Sorry Dave but I would have to agree with everyone else. You never let him answer a question, I would have liked to know what plug ins he recommend for small studios or beginners.
With all due respect, I would have NO complaints about this video if it wasn't for the title! It didn't offer any tips at all. But having said that, I still enjoyed watching it. If it had been titled "A short chat with Gene Grimaldi" then nobody would be bitching, lol.
I was intrigued by the concept of the different ways of hearing of mixig and mastering engineers. I would have liked to hear a more developed discussion on that idea.
everything was so vague and overly general. I think if you are interviewing a top mastering engineer, we could have learned so much more than we did from these questions.
The take home is to get connected with someone you respect/like their mixes and to continue being active learners. No plugins make or break a mix and neither do any "secret" techniques.
Dave I love the show, but I know nothing new about how to improve my mixes for mastering. Whether mastering engineers use plugins, get used to a pair of speakers, or how far back the 2 of you go teach me nothing I can implement. Please revisit this topic with more beef, or retitle this 2 part series to "Just Hang'n out with a Buddy of Mine That Has Mastered a Lot of Great Records".
Dave, with all due respect, when you ask a question give your guest enough time to develop an idea and speak it before you ask another or interrupt. Respectfully, Aaron.
Part 1 and 2 sum total of information revealed = this particular Mastering engineer likes it if people mix in 24 bit. Then + 19 some odd minutes of shaft stroking.
still no talk about bouncing/mixing down techniques.........none of these other things matter at all if you are bouncing to wav/mp3 in pro tools lol. no talk about what specific mastering software he uses, no talk about how he prefers to receive mixes or how he finalizes his mp3. nothing about dither, nothing about using tape. it is unfair to ignore these and pretend it's a reveal all teaching experience. if u don't want to tell us the whole truth then don't tell us anything
that's so sad. I think Dave did that on purpose. I honestly don't need or care about the specific plugins....but MOST people do. That's just terrible. VERY uninformative video. But I'm glad they're great friends.... Yeah, I like Dave and the show....most of the time. But come on guys.

Gene's expression at times is priceless. At :30, he looks like he's watching a horror movie. Thanks for both of your efforts.
looks like the pros dont like to share too much their secrets lol

thanks for telling me a 2nd time, that you both are absolutely amazing.
Thank You Mr.Dave Pensado and Mr. Gene Grimaldi 🙌🙌 Really Helpful Video🔥🔥.
DAVE can you do an Into the Lair on Proper Gain Staging while mixing? Thanks

Hey dave can we do more of these but let the mastering engineer do all the talking. I'm sure they know what information they need to share
Man I died on the inside when he didn't let him mention the plug-ins he uses 😩

Gosh, I wish the interviewer would let the guy talk. i.e. 5:16. I'd LOVE to have known what "types" of plugins he uses!
Car checks! Good to know I'm not the only one.
I swear I saw this months ago. Maybe during one of the shows??
Isn't Dave at Echobar now?
"I don't want this show about me" ...how about letting the guest speak without interrupting.
A "conversation" between 2 masters. 🙏

Damn yall talkin' poke and stab and shit, its some real prison shit, this engineering game.

Wow people there were actually some important things that were said ! Stop taking things for granted.

I never put ANYTHING on my stereo out master bus :\ I don't even touch the fader!
