  • Project Vinnie's gearbox was cover in oily stuff. It came from somewhere? Here's what we did to change the oil to find out where it is coming from.

      Thanks, no problems 😃. I don't know what the service interval should be? Some say it's lifetime, some 100k, others 30k. I would say it would be a good idea the change yours now, and then every few years (whatever you're comfortable with really). Good luck sorting it out and sorry I don't have a 'proper' answer.

  • @ItsWhatIDo
    @ItsWhatIDo 2 роки тому +1

    I have no idea why they have to make the gearboxes so different. Mine is a 57' and takes 2.7L in a 6 speed box. And you fill it to the level plug (which actually was 2.7L). Talk about confusing for people. To make it easier to fill I took the N/S wheel off and then removed the plastic access plate that forms part of the wheel arch out. Made it so much easier to refill. When ever I've done gearboxes on other vehicles the drain plug normally has a magnet on it to collect the metal filings. You didn't have that and neither did mine. I thought it was someone had replaced the drain plug with a standard one but looking at your video perhaps that isn't the case and weirdly they don't have one. Great little video though and was good for you to list the different quantities for the different boxes.

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks, yeah there's no need for them to be so different, probably just lifting boxes out of different parts bins. Someone on here said there is a magnet in the bottom of the box somewhere, not very good for inspection though. Like you said, why do it differently? Thanks for your comment 👌.
      Cheers Larcs 👍

  • @elbuggo
    @elbuggo Рік тому +3

    I'm reading that these gearboxes are also picky on correct oil type. I understand that some gearbox problems can be fixed by replacing the oil with the correct type. Problem with using something else than the specified one, is that if you get gearbox problems, you cant know if it is caused by wrong type of oil. If you fill it with the specified type, and have gearbox problems, at least you know it is not caused by the wrong type of oil. And it should also be less likely with the specified type of oil. Most substitute types are probably fine, BUT NOT ALL. How to know?

    With my vauxhall m32 gearbox there is the drain plug then the plug you used to fill the oil looks like the level check plug then the filler plug will be at the top of the gearbox (under the battery tray) it's alot easier and can overfill to 2.8 which the m32 likes due to the position of the top bearing

    So last week I needed to buy a van for work. I spent my remaining money on a van hoping to be able to carry on working and drove it from Liverpool to Huddersfield where it decided it didn't want to go into gear anymore. I bought it under the fact it had apparently had reconditioned gearbox. New clutch and new gear linkeges. I could see the linkeges were new so didn't doubt it but unfortunately this happened. Now I decided to drop the oil to see how metallic it was as its been grinding gears and all sorts. Removed plug and absolutely nothing came out of it 😭. So I put oil in. Over filled it then let the rest come out. And now it will not start whatsoever. Its a mk2 2004 renault master 2.5 dci with a 5 speed manual gearbox. Do you happen to know if they have any sensors in or on the gearbox that I may of fould. All my money has gone into this van and I desperately need it running. The master of this year and shape is my favourite of all vans and it's my 5th so I'm genuinely gutted and worried.

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  2 роки тому +1

      Wow, that's really bad luck🙄. I can't think of any sensors that would do that. Could it possibly be stuck in 2 gears at once? that would stop the engine turning over, have you tried starting it with the clutch down? or if there's a clutch problem, will the van rock/move with the clutch depressed? Or could be a dodgy starter motor? Good luck sorting it out🤞 and please keep us all updated.
