I have had really good luck with Taurus And ruger firearms. I think ruger is the most underrated firearm manufacturer in the US
I like Ruger, my concern is that they don't market their handguns (auto pistols specifically) very well. They definitely have the history and tradition to compete, but they need to get "serious" about self defense and competition handguns.
@@johnlacasse8893 ruger is low key one of the best gun makers ever. Semi auto pistols, revolvers, rifles, lever guns, they make a great product for a fair price
If the prices were anywhere near this currently I would be more inclined to agree. But I'm commenting 4 months after this video we were able to purchase the Ruger at a major sporting goods retailer for $319.99 brand new.
Your comment of "better built guns" is way off. I love the Micro 9mm's. Have the Sig, Hellcat, Ruger, and others. Shoot weekly. The Taurus is built extremely well. Very few Parts, a fantastic steel chassis. All quality parts which I wish I could compare on this post, but unfortunately can't do here. And the GX4 is Ultra Reliable. I have tested this gun intensify. I did not buy this GX4 for low cost. I would have paid as much or more than I paid for my other micro 9mm's. The lower cost was just a bonus. Also bought the Toro slide for only $149.00 which was a great addition as well. .
I’ve had the GX4 for about 9 months now and I love it. No issues at all and out of all my other compact/sub’s including Sig, HK, Ruger, S&W, Glock, and kimber, the GX4 just feels the best to me in my hand. It’s very accurate for me and I trust it 100%. And it always cracks me up when people slam it for not being optics ready or having a rail. WTH do you need a red dot or anything else for on a small CCW? For a home self-defense gun maybe, but this is a point and shoot gun.
people want optic because it is cool i think. lol. I think it is stupid. "don't reinvent the wheel"
Within 100 rounds, the front sight flew off my GX4. Two unanswered service request, took it back to Academy for them to send back.
@genesmiley3727 Same thing happened to me too. I upgraded to night sights afterward. It is a minor issues.
@@troytruong8246 It is a minor issue, and I had planned to upgrade the front site to an Ameriglo. Just wish I had some response to my service request. Also, my GX4 shot way to the left (for about 100 rounds) I sent a note with the pistol that the slide may have been mis-drilled and may also need to be replaced. Hopefully Academy had better luck getting a response to a service request.
because all guns should come with the option. It's 2023, it should be standard.
I was close to getting a GX4 but after watching multiple reviews of both, I went with the Ruger Max 9 Pro, I am so glad I did. it shoots great, and its so easy to conceal. It's my new EDC, and I own lots of Glocks and others. Added the Ruger Ready dot and wow. i can't miss. Oh, and the GX4 has a recall, so if you buy one, make sure you check that it has been addressed.
Both are great choices. I went with Taurus
Just purchased the ruger today paid 300 out the door after rounding up for aome veterans foundation. Cant beat that price
First the noise with the Ruger, when it’s loaded it’s not noisy..second if you would have cleaned and oiled the Taurus it would have worked better..
that’s how my max 9 is but tbh i like it better than my ec9s
My Max 9 has a rattle, but it's not the slide. It's the take down pin floating back and forth. Also, most vids are saying you have to punch out the pin for take down, but actually if you turn the gun on it's side, the pin falls right out.
The Ruger is better…the front sight is better and optics’s ready, I like the Taurus too, it’s just not as good..
Ok.. i bought the Taurus, then got the Max 9….
Ruger is better. The slide rattle isnt there when loaded and one in the pipe plus holstered so im not sure how you even. Ame to conclusion that it would rattle while being carried.
When I bought my Max 9 the P365 and hellcat were a lot more expensive, and the Taurus gx4 didn't have an optic ready version yet. I bought the Max 9 replaced the trigger and got a holosun 407k and was still cheaper than the sigs and hellcats that my friends had. Poor finish on the slide, but after I called Ruger, they sent me a new slide. No problem. It doesn't click or make a bunch of noise when it's loaded.
Was the slide they sent have a different finish??
@@wiillthebarbertv9415 it was the same finish as from the factory. The original finish had worn off in places, or more likely, hadn't been done properly.
I have the GX4 for a while now and have over 500 rounds through it. It's a good solid Micro Nine. I also have the Ruger LCP 2 380 Which is my favorite Carry. So I was really interested in the Max 9. When I actually went to the store to get one..........Well, I did like the sights and the feel of the gun. Ruger's just fit my hand right. I didn't like the trigger compared to the GX4 and where it may not effect shooting, the rattling of the slide just didn't make me feel comfortable. There was a Hellcat on sale for $500 right next to it... Now I'm still not sure which gun I like better the Taurus or the Hellcat........ Maybe I just need to make sure there is a responsible adult with me next time I go into a gun store (I'm 60+, but really should not be allowed near places that sell Guitars, pistols or tools)
I love my Taurus GX4 and it has been accurate, reliable and eats everything I feed it. I am, however, thinking about getting a Max-9 and looking forward to getting them both to the range 😁. Thanks for the comparison and keep shooting 👍.
Ruger was on sale last week for $279. I’ll go with the Ruger.
On sale this month at Fin Feather Fur stores in Ohio for $249.99 (manual safety version). Couldn’t pass it up at that price. Never a single malfunction on any of my Rugers including Lc9, Lc9s, Lcp II, (2) Ruger MK II , and GP100 357mag and Super Redhawk 44mag revolvers. I have many other handguns including Berettas, Canik, SAR, Colt, Browning, Springfields, and a Sig P365xl which I paid nearly 2-1/2 times more than the Max9. I had to send that 365 back to the factory for service the first week I had it (they replaced the recoil spring and the messed up rear tritium rear sight). Don’t know if they tightened the frame to slide fit, but my Max9 does not rattle any more than my Sig with or without a magazine inserted. I’ll probably buy another one to keep in my vehicle at that price.
I own both. I have always been a Ruger guy. I have owned several and never had a issue with any. That being said, I would take the GX4 over the Ruger. It has become my every day gun
If I had to choose between the two, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I'll take the Taurus. It just looks better to me. But I don't have to choose between the two, because I carry the Hellcat.😉
Either one has more than enough ugly.
Hellcat is a super ugly gun imo
I appreciate your thoroughness and your honesty. I wonder what you thought of the slide release on either gun? I own several Ruger autos including an SRR9C, an LC9s, and Ruger American .45 auto. The SR9C release is hideous. I could do push ups on the slide button yet it's easy enough when you use two hands and jack the slide. The LC9s is better but not good. The .45 is not bad but still isn't great. I have not fired these pistols a lot . Hopefully shooting more will help but I'm kind of disappointed. Other than that they all shot well. I handled the GX-4 Toro at the store and you were right on every thing. I would appreciate if you would test and mention the slide release when you evaluate autos because I'm 73 and my hands are not as strong as they used to be. Once again, thanks. You did a very good job.
Great video! Thank you for making it.
I just purchased my Taurus gx4 toro version for $309. I forgot also has a $50 dollar rebate!
Buy have you got that rebate. I bought a few g2c because if good holiday pricing and a gx4 and havent seen a penny on those rebates. I'll suggest a scam.
@@semlohde1the rebate is on the Taurus website, so if it’s a scam it’s not good for their business. I’m waiting on my $50 rebate as well.
@2amdlives I called the Taurus rebate number and got the same lady I spoke to last month. She told me she saw my claims online and they were verifying my mail in with register receipt and the cut off code from the box. I expressed I sure didn't like cutting up the box- I have boxes from 1988 in perfect shape and these are ruined for $25. She told me it would be at least 8 weeks per gun. So I wait.
I'm currently on the fence for a standard GX4 for $256 shipped.
@@E52O4 I took me 4 months to get mine... Check your mail carefully... Mine came out of Minnesota and looked like junk mail.
Taurus has upped their game with the GX4. And the trigger is very crisp and is the best they have put into any platform. For a micro pistol i would not even buy an optics ready version. I own three rugers and like what they do as well. The Taurus is my EDC so if use in a defensive situation it will easily be replaced. I bet the FFL took your weapon apart wrong.
I love the gx4 but I just wish they shipped it with a front night sight I have changed mine out but it should ship that way
Really wanted to like the Ruger, just didn’t feel well-made, didn’t present well, but it was VERY light weigh, if they can get it down into the low 300s there might be something to consider
I believe the prices kind of dropped on both, I’ve seen them online for about $250 for Taurus and $350 for the Ruger …
I just put the max 9 flat dark earth pro model in layaway it was 350 the all black version was a few dollars cheaper but I wanted the fde frame and cerkoted fde slide
Just got the Ruger for 359.00
@@fredhenk6098 lol its 440 by me
I picked up a Ruger Max9 for $270 at PSA.
Im going to disagree about the ruger making noise when carrying it. If you have a good holster, it makes no noise when moving around. It's a good little gun. I have a few guns in the segment and I like the ruger.
I have the max 9 and a black hawk finger release holster and it's silent
I liked this review. I had the Taurus and sold it because it's a Taurus and with the new recall just out glad I did. I just purchased the Ruger at Rural King for $349. If it was more I would have gotten the Hellcat. Have not shot the Ruger yet only had it 2 days. Ruger's take down sucks but I'm willing to give it a try.
Too Bad not all Taurus pistols were involved ...I own Both Taurus is definitely the Better EDC!
@@leonardpiskacsr.7111 that's why we have choices. That's yours👍
Would like to hear Ruger’s response to the rattling slides on the LCP II LR, and the LCP II Max. All of mine could belong in a percussion band.
Grabbed a max 9 pro from Psa. $269.99. They have good flash sales. Max 9 is pretty much same footprint as my lc9s pro. Max 9 grip is very slightly wider. I have p365xl, xds, glocks. I tend to carry lc9s the most. Thinner and it fits my hand well. Max 9 shoots accurate also. Only ran 3 mags so far. ball and hollows. All fed fine. Slide rattle is a little annoying tho. Rattle goes away with full mag inserted. Max 9 fits in my Springfield xds mod 2 leather holster. 👍🏻👍🏻
Everything about the Max 9 just looks cheap. (except the price) You can pick up a Shield Plus for 50 bucks less and have 10 times the gun. The GX4 might not have the best finish on it, but everything about it is solid. It doesn't feel like a Taurus. Even though the G2 & G3 series guns are also pretty solid, they don't have that "quality" feel to them. The GX4 feels like a $500-$650 gun in the hand. I think they are all going to be in trouble when the new Mete MC9 comes out.
Speaking of take down, you failed to mention that the take down pin gets completely removed from the Max 9. Lose the pin and the gun is a paper weight. With the GX4, did you clean it before you reassembled it? Amazing what a little cleaning and lube will do for any handgun. Every new gun should be field stripped, cleaned and lubed before ever being taken to the range.
I agree, Ruger is my favorite revolver manufacturer but their polymers are a little less than be desired. And the takedown pin design needs to go back to the drawing board.
The GX4 front sight will wiggle loose after a bit. Loctite fixes it but still something to watch
happened to mine. Upgraded to night sights either way. It is a good decent gun. Got it at a gunshow for $250 cash. Didn't need to buy it since I already got p365. Couldn't pass up the great price!
While recently attending a police academy 3 people had their Glock fronts fall off and disappear.
The max 9 dropped in price fast! I had one but sold it soon as I got it, needed the cash, now planning to get another one... actually bought a Ec9s yesterday so yeah I definitely need another Max 9....I like full size guns(3.8-4") but looking to get a few carry guns... there much easier to carry...
I've owned a few LCP's and wasn't impressed with the blueing on their slides. I own a few newer Taurus and their slide finish is terrible.
DAMN bro i love this channel! 💪👍💯
When the magazine is inserted the slide won’t wable
See that casing from the Taurus bit you in the beginning 😂. But I’m not a fan of either brands (S&W) guy but if I had to choose I’d take the Ruger.
I bought my ruger max 9 for a steal last year for $365, which is why I'm keeping it. If I could go back in time though, I would've bought either the Springfield Hellcat or the Taurus
You can currently get the GX4 for $240
@@SunsJoel thanks for the info. I'll likely get the GX4 Toro so I can add an optic later
I love my taurus gx4
Optic cut seals the deal. Don't need much other info than that. PSA is selling the Ruger Max 9 on 08_24_23 for $259.
Ruguer shoots better good comparison if You change they triger Galloway precisión Bad ass gun
And then you have even more $$$ into it. 😆
$39.50 for that trigger and it is way smoother than factory
Im still trying to decide between Taurus and canik
Canik!
Canik,yes
The Ruger price has dropped. I got one with a CT reflex sight for 378
I personally own shield plus is .30 super carry, shadow systems cr920, Taurus GX4 (only non optic ready) Hellcat and Hellcat pro, plus the max-9. After purchasing the max 9, the trigger was horrible and the recoil spring felt a bit too light. Fired a few rounds and hated it. Fast forward a few months, I decided to order a trigger, recoil spring and Holosun 407k (which all of my micros have except GX4) and with these specific upgrades it has taken the top spot in my carry collection. Never had a malfunction and have close to 600 rounds thru her now. Only dislike would have to be slide and barrel finish.
Me too!
TAURUS for me for EDC...Cerokoted!😊❤
I recently inspected a rental Ruger Max-9 at the range and while I really, *really* wanted to like it (I'm a huge fan of the Security-9), I found that the slide was too difficult to rack. Is the gun difficult in that respect generally due to its size, or does it require a break-in period? The Sig P365 9mm rental was super easy for me, as were its 380 version and the S&W CSX (although the same couldn't be said for the Shield Plus).
From what I've read, the Max 9 heavy recoil spring is designed for absorbing the energy generated from the 9mm in that light slide recoiling back. Security 9 is larger frame and has a heavier slide compared to the Max 9, allowing the Security 9 to manage the energy from 9mm better. I think the Security 9 is a perfect edc option. Honestly, it's better than the Max 9 for longer range shooting and has less felt recoil due to the heavier slide weight. Although, the Security 9 is harder to conceal with the larger grip and barrel length than the Max 9.
Spend a few more dollars and buy a Sig P365. Real eay and fairly cheap to upgrade grip modules. Sig has a lifetime warranty on thir guns & mags. Save up and buy quality. Unless you are just a plinker having fun. Self defense, no price it worth a price cut.
I don't know why that does that but mine does it too. And if you take the slide off and look at the firing system and pull the trigger with the slide off it looks kind of loose. I have noticed it sometimes if I got it the safety on and sometimes for some reason I can pull the trigger and click it and sometimes I got a really pull together to do it. I don't know whether that's a malfunction or whether it's just made that way and it does that. What does yours do?
As a rule, avoid pulling the trigger while it is apart. On hammer guns, it can actually damage the frame. On striker guns, it can get the sear components in a position that they could not get into if the slide was on and make it hard to reassemble. On most guns, the FCG components are intended to work with the slide installed and may appear loose or move around when it is off.
Got my Mac 9 6mon ago for $350 with 2 mag
Found the ruger for $395 at a local ffl
I have them both/ the ruger is my favorite. My Taurus g3x is better than these 2.
I need an honest opinion ! I can't decide between one of these 2 firearms ! I'm looking for another carry gun I already carry an M&P 2.0 compact 3.6 and I'm looking for a smaller carry gun to carry at work mainly in my pocket I currently carry appendix but the type of work I do It will more comfortable to carry something in my pocket with a good holster so I'm trying to decide between these 2 ! Any help will be appreciated.
Sig P238 or P938
For a carry gun quality for under $450ish I'd go Canik all day
I don't know if you're going to get what I just wrote but I would appreciate if you do see it and you send me back a yes or no or if it does
100%
👍
Booth shoot
I like them both. I've got the gx4xl and a ruger lc9s pro, can't beat ruger and the new Taurus, they have come a long way.
Great video! Thank you for making it.
