Nice job on the rear end. It looks mint! I think you did the right job with the bearings. At least you have them in case. I, too, am of the throw crap around sometimes to cool down anger issues. My aim is not great so I limit what I throw. That is a nice looking 35 Chevy. I am looking forward to seeing the next episode in the saga.
Just as an FYI...if you clean the part up, its rebuilt. If you clean and then rattle can it, it's remanufactured. This goes for just about everything. Rear ends, starters, alternators etc.
I started welding in 1978 so THANK YOU for the fine editing job. I'm not a painter but I'm sure I didnt need to see that in real time as well, more great editing. Well done as always. Cheers from Edmonton

The 216 I worked on a 1947 passenger car, the side cover was taller. The cover went all the way to the valve cover. Spark plugs seated the side cover to the cylinder head. It had the con rod dippers like yours with the troughs. Alignment VERY important ! ! !
Great entertainment altogether. Unfortunately , the bearing clearances on that old stove bolt were a little out of spec and taking the time to help your neighbour out on the square body panel repair is honourable. The torque tube repair looked like quite a chore but luckily Home Hardware has torque tube repair in a can.
I started my auto body career in a GMC dealership in 1974 yes 50 years ago. These trucks were brand new then and quality was zero in my book. They rusted to dust in a couple years and nothing really fit or lined up correctly. If you got the fancy model you could watch the trim fall off that was held by little squares of tape
Hi Kyle. Glad old knocky is going to a good home. I imagine it can be rebuilt but don't know exactly how that works with babbitt bushings. I've seen it done on machinery and they basically pour liquid babbitt into the gap where it needs to go and let it cool. There's probably some trimming after that but I'm not sure. Painting the diff for the '35 added at least 10 horsepower!
The current exchange rate is .74 U.S. dollars = 1 Canadian dollar so the rattle can at $7 Canadian is $5.11 U.S. That is a great deal. Good fortune has shown on you. 🙂
We're kinda lucky here in missouri, still have lots of square body parts around. They sold those things to everyone here I think. I swapped out a roof back in the late 90s on a square body. was a military rollover. no rust.
Another good presentation of your skill-set. Thanks Kyle…You are a Master in your field. The cats look happy…But why not? You tame felines too…Or the other way around. Peace and God bless you.
My mom says I can't watch any more violent videos because they exasperate my own destructive tendencies. I threw a distributor at her car and now I'm grounded. Thanks.
$9 CDN for a rattle can? That is cheap! Prices have got so bad here in Quebec (over $20CDN at Crappy Tire) that I've resorted to going down into Vermont (a 20 minute drive) and buying my paint at a NAPA store for what's a decent price, even with the exchange!
Maybe the knock is caused because this is the rare 235 diesel, only made for a short time. No problem; just drive it! Yeah, those paint bombs are $2.48 here at the store that only sells walls.
Hi Kyle, Bah... it's not bearing/rod knock with that engine. The anti-knock silver flake got loose! Kids these days don't know nuthin'. I've been practicing with my El Cheapo TIG setup. Yeah POR 15 is total snake oil. I have used Duplicolors engine enamel to paint wheels and other suspension parts in the past and it seems to hold up well.
I was actually glad to see that you didn't just push the chicken truck out in the weeds, and I would have totally used that flat fender top as a work bench myself. Good on you Kyle!
I usually do not take any advices to leave an unnecessary comment, but I like the shit you entertain both of us with. So I think the cause of the problem will be probably at the big end of a con rod if not at all of them :)
Loved seeing you do patch work on the squarebody. I spent months welding my 1976 back together. I was curious how your work would turn out with thinner gage material. Very impressive. What kind of sanding disc are you using on the end of that Ryobi?
The dippers not only splash the oil around, they also feed the rod journal with oil. These rod end caps can be tightened by removing shims, but I think, by the looks of it, at least one of the rods has lost babbit material.
Classic babbit rod knock. Unless you were doing some kind of 100% original early Chev., resto, no reason to rebuild that, when full pressure 235s are still (fairly) available.
