    Outstanding video! I just found it. For those watching this, I'm the guy who designed the saw he's holding. This is one of the best instructional videos about our saws I've seen. So yes, you can trust his info. One bit of insider knowledge: if you need to really crank the blade clamps down, the centers of the clamp knobs have holes. Hidden at the bottom of those holes are sockets for 5/64" allen wrenches. So if you need the clamps *really* tight, try cranking them down with an allen wrench. -Brian Meek, Knew Concepts.

      You made my day!
      I didn't know that about the allen key, I haven't needed if but it's good to know. Thank you!! And thank you for designing this saw!!

      @@BatCaveCreations The original truss frames were Lee Marshall's idea, I just re-engineered them to make them a whole lot stronger. But I'm glad so many people are using them to make great stuff. You shouldn't spend your time fighting your gear. That old saying about 'a good craftsperson never blames their tools?'. BS. Clearly said by someone who's never attempted brain surgery with a chainsaw. Sometimes, you really do need the *right* tool for a job.

      @KnewConcepts 10000% agree!! When I get frustrated with a tool, I mess up my project. Every. Single. Time.
      After so many mistakes, I learned lol
      And the sales peope at Handworks got me with the quote "it's the last fret saw you will ever need" which is very true!!

    One of the key causes of blade breakage is that you must make any directional change of cut during the actual cutting stroke and not during the non-cutting (withdrawal) stroke.

    Thank you!!! Finally an explanation on the Knew Concepts. I’ve been fighting it, breaking blades, slipping blades. Now I think I understand what I was doing wrong. I really appreciate your videos. Great content and very good explanations. :)

    I need a Fret saw where the blade is at right angles to the handle - is there such a modern Fret saw?
    I have my father's Fret saw (I'm 76) and both the handle end and far end rotate to 90, 180, and 370 degrees, but the blade has little pins through it and these are locked into slots in the handle and far end. Are such blades available?

    • @BatCaveCreations
      @BatCaveCreations  5 місяців тому

      Yes the Knew Knoncepts saw can have the blades turn to different degrees.
      For the blades you will want whats called Pinned Fret Sae Blades those will have the pins on the end of the blades. They also make Pinnless Fret Saw Blades so just make sure you look at the ends of the blades when searching.

    Hey, just bught a £40 fret saw off amazon and it's basically a copy of this. I've tried with like 5 blades now and without fail, every time, i end up snapping the flat part of the blade where the screws tighten over. I go really lightly on the screws but still it snaps. The problem is if I go too light then the blade pops out even on a low tension.
    I managed to get to a point where the saw was lightly fixed in place but there's so much give in the blade it's basically unusuable. I figure I must be doing something wrong but I'm not sure what. In all fairness the blades are thinner than the ones you're using but this shouldn't be happening every time.
    The blades im using are bought seperately, faithful brand. The ones that came with the saw fit in ok but are a weird type of blade. They're like twisted so the teath point out at all angles

    • @BatCaveCreations
      @BatCaveCreations  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey!
      The blades that came with the saw are called spiral blades, they have their place in the shop!
      For the blades braking, does the saw snap the spiral blade? If it does it could be an issue with the saw are there burs around the clamps or anything there? Not flat? Ect?

    • @nathanr6381
      @nathanr6381 7 місяців тому

      @@BatCaveCreations thanks for the reply! The spiral ones seem to be ok. I don't know if they are all like this but the spiral continues the full length of the blade so maybe that somehow makes it less likely to break when pressure is applied with the screws.
      I'm gonna do a bit more digging tomorrow, I'm UK time zone so it's midnight here haha. I'll update you on what I can see if that is ok? Thanks for the help anyway, usually rare to get replies on old videos with other channels lol

      @nathanr6381 ya, that is making me think there is something off about the clamps where the blades go in. Dive into it tomorrow and let me know! I'll help if I can! Get some sleep!!

      @@BatCaveCreations going to return it I think. Seems to be one side more prone to breaking the blades than the other so I'm not too sure. Going to probably save up for the one you're using. Starting woodworking this seems an all to common problem, buying cheaper stuff and being disappointed. Same thing happened with a band saw I bought but don't even get me started on that 🤣 I think when you're starting out you think cheap means it's entry level too but usually it just means you're gonna have to be even more experienced to counter all the problems you run into

    • @BatCaveCreations
      @BatCaveCreations  7 місяців тому +1

      @nathanr6381 I thought the same way! And then slowly upgraded all of my tools. I have different thinking now, buy the best you can afford because these will last your lifetime and beyond. At the same time, vintage is a good way to go too if you want to save some cash and put work into them. That's another trade off. Spend lots or spend little and put work in but don't go cheep (for most tools) hahaha

    This reminds me of the same lesson I learned using a scroll saw. DONT PUSH HARD! I went through so many scroll saw blades years ago by pushing my work, thinking it would cut faster. It just made my wallet emptier every time I had to buy more blades
