Adventure Time has always managed to sneak in horrifying concepts by disguising them as absurd stories. “Jake gets hungry and goes inside himself, which is also a whole world” is a very silly premise for an episode, but it’s used to plant themes of existentialsm and nihilism, therein lies the genius.

It's crazy that this is a kid's show but filled with so much wisdom. It doesn't necessarily tell you what the answer is but you get a feeling about the outcome of the story. Like jake needs to eat at some point, so he can't hold on to his childlike imagination forever but he shouldn't forget it as it can be a true source of joy. When he sheds a tear it's so relatable as the kids who watched adventure time as a kid/teen have probably become adults by now and have experienced that sacrifice in childhood for maturity. You can't have both at the same time and something must be lost but in the end, no matter how much you want to hold on to your childhood, maturity will come with time like jake got hungry eventually, the grown up life will cause earthquakes through your life that you should address first with what you really need to do. This episode reminds me of the famous Carl Jung's story where he overhead his dad talking with a visitor how he was worried about his ability to take care of himself. And in that moment he committed himself to studying because he knew in that moment that, that was his life goal and that's what he needed to do. Just like Jake new he had to eat.

2:25 Slight correction: Azatoth isn't a god who dreams the and as such the universe would disappear when it wakes up he is a god who is constantly being forced to sleep for should he ever wake up he would consume everything that is. Yog-Sothoth is a much better example as Yog-Sothoth IS everything there is

    • @brokenrecorder4543
      @brokenrecorder4543 3 місяці тому +20

Well, it might also mean that while yog sothoth represents the "true" reality (the pure and primordial state of things), azathoth represents the "false" reality (inspired by the true but distorted and diluted to fit the dreamer's perception). It's kinda like azathoth's supposed preacher (Nyarlathotep) wants to ensure that whatever the end of the dream would lead to, it must be closely related to the latter's interest in humanity. Something that Nya doesn't want.

I've seen that " correction " being passed around the internet for quite a bit, but really there is nothing in the mythos written by lovecraft that contradict azathoth being the one dreaming all of reality and quite a lot that heavily imply it is doing exactly that
the fact it's the being at the center of all infinity, the fact that the flute player who decide wich rules all realities apply by use said music to keep it asleep, the fact that nyarlathotep the litteral soul of all Other Gods, wich include yog sothoth by the way, call it " my master ", and the fact that it match completely with the whole point of the mythos wich is cosmic indifference what better way to represent that than making a creator god that didn't even mean for reality to exist in the first place ? there's other example but safe to say that yes azathoth was most probably written as the center piece of the cthulhu mythos in one way or another

@@dovhadark7108Well, it wasn’t supposed to be called the Cthulhu Mythos in the first place. Lovecraft’s intended name for his series was supposed to be the Yog-Sothoth Cycles.

I thought goose mentioning the 5 bucks implied something like this happened before and he was _cheekily_ hinting that he helped him before, foreshadowing to us the viewer that he'll help him out again. Seeing as "everyone" is *physically* a part of Jake, then no "one" is truly gone and we can assume that "Goose" is Jake's subconscious memory.

IMO, Goose represents Finn's influence on Jake.
Even when you're alone, there are people in your life who you just can't get out of your head, and become integrated as one of the voices of our psyche.
Often, this is a sign of emotional abuse or Codependency, but Adventure Time actually does a good job of showing this kind of deep interconnectedness in a positive light.
Everything you said about Goose is true, but I think it came from Finn specifically- his sense of right and wrong, and that Jake chose to become a better person for him.
Jake addresses Finn as Goose at the end because, deep down, he was talking to his personal, inner Finn the whole time.
They both see themselves as "Finn and Jake," but can operate in the absence of the other because they recognize each other's respective Best Self and can use that to make themself stronger.
And we later find out that Finn is able to keep living without Jake and be a great hero, using his brother's memory to keep him stable and on the right path.

@@TeeBreak This video got in my head a bit and left me pondering, especially in how Jake was the one with the thiefish proclivities, yet was the one to exist on a higher plane in the afterlife...
But then I remembered that Finn's past life as Shoko was as a thief.
Except, their motivations were entirely different- Jake states he literally didn't know better, almost foreshadowing a kind of High Wis stat that's on a level that's just plain incongruent with basic society. If he's actually near the point where he's seeing the One-ness of everything, then yeah, maybe in this life, maybe he would need to have the basics of personal property explained to him, I suppose. (At least, by adventure time metaphysical logic)
Meanwhile, Shoko was motivated by very Earthly factors like some greed, but most largely fear- more specifically negative earthly feelings over positive mortal motivators, like their newfound positive relationships in the Candy Kingdom.
I daresay that this experience seems to be a key motivator in the underlying sense of righteousness Finn would go on to be born with- and also be the guiding element that was the grounding, positive earthly nudge Jake needed to be his best self as the Adventure Time equivalent of a Bodhisattva-esque figure. (achieving nirvana, but returning to the mortal coil in some capacity for the betterment of unenlightened souls)
I daresay you could make some really fascinating exploration on the meaning of thievery in Adventure Time, as its kinda a huge point in almost every character's story. From the themes of the Ice King "Stealing Princesses" to the Magic Man's hat, (which also ties neatly into a sense of enlightenment) to the above ideas with Finn and Jake.

They kinda are, it's why people that think Google needs to listen to microphones are so stupid, it would be extremely expensive, not cost effective at all
Algorithms have been good enough to predict your behavior for years - it didn't show you stuff because you talked about something- it just predicted you would talk about that thing based on what you did before
Personally I find that way scarier than the conspiracy theory of them using microphones but what do I know
Another good example for this is women starting to get coupons and ads for baby products and only later realizing they are pregnant

Something I'm only just now realizing after watching that recap, the "Welcome Home Jake" party is eerily similar to the Space Jake episode (I forgot it's name) where Jake is welcomed to his "True home" in space, but it's all really an elaborate lie.
