Fascinating to watch a true craftsman at work and to know that there are still people out there that can repair/re-build, rather than do what the majority of main dealers would do in just changing the whole unit for a new one. Thank you so much for putting this up Rob. 👍
The guy has the patients of a saint and his skill base is obvious. You are lucky to be able to call on your friends in the trade to carry out these tasks .What a great piece to camera and so informative. Keep The Faith London Paul.👍🇬🇧
Brilliant. After putting away horses and chickens at two locations, this was an interesting transition back to a brand of reality I seldom enjoy. Thanks so much.
A lesson to all young folk that you should study, watch and learn and become a true craftsman in a world where everything is a throw away replacement. By doing this Josh has saved the planet from a large piece of scrap! Thanks to Josh for taking time to film all this and to SRU for showing us and giving us a Sunday treat. Cheers, Bob
I raced BMWs for years and every three years the bearings in the gearbox would start to whine. They were originally filled with ATF, but if you used lightweight gear oil they lasted longer. Off to the breakers to source a used one. I tried to rebuild one once, but could never find a source for the bearings since ZF didn't sell them separately. I'm sure it would have been possible, but I didn't have the knowledge to source them. Watching this, he makes it look pretty easy, but imagine all the ways you could mess up during that job! Well done.
Here was I expected a video on possibly the camper van, but no yet another great video showing complete job thanks really appreciate it. Thanks again guys top content 👌
Hi rom durham Rob 👋👍 thanks for putting this one together Rob was really good to watch this process👍 but massive thanks to Josh and jr vehicle services for allowing the footage from all of us 👌 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon 👍👋
It's a sign of skill when someone can make a task look so easy and obvious. Josh and Chris would be an awesome duo for training up the next generation.
Great video rob and very interesting. This video has been up for 1 hour and has 54 comments already, please let’s have a video of you putting a vehicle up for sale on instagram and selling it, that would also get lots of views and a real conclusion to the project we have been watching being repaired. You know it makes sense rob come on 👍👍👍👍😊
That was a terrific video to watch Rob. I've done a few four speed RWD boxes myself, but they are nothing as complicated as this six speed! Kudos to Josh; he really knows his stuff!
Excellent video,, Josh is pretty knowledgeable like Chris and not afraid to talk us through the process,, hopefully more of these on different capacities in the future 👌,
Very interesting to see the whole process, glad he numbered them! Even on a job like this the old 'persuader' comes in handy. I know this is something he does regularly but well done to Josh for the explanation and filming which probably slowed down the process. Thanks Rob for the Sunday bonus. 👍👍
Very interesting to see this video Rob, Josh made it look easy taking it apart and rebuilding it over the years I’ve been watching yours and Chris’s channel it so varied and so true to real life thank you for sharing it all and I’m looking forward to many more videos.
I just took a Renault TL4 box apart (which seems to look identical) to replace 3rd and 4th gear synchros and fit a blackline LSD. Was good fun, first time I've done anything with a box other than remove to do clutch etc. Input shaft top nut was fun!
Bang on guys always good to see a video that you have kept up electronic sleeves for our pleasure, fascinating workmanship by Josh a true british engineer @ work big up to Josh for such detailed work, and once again Chris & Rob your the men :) :) :)
What a top bloke josh is. Very interesting to see the inside of the gear box build as I work on the industry of making gears selectors forks and everything else that goes into the gear box. Such a great guy josh is. Brilliant video guys 👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Rob "do you know what" Rob, at the start with the sofa shot I thought we were in for one of those dodgy videos😚!!! Very good Josh certainly knows is stuff well worth the view...Enjoy the rest of your weekend. 😎
Say what you like about mechanics they can get a bum deal from a few but there bloody clever people , there’s a lot mechanical knowledge going on here it’s far from a bolt on and off job ….hats of you dude a very interesting vid indeed thanks for sharing 👌👍
great video Rob,entertaining for us and also saved you money,as did your quickie on the Peugot coupe where you done a tensioner replacement and saved cost of new engine, this helped another channel man that I watch with his citroen and he gave you a mention (chops garage)
I've got a vivaro rob on a 57 plate and every now and again it anuissance to get into second but saying that it has covered 165,000 miles I drop the oil every 10 thousand on the engine and filter you know what mate I've had new transits and they have given me more grief than this one has I'll keep this until something major goes like before I part with it... Loved the footage here... keep it rolling mate! 👍
It seems that a thorough wash would be the first step- it's a lot easier to pressure wash the main housing and get all that road grit off when it's still one sealed up unit.
Fantastic to watch, thank you so much for this. Silly question but is it only bearings and seals that are replaced when a gearbox is reconned ? What's the situation if a synchro ring is damaged or a gear itself ? Can you buy those bits ?
Nice job Josh and interesting to see inside the gearbox. My Master reverse light has stopped working, the switch, lamp and wiring check out ok so I think whatever actuates the switch from inside the gearbox must be the issue, any advice would be appreciated as to a fix ? (All gears select fine)
Fascinating to watch a true craftsman at work and to know that there are still people out there that can repair/re-build, rather than do what the majority of main dealers would do in just changing the whole unit for a new one.
Thank you so much for putting this up Rob. 👍
anyone know if it worked after the repair
Young Josh is clearly a talented and knowledgeable young man.
Thanks for sorting out the vid and putting it up Rob.
Very enjoyable to watch.
A dying trade but so good to see a young lad with the knowledge and enthusiasm to strip out, repair, and importantly do it correctly
Good to see people like Josh still around, old school is best.
Top job Josh.
I know absolutely NOTHING about engines but I know a Masterclasss when I see one. Hats off to you young man!
Lovely video Rob that guy deserves a medal for his patience rebuilding that gearbox 100% legend 👏
Damn right that was a right Ol mission
The guy has the patients of a saint and his skill base is obvious. You are lucky to be able to call on your friends in the trade to carry out these tasks .What a great piece to camera and so informative. Keep The Faith London Paul.👍🇬🇧
Glad to see people who are prepared to refurbish and reuse items rather than throw away
Brilliant. After putting away horses and chickens at two locations, this was an interesting transition back to a brand of reality I seldom enjoy. Thanks so much.

Fascinating. Amazing how easy he makes it look, but I’m sure he’s had lots of practice. Enjoyed the video over my tea this morning.
my hat is off to a true mechanic....so clever and knows what hes doing how the hell he had time to write gavin and stacy is beyond me

There will always be a place for good engineers, very interesting, thanks Rob.
My Trafic gearbox has just gone kaput, dudes you are all legends, thanks very much.
Very interesting to see, what actually goes on in a modern gearbox assembly. Top job!
very very impressed with his work and his own made tools . A true problem solver .

Very satisfying when you've done a gearbox overhaul 👍🏻👍🏻
That is so therapeutic to watch. Makes me want to go and take a gearbox apart! Best not, eh?

Looking very chilled out on that sofa rob, only thing was that clip come flying through my window again in south wales 😀

Change the gearbox oil every other oil change. New oil will protect the bearings and might even help with 2nd gear
Appreciate you doing this Rob
Good job! I am surprised a torque wrench wasn’t used though, particularly on the reverse gear bolts.
wonderful video
Josh did a great job
Great vid..surely chris can rebuild a gearbox👨🔧👨🔧

I prefer rob and Chris videos not saying the lads not good but I came here for salvage rebuilds
It seems that a thorough wash would be the first step- it's a lot easier to pressure wash the main housing and get all that road grit off when it's still one sealed up unit.
What was the cause of the tight lever when you tried to refit the casing first time round?
Well that’s a laid back intro ….. #RelaxedRob
Thanks guys a good watch.
Really enjoyed this Video!
Would have been Better with a Little more Chris and a Little Less Rob 🤣🤣🤣
Talented fella.
Great video.
