    THE SNOWBLOWER OIL CHANGE THAT EVERYONE FORGETS ABOUT. The ARIENS SNOWBLOWER MANUAL calls for the FIRST OIL CHANGE at the ONE MONTH MARK. This is roughly at about 5 HOURS. I previously did an oil change at the 30 MINUTE mark to break the engine in. Watch and see how I perform this oil change after 5 hours of use and how the OIL TURNS OUT? What's inside that oil? Is it safe for the new engine? LIKE and SUBSCRIBE!!!

    Got A Powersmart with the Briggs 208cc engine last week. First Snowblower ever I ever owned. The Briggs engine manual says first oil Change after 5 hrs. Put in Briggs and Stratton 5-30 oil for the break in. Mine shipped with no oil. Ran the blower for 1/2 hr and after that put in 5-30 Quakerstate Full Synthetic. The Briggs manual says if you use Full Synthetic 5-30 the engine will start in -20 F. Gonna follow your oil change intervals for sure. Thanks for all of your cool tips and advice.

    A neighbour moved away to a warmer place and left his snowblower with another neighbour. Then the other neighbour loaned it to me. While I was using it, the engine seized. Turned out no one had ever changed the oil. Lessons learned: don’t borrow and change your oil

    I bought a Murray snowblower, 20 years ago from BJ's because nobody else had them during the storm. It's one of the big boys with the big old Tecumseh engine. I admit I don't change the oil as often as I should, but it still starts right up. I've had to restring the pull cord a couple of times, because there's a sharp edge where the string exits. I've ever replaced maybe two sheer pins and finally replaced the skid feed a couple of years ago. I also did replace the friction disc maybe 4 years ago. Probably didn't need to do it at that point, but I figured it was cheap money and only took me a couple hours from start to finish. It's been a solid machine otherwise. The only way it would have been better, is if it had trigger steering. The front right wheel has a locking pin that you have to manually lock when you want both wheels to drive.

    I ran the factory oil in my deluxe 24 for the first snowplowing session, probably 45 minutes. Changed it while still warm and put amsoil 5w30 small engine oil in it. I’ll change it again when it’s got about 2.5 or 3 hrs of run time on it. No oil filter on a small snowblower engine, it’s important to change that oil and get the contaminants out! Going to pull the valve cover and do a valve adjustment on it to this summer. When you worked them hard and get the valves hot, they stretch and it tightens up the valve clearance! Especially on a new engine engine! These are not things they tell you in the owners manual!

    The engine manufactures guidelines should be followed. Ariens gives a general guide of when to do maintenance but they also use different engines. The engine manufacturer does not know what piece of equipment the engine is going in. Every 6 months could mean a mower or generator.

    I did the same for my Cub Cadet on break in. Now I change the oil once a year if I use it? It hardly snows in CT. Plus I have a service clear my driveway & walk now.
    I check my oil everytime I started it. The oil is still like brand new on the stick.
    Like you I pour in Mobil One 5w30 full synthetic in all my equipment.
    I have yet to have any engine trouble in all my years. I've had carburetor issues due to ethanol fuel.

    Things are really crazy at my shop where I do contract work for Lowe’s customer returned equipment at the moment. There are over forty snowblowers packed in the shop right now and at least a third of them are Ariens. I’ve even got a video posted to show what it looks like right now.

    Hi! Should the machine be drained of its oil and stored that way in the off-season? Also, tried changing my oil today for its under 5 hour change and couldn’t get the nut off. What can I do to losses it up? WD-40 and let it sit for a bit?

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey Mckill! I definitely keep oil in there. Keeps parts lubricated in the off-season. You could soak the plug with some pb blaster over nite. Then put some vice grips on the pipe and try getting it off that way. Usually works!

    JB, can you offer advice about oil or high mileage oil? I see the high mileage ones that have additional additives that help with things like keeping seals soft, etc... so, for an Ariens snow blower that's 4 years old and in central lower Michigan, does it qualify for high mileage?

    • @GarageGear
      @GarageGear  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey bear I would say no to qualifying as a high mileage snowblower. When she’s over 20 years old then we’re talking lol. Even then I wouldn’t use that oil. Haven’t seen any info regarding this helping much with anything. 5w30 full synthetic would be fine for yours! 👍good question!
