    L😍VE this! Thanks for doing a realtime Peter disassembly timed without any pre training! To each his own…Just like buying Festool it’s a premium and well thought out product. The wheels option is amazing and it shows that the custom(proprietary I assume) knobs which can join tables together makes this complete! Need this in the USA!

    What a great system for making a modular workshop workstation where you can add as you go. Would be great if it had a module for adding a mitre saw with an adjustable height about 100mm below the main work surface to allow it to work with many brands.

      While it would be very good, there is a video on UA-cam that made "a small router table"-board (just a a plywood board). The interesting idea they had in the video was to attach one end of the board with bench dogs (really proving that benchdogs can hold anything if your creative enough) so it was floating in the air quite sturdy and didn't take up much space. It was important that it floated a bit in the air because below was a palm router, so it was not a router that is in a real router table (I assume those will deliver a bit more power, I don't know anything of it really). And also, this might not at all address your comment, it's just that this video and your comment reminded me of that.

    Beautifully made and thought out as always from benchdogs. I'm glad that you made the price comparison to your shop mft, I was thinking by the time you spec this up it becomes a bit of a fixture and might be better off to DIY for a permanent setup but maybe not so much difference. I left a similar comment on Ralph's launch video, but I've never regretted buying an MFT/3 (with rail) but it has its short comings which Benchdogs have addressed nicely with their take on a MFT style bench. I think it's priced well - albeit trade/professionals being able to justify the cost easier than hobby-shops. My only wish is that the benchdogs bench replicates the corner casting on the MFT/3 allowing the it to be stowed on a bench or cabinet, legs folded for workshop use and then legs-down when out and about.
    I can't wait for mine to arrive.

    Certainly looks like an excellent table. Base table good for someone with a garage and little room, kick the car out to work. With the extensions and horns good for taking to a place doing shop fitting etc.
    The only problem I see is the removal of the large extensions. There needs to be a way of forcing people to stand on the long side turn it towards you like the main table. Reaching over the end, with a bent back supporting the table is not going to end well.

    • @10MinuteWorkshop
      @10MinuteWorkshop  5 місяців тому +1

      Speaking as someone with a long history of back problems, with the splayed legs released and folded under, they actually support the extension pretty well when folding it up. But I don't disagree - maybe a handle cut-out either side, or one in the centre, would help? 🤷‍♂️👍

    • @johnclements6614
      @johnclements6614 5 місяців тому

      @@10MinuteWorkshop Once it is down its should be ok, no different to the base table. The problem is at 3:28 where you are grabbing something heavy that is falling away from you. As you lower it you are bending more.
      If you could lift it from the side you would not be reaching so far and the leg on your side would be taking some of the weight. As you lift it you would be reducing the bending, until you lower it when it is close to you like the main table.

    Many thanks Peter for this video. Its helped fill in some of the questions I had from BDUK excellent video introducing this a few weeks ago. Looks like an excellent premium product, so looking forward to your review of the Metabo version to contrast the value verse function. I am using a home made MFT using Matara 3090 extrusion with 8mm T slot, a cheap MDF MR Festool clone top and some trestles. This really keeps the weight down to a minimum for site work transportation and costs about £300, but has some compromises, such as you can only use Axminster Quick Lever Clamps but has some flexibility plus you can use a wide range of T slots over 3 levels. The new Evolution trestles would be a good cheap addition. Once again thanks for the video.

    I suppose I discovered your videos in the wrong sequence (watched the “almost perfect” Metabo bench yesterday). I’d taken a quick look at this (Benchdogs) bench, and had great expectations. All i can say is wow. The Benchdogs product looks like it has the stability and modularity of the Dashboard product, at a potential 20-ish % savings. I remain annoyed at the instability of the 3 Festool MFTs that are the core of my workshop when assembling large / heavy products, but I’ve been waiting for the ideal upgrade at a lower price than Dashboard system. I think the Bechdogs system might be the one I go with. Thanks Peter for demonstrating the Benchdogs product! I’m looking forward to your upcoming comparison video. I built my own a few years back using Tough master saw horses as a base, aluminium frame, with 4 highdromat mdf tops that bolt down into the top slot. Aligning with bench dogs so that all four tops are super square. This new Benchdogs unit is great value, yes even in the £500 range. For us in the UK the American version will cost you the same again in postage, import duty and VAT, as it did for the guide rail unit. Now Benchdogs make their better version, if only I had waited! I long to see one.
    Perhaps a slot in the top for sacrificial insert, as you use Peter.

      @@10MinuteWorkshop Great. I made the comment elsewhere but for my Festool MFT I have added two inline wheels which are removable, so the table can "skate on one edge" rather than always picking it up etc. For this new Ultra MFT I'd support the same idea so you don't always have to use the cart config. It's really helpful to sometimes just balance and push the table through narrow spaces this way etc. That reach over with the current weight would be a killer for me as I have basically ruined my right hip flexors doing stuff like that.

    There are a number of adverse comments about the cost (me included!) but as Ralph replied, "Compared with what?" BDUK £1925 for 3046mm x 1484mm if my understanding calculations are correct, PWS Dashboard $3,000 plus carriage for 2352mm x 1020mm (so not quite 8 x 4), three Festool MFT/3 in tandem £1950 for 2319mm x 1151mm (again not quite 8 x 4). There are cheaper ways of cutting down 8 x 4 but really only by relying on a rail square and not as accurately repeatable.
    But also worth considering is that the PWS Dashboard weighs 27kgs without outriggers compared with 34kgs for just the BDUK core table, i.e. before you count the extenders. The reason may be because the Dashboard's top is Baltic ply not MDF and ceratinly not as heavy as Valchromat. I recall Peter built a portable bench using poplar ply. Question for Ralph: Could that be a useful option to get the weight down?

    • @10MinuteWorkshop
      @10MinuteWorkshop  5 місяців тому

      AFAIK Dashboard uses a much lighter-weight extrusion. Turns out Poplar ply isn't a great choice for a benchtop - far too soft IMHO. Birch ply would be better, but the weight saving vs MRMDF is modest on a top of that size, likely less than 3Kg.

Looks like it could be robust enough to use for occasional hand tool work, eg chisels and planes, with appropriate vice or other grippers. Love the feet, I'd probably modify it to add them if it didn't have them.
    This popped up just after I'd finished watching some US videos about making 5-frame NUC boxes for bees to advise my son how to make his own. @@10MinuteWorkshop first few that jump out are the placement of the handle and the way the legs fold up. The handle on the underside seems like it would get in the way of using clamps. Yes, you could move the piece and clamp but when you spend that much money you should be able to clamp using any doghole you want. Additionally, not all people would be able to reach said handle - different size arms. Would be better to make a handle that is removable to not get in the way of clamps. Maybe a handle that the user would insert into dogholes to carry the table. That would also give the user the ability to use the handle that adjusts to their arm length.
      For the legs - and maybe I’m just super picky - but they should fold flush to the table when folders up for storage. That 15* angle that the top sits at is… awkward. Again, when you are asked to pay that much for a tool, the user shouldn’t have to make adjustments in their workflow to accommodate for misses on basic functionality.
      That said, I am impressed that they had the forethought to add removable wheels for transport. I hate that all MFT companies before this say “it’s mobile!” but they make them so heavy that no one actually moves them. Adding removable wheels to this bench dog top is exactly what’s needed! There seem to me to be several streams of woodworking or carpentry or joinery. There is site (could well be at clients’ premises) work which includes 2nd fix; there are professional workshops producing bespoke pieces plus, perhaps a little work on site. And then there are hobbyists.
    I would dare to suggest that hobbyists are the main target market for most of the “ground breaking”, “can’t live without” etc. etc. tools that come on the market. Perhaps people with money to burn or people who think that this saw or that drill will transform their skill levels overnight.
    I certainly agree with the principle of buying the best that you can afford - but knowing what is best in terms of what you do and how often you do it, is tricky. Too many YT channels are subsidised in some way by the manufacturers. Fully disclosure is sometimes forthcoming (I have no issue with 10MW on that) but I still wonder about conscious or unconscious bias.
    The 2 things that I think every woodworker needs are the right mindset (combination of patience and precision) and practice. I don’t know of any website where these are for sale

    • @10MinuteWorkshop
      @10MinuteWorkshop  5 місяців тому

      I’d say that ‘comfortably fixed’ hobbyists are a large market for many professional level purchases, whether that’s tools and hardware, or golf clubs, tennis rackets, cameras, computers, or wrist watches, there’s be someone somewhere with sufficient funds to make discretionary purchases that would make the rest of us flinch. Of course, saying ‘the rest of us’ is a misnomer in itself - we all tend to think that everyone out there is just like us, even though we know they’re not.
      As for ‘too many UA-cam channels being subsidised by manufacturers’, there are 38 million active UA-cam channels, if you can’t find ones to watch that don’t meet your exacting standards of disclosure, then maybe you should start one.
      Totally agree with you though; the only thing that truly improves your woodwork is doing woodwork. 👍

I may only watch for a minute or so if I don’t appreciate the style or the skill level or whatever. I don’t think my standard for disclosure is at all exacting but rather honest. Perhaps honesty is too exacting.
      I admire greatly those who make YT videos for pleasure and for teaching. Clearly, there are many who also seek, or do, make an income from it. It is my thought that all should disclose free gifts or discounted purchases as many channels do. When I see walls of Festool systainers or Woodpeckers rulers and squares, I wonder. I see also that some channels are distributors (not affiliate shopping) of tools they show and, again, I hesitate over the impartiality of the advice given.
      Start my own channel? Why? Is that the correct answer to asking for what I think most reasonable people would expect from existing channels? I would suggest that many do not have the inclination to make videos or the time or the necessary teaching skills to do so. Are we saying that these people must not criticise but go away and start something they can’t do?
