It's fantastic how you folks keep coming up with more and more useful add ons to boost the functionality of the MFT table top. And these videos sure do help me get a better understanding of how I can actually use one and how it will boost my productivity. I'm about ready to finally invest in one and your system! thanks for putting these out on YT.
As I mentioned in a previous video. I think it would be very helpful to those with small brains to have “packages” or “kits”to purchase the include the track tubes, mft tables, mft rails, etc other than me having to drill down all kinds of pages to try and ensure I don’t miss anything. Which results in me having to order additional parts that I forgot and have to pay shipping again.
I agree with your suggestion. I talked to Fred and he is going to add various packages in the near future. He is also looking at possibly having a new website designed that will make this easier to set up in the back end.
The rail dog clips (mentioned at 6:00) work best if they are both contained on the INSIDE of the bench dogs. This keeps the rail snug when it is flat on the material, but makes it easy to lift the rail after the cut. I have the Stanton dog locks and they really do work great - basically replaces my need for a rail hinge at 1/4 the price.
Bora now makes a 36” height version of the centipede. As someone who is 6’2”, even 36” could use an extra inch or two. As such your TrackTube system sounds ideal for me.
Just received the TrackTube, TrackTopExtrusion Kit, Raildogs, and Centipede Knob kit for my Centipede. Hardest part is ordering so maybe packages are better. Anyway, these products are great. Thanks
Fred - I've been using my Track Top and Track Tubes. I can't say enough good things about them. They save me so much time and everything breaks down quickly into small pieces that are easy to store in my shop. I'm not sure if a centipede is in my future, but I'll have to look into it.
great info without wasting our time and REALLY wonderful innovations for the woodworker, all though I do disagree about the centipede height. I'm only 5'7" so I really appreciate the lower height actually being available and hate the fact that ergonomics seem to always be set up for giant men with gargantuan hands. Centipede was smart to go with a low height as one can always add height but you cannot lower it. and yes.. while the stabilization isn't a big deal when you are working alone I'd worry about someone bumping the table while Im using a tool on it. Love the attachment innovations!
Extremely innovative. We made our own MFT top while using the Bora 2 by 4 stand. I braced a 1” by 2” with the supplied cups that Bora provides and its very stable. Although we use the UJK rail guide clips and they work well but i am very interested in learning more about your extrusion so I can mount a Festool Hinge. Do you sell tje extrusion separately? And if yes, do you have a video showing more about the extrusion with a mounted Festool hinge? Thank you for the innovation and keep up the great work!!
Thanks for watching. There is a lot of info on the website and content n this channel where you can learn more. Or just send me an email through the website and I'll give you a call.
Nice product. I’ve been watching the evolution of the track tube over the last 3 years. As I recall, Dave Stanton developed the track saw rail adapter for bench dogs. although many are reproducing these days I do think you should be crediting him. I am also interested in the adapter for the nonslip pads for the centipedes base but don’t see them as an accessory on your site. Are they only available as part of the kit?
It's been several years now, so my aged memory may be wrong, but I saw similar clips being used somewhere on social media. At the time, a couple different versions of the clip were available online to download and 3d print. This was around the same time (I think it was before) Dave Stanton started offering them for sale. I actually downloaded and printed them, but re-designed them to work better (I think) ... adding a design that had a slight spring action and a thumb tab. I've been using them in my own shop for years ... since 2018?
I really like how you add more functionality to the centipede and it's a shame you don't ship internationally (yet). One niggle though: your demonstration of the original worktop being a bit wobbly is not quite genuine since you only added the lock at the corner points and not in the center. Mine doesn't wobble one bit when all six are locked.
The extrusions fit fine in the speed horse saddles. The mft can be turned perpendicular and fit but new mounting holes will have to be drilled. I would also recommend supporting the top since the space is much wider.
Could the TRACKTOP MFT be directly connected to the QuadTracks on the Centipede without having to use the MFT extrusion kit and be able to use rail accessories?
Can the extrusion kit attach directly to the centipede without the extra tracktubes? I’d like to eliminate the extra tracktubes that stick out the ends. Two sets of tracktubes running right next to each other seems unecessary but would like to have the option of attaching a hinge.
The kit extrusions aren’t long enough to span the centipede but you can use the longer tubes and cut them to whatever size you want if that makes sense.
When just using the quarter turn raildogs how true of a 90 is the cut. How precise and accurate are the dog holes placed on the mft top. I do plan on using a benchdog fence system or one similar so wondering how accurate my cuts would be with the dogs instead of a hinge system.
I have a question, can the tops of the centipede pivot out enough that the QuadTracks that are connected to the centipede itself will align with the edge of the MFT worktop? If so, it seems that you could directly connect the worktop to the QuadTracks without having to use the MFT extrusion kit without losing the added utility of being able to use accessories that attach to a rail flush with the edge of the MFT top. Thanks!
I'd also be interested in this. Your MFT top is certainly well thought out, but I already have two of the Bora 20mm models... I'd like to add t-tracks to it, but not at the cost of replacing every other part.
I've bought the Bora tops for my centipede and didn't like the way it connected or fit. It barely fits over the support legs ... but, if you want to adapt your tops to the TrackTubes, just add three shorter sections of extrusions across the legs, then mount the TrackTubes to them with angle brackets. I use this method with my Rigid Sawhorses. This allows you to adjust the TrackTubes the exact width of the Bora tops and lets you use the side track if you need it. I hope this all makes sense.
Love this, but the MFT Extrusion Kit is $129 but sold out. The two 45" Tracktubes and Hardware Kit are still listed in stock, but purchasing these separately comes to $215. Any way to fix that?
Hey Efri. This is an error on my part for not updating the inventory. I have plenty of the kits in stock and I have updated the website so they are now available. Thanks for watching.
I had the Festool MFT3 and got rid of it years ago .. I was tired of lugging it up and down stairs and how wobbly it was. It all depends on your workflow and how you use it .. but for me, the TRACKTUBES System is much more versatile!
Sorry this set up is still to short, and the the so called ultimate is just another Back breaker and is still not high enough. Also not enough T- Track slots to properly use the Dashboard hinge properly, IMHO. Even the FAQ on the dash*board website do indicate the use of one T-Track mounted in a flush dado. But I do not own any tracktubes so what do I know? I know unsupported wood or MDF can and will bend out of perpendicular with the work surface top. Yet unsupported work is a danger, so if you must a Bora Centipede is better than the floor with w 4'x8' x1" or 2" insulation foam but not by much. Think Three times, measure twice, and take your best shot. The Centipede is designed for use in it's fully extended position width and length and not entrapped to make it taller. Does Bora approve of this arrangement?
You should count how many times in the video you say MFT. It’s TOO MUCH! REALLY. REALLY. get the idea with the capitals? Anyway, it’s not relevant to repeat. Am I repeating myself. Huh? MFT? TOO MUCH? REPEATING?

I don't understand your point about the gripper inserts. Don't the gripper pieces already fit the P-tops?

I liked Centipede but hated the track ball.
This is pretty awesome.
Thank you.
Do you make connectors to connect shorter track tubes to create a longer length when you want it?
Miss your old channel Fred! Sure wish you’d start producing the DIY content again
Nice to hear from you again, SK. I miss it too. Things were a lot simpler back then but now I have to get after it and make a living. :-)

Very very cool
This looks like a great upgrade for my 4'x8' centipede. Exactly which length Tracktubes are you using in this video to attach to the centipede?
How will most of these products work with the Bora Adjustable Speed Horse, if possible?
The extrusions fit fine in the speed horse saddles. The mft can be turned perpendicular and fit but new mounting holes will have to be drilled. I would also recommend supporting the top since the space is much wider.
How accurate and square are the Bora top holes? Some reviews of it say the 2 pieces aren't perfect aligned
hi, can i buy it in germany?
what is the track hinge in this video? Is it made by dashboard?
Could the TRACKTOP MFT be directly connected to the QuadTracks on the Centipede without having to use the MFT extrusion kit and be able to use rail accessories?

@@GotItMadethat’s unfortunate; this would have probably topped my list if it didn’t need that extra set of rails (I’m very space constrained).

Hey frank. The tops are cnc cut so they are very accurate.
Have you tried the 1/4 turn dogs with the 18v. Festool saw, my guess is that the lower battery will bump the dog!?
I've used them and they work fine with 3/8 to 1" material. If using the rail clip with the dog, up to 3/4" material.

@@papparocket same here. I’ll continue to do some digging.
Great video, nice explanation.
You can buy Centipede tables in 36" heights as well.
It looks to me like the cost of all these parts added to the bora centipede is more than the MFT 3.
Everything you see in the video is much more versatile than the Festool MFT3 and about $140 cheaper than the Festool MFT3 Basic ..
Any way track tubes can work with bora centipede mft top
