As someone who lived next door to someone in college that decided it was a great idea to make full on steaks in their dorm, do not use mini grills or anything that can produce smoke in a dorm or hotel room....the fire alarm will go off, and it can trigger the sprinklers. Fun times!
It looked like kosher salt or some other kind of flakey salt. Much less sodium than table salt. But I also did think it looked like more than a little.
@@Morganaplays i never toom food science class cause that's boring, but ik it has to do with the chemicals that make things acidic neutralizing sodium, so you need larger amounts to cut through
The hamilton beach grill is great for people in apartments. I bought a previous version for like 49.99 and it has lived outside on my balcony for almost 3 years and is still kicking. For people in apartments with poor ventilation that thing is a 6/5 for me.
I think the mini grill deserve at least 4 stars. It does its job, it is not expensive, it is compact (so it is useful where it is intended to be used, like a dorm).
I have one of those patty stampers and they do work great if you aren't good at making even burgers yourself, these will cook even throughout and wont bulge up in the center :D. Also using saranwrap if those circle ones are out works fine too.
I think the grinder is the only gadget there worth buying. I'd be tempted by the mini grill, but you're right: my small cast iron pan would do better and be more useful.
I feel thats more of a dorm gadget in general (the minigrill) the grinder seems like a good tool if you dont own a kitchenaid to which you can attach different tools
huh, I think I would have given the patty party a higher rating honestly. I mean you can reuse it, you make several burgers at once, they pop out easily without using any parchment or anything and it looks easy to wash. A three at least for all those.
we use the mini grill to toast individual bagels, or to make nice sunny side up eggs for breakfast sandwiches. they get grill marks on top but the yolk is perfect. also works nice for those grilled cheese "shells" if someone's on a keto diet.
I’m actually loving that tiny burger grill. I’m an empty nester, so I rarely make myself a burger. I don’t like to drag out my large indoor grill and I don’t like making burgers in a frying pan. This little gadget would be perfect and I could use it to make other grilled sandwiches. Definitely the perfect size grill for one person and it doesn’t take up much space at all. ✌🏻🥰😊
That's why I got one (along with their mini waffle maker and mini griddle). I am single and cook only for myself, so it's nice having something that takes up little space and makes perfect single serving burgers.
Butter wheels are probably better for larger kitchens than the average home cook. I know I used to work in my college dining hall and we used them, especially for buttering bread for grilled cheese.
When I worked in a burger joint, we actually used the butter wheel coming closing time or when the machine we use to butter and toast the buns was broken.
The burger holder is actually to stop the filling from spilling out the bottom of the burger as you eat. We have disposable cardboard ones here in New Zealand at one of the burger restaurants. They work pretty well. I wouldn't necessarily purchase this particular holder myself as a little mess doesn't really phase me. Licking your fingers is part of the experience of burger eating hahaha
As someone who owns the Hamilton grill, it actually does a pretty good job searing if you give it some time however, once the grease dries on the grill and you try to cook more meat on it, it won't do as good a job so if you're only gonna cook a few burgers like max 4 or maybe even 6 it's good but anymore than that won't give you solid searing marks.
Not a burger expert by any means, but I believe that the way to distinguish the top of a patty from the bottom is to look which side is dented. The top should have some sort of concave shape from the utensil that was used from smashing it into form, while the bottom always stays flat because of surface.
Im impressed by the patty maker, the one you pressed into a circle, that is so perfect If you want to make a large amount of patty, it kinda get tiring to shape one by one, I also didn't like to get my hand dirty, if I can I will avoid it. I would definitely buy that
You are suppose to do a double grind and I mix chuck, short rib and brisket! When you double grind it. It presses them smother and better helping them to stay together better when you don't have time to handle them so slow and your pumping burgers or and flipping them
I feel like you should be given the price first, because it would be funnier when you had to deal with the burger holders knowing what a rip off they were
I dont think its kosher salt im pretty sure what he's using it flake salt or "finishing salt" which is much less salty than both and has huge flakes compared to the small crystals
Maybe the ridge or "lip" that gets made on top from the small space between the "holder" and "stamper" part? I would call that the top. And that lip makes it so your burger doesn't bulge as much and come out like a round meatball (it's why people just dent the middle when hand making). Or maybe he was just joking?
Great review...very indepth! This was like reading the manual but more fun :) Do people even read manuals anymore though...lol. Great job on your video :)
The plastic grinder is so strange! Where I live people usually have a metal meat grinder at home (we have quite a few traditional dishes that require ground meat and we prefer to choose the cuts ourselves then grind it at home). Making your own burgers at home beats anything you could buy too!
A cool video idea would be if you would gather all or most of the tasty producers and do a Price Is Right spin off but to guess different kitchen gadgets and then if the contestants get it WRONG, then they would have to cook a meal with them in a certain time limit. And there would be a cash prize at the end. Your welcome for your next best show, Tasty😂
