Sting Performs 'Message In a Bottle', 'Englishman In New York,' and 'Fragile' | In My Room

- Earlier this week, Sting appeared with Shaggy on an installment of Rolling Stone’s In My Room IGTV series, and now, the artist and former Police frontman is back with his own video, where he called in from his home in Wiltshire, England.
“I’m lucky enough to have a recording studio here, where I can work everyday,” he says. “I’m very fortunate; I’m very grateful. I’m also grateful for our healthcare workers, who are doing an extraordinary job, risking their lives everyday on the front line. The best thing that we can do is to help them, and not to get sick, and not to add to their workload, because we are all in this together.”

'Don't Stand So Close To Me' would be more fitting considering our circumstances
TXFRecords possibly his best song other than fields of gold even though that was a cover
LMAO!
The thing about Sting is, despite his talent, he struggles to create songs as a solo artist that are as interesting as what he created in the Police. I think he needs to have the full contributions of other band members, not just studio musicians hired to do what they're told. The result is better when it's a product of collaboration. It's the same case with David Hinds and Steel Pulse.

@@mdgqTube Marcel are you the only one who got the joke?
68 years old, still plays & sings fantastic, and looks like he could score 5 on you on the pitch. Rock on Sting!
Calm yourselves and focus on the Source our Father Unconditional Love and Shine our Light. brightly into the shadows it's time!!!😃😀😊😍😘
He's a bit off-key though, but hey, he's old now. He' easily excused...
When you reach maturity and really appreciate the artistry, lyrics, etc. you become a Sting a fan. He has always been great, but I really appreciate him now. Proficient on several instruments, lyrics are poetry, speaks and sings in several languages. He is incredible!
Sting wrote songs when he was young that were only gonna sound even better the more his voice aged because they are all stories and poetry. Stay safe Sting, this world needs you to keep kicking with everyone else 🤝
Gdzie przecinek?
Dear Sting: yep, I got it. I got your message in a bottle. But...it's funny. I'm 37 years old: I grew up hearing this song on the radio countless times - have been hearing your "message" for as long as I can remember. Yet I've always taken it for granted, like rising and setting of the sun. It's just always been there. But today - to hear you sing it in May 2020, in lockdown, just you in your studio - the content of your "message" is different than all the other times. It hit me fresh and new. Marvelous composition. By the way I'm a music teacher (choir director, music theory) on Long Island, New York. Thank you for thinking of us New Yorkers, Sting. 🙏
Fragile - some of the finest poetry ever written
Can't but agree with that. This should be taught in school.
Fortress around your heart was pretty poetic too!
Lazarus Heart takes some beating.
I agree it is the most underrated song ever such tenderness is hard to find......sandly....
Yes, one of my favorite songs.
Sting, you are one of the best looking aging star I have seen in a long time. I tell the kids over here in America, "don't get sick"! It is the best advice in these days,
Hello how are you doing ?
My concert was postponed to Nov in Philadelphia and I cannot wait! i hope he stays healthy and well for it. Still a great musician! love my Sting!
Hello how are you doing?
The Police is the reason why I wanted to be a musician since I was a kid
Alex Blanco well I never heard of you. Great job...
He was not the reason for me but he sure did move it along for sure.
The police is the reason me locked up
do you have any regretta de Blanco?
Alex Blanco Good choice!
I sat across from Sting and his family in a Soho restaurant in the mid-1980s - I felt overwhelmed...didn't want to disturb their private time...so I just sat and tried not to gawk...and I didn't.... what a talented artist - bassist, vocalist, guitarist! Thank you Sting!
you forgot the most important aspect- songwriter!
His musicianship and poetry stand the test of time and to see this now is such a gift
hehe "poetry" .......can you actually read?
"be yourself... no matter what they say..."
Amen
Sting, a man who has managed to remain popular, relevant and use his talent to evolve further and not let time overtake him! Thank you Mr Sumner for all good moments :)
I'd greatly appreciate it if some Sting fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of ENGLISHMAN IN NEW YORK and WHY SHOULD I CRY FOR YOU on my YT channel in tribute to one of the all-time masters of lyricism and composition. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and stay safe.
@@willritter4076 zip it, dude
Sting's voice is as good as it's ever been. Really impressive.
Sting is an incredible artist, generous and altruistic talent. So much love he gives to us with his songs. ❤❤
MagALI 32 but his singing is reminiscent of a crap lounge act. Live, anyway.
Отличное исполнение, кантиленна!!!

He is incredible on this and I grew up with the police.
Everything Music And Guitar Shenanigans ironically they’re not all
I liked Detective

Wow that voice just takes you back to that place.
This version of Englishman in New York is perfection
He's always been great and still is. May he live forever.
Maybe he chooses eternal life...
Everyone can make a choice

'Be yourself, no matter what they say.' I love New York also, I'm a New Yorker, I live in NYC. Thank the health care workers. Thank you Sting.
I'm Australian, been to NYC a few times, I love it also, it's just magic, and the people were so funny and full of life. I took my son and wife last time. One of my favourite places, so many great memories. Hope u guys return soon. An illegal alien, an Australian in NY.. go Sting.. Peace and love from down under!
Never take your healthcare workers for granted, as your president does, unfortunately.
Thank you for this Sting?‼️ We ❤️NY2
I was an 18 years old University student when The Police rose to fame in 1979/80 during the Punk and then New Wave era. Sting sings as good now as he did 40+ years ago. Brings back some awesome memories of Manchester, UK in the early 80's. Happy days.....
This is a great performance, but let's be honest now, his voice has deteriorated substantially since his peak. It's not a criticism, it's called ageing.
Just, singling in a more manageable key ( lower) easier to hit the notes!
COVID-19 has had at least one good effect: the world is still, and we are seeing all these incredible artistic performances. All performed directly for us fans too. I love that. Stay safe all.
Safe from what?
Gabriel 22 true bro 👌🏽
Agree - so many stripped down acoustic performances. No heavy production. Man, you get to see how good they are without all the other stuff. Intimate performances where they've kind of invited us into their homes. This has been a benefit.
Gabriel 22 his musicianship is quite remarkable as is his work with the Police, and that first solo album. I can do without the cheesy Vegas vocal performances, however. His hands seem oblivious to his mouth.
Gabriel 22 his hands are incredible. His mouth is embarrassing.
I'm 53. I've been a fan of this man since Roxanne dropped on WEBN in Cincinnati. Talented, intelligent, humanist.
Troy Boyle maybe not humanist, but i do agree with everything else, great, huge talent
I’ve grown up listening to his tunes, lirics. Simply amazing. Awesomely unique.
Troy Boyle this man. Wtf? It’s Sting. Just Sting. Dopey little Sting. He writes beautiful music. He is an excellent musician. And FULLY AWARE OF EVERY LAST ONE OF HIS PRECIOUS LITTLE GIFTS and more than happy to toot his own horn...no need to pile it on.
One of my top 10 bands and songs of all time.
Sting You are superb. Congrats 🤩
Hello how are you doing ?
Hi Sting, my daughter Hannah was performing in 'The Last Ship' with you in the US before they shut down. Hope you're well and the show will go on. God bless
So pleased that he's dropped it to B, as it's the only key I can play it in.
He can’t stretch those add 9s like Andy can
@@zackamania6534 Oh, he can do that. It's more a question of his voice ageing.
Yes; me too! I can now sing it an octave down!!
ZP Pierce sus2 chords, I don’t believe the third is played
@@zackamania6534 he plays those sus2 chords in original key on *bass* when they play it live
A real solo work from home, pure as a Diamond.
Thank you Sting, we love you and thank you Rolling Stone!
Hello how are you doing ?
I'm enjoying all the performances from many artists that they do from home. At my age I'm over the crowds and chatter. These types of intimate performances show the quality of their work. And that they care.
Love Sting sooo much. He looks genuinely humble here and he's such a fantastic songwriter and singer. His music has enriched my life for some 42 years now. First saw The Police in '83 and have seen him on many solo tours. He still has it - so gifted.
Marc Lawrence total missing the humility. He told us what we should do about Covid. Like we don’t already know or something. Like we don’t eat, sleep and breath the stupid “alone together” slogan.
United we stand divided we fall
Can't believe my eyes can't believe my ears what a marvelous singer musician artist.
Sting is like a glass of fine wine that is to be sipped and enjoyed.
Thanks Sting...….these songs were so relevant to what we are going through right now. For a few minutes, I felt like we were all one and I was not as alone...….
I had the same feeling, actually...!
Wonderful artist of our times may he stay long, dont leave us like Prince, Whitney, MJ....
Sting must never die!
This guy is a musical genius - Thankyou Sting - Regatta de Blanc changed my life ✌️

Sting's voice is one of the best voices mankind's ever had!! Congrats to Sting and to Rolling Stone for this awesome Live at Home!!
We are spirits in a material world !
That song is the realest in this very moment. Much love Sting to you and your family!
Yeah, Sting still has it. When this virus is behind us, I'd love to see the Police do a tour. They've all done well as solo artists but they had a great chemistry together.
Hey, just a suggestion from a fan...
They might have had good musical chemistry together....
Amazing musical chemistry (fav band back in my high school days in the 80s) ...but pretty much despised each other...watch the Elvis Costello interview with them...it’s still very uncomfortable to see them sit together. 🤣
The 'virus ' won't be behind us,
The change already came..
@Led Zeppelin I was there in Birmingham UK, absolutely stunning performance. 👍🙏
Polished ,Kool, Kat, Stay Strong Englishman.... 🍷🍷👤♦️
He's still got it. Can't fake quality.
Sting you're still Rocking and Thank ya !!! Police Forever For The People That Got Love For What You All Have Done And Will Do. 🤗🤗🤗
He displayed more talent in just 10mn and 36 seconds than other artists during their entire life.
I totally agree!
So, what is it with some people and these types of perspective/comments? They tend to show up pretty much everywhere, so it's not the actual art, but the 'beholder' at question. What is this weird cultural shit? lol an offshoot of 'cancel culture'?
He was good but it depends on what other artists you're comparing him to..there are a few legends out there and class acts and sorry to say as much as I liked the police and sting hes not the best.
Sting is like a fine wine - aging with panache, mellowing and yet getting better and better.
HaddonTwpHS oh God, he’ll eat this comment up for sure...Jesus...
Totally agree...I'll drink to that!
A total legend thanks from the CFS in Wales 👍
👌👏🎉
thanks Sting. Saw you guys in Tampa awhile back. Thank you for still being there for us.
Three beautiful songs, just a little take of such a prodigal songwriter, singer and musician! Thanks for sharing it!

Message in a bottle, AMAZING!
This is a happy song it makes me smile when i'm driving in my car. You really have a marvelous gift in making peoplethank you so much
Looking and sounding fabulous at 68! Fragile is perfect for these times.
Stay safe all.
Holy Crap! I didn’t think about it. Is he really 68?! Forget Keith Richards, let me know what that’s all about.
Clearly tantric 'activities' work wonders for maintaining an appearance that belies your age!
Lord have mercy. I have loved this man’s voice and style for what it seems a very long time. ✌🏼💕
Yes great songs wouldn’t die ..
How are you doing?
Excellent in all the aspects of his genius……this is his message in a bottle….👏🎼👍…
Legendary Sting! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Absolutely beautiful how the voice timbers with age. He still has the power but delivers it now with experience. Beautiful!
Nerd4Life power? Huh? His voice was unique and distinctive for this reason. But it wasn’t strong. This man does not have a powerful voice. He is an amazing musician and writer. But the voice - no power at all.
Has Good check him at 6:17, seeing this part is enough to be sure that this man HAS a strong voice at the age of 68
Oh, to only age as gracefully as Mr. Sumner has.. God bless..
He definitely takes care of himself.
Mr. Sumner??? Who is that???
Sting is such an amazing musician. I don't know what brought me to search for his lockdown sessions again in Dec 2023. Covid was such a terrible time for all of us but things like listening to our favourite artists really helped us through those difficult times.
I will forever have a crush on sting😻😻😻
Brilliant. His music helped me mourne my wife's passing in01.
Desert rose, a thousand years....amazing

Hello how are you doing ?
Hi Sting, your music is a bliss, my MOM has passed away from shear loneliness, not Corona, she could not go anywhere, I'd be there getting her the necessities but could not go inside simply because I didn't want to infect her, if I had it, she just simply withered away, became very unfit, neglected her health & on the 11th of Dec she traversed into UNIVERSE (RIP), her lonely heart just stopped & could not be restarted for the life of it. I continuously played "How Fragile We Are" & our tears & sorrows were so much easier to deal with. You're such an inspiration. I've always been listening to your music & you are simply a soul healer......., its been so good to have you on this planet.......
Sting's ability to pull a song out like Message perform it during these unparalleled times and have it be relevant is a measure of the man's songwriting. It's enduring and everlasting.
Sting is awesome. Been following his music since the POLICE got big in 1980 ! Miami Concert 1983 o present, seen him on stage over a dozen times. One of the greats ! Thank you sir. Cheers from USA.
He looks and sounds fantastic!
Fingers crossed for London in September. In the meantime, thanks for sharing this beautiful performance! 🙏
This is brilliant! Sting will never lose his talent! Next I would love to see a Police quarantine gig... if we’re lucky!!!!!
such a great intro speech, and then, that fabulous and unique tone in his voice....he is a singular event in the world of music....
Sting is one of the few real rock poets of our times. Spirited, rebel and peaceful. He and his music, texts, playing and singing are so beautiful at every age. Such authenticity is rare and precious. Thank you so much Sting for your energy :-) I love how he says Nooo York in the song ahah :-)
I love du Sting!! I'm Paula s from New Yorkers? You, togeather with Michael Jackson, are one of the greatest Activist in the World and the Music World. These days this great big city laughs but, today ....it cries!! Thanx for letting us Sing while We cry and hope ....it will recover..
Often overlooked as one of the best rock vocalist.....this guy still has the chops he had at a much earlier age. Even as a guy, I'll say it.....this guys voice is sexy!
Sadly most of the big rock stars are overlooked nowadays, Sting was the king in the 80's with great music, movies, colaborations and even modeling, Always one of my favorites.
Peace and stay safe.
stop objectifying
How do you mean overlooked, he‘s one of the most famous musicians in the world
I'm Sting's age so why can't I sing like that?? Super.
Myelin.
great singer ,great man ,loved by all of us
Uncopiable! Lots of love from Poland ❤️
i can't ask more, his heavy voice at his current age make my mood up
Sounds incredible, I have never seen Message in a Bottle played the way that Sting is playing it in the video with these chord changes. I always played it the way Andy did on guitar, but I like this version more.
Exactly! Do you know any tabs for this version? Thanks
@@theloniouscoltrane3778 Is it drop D tuning?
Yannis Fyssas that’s my guess. I’m not musically trained but I’ve seen sting play some of his songs that have add9 chords so differently from how I learned them via tab
@@YannisFyssas No It's in B minor, the last chord uses the open E string in the root
He's in standard tuning but playing a whole tone below the original key of C#m. The chord shapes he's using in the verse are:
x24x2x
3x02xx
x024xx
024xxx
Few singers have that kind of breath control to hold those notes THAT long. Fragile is a solo Sting song and Fields of Bali was on also a great song. His vocal style has changed but his talent is endless. Thanks Sting 😘
Thank you, Sting! ☺️❤️
Sting forever! I love both his solo songs and the songs of The Police! I live in Saint-Petersburg, and when I went to Moscow I feels like I'm an Englishman in New York. ;))))) Greetings from Russia!
I love Sting 😢 why aren't there more artists like this man nowadays 😕 shooot !
wow .....so clever
Cause nobody buys music anymore, they're dead of starvation...
There are TONS of amazing artists out there crating new stuff worth listening to. Spend a night going down the rabbit hole online and you can find crazy talent. (Anderson Paak, Useful Jenkins, Amos Lee, its early, my music brain is not on, and my genres are vast....but Music has not died with the internet)
All I can say is WOW!!!!
Thank you for the music Mr. Sumner . We love you so much
My eyes were tearing as I was listening to these songs sung during the confinement...We were supposed to go to the concert in Nimes but unfortunately it got cancelled. Bravo Sting, still one of my favorite musicians in the world.
He sounds great! It reminds me of the beach, summer of 83’
Talent is something that has no other word to define this kind of moments !
