Have you gone mullet out of the box or 29 and will convert to mullet? Read a review that suggested the longer chainstay of the 29er with 27.5 rear was the best combo. Makes it that little bit slacker too
@@ritchiephillips5084 mullet out of the box, I currently have the older 27.5 spindrift. And first thing I noticed was how short the rear is.. makes it very poppy and nimble for such a long travel bike. So I'm hoping the new bike feels the same only with the larger front wheel for ploughing over stuff. If I lived somewhere with bigger mountains I could understand why people want longer slacker bikes, but where I live has a mix of techy and dh so I feel the spindrift is a great all-rounder. With the 190mm dual crown fork It should sit at 64° head angle.and I could always drop the stansions in the triple clamps if I want to raise the front end and make it slacker if I head to the Alps or something.(or put the 200mm air shaft back in)🤔
Good review! Considering that Propain also has the Tyee, I don't understand why they haven't went slacker with the Spindrift (63.5 would have been great. it's a 180/190 bike!). And yes, I struggle to understand what's in the mind of bike companies still using long ST...
@@Dini2kMTB Yeah, and what happens with the BB height and STA? Lets say the STA we can "ignore" for a bike which is not focused on climbing. I would go with putting a 29er front wheel on a 27.5 frame, as that would affect less the BB height, but anyway, these are workarounds.
@@dit4963 Propain is building 29er front and rear triangles and 27.5er front and rear triangles in every size. So if you order the Spindrift as a mullet bike you will get a bike with 29er front triangle paired with a 27.5er rear triangle. The front triangle has -23mm BB Offset and the rear triangle only has -10mm offset. Therefor the BB height relative to the ground will be exactly the same on a mullet and on an full 29er. That by the way also means that the mullet version is NOT slacker than the full 29er as seen on the geometry charts at Propain only the 190mm ZEB will have a slight effect.
@@Endurophin Yes, I know what you wrote. But not sure how is that related to the previous posts... Obviously a mullet coming from Propain is not the same with taking a 27.5 frame (front and rear triangle) and converting it to a mullet by putting a 29er fork and wheel in front, which is what I wrote.
@@dit4963 worked out that with the 190 zeb 29 frame wi 29 chainstay length with 27.5 wheel it only drops the bb by 4.5mm, so for bike park laps i think this is acceptable.
In fact: it wouldn't fit. I can definitely confirm that with regard to the 185 Bikeyoke Revive dropper on my L-size: Even if the seat tube was 2 cm longer, the minimum insertion depth would not change. For few of us with short legs the seat tube length of these bikes might be an issue, but for the vast majority, especially the ones using dropper posts longer than 15cm, imho it will not.
i find many reviews that dont explain the relationship between stem length and fork offset. "this bike handles really well" is all good, but things change from 44mm to 37mm fork offset, and 35 to 50mm stem length. what were you running? somewhat related, i have a hugene with a 150/42mm offset fork and a 40mm stem. i also have a Tyee with a 170/37mm offset fork, and a 35mm stem. the latter bike was done so that i have the most sensitive steering at very high speed. it's kinda twitchy on slow uphill sludges, but that's not the sole reason why i purchased it, anyway.
How is it for doubling rollers and popping off of rocks because I like riding big freeride stuff but I also like more mellow flowy stuff and I don't want to feel completely suspensioned out on that
9:24 I hear ya Kaz! Ze Germans can engineers a 180mm bike to pedal but can’t get a seat tube low enough. Seriously this is a real thing, most if not all the Euro brands have too long seat tubes. Don’t they like droppers posts over there? 150mm droppers are so 2018 that’s like in the monolith period in bicycle terms.
You also have to think the other way around. I have the 2018 version of the Spindrift. It has the same 460mm seat tube length. I am 1,84m tall and it fits me perfectly, yet my 160mm dropper post is pulled out nearly 100mm. Thats almost as much as is allowed for my post.
@@obi-wankenobi9871 no I think we’re on the same page mate. So from what your saying is that your XL frames seat tube is to short where as in SM, M, L are to long! Yep that’s bad engineering! Just to cement this point, my 11year olds XS Merida has a taller slammed seat height and standover than my M Ripmo!
Yes, this is a factor! At 5’10/178cm, and wanting to stick to using a OneUp 210 dropper, I don’t see many bikes giving this possibility, and neither Propain. It fits my YT 29(/79) Jeffsy and Capra bikes with about a cm to spare.
is it reasonable for me to want this bike? i don't know if i'll ever go to a bike park but where i live, there are some gnarly trails in my opinion. you have to pedal up 500 meters and on the descents i often wished, i had something more forgiving than my 140 mm trailbike. going down "whitout focussing to much on what's going on" is kind of what i want. would have gone for the tyee but that's not really available right now.
Every boomer always jokes about my dropper seat height when it's up lol. I always get that "Wow you have your seat way up high. That isn't too high?" XD
If the Propain rides as the video states, then it basically rides like a current-gen Intense Tracer. The suspension on this bike is nearly identical to the Enduro-flavor of Intense's current VPP-derived suspension geo, and it does not "barn door".
just got the 27.5 i am 6'1'' wear 32 inseam pants. I got a 180mm one up dropper, and its raised up about 1 inch from bottom and the stock saddle has high rails. i disagree with the seat tube being tall.
I'm confused on the dropper size, I ordered a spindrift few weeks back but without the dropper, propains charts says I need a 125 in a large frame as I have short legs. I've never owned a dropper so not sure if it would be too low for climbing
Man I'm really looking into this bike or to get Santa Cruz Nomad. I love them both, great looking but full with equipment. The front brake tube like that is really bad on the trail, you should route it correctly. Even if it is too short to be put on the right side, you can pass him inside the left brake tube or shifter/seatpost cable.
Really weird how that rear brake disc clearance passed through quality control like that. That's a fail, and having issues with something like that on a bike in this price range is just no bueno.
same man, if it wasn't for that, I'd probably get that bike. imagine having a little bend in your disc, you'd immediately have to change it because it would damage the frame.

I'm planning to buy another wheelset with a high engagement hub (maybe 102 or 120 teeth) for more aventure-like All Mountain/Enduro days.
Now (finally) my question: Did you encounter any noticeable pedal kickback on the Spindrift with the Hydra hub?
Thanx in advance and cheers from Germany!
✌🏻😎🤘🏻
spindrift an tyee, i just want one, in nz but not avail :(
Can't wait for the Spindrift to come to the US
That is one good looking rig!!
190mm fox 40 ordered for my new mullet spindrift.. going to be a beast of a bike👌
Likin the sound of that... what fork is it replacing out of interest did u try the 190 zeb??
@@Dini2kMTB I ordered it with the cheaper rockshox zeb 180mm as I think it would be the easiest fork to sell on.. never tried the zeb but I didn't get on with the longer travel lyric when I tried them.. been riding fox with a while now and I like the more linear feel of them. And more importantly it suits the black and orange colour scheme 😁
With the 190mm dual crown fork It should sit at 64° head angle.and I could always drop the stansions in the triple clamps if I want to raise the front end and make it slacker if I head to the Alps or something.(or put the 200mm air shaft back in)🤔
@@martincantwell2557 How about the Rotor clearance did you had any issues? Also how would you compere the tyee with the spindrift . thanks
Finally a review that's not in german
1:19 looks like the suspension is also a water bottle ejection device.
not every cage is compatible, the same on the old spindrift
I like to it better from 1:17 for full effect
Basically uses VPP but with different shock placement, no wonder the kinematics are killer
Sweet ride. Wish I could afford one.
Why don't we see Kaz riding in the videos?
Aside from that -- great reviews, thanks.
Good review! Considering that Propain also has the Tyee, I don't understand why they haven't went slacker with the Spindrift (63.5 would have been great. it's a 180/190 bike!). And yes, I struggle to understand what's in the mind of bike companies still using long ST...
190 forks n 27.5 wheel out back brings it to 63.1 degrees
We live in a world where 64.5 degrees isn't super slack 😂
Slack enough.
Unless you are rich drew
Do you think with a shorter seat tube length a longer dropper would even fit? It looks like it may end up too narrow lower down the seat tube.
Is it possible for you guys to get a 2021 Commencal Clash essential?
i find many reviews that dont explain the relationship between stem length and fork offset.
Such a nice bike 😍
awesome love these videos
How is it for doubling rollers and popping off of rocks because I like riding big freeride stuff but I also like more mellow flowy stuff and I don't want to feel completely suspensioned out on that
Great looking bike.
Lemme just say that I LOVE the look of this thing
Yeah it’s mint and I’m getting it hopefully :)
For other people reading this I know him lol I’m not just boasting
Hi awesome review and nice vid quality as well
Can we at least have some ideas on how did you shot this review, like camera settings and luts, tia!
That front brake cable floppin around tho
Do they plan to update Spindrift in near future, let's say '24? Like they recently updated Tyee?
5:47 levy’s seat height made my dad lmao 😂
Every boomer always jokes about my dropper seat height when it's up lol. I always get that "Wow you have your seat way up high. That isn't too high?" XD
Does it "barn door" at all, like an older vpp bike, I know that with the opposite rotating links that can be an issue.
What do you mean "barn door" ?
@@TeamCykelhold older santa cruz bikes tended to blow through the last 25-30% of the travel because of how the leverage used to be
@@lukesteele5013 Ah ok. Just never saw it referred to as barn door.
If the Propain rides as the video states, then it basically rides like a current-gen Intense Tracer. The suspension on this bike is nearly identical to the Enduro-flavor of Intense's current VPP-derived suspension geo, and it does not "barn door".
So 190mm on front bike be perfect maybe headset angle kit I feel same would like it 63.5
great review
just got the 27.5 i am 6'1'' wear 32 inseam pants. I got a 180mm one up dropper, and its raised up about 1 inch from bottom and the stock saddle has high rails. i disagree with the seat tube being tall.
We need a Spindrift vs Ransom :D
Do u think u would u be happy with the head angle with a 27.5 on the back...it is an order option?
I like the bike but I also hope I can win today’s advent calendar today
Whens the next pink bike academy 😌
1:15 😍
Are at the Boundry Bay Mountain Room?
What's up with the road shoes and SPD-SL pedals!?
5:52 you mean these? those are xc race shoes made by specialized
Those were used for the efficiency test - the pedals have a built in power meter.
Come on man
The dropper Post can't go any deeper if the seattube would be shorter
I'm confused on the dropper size, I ordered a spindrift few weeks back but without the dropper, propains charts says I need a 125 in a large frame as I have short legs. I've never owned a dropper so not sure if it would be too low for climbing
do a tyee review pls!
Man I'm really looking into this bike or to get Santa Cruz Nomad. I love them both, great looking but full with equipment. This bike costs in Germany around 5000€ (used with high end stuff) and Santa Cruz is hard to find around that price... The new one is 8500€ which is huge difference...
If someone has experience with those 2 bikes please let me know, because I'm getting one of them for next season.
Nimm doch das Alu Spindrift mit Rockshox Ultimate Fahrwerk. Hab meins letzte Woche bekommen undnes ist echt ein Bikeparkmonster! Das DH wird bald verkauft werden weils Spindrift so bombe ist 👌
Hello guys outhere. After more than a year ago I posted this comment. And want you all to let know how great this bike is. I bought custom build with great specs for less than 4000€. On my spec is Zeb ultimate with 190mm travel and its crazy good downhill. If anyone has more questions about it you can ask.
The front brake tube like that is really bad on the trail, you should route it correctly. Even if it is too short to be put on the right side, you can pass him inside the left brake tube or shifter/seatpost cable.
@Tyroo, so true, you can also order a different seat :D!
Oh, the seat hurt your tush?
Hi There. is the reviewed bike a 27,5 or a 29er? I am not sure... Thanks!
It's a 29er in size L I think...
You can just get a smaller rotor etc. That's propably caused by the fact that you can choose your own parts and therefore it gets close in some cases.
Test it man.
Hi, what would you recomment for 168 height? S or M? I will use it 80% for downhill
Thanks
Medium
S is also fine.
No se andar en bici, en esta se pueden poner ruedines para ir aprendiendo?
That front brake cable just barely avoiding the tire is hurting my eyes.
So glad im not the only one! It was giving me anxiety at 10.43!
Seems like an amazing bike, but what he said about the Rotor clearance made me cringe! Although on my current bike, it's pretty tight too.
I like the trek slash more

well you know nothing about suspension design then
I know this is a little late but, wouldn't the size M (450mm reach) be a better fit for Mike? Why oversize (not bashing just curious)?
I am 1.91M (6.2 ft no shoes on) and I ordered a size L spindrift (475mm). Will it feel too small? Should I return it and get XL?
If you don't have crazy long arms it should be perfect.
But will definitely be on the shorter side, propably very manouverable for you.
Does anyone know when it will be available in Canada, and the prices?
Which grips do you use on the bike in the video?
There's approximately 20% extra on all German bikes now, since Brexit you can add another £900 to a YT pro race in extra charges!
He uses the right brake lever for the front brake?
Normal in the UK and sometimes riders who are used to motorbikes will also do this.
@@robinclaidlaw I only know it from road bikes
Ooh I love floating shock designs , this design leaves space for a bottle too. Mine doesn't .
This verse Slash 9.9. Thoughts ?
God damn..I cant decide between nukeproof giga 290 factory and spindrift 29.
Help please!
Commencal clash review please
You should review the yeti arc
Maguras are really powerful, unfortunately they’re not durable at all. I had my levers break off multiple times already.
yea lol, my friend who claimed his maguras were better then his old Shimano's crashed once and broke them lol
@@lukesteele5013 Same. I mean there is nothing wrong mowing them as long as u don’t crash 😂
I'm beginning to think there's multiple Magura factories with different levels of tolerance in each. Some say they break instantly and others including myself have been running them for years without an issue. I've had the same pair of MT5s for four years and they still run like they're almost new
Are you guys leaving some play on your levers or doing them up rock hard? My MT7s have survived a fair bit of rough and tumble... but they rotate when i go down
@@ritchiephillips5084 they should rotate, otherwise they'll snap. Idk I've never had maguras but my friend had them, fell once and snapped the lever so
So we're starting to see bikes not going through 100% of the travel in the huck to flat "test".
THE LAST BIKE IS THE SANTA CRUZ NOMAD
Greetings from SoCal
I wish it was possible to get it in a downgraded economy version,, RS 35gold sram guide on the rear wheel GX drivetrain and a RS airshock like deluxe debon air...then it would be affordable
Cheapest version is around 3k.
