Sectioning The Hood on a Classic Truck. Amazing Transformation! 1953 Chevy Radical Custom Bodywork
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- This is part 1 of sectioning the hood on our tasty Chicken Truck, the radical kustom 1953 Chevy pickup. Thanks to old collision damage and bad decisions, the project becomes much more complicated than anticipated and I end up having to splice two hoods together. Also, several critical mistakes are made.

I came for the body work and got treated with some beautiful harpsichord music to boot. It just doesn’t get better. Nicely done Kyle.
Geese!
Dat ain’t no dang harpsichord!
...the harpsichord is so 1723.
Kyle said it was a Hmong music.
I grew up waiting for those car magazines every month! Your work approach is most exemplary and your commentary is outstanding.
Really well done, Kyle.
Thank you! I miss car magazines
There is so much to love about this channel! Harpsichord music, metal work, a borderline autistic host, cats - what else could you want?
yeah the kitty is pretty awesome.
Kyle don’t let the armchair professionals throw you off . The reason people watch your channel is because they know you’re good at what you do even if it’s something new to you . Keep up the good work and thank you !!!!
I'll second that thank you
Why didn't ya just ... ya shoulda just done this ... do it that way ... cut here ... weld there ... tickle a bear ... great video Kyle ... always entertaining ...
Thanks Joe!
Splice or Splicing is a registered trademark of CWMD I think you will be demonitized for this infraction!!!!! You will be hearing from the agents! Keep up the good work!!!!
I have my legal team on stand by
You always pick great music for your videos. Thanks for all your hard work!
Looking forward to seeing how your vision comes together. ❤✌️👍😎 cheers
This is absolutely the best hood sectioning video I have ever seen! (disclaimer: it's the only hood sectioning video I have ever seen)
I can't believe you messed up that hood so bad, thanks for telling me that you did, because honestly I wouldn't have known. Another great video Kyle, thanks for sharing your progress with us 👍.
shoulda just made a new hood with chicken wire, straw and bondo
You know Kyle this is your vision not anyone else's for the Chicken. So i say if someone doesn't like the way you do things tell them to piss off they aren't doing it. I grew up on Hot rod Magazine and rod and Custom always had great ideas. Thanks for an entertaining video almost as entertaining as your cats.
That Newfoundlands Cut and Butt shoutout was Epic 👍👍👍
To all those shoulda, coulda, woulda folks, Kyle just did it. So pound on that. You go harpsichord man!
Bam. I know I’ll love it. Been waiting for this
Hood is looking great Kyle. Good Idea to harvest the hood peak from the Pontiwreck hood. I'm guessing that the air saw would leave a tighter gap for welding. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
Yup the air saw does leave a tighter gap and no grinding slag on the backside!
Yes. Finally some mung scraping content!
Harpsichord at Carters hair styling! Top notch indeed!
Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda.
Attack, React, Condemn.
Such are the pastimes of the uninspired herd.
Visions are for the longhaul. Thanks for sharing the whole journey Kyle.👍🐔✔️
Thanks for another great session, plus loved the music.
Great work Kyle, as always. And primo de-mungification footage. ✌
Your comment is Mungnificent.
This is great as usual Kyle, you sir are something else but I like it.
You might get a lot of people telling you how to do this metal work better but they cannot claim to scrape mung any better!
I’ve not seen that kind of proficiency since my grandma was de-munging undercoat from the 1979 el conquistador she used to tow her motor home! 😝
I was only just saying yesterday, UA-cam needs more harpsichord.
I got a fever and the only cure is more harpsichord...
I was restoring an old church entrance from the 1820s which had some very ornate moulding and mortis and tenon work throughout. The job required full disassembly of the parts with fabrication and replacement of the rotted pieces, etc. Upon fully stripping the centuries of paint, we could see where the original craftsmen had made mistakes here or there. This was. an epiphany for me as a woodworker, because it showed me that everyone makes mistakes, but the masters are able to parry and make adjustments to the piece so no one would ever realize the shortcomings. The masters were prone to mismeasurements or making a wrong cut, but they knew how to cover it up like a magician. As my father said to us, "people that don't make mistakes don't work." ... He also said the reason I had blisters on my hands was because I don't work, too.... yeah. He was tough!
Great story! Thanks for sharing!
There's something wrong with your torch. It gets almost finished and then starts putting lead back on. Your regulator must be installed backwards
Thanks for pointing that out. I'll be bringing it back to the store for a refund
I think you do a hell of a job on anything you do
I think that was the most efficient way to cluck up a hood chop, and looks killer. Cluck, Cluck. Be well.
Very revealing stuff - its not about the amount of fancy tools but its about understanding metal and how to handle it
Kyle speeds up the tricky parts of the repairs because he is afraid we might learn something but I watch all his videos at .25 speed so he cant slip anything by me. This one took me four hours to watch but I know that he knows I'm on to him
i feel it is less chicken and more a truch each episode
did you at least wait for it to lay some eggs?
You should of found the grill first. Dont listen to me i just had to add that in. Actually im just here to enjoy watching metal sculpting. You are one of the best at metal work that ive seen.
Just keep working it Kyle, I enjoy watching your work, process and imagination! love it…
Delvon Lamar Organ Trio ???
Greetings from Germany
This approach is so cool. I wonder if the temporary welds could be replaced with neodymium magnets so they would 'auto-adjust'.
Forty six minutes and nine seconds flew by while I was watching. That is not a complaint. It is a compliment. Now I have to wait for the next video to see your vision move forward. Absolutely enjoy watching what you do.
Civilization sucks. Its way to civilized.
I bet the Flower Duet from Lakmé, is reeeeealy good weld and grind music,, 😎
Thank you kindly Maestro Kyle,, 🌟🙏🌟
Lakme's Flower Duet is a violent travesty against all things civilized.
Again and again, Kyle... love follow you along on this build. Nice job👍
Thanks!
I was just looking for some premium mung scraping videos and came across this. Was not disappointed, 10/10 mung scraping right there.
That vacuum got what it deserved. Also loving the chicken truck Great work Kyle.
Vacuums are one thing that must be destroyed, when the don’t suck.
Vacuums: 2
Chicken Trucks: 0
Check with your local grocery store, see if they can get dry ice. Used to be the source at one time.
Brent’s chevy project is very intense.
I enjoy watching his channel too. I live an hour away, had the privelege of meeting Pablo and Buddy. And Esther of course. Brent is a nice guy.
I have a 49 and a 52 chevy, i like watching what everybody’s doing to modify their trucks. Lots of great ideas.
I watched on the tv. Back to the phone for comment. That’s very challenging to do! I’m excited for the future episodes. Go Kyle! Awesome!
Good day. For some reason, I have always done the face of a vehicle last. Smitty
The harpsichord and piano gave your metal work a classy and lighted hearted touch! It makes the chicken truck a serious project!
Another great video....
I learn every time I watch your work....
Who gives a Sh@t what the trolls say? This is your build your vision.... Keep going, and we'll keep watching ....
I wouldn't have a clue where to start. I'm impressed Kyle!!
Kyle, I am impressed each time I view your content.
Good evening, thank you for reality check, great video 👍I have same problem sequencing my life, best off staying in garage, less choices!
Man, this is so cool! Was that too supportive? I can fix it... every idiot knows that paint removal is done best with reverse magnetism, that MIG welders are best served to open canned cat food, that you're ruining a classic and would be better off feeding this pristine thing into a baler and shelling out $60k canuckian on a '24 Kia PlasticPod. Cheers from New Hampshire... and stop ruining that innocent cream puff. 🙂
Finally someone with some actual smarts shows up to pull back the curtain on this whole charade. Chicken Tructiac or whatever bah. Ruined a museum quality show piece just for laughs.
I remember magazines! In fact, I might have that issue! As for complaining about your technique, I am not sure if I am too dumb, or too smart to make a uncalled for comment, but I choose to just keep watching and support the channel! Maybe I should say something…Ok Kyle, 46 minutes of video that you could have easily shown us the whole process in greater detail in under 4 minutes, and the rest of the 46 minutes could have been the cat! Let’s get the priorities in check! Lol! Just my input, and I am not really a cat person.
Very interesting never saw or did that myself but really respect your bravery cutting the steel with authority like you do . I’m sure it will look spectacular when you’re done with it . I will be watching with bated breath.
puppies and kittens. everything else is just noise.
Good idea to use the Pontiac peak for the chicken truck hood. Looks like it will work well. I enjoy watching each step you take toward the end result. I’ll be watching til the end of this chicken truck build. I’m looking forward to the next one too. Thanks for sharing. 😮
GENIUS! You always make it appear easy.
Comment just for the algorithm, hi Kyle
Hi Nick!
Obviously once I've graduated from the Trolling Academy the tone of my comments will be different, but as of right now I strongly approve of the content of this video.
Best of luck on your final exam!
What's a troll?
I learn somthing everytime I watch and get a chuckle from your antics keep the content coming and thanks.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda, don't worry about dix comments.
It's coming along just fine. You need to get a grille lined up.
Good progress. Speaking about hair and hair products, I have this darn colic on the back of my head. Any advice? 😁
As someone who struggled with a 4 inch rot on a radiator support, your work is just amazing. I will keep watching for entertainment and inspiration. Thank you sir.
I liked the subtle Fitzee shout out. I showed him one of your videos a while ago about welding sections without warping. He seemed pretty impressed.
Frankly I was coming around to the vintage cowl induction look.
Plus he wouldn't have had to section the engine....
And you could see the engine from inside of the cab...😆
Looks great.
I do not think there is a wrong way of building a custom vehicle like the Chicken Truck.
i want to move away from civilization. Anybody can make a F .UP but not anybody can fix one nice job !
Great video Kyle!
Eat a pear, tickle a bear??? Ok. Maybe inhaling that undercoating was a bad idea.
I was impressed with how easy that undercoating came off. Granted that I didn't have to do it so it was really easy...
Have fun. But not too much.
I love the smell of burning undercoat in the morning--it smells like victory...😉
*Carter's Hair Styling does not endorse bear tickling.
-A message from the CHS legal team
How boring...
@@glennnickerson8438 I've smelled enough of that stuff. I'd just enjoy the victory. ;)
Mung is what keeps me coming back!
Most of us have never sectioned a hood so what would we know whether it was right or wrong? Your truck do it the way you want! Keep the videos coming I'm liking this build.
Again, I am amazed by the quality of your work. It surprises me when I realize that this is your first project and you are just learning as you go. Your welding is remarkable for a newby. I’m sure you will be a pro if you keep up the practice.
I think he's been around bodywork for a lot longer than you may think
He had to start metal working just recently because he got fired from his vacuum repair gig. Personally I feel it was unwarranted
Thanks! It's my first day!

I can see that you're a man of eclectic musical taste, which prompts me to ask whether the music you choose is selected from the internet or is it from your own collection? Whatever, I have to say that the injection of some culture into the medium of hairstyling is to be applauded. 👏👍
All the music is from youtubes copyright-free music library. I'm not allowed to supply my own music...that being said, I do enjoy a good harpsichord solo.
A good harpsichord solo should include fire... If Jimmi Hendricks had played the harpsichord you know he would light it up!
@@CarterAutoRestylingKinda gives it that Addams Family vibe !
That old truck really took a beating. I can understand why the designers sculpted models out of clay. There are so many shapes to them. I can appreciate your efforts to reshape it into what you want. I see where you're going with it more clearly with each video. It will be epic.
I'll definitely have to do a lot of bondo/clay/paper-mache sculpturing to determine the shapes I'm after!
I been waiting to see how you tackled that hood, it looks great already.
Master Allan is looking great this evening! Nice chopping of the hood, Tom and I are amazed with the project work being done!
Love your work. I dunno, maybe pick a grille next? I have a soul-sucking day job; living vicariously through your channel. Please keep it up!
Good job, Kyle. Everything you did there makes perfect sense to me, and I'm not frightened by that realization.
The music really classes the joint up. Oh I see...you're bringing civilization to you versus you going to civilization. I was out in civilization the other day and picked up your participation award trophy but I'm keeping it for myself...it really classes up my joint.
Fitzee would be proud. Keep it up it looks primo. Tickle a bear. 8^)
Great show!! Take some advice/comments from an old engineer - if we kept doing things like we have always done them where would we be bows/arrows and spears with stone tips and animal skins for attire, etc. Edison tried something like 10,000 different ways to make a light bulb. He never considered any of them as a failure but as a learning experience - he found 10,000 ways that didn't work so that the 10,001st way would work. Some of my best successes came from the lessons I learned from trying something different failing or at least not succeeding and then improving from there. The thing I hated hearing was "We've never done it that way" or "We have always done it this way". Give the nay sayers the good old middle finger you're number one salute and keep on keeping on. Your ingenuity/creativity, eye for detail and seeing the evolution of your ideas makes the shows all the more worthwhile in my opinion. Also appreciate the dry self deprecating humour.
Surely you can get some wet ice? That would probly work just as well.
Hey, Dan over at DD Speed Shop in Winnipeg got a fibreglass hood for his "57 Chevy. You should just get one of those!
I think you and Half Ass Brent are comparing notes eh?! Little nod to Fitzee in there too 🇨🇦
Its been awhile since I saw Brents video but I was thinking his firewall was still original. Kyle has the added complication of not having the original rear hood height. He's fitting things up right now so I'm holding my breath to see how he works this out. I'm guessing the cats will have to get involved this time because he might have bitten off more than he can chew
The old chicken egg is starting to hatch out!!! I think the peak of the car hood will look good on the truck. Got my parents watching now, my mom likes the music selections you add and your humor as well. keep up the great work Kyle.
Woo Hoo Mung Scrapping! My favorite! What will kite flying Kyle come up with next?
You make splicing the hood together, seem effortless!
Really enjoying watching this build take shape!
Thanks for following the build, Tom!
Using a body saw instead of a cutoff wheel is an excellent idea. Wish I'd thought of that a long time ago!! (I realize you prefer negative feedback, but this tip is just really good so this time you get positivity)!
I always tell myself it ain't a mistake if you can fix it o I say thanks for your honesty 😊
A SURE sign of Spring….Pollen in the air and on the garage floor.
You NEED more space, I hear there’s hard vacuum there.
I’m loving this build. I can’t wait to see what grille you opt for. No hurry. No worries. I watched a guy working for three years on a Fury splice with lots of agents pitching in. 😂 (I’ve always loved those Pontiac waterfalls).
I really enjoyed this episode. Again, I admire your patience but craftsmanship takes time. Keep up the great work. Cheers!
Well done! Thiis is an ambitous project. Every turn brings a new set of obsticals. I wait for the next episode with great antisipation.
There's nothing wrong with that hood. That's a cowl induction hood from 1953. LOL.
Man you got a heck of a puzzle going on there! Can't wait to see the end product!
Well to be fair
Most of the hood is bare
The underside has paint still there
I'm glad you took the time to share.
Very poetic!
Great work. That Caprice is in great shape
Ah, you tried to HOOD wink us into thinking that was a piano movement eh, but NO ! I am sure it was a harpsicord ? .... rob nz
Great video yet again... I enjoy watching you go through your own process. Keep doing what you are doing!
I would put the dry ice in a large gin and tonic and continue to scrape off the mung with a chisel...!
😂
Kiss your lips goodbye (is that possible?)... Dry ice temperature is -109 F or -78 C to the rest of the world!😨
@@glennnickerson8438 Not really going to, it was for comic effect....🤪😏
Thanks for the video and content, I learn something every time I watch one of your videos. Keep going.
Nice work, Fitzee was just doing some hood work too, master metal class is in session! And Vacuum smashing, it's a good day.
You need more viewers like me. I don't have a clue how it's done so I just enjoy watching the what you are doing. It's the end result that matters.
Ok..Ok..Good Job On The Hood of The 1953 Chevy pickup...
I think you could include a section of hoover in the Peak of the hood
Best idea I've read all day!
Save the hose , run it through the hood and it will give it a Cord/Dusenburg vibe!😲
