- This video will demonstrate how to remove an old bicycle tire and inner tube and replace them in about 5 minutes once the wheel is removed.
The Goodyear tire and inner tube used in this video were purchased at Walmart.
My Dad taught me when I was 6.... 50 years later I had to look at your video to help me! Thank you
Glad it helped, thanks for watching! 🛠️
@@TheEclecticHandymanwhat if the inner tube won’t keep in fucking place
Dang you old
Yeah that literally flat tire made it a bit more difficult that the ones that have a normal tie shape. this video helped me from messing up the tire trying to figure out how to do it!
At 44 years old, I did 2 things for the first time in my life today. . . Changed the tube on my bike tire and left a comment on a UA-cam video. Thank you for the clear step-by-step instructions. The video did say 5 minutes and I took me probably an hour BUT I got it done and I feel accomplished! Back in the saddle again 😊
That's fantastic, glad it helped and you're able to get the bike fixed! Thanks for leaving the nice comment, and for watching!
Plain and simple for those (me) who don’t have the proper tools, thank you!
Wow, super helpful! I've never done this before and this video helped me n my son out. He's proud of mommy for fixing his tires on his bike. Now to watch him enjoy his bike again, thank you!!
Glad you all got it fixed, thanks for watching!
Girl, we’re here for the same thing ❤ I’m gonna do my damndest
On a massive weight loss. My cuz recently gave me a bike to help further my progress.I refused to pay someone to do it for me and thought I should learn. I’ve watched a couple videos that just frustrated me. This one made putting new tires and tubes on my bike for the first time in my life a breeze! Thank you! I feel more competent than ever lol
Hey enjoy that bike, and glad it helped! 🛠️
Also ensure the tire is mounted in the proper rotational direction. It's on the sidewall shown as the word rotation and with a directional arrow.
Thank you for the rotation tip, never realized there was one. Luckily I checked after installing a tube and got it right by luck.
I heard, if you put in on faced the wrong way, you'll have 10 years of bad luck, maybe longer.
Thanks for the concise video and not overcomplicating it. My 6 year old son blew out a tire skidding constsntly. Figured it will just continue to happen, so i should learn and teach him how to change it. Maybe it will make him stop skidding on purpose!
I've been changing my own bike tires and tubes for almost 55 years with not too many issues....until I started buying tires online and then had them mailed to me in the same box as yours came in. Now, a job that was once fairly simple and straightforward has become a nightmarish impossibility. I can't get that tire onto the rim because, unlike when you would buy a bike and then one day the tires go flat, you remove the old tire, put in a new or patched tube, and put the old tire back on. The old tire is already round, or formed along the edges, and goes on the rim with little problem. But the new tires, the one that come in a box, don't have that nice formed channel (the tire bead) that fits right over the rim....the tire edges, or bead, is all flattened out and I can't "form" that bead to fit over the rim, even after repeatedly "pinching it" like you showed. It's been a real nightmare, but it looks like you figured it out. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem?
You know the tires I bought were also in a box, and I just pulled them out and kind of stretched them out by hand, and that seemed to work OK for me. I did add that little bit of air too 1st, which helped give it shape. Thanks for watching!
My nightmare today. I filled up the inner tube in the new tire, then tried for 20 minutes to get the tire into the rim. I had to stop before I threw the rim across the garage in a rage. Looks like I'll try to put the inner tube on the rim first.
@@brainn3057 I know how you feel, friend. Did your tire come in a box, all folded up? I think this is where the problem comes in. And I haven’t figured out a way to overcome those impossible bends in the tire from being folded up in the box.
Fit one "bead" onto the rim first. Take care regarding tyre directional rotation and work on the non greasy side, that is away from the cassette. Then a little air into the tube, and fit it into position, as our Handyman says, keeping the valve straight in the hole in the rim. Then, starting from one point on the rim, work the remaining tyre bead into position with each hand working away from the other, keeping pressure on the tyre in both directions, the bead pulls down into the rim. By the time both hands meet again on the opposite side of the rim the remaining small section of bead will pop into place. It's hard to put into words, but it is a technique, once mastered it's like "riding a bike!" You'll never forget.
@@davidcollier1207 Thanks!
I love how he created this video - short, direct, and useful! The background music was perfect and none distracting to the content of the video!
Thank you - I have learned to change my tires with little tools and with less time!😃👏👏👏
Saved me a trip to the bike shop. I thought it would be hard and take special tools. Thanks so much.

Fantastic video! One watch and I'm gonna run to the shop to buy new tires (and inner tube). Had my mountain bike for 8 years, never replaced the tires. Just realized how bald they were last night after ripping through the forest. Thanks!
Well done. My problem is that I had too much air in the inner tube. Once I let a bit more out, it all came together nice and easy.
“Hope it helped”??? You a life saver!!!!
Glad it did help, thanks for watching!
Great tutorial. Already popped one of my tubes and had another and was scared I’d have to take it to the bike shop! Your technique worked like a charm.
I pulled out a 19-year-old Schwinn traveler bike. Trying to replace the tires was a task, until I saw your video. The first tire was still difficult but by the time I got to the second tire, it was easy. Thanks.
That's great glad it helped! 🚲
5yrs later this still a great how-to video. Thanks!
Thanks your quick short video helped my son and I work together changing his tire for the first time, with him doing the hands on work following your quick tips
Glad it helped, thanks for watching!
I got a 20” bike and just bought Goodyear’s inner tube and tires for it and now iam watching videos on how to put the tire and tube on right..looks like when I get back home I got 2 tires I gotta put together ..hope these videos help ..thanks for the upload
Update : I had no trouble at all putting new tires on...got the inner tube in ..lined it all up..and the tire just took form and held..thanks for the videos and information
You make it look so easy. Not even using tire levers. Nice.
You really make it easy! I had to use the handle of a spoon to pry into the rim and get the tire bead to set on the rim. Great video!
I never thought it will be this much easier to get it done thanks for the video
This method saved me man especially putting one side of the tire one by one thx so much 🙏🏾
@@BlackSupes Glad it helped, thanks for watching! 🛠️
Bought a bike on Amazon in a million pieces with bad directions. Thanks for this simple video. I think we can ride tomorrow
only 5 hundred miles on the e bike and already i needed to look up how to change a rear tire.... seems easy enough .... should be back in action soon ... thanks
Thanks man im 12 and this helped alot because i love riding my bike andlove doing tricks on it!
Thank you very much for helping me fix a bike that is definitely mine and not stolen
Thanks! This was perfectly helpful. Anyone ever told you that you sound like Chris Pratt?
Haha never heard that! Thanks for watching 🛠️
Nice video. With this information I can better manage my inner tubes and keep them fit for the road. Thanks
Also very important to make sure your ribbon is in good condition once you take that old inner tube off. It is a thin black band that sets under your tube; keeps the metal parts from popping holes in your tube.
Thanks Bro... it took a little longer than 5 minutes, but I got it done. Here's a tip... when you pump air into the inner tube prior to putting it on the rim, go ahead and check it for leaks. You don't want to find out after you've mounted the tire that you've got a brand new inner tube with a hole in it.
Great tip and glad it helped, thanks for watching! 🛠️
Thanks for the amazing support, I have been struggling to fit my inner tube😊😊, may be I'll succeed one day👍👍😊
I love the gloves like he’s cooking or giving someone a cavity search
Nice job!
I was thinking of upgrading my old Schwinn Mirada bike from the 1960s-1970s to whitewall tires since it’s a classic and I hope that now that I watched this video, that it’ll turn out nice enough.
Wow - glad I watched this video - just as described and made it easy - Thanks!😃
Good except for some of us who want to know how to remove the tire from the bike first. So you left out a step for changing tires for dummies 😂
The video provides what the title describes
I upgraded my tires with same size but seem to be swimming in the rim they don't pinch I had them sit out for a few about 10 months but seems like they're bigger? Any thoughts?
No way it’s this easy I’ve been avoiding it for such a long time
Any tips for me? Im having trouble keeping the inner tube in the rim while fitting the tire around the innertube. If i keep it reletivly un-inflated it just falls out but if i inflate it a little more it refuses to let the tire go around it
Is it also OK to place the inner tube inside the tire first, then insert the valve into the valve hole in the rim so that the inner tube is already inside the tire and it won't be difficult to mount it in the rim?
Thank you sir for this upload!!!
You bet, glad it helped!
Great video for beginners like me…thank you!
Great video! Nice and simple the way I like it!
Thanks. Haven't done this since I was a kid in the 80's
Thank you for doing this without tools.
Excellent idea putting the inflation information in line with the valve stem!
cool, i tended to do both sides at the same time and putting the tube in the tire first, will give this a go. I got a puncture on the road but there is a slight kink when the wheel spins faster so need to start again.
Great vid I have a question though, if My wheel rim says 26 x 2.125 do I buy a 26 X 2.125 tire and tube?
Cool I did not think of doing the tire one side at a time Thanks
Finally a video where you don’t need a “tire leever”
Thanks, this helped me and many others.
Glad it helped, thanks for watching! 🛠️
Great video thanks so much !!! You saved my marriage !!!
Haha that's awesome, glad it helped! 🛠️
Thanks man. I got it on because of you
Glad it helped, thanks for watching! 🛠️
Thanks, man. The special effects cracked me up
LOL I had fun on a 1-off editing software back when this one was made. 😁
My inner tube bigger than rim but have the right size for the tire and the rim came with the bike?
Did you figure this out. I’m having the same issues ?
Sometimes it appears to be too big until it's inflated and then it snugs up to the rim. 🛠️
Exactly what I need.! Imma change my bike tire today! Alone.!!!! Lesgooooooo
Thanks I had forgotten how since I had last changed my tires.
Mine seam to be glued to rim. Seems impossible to remove tire from wheel. Any suggestions.
Thanks for the video. I've got to do this for my bike.
Thanks I've been trying to get a new tire on to my bicycle and the rim just keeps coming out of sync with the tire
How did you put on a new stem? You didn't show that part. The stem for the tire tube I bought seems different than the one you have in the video. The stem I got is like this thin metal thing and you had to buy this other yellow colored adapter to make it look like the original stem. Did not inflate for some reason I wonder if that's a special type of tube, even though I bought it next to all the other brands I could have possibly bought and it was around the same price. I hate being learning disabled stuff like this looks way too easy then in real life
Much better than those overcomplicated 10 minute vids
I appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Lifesaver. Sweet and simple
Does it ride smooth on off roading trails
Thank you! This saved my husband from cursing in Bulgarian! Lol!
LOL glad it helped! 🛠️
dang....was really hoping i could find a way to mount some 26's i had lying around on my 27.5 wheel. but it looks like the sidewall of the tire is about a half inch too small. guess i'll have to pay an extra $70 for the correct size
YES! I changed my first flat on my electric bike! Good thing it was the front wheel!
I’m about to be super dad I’m going to fix my sons tire as soon as I’m done watching this lol
That's awesome thanks for watching! 🛠️
Great video! Keep it simple (“KISS” Principle)! Thanks!
Can I upgrade from a 26 x 1.7 to a 26 x 2.1 Tire?
Only question I have is what about sealant? When I take my bike to the shop they sometimes say it needs new sealant.
From my knowledge sealant is used primarily for tubeless setups.
@@TheEclecticHandyman Haha perfect timing. I just took my tire off and saw it is indeed tubeless system. Thank you
does this work on old tires?
How much do you inflate inner tube once the tire and tubes are in?
I check the tire for the PSI spec, fill it and use a guage to check. 🛠️
This helped, thanks!
Thank you thank you thank you, I made the mistake of putting too much air on the tube. 🚲
How do I know the size of my tire? I have a bike I wanna fix for my brother and idk if it needs a proper size
Take a flashlight out and have a look at the old tire. It should state the size on it and you can match to replace.
oh man, I'm pretty sure I have right size of tire but the last part is so tight I can't get it over the rim. I've been trying to find some tips and tricks how to get it done. I might carry the tire to a bike shop and let them pop in the last part.
5 mins for you, 5 hrs for me!
Life saver, thank you 🙏
Well done, thank you
LOOKS GREAT DIY SAVE
MONEY BEST UA-cam!
Pretty common sense.. was hoping to see how to take the tire off the bike too. Good vid tho broseph
So I’m, how do you get the rest of the air out of the tube? 😅
How did you take the air out
@@chriscomeau5056 There is a tiny needle in the center of the air valve on the tire. If you press it, thr air will come out of the tire.
i struggle on the last part, i will update you when i can do it
Oh faddle, the camera wasn't aimed right on the part he's showing how he got the old tire off the rim SO EASILY. However it's a big tire with knobby treads, easy to get hold of. Not so easy on the 1" rims though.
Nicely done.
Bicycle Tire Levers can also come in handy.
Thanks man!
Helpful without tool.
Great Video
Awesome, I subscribed and like this helped me
Glad it helped, thanks for watching!
Awesome bro thank you
Helpful and not intimidating, thanks
It helped a whole lot
Glad it helped!
I’m about to lose my damn mind. The inner tube I ordered seems to be too long - but I double checked the order and packaging, the length matches the factory tires, just like the length/size.
That would mean the wrong size tubes were installed for the last decade… but I’ve driven this bike so many times and kilometers, tubes being too long would’ve made the tyre wobbly wouldn’t it??

Just kidding. Your video helped. Now can you publish a video on how to replace a bicycle tire and tube in three minutes?
Kind of difficult putting the valve stem in the hole on the rim when the tire is the skinny one
Thank you!
