*Little Correction*: I misspoke when I referred to Owen and Beru as "Luke's parents." Technically they are his aunt and uncle, and his adoptive parents. My apologies!

I think they could’ve kept the line about our two not tasting very good. And why do you say that nothing challenges this, when it seems like revenge of the Sith has a pretty big following?

@@blindvision4703yes, that one was good - the best of its franchise, in the opinion of many. Montalban was incredible. But that was _Star Trek,_ a different space-based franchise. Also, they changed the title from "Revenge" to "Wrath" by the time it made it to theaters. But yes, awesome flick!

I was 13 years old when empire came out. I remember it well. It is still my favorite. When Vader told Luke that he was the father you should have heard the screams in the movie theater. This was the biggest thing in my lifetime. I can't even describe it the screams that came out of the audience was amazing.

I was lucky enough to be in London in May 1980 where I saw the exhibition of costumes, sets and props from Empire though I would see the film itself until it finally reached my town at the northmost coast of Scotland in 1981 but when Vader declared he was Luke's father I felt he was telling the truth. Somehow I knew there was no reason for him to lie.

@@PictureHouseCinema I found an old video on UA-cam.. I don't know how the heck they film this the 1983 but obviously it was from the back of the movie theater and it was the moments in Jedi when Darth Vader threw palpatine over the edge and the screams and the cries and the cheers coming from the audience. Try to look it up and see if you can find it on UA-cam I found it months ago. And it brought it all back to me. Star Wars has a very special place in my heart which is why I will never watch Disney's Star Wars.

The original sit in actor for The Emperor was Marjorie Eaton, who also appeared in films like Mary Poppins. Before stepping into film as a character actress, she was a successful painter and photographer. I remember watching the movie as a child in the 80s before it was fixed, not knowing who played that part, then I went to art school and one of my professors who was a huge Star Wars fan dropped that bit of information into our laps. I've studied her art career ever since.

When Vader first revealed the secret, my first reaction was that I didn’t believe him. I thought it was impossible. The Empire Strikes Back was a great sequel to Star Wars 1977, Irvin Kershner did a stellar job with the film, and The Empire Strikes Back along with Raiders of the Lost Ark were both Lucasfilm movies at its absolute peak. I have 2 thoughts on Lando’s wardrobe change: 1, he just needed a change of clothes after running around shooting and getting all grimy from the escape from Cloud City; 2, it was a visual cue to the audience to show that Lando is firmly on the heroes side. Up until that point you didn’t know you could fully trust Lando because he was constantly playing both sides to see which one would work out in his favor.

One thing I didn't see anyone mention was the question: Was Vader lying? We didn't know if it was true or not - what was Yoda going to say? Us 9 year olds debated for years and had to wait an eternity for "Revenge" of the Jedi (I had a buddy who's family was in movies and had that poster before they changed it to Return). I saw Empire in 1980, just as I saw Star Wars in 1977. I love them both. I've been a fan for 47 and 45 years. However, I hate Return of the Jedi. In fact, I despise it...
I agree with what you said about Vader's voice. He was a bit uptight and camp in the 77 film. "LEAVE THAT TO ME!! and "THERE'LL BE NOBODY TO STOP US THIS TIME!! Whereas in Empire, his voice makes him a scary mofo. Deep and menacing.
There's a change they did though that I hate. He used to growl "BRING MY SHUTTLE!" Now he almost mutters, "ALERT MY STAR DESTROYER OF MY ARRIVAL..." This is soon followed by an unused scene from ROTJ, which consequently slows the pace of the escaping Millennium Falcon.

It was amazing. I was 5. I'm adopted, which I'm pretty sure I found out when I was 5 or 6. It was very impactful. I, like everybody else, had no idea. I could barely comprehend it. I am, of course, talking about Darth Vader telling Luke that he was his father. I saw Return 3 times in the theater when I was 8 and was already a huge fan. As I'm sure most well agree, the destruction of something you loved being sullied in every way imaginable is quite disturbing. I think that George never should have sold out to the "white slavers" that have ultimately assassinated almost every single piece of this ip is very sad. I don't care what anybody says, the taint that disney has put on this franchise has made it into something else altogether. It is obvious and clear that disney wars is not for me. Nice video. Great video, but just a quick point. Lucas did not know Leia was Luke’s sister at this point (hence why he had them make out at the start of the movie). He was going to have Luke learn he has a twin sister in Return of the Jedi and then, after the defeat of Vader, have episodes 7-9 be Luke searching for his sister and working with her to defeat the Emperor. But then it came time to work on RotJ and he decided he was fed up with Star Wars so he rushed the Emperor’s story (fully introduced and killed him in the same movie) and rushed the twin story (had Leia revealed as the twin so he didn’t have to introduce and develop a new character).

8:07 it might’ve been nice if they had left Luke’s original line when he picked up R2-D2 from the ground after being spat out by the monster: “you’re lucky you don’t taste very good,” instead of “you were lucky to get out of there!“ And maybe they should’ve kept the original light saber ignition sound for Luke during the first exchange between invader cloud city. But maybe I’m nitpicking at this point. I thought the millennium falcon scenes dragged out a bit or were kind of repetitive, but maybe that’s just me. It’s a Star Wars film, definitely one of the better ones, top three or four. i’m surprised you don’t see revenge of the Sith as holding a candle to it, but I guess that might say more about either your view of our OTS or of ESB, but I’m not a mind reader. Feel free to explain yourself if you wish - or don’t, it’s your channel. I also think at least some of return of the Jedi is good. I don’t know. I never feel entirely honest when I say that X is my favorite Star Wars film. The Phantom Menace might be a guilty pleasure of mine, but even it may have some feature that others don’t like. Is that my favorite? maybe, maybe not. Empire or revenge might be the best or strongest ones. Or return. IDK.

Empire is one of the best movies of all time, not just the best Star Wars movie.

George Lucas’s idea on who the ‘other’ was changed between TESB and RotJ. Originally it was indeed Luke’s sister, but she was an unknown character and discovering her was to be a major plot point in future movies, but George was tired, going through a divorce and wanted to put SW behind him. So RotJ became a flawed finale with lots of plot points tied up much sooner than they should have been, and in some cases leading to disappointingly weak scenes.

Hasbro released an action figure of Lando wearing Han's outfit. It was called smugglers outfit or something like that. So smugglers have a uniform...? I guess... Family Guy was right. It's weird.

I like film noir or dark movies but this was just the worst like everything that can does go wrong and it ends with them losing and we had no idea Return of the Jedi was coming

TESB is the dragon that Lucasfilm and the fans have been chasing over 4 decades.

Well said, it’s weird seeing the paradigm shift with younger people claiming that ROTS is the best. I grew up in the prequel era but have always preferred the OT, and as time goes on the OT and ESB specifically only seem to age better, where as the prequels seem like they’re aging a lot worse. I still like certain aspects of the prequels but there are far too many flaws to overlook when considering any of them for the “best in the series” title. Additionally, the OT just feels the most “Star Wars” to me, there’s something about the atmosphere of the first three films that hasn’t been captured since then and I can’t exactly pin point what that feeling is, but I’m sure other fans would agree

That's what I was thinking. Grew up with the prequels and really the only one I occasionally rewatch is revenge of the sith. I think nostalgia bias is crazy towards the prequels. The OGs just have those wholesome 70/80's vibes - the costumes are kinda rough, practical effects, it's all so genuine. Never had to see the OG's in a theater to love them cause they stand up on their own beyond just spectacle.

I respect your opinión, but Idisagree in several things.
In my opinion, the entire Han and Leia arc seems like pure filler to me. I'm not interested in their romance at all and they become very secondary characters. Not as much, as they will be in Episode 6, but they do not play a crucial role in the saga beyond being the friends that Luke decides to go rescue. For this film it is already clear that Luke and Vader are the two main characters of the saga, and that is the positive.
As for the script, it is more than 90% Lucas's. Although Brackets is listed as her writer, her script was rejected, and she appears courtesy of Lucas, after she died. And as for Kasdan, his contribution is no more than a few tweaks.
And finally the direction, I think Kershner is tremendously overrated, and his professional career beyond Star Wars speaks for itself.
Personally, I consider Revenge of the Sith to be the best film in the saga.

Idk man I think Attack of the Clones has this one beat in terms of romantic subplot. And is just a better film in general. I think of the nine films that Empire is my least favorite because it's the most boringest one.

TESB was a cliffhanger between A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. It sure kept me hanging on for film three. I felt more or less disappointed at the end but, knew there was more to come. So, couldn’t wait for #3!
