I think like hell there are also heavenbourne angels and the human "winners". He probably spawned in front of them for admission rather than the gates since he's long dead. Like the gate is where you register as a new member (soul), if you're "good" you get in, if you're "bad" you go to hell. Since he has already been "registered" he might not need to go at the front anymore so straight to the office where he gets oriented.
Not sure if it's the case, but it would be funny, since a theory on the Seraphim's name's origin is that they originated from the winged, protective, uraeus snake iconography from Egypt.
