Yes I did thanks - turned out to be a coin stuck at the end of the inlet pipe to the pump - right across the diameter plugging it almost perfectly. Of course you have to open up the whole underside of the machine to take a look, but it is pretty simple to remove the clips from the pipe. At first I thought there was nothing in it but because the coin settled right at the end of the pipe, within the harder plastic end, I could not find it without opening the pipe. One clue as to this sort of thing being in the system is that it will take a while to drain it - the water just dribbled out of the drain tube over about an hour - exactly because the interior pipe was blocked.
Mate, as a single female living in a flat alone far often we find ourselves in difficult domestic situations. Meaning things breakdown in the property and we don’t know what to do. The first thing that comes to mind is “I wish I had a man” ☹️ Your video has been a life and time saver. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Pls keep the videos coming.
But some men might make it worse! So glad to help out, it’s a great feeling fixing things yourself and saving money. Glad you got it sorted and have a marvellous week.
I'm over here, after cleaning the drainage pipes, which were quite blocked, confused about what else is blocked. Totally forgot about this filter. Then checked it out, only to find a dam of sewage like water, loads of blockage, all cleaned out, after a long time of cleaning the filter area, the semi-flooded floor despite collecting most of the water up and disposing it off, then taking a shower, finally had my dinner. Meanwhile my dad has no clue what needs to be done, barely knows which setting his clothes need to cleaned on. Hence he is fast asleep. lol. He'll he happy to wake up and find out, I've cleaned it all up. First ran few of my clothes in the quick setting, all water had drained, clothes didn't smell weird or have weird water, it's all proper and clean. Then ran his clothes in the washing machine, once sun is out, it's ready to be hanged to dry. Where I'm from, we have the worst customer care. Last time they sent some trainee guy, who wasted almost a week or so, cost a bunch, basically me and my mom were telling him what we think the issue is, he basically ignored us, finally his superior on phone told the same thing my mom and I said on the first day of his visit, turns out we were right. He'd do one small checking, behaved like he was fixing something, then would tell us to run the washing, he'd leave to work at some other customer's, I'd call and tell him how nothing is fixed and water hasn't drained, I'd have to manually drain bucket or more of the dirty water due to machine not yet cleared of blockage, but he kept asking after every "fixing" he did, to "test" it out, hence I had to manually clean out the dirty water so many times within that week. Sometimes, even if we don't entirely clean these things, drain pipes or filter, if it's cleaned enough, the machine starts working, but it'd be temporary you know, due to most of uncleaned stuff left behind, issue will show up soon again. That's basically what he did in the end. Issue was the drain pipe having a blockage. There are two pipes attached to each other, one main pipe fixed to the machine, another pipe attached with this, leading into drain hole. The latter pipe is very easy to detach from the main pipe. It's the main pipe being fixated to machine which seems unremovable. This dude slightly hosed off the easily removable pipe after removing it. Attached it back. But in a couple months, issue was back. I cleaned up the removable pipe with this DIY stick thing I made, gently scrubbed it out, then hosed it, whereas he just hosed it without anything else done. Now loads of stuff came out, even though I just barely rubbed it, with this lengthy stick made out of small coconut sticks from an old broom. I even used the electric tape to make the smaller sticks attached to one another, also, no sharp edges, all smoothened out. Then I used the same stick thingy to gently scrub the fixed pipe via the one opened end (removable pipe was taken off that end), while holding the pipe up, making sure it isn't "folded" as the stick can poke inside the pipe and cause damage, even though no sharp edges, I was careful, Then I'd remove stick out, gently hose the water into it, once it's full of water, since other end is shut into the machine, the water would almost start forcibly splashing back to me, I'd know right away the pipe is full, would let the water pour off into bucket, Sort of like cleaning a water bottle, but horizontally and gentler so as to not damage pipe. Repeatedly rinse it out like this, cleaned a LOT of dark dirt stuff out. He didn't do any of this. But cost us a lot. That was the main reason my dad, just stays patient and lets me figure stuff out, instead of randomly hiring someone to fix this up, knowing how much he ripped off and also how I'm more likely to fix it up sooner. I gotta build a shrine for youtubers like these who help out so much.
Practically wept when I saw the E18 message on the machine. I'm absolutely useless with things like this, but your step by step guide was just brilliant! Thank you so much, Lurgs!!
Thank you. Just fixed my washing machine thanks to your video. Having no money for a repair man every time something breaks down, this instruction is appreciated.
saved me 800 rs service charge and if a bad engineer , he will say part spoiled and he will install a spare part and minimum bill 1000 . so i have saved almost 2000 rs with ur video. Thank you

This guy saved us a £70 to £90 call out fee! top Man! a clear and concise way to solve the Bosch ERR 18 issue. Ours was a 20p in the filter. One thing i would add, is ours cut out mid cycle so we couldn't open the door so the water drainage was considerably more than in this video. about 3 litres! but I you a pint fella! thanks so much!
Just fixed mine here in Austria following this guide. It was a coin and a guitar plectrum. Mine stopped mid-cycle so a lot more water came out of the black pipe. Nevertheless, put a litre of water in after cleaning the filter, give a short spin and all good again. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Lurgs. I watched your other video (with the remarks about using your wife’s toothbrush to clean the filter) about draining the tube and cleaning the filter when my Bosch WM wouldn’t spin. I didn’t find anything except a few disgusting looking small grey slimy lumps but cleaned them off & washed the filter as per your instructions and replaced everything. Hey Presto! Machine spinning again. Marvellous. Thanks so much. From Tina - Bristol UK.
Great news, that’s a great result. I remember going to Bristol when I was a kid and going over the suspension bridge, I was terrified! Have a fab weekend 😎
Brilliant instructions, which I followed myself - would usually wait for hubby to arrive home to fix the problem (E18). I wasn't enjoying my admin/office work anyway - so fixing the machine was a welcome distraction. I was not able to open the door (lots of water still in machine) ; I drained the huge amount of water through the pipe - had to keep emptying the tray; and then followed the rest of your instructions. Perfect. Could still not open the door - checked your UA-cam about door-opening - viola - door opened (switched off electricity and pulled little lever, near filter to open the door) . I'm now rinsing the washing items - all seems to be great.! 💡🎊👌💥💦Thanks so much. You are a legend.
Brilliant result and thanks for the positive comment. It's very satisfying fixing something yourself and if you've saved yourself money. Hopefully that's fixed the problem now. Remember to check all pockets before every wash! Glad to have helped out and have a fantastic week.
We followed your video (which is super helpful) and cleared the filter from the blockage (a small sock!) and cleaned it thoroughly. We ran another load but we got the same error E18, we think it could be the sensor that needs to be reset. Could you give us any tips for the reset? Thank you so much in advance!!
Goede evening, 2021 13 feb i had this problem E18 but wen I search in youtube find ur video help me lots lots to solve the problem. Thanks once again frm Belgium
excellent - thank you very much indeed!!! (for all your videos) the only problem I have is that I can turn the pump filter (blue thingy) about quarter turn and no more....is it possible that whatever blocks the impeller is also preventing me from fully unscrewing the filter???
@@LurgsHowToGuides unfortunately this didn't work... so today took the machine apart and sorted! bit of a PITA because Serie 6 Bosch requires removing top panel (screws at the back of machine), to remove front panel (screws on the front and under the bottom) and the rest was easy - thank you.
Thanks. If you can't turn filter I expect something is preventing it from turning. Prime suspect will be a metal hairclip. You may have to get a bit more forceful with it. Good luck
Thank you so much for this very usefull video. It helps me to fix my issue when my clothes stayed locked inside. At the end i found two coins in filter.
I enjoyed watching your video --- I found a paperclip and a coin in the filter however I had the more major problem of removing a clog of fabric from the outlet hose at the sink ubend. All removed - all fixed thank you
Thanks my friend. You saved our day. And the washing machine. Even I was able to clean that filter. Ah. And it was a penny. Well 3 of them and a bunch of other dirt. Now everything works again!
This is a great video. But I have found another possible cause of error 18 is that the discharge hose is mounted too high and the pump can’t raise the water that high, so it accumulates in the drum. If error 18 happens consistently, there’s nothing in your filter trap, and you get massive volumes of water coming out of that little hose behind the round door, then you might have a look at that possibility.
@@mc_goat00 so, after reading the original comment I took a closer look at the discharge hose. It wasn't mounted too high, but the hose itself was long and the extra length was hanging low and in a twisted loop. I detached it from the u-bend under the sink and found a blockage too! So, removed blockage and untwisted the hose, smoothing out the loop and then it did not hang down so low. That was enough to get it to drain. If that did not work I would have tried shortening the hose a bit as it was long. Good luck with your machine!
Thanks, I needed a reminder video. I knew what to do, but couldn't turn the drainage filter. I had to use more force than expected at some point because many coins were stuck in there. Anyway, all good now, thanks for the video, good weekend!
Thanks so much. U saved me time and money. I could fix my washing machine in a jiffy so easily. Otherwise, I should have waited for the technician etc..
A BIG thank you for your channel and knowhow. You are 5*+. Your info helped me to mend my Siemens iq500 washing machine. Dave. New Mills, High Peak, Derbyshire.
Cool, glad to help. Normally overloaded or unbalanced load is an E32 error (video to come shortly!). Anyway, glad you got it sorted. Have a marvellous week and thanks for visiting my channel.
This video was so useful and didn't do a big intro of waffle chat either, just straight into the problem and how to fix it. Just fixed my washing machine on my lunch break! Cheers!
Hello mate nice easy to understand video. However I’m stuck at unscrewing the filter as it does a half turn then becomes stuck, I can feel sand in there and I can’t for love nor money unscrew it more (have used Somme pliers to try to unscrew and only managed to crack the handle of the filter). How do I unscrew it fully and where can I get a new filter cap?
Must be something stuck in there, probably a hair clip. Try doing it back up and undoing it lots of times to see if it dislodges. You can’t get a cap, probably have to get a new filter unless you can repair it. Should go in easily if the blockage is cleared
Hi! Just moved into a new flat but this error code popped up a few times already. I’ve drained the water and there’s nothing clogging up the pump, but after I take a look inside, there seems to be hair clogging up the propeller and I can’t take it out! :( Do you have any ideas? thank you so much for this video btw!
Hello I've just cleaned out my filter how your showed me to do it that keeps coming up with E 18 got that mean they could be something stuck in one of the hoses any information would be good
Possibly yes although it's worth checking the filter 'again' as sometimes when you remove it and put it back more debris can fall into it. If it's clear then try checking the drainage pipework to make sure it's clear
How much tight should the drainage filter be fixed since in my siemen washer instead of perpendicular shape it can go upto 30 degrees. Will it harm the machine. Please reply.
My guess is there is something stuck in there maybe a hair clip. You’ll just have to be a bit more forceful but be careful. If it does loosen then keep going, if it jams tighten up again and loosen again as the debris may clear the threads. Hope you get it out ok
@@LurgsHowToGuides embarrassed that 12 tenants in the house will say I damaged the washing machine. My clothes was inside.Someone put elastic band in the wash. Didn’t want to be in the landlords bad books. Thanks
Ami Hauptman Marvellous news, happy to help out and glad it’s all working again. Thanks for the comment, keeps me motivated to create more videos and build my channel. 😎
Hi... After clean it many times it still does show the error code.,. The pump wee blades does spin but not that freely as yours. Wondering if would be better to open the whole front cover to get access to pump from behind maybe?... What do you think... Cheers
Make sure there’s not a hair band or something stuck around the impeller that you can’t see. You can access pump from behind \ underneath but it wouldn’t show you much, if it’s failed it would need a new pump
Heloo I'd like to thank you very much for this video it was easy to find and you have helped me get my washing machine washing again! Happy new year!!! Also your sense of humor is great at times like this when fixing ya machine lol
I would definitely recommend to unplug the power cord from the wall socket. Usually a switch only cuts of one phase, still being dangerous when opening your washing machine with probably wet hands...
Good morning Lurgs, I have a Bosch KDME246GF front load washing machine similar to the one in your video. It kept coming up with the E18 error when trying to discharge water. I followed your video to clean the filter and removed coins and mens shirt collar metal tabs. I've since run the 15 minute quick cycle however when it gets to 10 minutes and tries to discharge water the E18 message comes up again and the machine beeps. What should I try next?
anne Higgins check filter again. Sometimes when you remove it then other bits can fall into it, so it could have more blockages. If it's clear then check the drainage pipework to make sure it's not blocked. Else you'll have to get a washing machine technician round. Good luck
Depending on the washing machine and load... you may need a bit more than a small tray... and the water coming out of there is likely not clean. The drain is clogged, and you washed dirty clothes with soap. Also, depending on the cycle, the water may be HOT.
Yes that will be something stuck in the filter stopping it (probably a hair clip). Try doing up again and undoing then wiggling machine about. You may need a bit more force but be careful as it's only plastic. If you broke it you could get another filter, good luck.
Thnx!!! Very helpfull' worked exactly like you explained and not only did we save arround 100$ it would have cost for a technitian to fix we got a 3.5$ bonus, the value of the coin we found!!! ☺ THNKS
Fabulous, if you are feeling generous you could post me the $3.50 but probably not worth it after postage fees etc! Glad I was able to help out today.😎
Also pays to check outlet fitting into your main waste plumbing system, I did this to find it clogged with a button and fibres. Machine now working properly!!!
My blockage wasn't actually in the machine, but was inside the nozzle connector just past the drainage pipe. Unscrewed it and found lots of gunky fibres and a shredded five pound note. Finally draining itself again after a week of draining it manually. Dry socks at last!
Strange, use a sponge to clear water in drum. Then undo filter very slowly and let the water drain from that but be careful as could be a lot, undo it very slowly

One thing i would add, is ours cut out mid cycle so we couldn't open the door so the water drainage was considerably more than in this video. about 3 litres! but I you a pint fella! thanks so much!
Great saving! Glad my video helped. Pint of Fosters 🍺😎
Love Austria, lovely people, lovely food and amazing scenery. Glad I could help and have a very Merry Christmas. 🎄
Massive THANK YOU! Now I am hero of the house because of this man!

Thank you!!! Just didn’t have the funds for repairs or repairs and your step by step easy guide was bob on!! 6 coins 2 necklaces hair grip + more 🥴
Wow that is a lot of items! Glad I could help and that you got it sorted. 😎
I think you can reset the machine to factory default but can’t remember how, have a search for it. Good luck
@@LurgsHowToGuides many thx! I sort it out already
Goede evening, 2021 13 feb i had this problem E18 but wen I search in youtube find ur video help me lots lots to solve the problem. Thanks once again frm Belgium
Thank you, glad I could help. 😎
excellent - thank you very much indeed!!! (for all your videos)
the only problem I have is that I can turn the pump filter (blue thingy) about quarter turn and no more....is it possible that whatever blocks the impeller is also preventing me from fully unscrewing the filter???
Bound to be a blockage like a metal hair clip. Keep tightening and untightening multiple times and hopefully it will work it’s way loose
@@LurgsHowToGuides unfortunately this didn't work...
so today took the machine apart and sorted!
bit of a PITA because Serie 6 Bosch requires removing top panel (screws at the back of machine), to remove front panel (screws on the front and under the bottom)
and the rest was easy - thank you.
The best instruction, wanted call for a help but I did by myself in 10min. Thank you!
Marvellous news. So glad my video helped you out today. 😎
Your videos have saved me a lot. Thanks.
Meanwhile what do I do if my drainage filter isn’t opening? It feels really tight, can’t open it
Good find and now you are slightly richer with 2 more coins! Enjoy the Easter weekend 🐣.
I enjoyed watching your video --- I found a paperclip and a coin in the filter however I had the more major problem of removing a clog of fabric from the outlet hose at the sink ubend. All removed - all fixed thank you
Great news, glad it’s all working 😎
Thanks my friend. You saved our day. And the washing machine. Even I was able to clean that filter. Ah. And it was a penny. Well 3 of them and a bunch of other dirt. Now everything works again!
Great news and also you are three pennies richer! Glad to help. 😎
Thank you so much for this. We followed every step and pulled lots of "treasures" out of the machine. It's working perfectly again.
Fantastic news. Glad you got it fixed. Hopefully there are some other treasures on my channel which you may find useful. Have a great weekend
Cheers for the info
Also some how pump used to drain out water stops working, or IC getting heated and stops to start drain pump from working.
Thanks a lot for this, Keith. You describe my machine's issue to the t!
@@mrsnatinatnathello my machine does the same thing how did you do it ?
@@mc_goat00 so, after reading the original comment I took a closer look at the discharge hose. It wasn't mounted too high, but the hose itself was long and the extra length was hanging low and in a twisted loop. I detached it from the u-bend under the sink and found a blockage too! So, removed blockage and untwisted the hose, smoothing out the loop and then it did not hang down so low. That was enough to get it to drain. If that did not work I would have tried shortening the hose a bit as it was long. Good luck with your machine!
Thank you so much I live on my own and have been in a state over my machine seriously appreciate your help ❤❤❤❤
Great news. Glad my video helped 😎
Mate, your videos repeatedly save me when these mystery errors pop up on our inherited washing machines. Thanks so much!
No problem, glad I could help out today. Hopefully you will inherit one that doesn't have errors! Have a very Merry Christmas. 🎄
Thank you. The problem I had was a penny stuck in the filter. Problem solved. Thank you again.
Shame it was only a penny, you aren't rich, good find though. Glad I could help. 😎
Thanks, I needed a reminder video. I knew what to do, but couldn't turn the drainage filter. I had to use more force than expected at some point because many coins were stuck in there. Anyway, all good now, thanks for the video, good weekend!
Marvellous news, glad I was able to help out. 😎, thanks I had an epic weekend.
Same. My one stuck so hard that I need to use a plier. Luckily the drainage did not break. Thanks for your comment so I had courage to turn them 😊
@@ledang9584 You fixed it, right? Congrats, good job! :-)
Thanks so much. U saved me time and money. I could fix my washing machine in a jiffy so easily. Otherwise, I should have waited for the technician etc..
That's a great saving then. Glad my video helped. 😎
Thanks a lot for your demo. Issue fixed. I believe Bosch series 6 has same functions as the demo video?
Glad it’s all fixed. Serie 6 should be the same, it just has a bigger load capacity. Glad to help and Happy New Year

Glad to help and now you are slightly richer! Merry Christmas. 🎄
Lurgs you're a man of the people. Thank you so much for this!

Hi! Just moved into a new flat but this error code popped up a few times already. I’ve drained the water and there’s nothing clogging up the pump, but after I take a look inside, there seems to be hair clogging up the propeller and I can’t take it out! :( Do you have any ideas? thank you so much for this video btw!
Try a long pair of scissors or a sharp knife to try to get the hair out. Good luck and be careful.
If it's clear then try checking the drainage pipework to make sure it's clear
great video, 3 hair bands 5 hair clips and a rusty pound coin ! how did in manage for so long !!
Amazing it was still working. That’s a great find and now you are £1 better off as well. 😎💰

Totally just fixed my washing machine....thanks man!
Great stuff, glad I could help out. 😎
How much tight should the drainage filter be fixed since in my siemen washer instead of perpendicular shape it can go upto 30 degrees. Will it harm the machine. Please reply.
It should turn the same amount as in this video then just lock into place. It should be natural don’t force it
That’s fine Thanks
I did as per your instructions above even my door was not closed previously now it did. Thanks again dear
Has these models got a reset system like the old Bosch brands
Not that I’m aware of, just be switching off at mains and unplugging for 30seconds
Clear and concise but very patronising!
Not sure why you think that, just trying to be helpful. Glad it helped anyway.
Thanks Lurgs, this is what youtube is for! Mine had hair in it.

Hello, your video is very helpful. Unfortunately I cannot unscrew the pump cover, its stuck. Can you help please?
My guess is there is something stuck in there maybe a hair clip. You’ll just have to be a bit more forceful but be careful. If it does loosen then keep going, if it jams tighten up again and loosen again as the debris may clear the threads. Hope you get it out ok
Thank you it worked, you saved me from embarrassment.
Glad it's all working again. Nothing to be embarrassed about.😎

Clear, concise and accurate. Cleared my wahsing machine thanks to you. Appreciated.
Great news, so glad I could help out. 😎
I would definitely recommend to unplug the power cord from the wall socket. Usually a switch only cuts of one phase, still being dangerous when opening your washing machine with probably wet hands...
Really good point.
Good luck
Thank you for sharing this video it helped me and family Pounds of money.

Thanks a lot... You helped me so much.... Have a great day 🍀
Thank you. Glad to help.😎
Depending on the washing machine and load... you may need a bit more than a small tray... and the water coming out of there is likely not clean. The drain is clogged, and you washed dirty clothes with soap. Also, depending on the cycle, the water may be HOT.
You saved my life bro, thank you so much!!! 👊
Cool, glad my video helped.😎
Thanks for the vid. Unfortunately when I turn the filter it only turns a quarter turn and no more so I can't get it out. Any ideas? Thanks
Yes that will be something stuck in the filter stopping it (probably a hair clip). Try doing up again and undoing then wiggling machine about. You may need a bit more force but be careful as it's only plastic. If you broke it you could get another filter, good luck.
@@LurgsHowToGuides thank you

Thank you very helpful, but still won’t drain. Is there anything else I can do?
If you’ve checked everything then unfortunately it could be a faulty pump or a computer error

Great news. So glad I could help. Enjoy your fresh socks. 😎
After opening the hoses at 1:15 and 2:00, there is still a lot of water in the drum. Do you know the reason?
Strange, use a sponge to clear water in drum. Then undo filter very slowly and let the water drain from that but be careful as could be a lot, undo it very slowly
