku spoke to in the tavern with the people that would be found at the end of the tunnel.

    Man y'all slept on Shaak Ti on Mace's team, this lady outdueled Galen Marek and would have killed him if not for his devastating force lightning. Pair her with Mace Windu and they may have a fighting chance. Ti and the padawans hold off the clones while Mace duels Sidious, once the clones are dealt with Ti assists Mace. With her montrals, she would be much more effective in a 2v1 duel due to her heightened spacial awareness. I think her Makashi would also be useful. Don't sleep on my girl, y'all! That's Sith propaganda! (Love the podcast, can listen for hours ❤)

    Dooku says that in the Revenge of the Sith novel but he doesn't mention Syfo-Dias. He more says it that it's the reason why the sith will triumph the jedi despite the jedi having Yoda and Windu who are pretty much equals to Sidious and Tyranus on top of them vastly outnumbering the sith. The sith are willing to experiment and improve and the jedi are not.

    I'm not so sure it means that. I more think it speaks to Dooku's overconfidence and his sense of self-importance. I think he can actually figure it out that Sidious will dispose of him but his ego won't allow that to sink in. He is a count and a master jedi so he is irreplaceable. Ventress might be short tempered but because of her life of constant defeats and humiliations she has a much more humble opinion of herself and so she can allow herself to see the things Dooku won't let himself.

    1:04:55 - Tbh, I disagree with that. Dooku notes specifically that he holds back certain knowledge from Grievous should the General ever turn on him indicating that he views him as a legitimate threat. I think Grievous's performance against Mace later in this very novel is solid evidence in Grievous's favor that he's closer to Dooku then you're giving him credit for.

    • @kiadisandwich1836
      @kiadisandwich1836 6 років тому

      William Henning I agree.

    • @GreyJedi91
      @GreyJedi91 6 років тому +3

      William Henning a lot of what Connor and Callan say (in my opinion) comes off like blanket statements even if they're only speaking to a specific point. I think the portrayal of the training session in both this book and the microseries is proof that Dooku is outright superior to Grievous as a lightsaber duelist.
      It's fair to say that Grievous represents a greater overall threat to a wider array of combatants than Dooku does, but Dooku is the greater technical master and the less likely to underestimate his opponents (not that he's perfect there of course). That last is my point of view anyway, based largely on Dooku's experience and the fact that he has a more accurate idea of what the various Jedi are capable of than Grievous has.
      I don't think any of us would argue that Grievous' combined attributes and ever increasing knowledge base makes him a potential threat to Dooku. That's more or less what I argued directly following what Connor said anyway, and he didn't disagree at all. So it comes down to what the point of contention is. Is Grievous close to Dooku's level as a pure duelist? Or is the question whether or not he could pose a threat to Dooku using his combined abilities. The former is the one we would argue against. The latter, is more debatable as Grievous does have a lot going for him. At least this version of the character did at any rate.

    • @robgeorge4581
      @robgeorge4581 6 років тому +1

      +William Henning I def agree. Greivous is a constantly improving kill bot. While I do agree that Grevious's refinement is not near Dooku's level, that doesn't mean his overall combative effectiveness isn't at his level. I kind of make this argument with Darth Malgus. Sure Malgus's technical skill isn't even council master level, but his experience and overall performance levels def makes him that level.
      In terms of Clone Wars Era, the only people who I think who can take Grevious in a straight duel are Dooku, Kenobi, and Yoda (bit tricky though because of Grevious's armor, combat speed is comp, and 4 blades covers his angles but his style is something Yoda is optimized to dealing with). Everyone else (majority of time) either use force abilities or get terminated.

    • @williamhenning4700
      @williamhenning4700 6 років тому

      Oh, I don't disagree with that. But I think one of the major factors contributing to his superiority is the fact that he's taught Grievous pretty much everything the General knows whereas Grievous doesn't have the same luxury in regards to knowing Dooku's capabilities.
      I think Dooku is actually MORE likely to underestimate his opponents then Grievous. A prime example of his overconfidence is his fight with Anakin and Obi Wan in the RotS novel. By contrast, Grievous actually opts to retreat from Kenobi when it's clear he's on the losing end of their duel.
      Fair enough.

    • @GreyJedi91
      @GreyJedi91 6 років тому +3

      William Henning Respectfully disagree on the arrogance topic. It's kind of spelled out in this novel that this is the point of his lesson to Grievous, and the General even reflects on this in humiliation following his fight with Windu.
      Dooku is arrogant of course, but that blind spot where Kenobi and Skywalker are concerned is probably the most serious one he had. And that is driven in part by his psychological need to be better than the Jedi, but also by the fact that Anakin and Obi-wan were pretending to suck and Dooku fell into their trap. Still though he adapted to the situation and took one of them out.
      Dooku does not respect Skywalker in particular, and this inability to accept the boy's talent leads to a unique shortsightedness that isn't present in Dooku's usual performance level.
      Meanwhile Grievous has, up to the events if this book (and of course this is most true excluding Canon material), never faced off with any of the most skilled Jedi of the period in a fair contest with all parties involved in top condition. So he had less experience with his enemies than Dooku had and hasn't had much occasion to truly feel pressured by the Jedi he's actually encountered. Hence his overconfidence despite Dooku's warnings. If one DOES factor in TCW then Grievous makes blunders like these in nearly every instance.

    I love music (discussed 7 forms of lightsaber combat in relationship to music genres), I love Grievous, and I'm a shit poster. 1:07:27, Evan challenge accepted and I have a couple of ideas. Some are great, others are atrocious.
    EDM: When you consider Grevious's body, imagine the dance moves he can pull off. + it appeals to his mechanical nature.
    Ra Ra Rasputin-ua-cam.com/video/W8dJaK0FrzM/v-deo.html
    Anything by Raphsody of Fire that has Christopher Lee in it- Dooku would recommend it to him. Here is a link to one of the songs, ua-cam.com/video/Z93SdirnzTw/v-deo.html
    General theme from Kaiser Knuckle: ua-cam.com/video/rYTk5gkBWUA/v-deo.html Badass theme of a fellow General. Electronic and represents the threat of General Grievous. Unless you use force abilities, hes a goddamn SNK boss.
    Terminator Theme: ua-cam.com/video/mpMg1upld0w/v-deo.html I always called General Grievous SW version of The Terminator.
    Raphsody of Fire-Dark Secret Saga: Of the course of the songs, it tells the story of a man who ascends to godhood. This is important because in Kaleesh culture, in death, some people become gods (which happened to Grievous).
    Any mixture of electronic and heavy metal: Very distorted, the electronic frequencies might appeal to Grevious's sense of hearing. Also represents he now likes music that you don't think is truly "organic" in a sense. Also because I have really bad taste in music.

      Wedge would have no chance lol.
      I mean he is definitely MUCH more experienced and arguably smarter in his starfighter, but dogfight is (at least imo), mostly about pure reflexes and prediction and Wedge would simply have no chance against Anakin's Force enhanced senses.

    • @LukeJamesMurtaghl
      @LukeJamesMurtaghl 6 років тому

      Jakub Yeah, I would definitely agree. In fact, I would probably go further, as I would guess that Wedge, being a dedicated star fighter pilot and special operative, would have more live combat experience than Anakin and Luke Skywalker put together. But, as you rightly said, experience just cannot account for Force-enhanced reflexes. Wedge would probably put up a good fight, but I simply can’t see him winning.

    I think what Jenssaarai was trying to say about Palpatine being human is that, though Palpatine may be a monster, he is a very human-style monster, in that he thinks and operates like an evil human. Versus, say, Plagueis, who clearly thinks and operates like an evil Muun, or Teneborous who is an evil With etc.
    Also, you might joke about the droids accidentally blowing up the Senate digs, but I almost took it for granted that they did something like this, or something similar- if the Jedi are so close that they are literally on the right track, and you have ordered an invasion to deal with this, then why not blow up the track while you are at it? It makes it THAT much harder for them to retrace their steps after al if the "steps" are under a pile of smoking rubble after all.
    (for the record, I don't really like the explanation that this was some last-ditch desperate effort by Palpatine to cover his tracks. I think it makes more sense that the Battle of Coruscant was something he was planning all along, as the elimination of Dooku would have been something he needed to carefully plot out in advance).
