I mean at least on steam mordhau actually lost over half while chiv lost about half in the first month. I would imagine the epic players would likely fall off much quicker compared to new players as well as they have already played the game. If anything I would consider this a pretty damning indictment of mordhau as chiv 2 neither has the monopoly on melee slashers nor does it have the massive boost from major streamers playing it. The idea that 60% of players left in the first few weeks is not at all reflective of reality. The fact that crush is in your chiv 2 stream bashing the game rather than working on his own highlights the exact reason why I no longer play it 🤣
Didn't Mordhau drop from 60k concurrent to 10k in 2 months after release (83% drop), to 3k now? IDK I switched from Mordhau to Chiv2 and I never had issues finding matches even before steam release
@@NikolaevAlexander The peak player count was 60k, the average was 28, and it dropped by 55% in the first month, mordhau lost like 20k average players in the first month, 15k in the first 30 days of it being released.
Most/all games see big drops in players, its rare for a game to keep or increase in player numbers compared to the initial rush since people will typically play their new game hard for a while then if its good, mix it into their list of games they play every now and then.
What matters for a online game like Mordhau and Chiv is how good the devs are at pulling people back with update and balance/bug fixes. I didnt drop Mordhau because its a bad or boring game, I dropped it because the issues I had with it and the combat was never brought up as something to be fixed and apparently I choose the correct option since they are still not fixed. If I had kept playing that game from launch until now coping with the frustration from those issues I would likely be even more crazy than I already am.
@@TheHuffur This and I also believe melee slashers to be a fundamentally niche genre, it's hard to push through the learning curve. Most people have their casual fun, lose interest and move on. The remaining playerbase is small but willing to learn and keep playing. If a few thousand people play a slasher game during peak hours, the game is very healthy in my eyes.

I think something that a few people are missing with Chiv’s steam numbers is that over a million people own it on Epic (not sure how many own it on console but I imagine it’s a lot), and they crossplay with steam. So theoretically steam could have zero players and it wouldn’t mean chiv is a dead game. I look at chiv one for hope, as that still had full servers even right before chiv 2 came out so I think they’ll always be a dedicated group playing, similar to mordhau

@@januszpolak254 i never have issues finding full lobbies. Time I checked Mordhau's server listings they might have 2-3 Invasion servers full. Any more it's only just people fucking around on DM until the game officially closes its servers before too long

They're all busy shitposting instead of actually updating the damn game. Everyone in the Mordhau community was excited when Chivalry 2 got announced since we've hoped it'd actually make Mordhau updates come out faster. All we've gotten is two weapons, one of which is a complete mess in the meta and the other nearly useless, and I think one map. Chivalry 2 already has a whole new ass faction and the map designs are so much better.
The cope is unreal.
I am very excited for the new melee titles that are coming out and I hope the next few years really accelerate the genre forward with more people becoming interested. I wish all the development teams (not triternon) to have at least moderate success to fill their respective niche, but I am a bit worried about all of the competitive melee titles that are going for the same formula, I feel like some of them are going to collide and some of them are going to crash and burn.
I'm really hoping more "persistent world" games like Renown are going to be popping up.
I brainstormed with friends for ideas to use in an "MMO" made with the Mordhau SDK, but by the time the SDK got anywhere the game was dead beyond belief and wouldn't even be worth learning UE for.

Agreed, last patch was an absolute disaster and when I entered a public match to see the new map, my pc was having stutters left and right and when I finally spoke in chat and said this update was absolute garbage, not only because we get ANOTHER fucking invasion / frontline map, a mode that mordhau shouldn't be focused on, and fucking pay to get voices, I said "this update is absolute garbage and the devs that made this should be ashamed." And I got muted for 3 months in game. LOL So I uninstalled and never touching this baby's game.
Also remember console numbers aren't reflected at all. Which means the install base is nearly triple if not more than what's projected on Steam charts.
Honestly it's probably possible to do the math though it tells you whos a console player in the scoreboard of a match so you could probably find the overall percentage and find the number that way.

Crush actually funded every melee slasher that is being developed, so once they release crush will fuck it all over. That way mordhau can stay the best melee slasher.

Ok. I've heard for almost 3 years how bad Crush was (especially from Giru at the time) and it was funny at first (i.e. snorting cocaine and all that stuff) but I've never been presented on real factual reason why Crush is/has ruined Mordhau. I was in the impression the first time that I've heard of it that it was a meme (haha, Crush 👃Cocaine) but It seems like he is indeed problematic. Anyone has evidences of his incompetence? It's a genuine question, I am very curious.

guys... chivalry2 just looks and feel way better than mordhau drag & animation abuse (due to timed parry). for me the nosense combat system was a total failure in mordhau. chiv2 maybe its not perfect...but its way more credible, more fun, and a duel makes sense both visually and by its "feeling".
After playing mordhau for so long, chiv 2 feels so insanely clunky. I honestly dislike both games, but at least mordhau is smooth enough that you can actually do fun shit, despite the horrible animation abuse.
Chiv 2's combat feels like you're linking lego bricks together to form an attack chain, while Mordhau feels like you're waving around a ribbon and trying to kill your opponent via a dance battle.
The most fun I've had in Mordhau was chaining together different kinds of feints and morphs to embarrass my opponent as badly as possible before killing them. For example, getting somone to low HP, and then switching to a crossbow opens up tons of different opportunities for styling on them. You can jump and make them think you're gonna kick, they panic parry, then you shoot them. You can aim your crossbow, miss intentionally, and then kill them with a kick when they try to punish. You can miss, use the reload animation to duck under their attack, then cancel and kick them while they're recovering to finish them. All kinds of goofy shit with all kinds of weapons.
In chiv 2, that doesn't really exist outside of just chucking random interactable objects at your opponent.

I've honestly been like out of the loop with Mordhau development, I thought that the player decrease was just normal since people will play something else as the time goes on. What's been happening?
Yes, it is normal. Though you could argue that the game would have much more players if it's development had been better handled. Updates are far and few between and are generally rather lackluster (basically a map and a handful of cosmetics is the most you can hope for).
Then there's a whole other debate regarding the combat, some like it, some hate it, some want specific tweaks. Stouty has some very strong opinions on the combat and how it should be improved/changed, and Crush as Mordhau's combat designed has his own equally strong opinions. The exchange jabs at each other regarding this conflict in opinions and philosophy regarding combat design and the genre as a whole.
Crush is always running at 100%.
Crush also has a content cycle, just wait till mobius drops and he gets touchy all over again rofl

But it certaintly is very underwhelming compared to what you and others said.
This feels like OW vs TF2 all over again.
With OW being heralded as the TF2 killer, while ending up falling off far more quickly and hard while TF2 stayed consistent, even if it is not the bigger game.

@@Stouty Well, Mordhaus daily players has normalized again and reached standard peak hours.
Thing is also, I find chiv 2 aight and I don't even view it as a competition to Mordhau.
Not only cuz chiv 2s "coming out on top" is such a small margin that it doesn't even really matter. At launch sure. but those low 2 digit margins are *just* within the fluctation margin that Mordhau will naturally sometimes surpass chiv 2, even if it is just for mere hours.
In the end I am happy that Mordhau survived this. Because I enjoy it's combat and skill ceilling more. However I do not blame anyone for liking chiv 2 alot more. It def has better and more epic team fights.
I think that's a good way to look at chiv 2, it's a fun game, but not something I'd plan on playing for more than a few hundred hours. The devs are communicating and showing what they are going to add.
Mordhau had the potential to be a masterpiece. It's such a good game but the devs just sat on their asses and watched it crumble to where it is today.

But these days I fight people who can feint a failed parry and correct it into the right parry, nothing tooo impressive, but 'back in the day' the most complex thing i saw an enemy do was feint into thrust

He is saying all of this but Chivalry 2 has several platforms its on and personally it from what i've witnessed of all the games (CMW, Mord, Chiv 2) has the best chance for beginners to actually be able to get kills and build confidence and hopefully become skilled players.

I was new to the genre when chiv2 launched. It was the most fun game I've played in ages. The TB devs kinda suck the game is still full of bugs and it takes them months to fix major problems in the game but for the most part I still enjoy it on a daily basis. I really wish the patches and new content would come faster tho. As someone who was new to the genre a year ago I've never played mordhau and everytime I watch clips of it and debate buying it I just cant pull the trigger cuz the game atleast to me looks really cartoony, unrealistic and lacking immersion.

As a casual i feel like you should listen to the pros who dedicate themselves to the craft and as a dev they are pretty much free criticism for your game which is HUGE most AAA pay for that shit and they hate it.
