So I just picked up this game (found it as a winner of a video game award) and I have to say it is unbelievable. I've never been into a "rogue lite" but this game has it all. Tons of NPCs and progression, so many options and such complexity... Amazing graphics and sound, and the gameplay is *tight* .. It's no exaggeration to say that this could be in my top 10 all time games after I get more playing time in. The only problem is, it's so addicting that my kids can't get on the Switch anymore!

Tidal dash is my number one for sure, I see why so many people like divine dash so much but I prefer my attacks to do the deflecting cuz I'm much more likely to be spamming that button lmao
Athena dash gives you extra invulnerable frames (i-frames). So you can whack your enemies one more time before dashing away. Also, it activates merciful end if you’ve got an Ares doom effect in your build. That’s why it edges out tidal dash. The deflect of ranged projectiles is, as you imply, for noobs. But did you know you can deflect melee damage as well? Makes Hades almost trivial if you can get the timing down.
Keep the guides coming, man! I’d love more of these 5-10 minute videos for guides. I like watching your full runs to learn too, but sometimes it’s a lot to commit to lol. Haven’t played this game in a while, but I’d still enjoy the guides for future playthroughs. Keep it up, man!
Poseidon's dash is just too much fun. Smashing fools into walls with the rupture, watery smash and increased wall damage lets you trivialize the Temple of Styx encounters. If you luck into the epic or even heroic extra dash and, sea storm and the double knockback boon and it is like you are the fury of the sea pounding enemies into submission with the terrifying might of the ocean.
I like Hermes' sturdy sprint because It allows you to get out of the way of allowing fast enemies like the Chariots, or Satyr spit, and fast attacks from bosses ( mainly Asterias and Hades) for that reason Hermes is one of if not the best IMO
In my own playstyle I would probably switch Poseidon and Zeus. I'll typically go after the double-strike / jolted combo with the dash so it end of being super effective most times, especially with some bonus Hermes dashes. Poseidon ends up bothering me more than anything because, depending on the weapon, I've now scattered enemies and must hunt them down.
I think I agree with your ranking. But I'd also caution new players from becoming too reliant on Athena dash. It can cause you to learn some bad habits around your dash that are much harder to then unlearn. Mainly relating to effective use of dash s.

Great guide, love these shorts... actually put a lot of the dashes into perspective and even thinking about possible builds that some dashes could be useful... I do personally like the Ares dash, have had some nice runs with it.. mainly melee runs.. when it's sup'ed up with boons that pulls foes in and wider area.. can do some epic tick damage.... Keep them coming.. can you do special's next?..

I'd probably rate the demeter dash a little lower (1 slot give or take) it falls in the same niche with Zeus and furthermore it has abysmal damage. Chilled is nice and all, but there are so many other ways to apply it a dash towards an enemy is usually bad for ranged builds when chill is an effective kiting tool for peskier fights like the Elysian boss fights or Hades himself. While Zeus needs jolted and a few other duo boons to make it stronger, it is the catalyst for a lot of duo boons which for me makes it a lot better.
I might put demeter and aphrodite lower because you'll typically be putting their boons on your attack or special, and to have it additionally on your dash negates the status effect benefit, without which both are useless. my point is, those dashes are only useful if you don't get the status effect from another source.
Yeah this is pretty accurate. I feel like context is also important, like Artemis dash is much worse if you have specific weapons equipped. Keep up the good work with your cool videos.

Does Athena's dash actually grant additional i-frames? I see that being parroted a lot, but isn't it just that deflect nullifies attack hitboxes? When you deflect an attack, whether it's melee or ranged, the attack can no longer hit Zagreus, even if the dash ends inside the attack (unless the attack has multiple hitboxes like Asterius' EM3 spin), but I don't think the dash is actually invincible for any more or less time than a regular dash. Athena's dash does, however, give deflect to dash attacks which normally have no invincibility, thus enabling extreme aggression with dash attacks. Also, no one ever seems to mention that the dash does pretty good damage sometimes -- have you seen the chunk that you do to the hidden boss's health bar when you deflect his melee attacks?
Lol Drunken dash is my favourite in my play style. I find it extremely useful against the small enemies with low HP (witches, spirits, and small mice). The damage is basically set and forget for me.
Never knew Poseidon dash was so good. Might have to check it out some more. And Athena Dash is my most used Athena boon. Athena might be one of my least utilized gods, but dash boon might be one of my most used boons. Its so good Ive actually tried to use it less because it feels like a crutch sometimes.
Cool video idea, I'd love to see more! Athena's dash also works great for adding Exposed for privlaged status, or just dashing through an enemy for backstabs. My biggest Damage number so far was my Aspect of Arthur Tank build, using backstabs.
Dood the Ares rifts can absolutely WRECK if boosted up properly. Adding some extra damage and getting larger rift effect area, these can clear a room just by themselves. Add in a dual-boon from Granny or Artemis and they are VERY powerful. Easily my top choice.
My first ever successful escape was with Aphrodites dash. I didn't care about any numbers whatsoever, but I looked so freaking fabulous that I loved it lmao :D
In one of my runs i got Poseidon dash to heroic and got +3 dashes from Hermes. God that was a run run. Completely stopped attacking despite playing with Aspect of Hera on my bow.
I just started playing hades last week I have finished upto heat 6 ( 7 runs in total ) and i think Demeter dash is much much better then any other dash effects . Chill is the best status in game for me and I get confidence when I find her dash . ( I usually start with Aries/Artemis/dynasis keepsake for doom/crit or hangover , then I change to Demeter in asphodel and then to zeus for Elysium ( to fish for his cast or to have his dash along with some other dash ) I found poseidon dash to be useless as it just makes it dificult for me to reach the witches and whatnot in asphodel . I really appreciate your videos though ... ☺️
Pretty on point but I think 3rd for aphrodite on dashes is a bit overblown, there are usually better ways to apply weak than waste it on a dash but honestly, all dashes below the first 2 aren't even close tbh and are only justifiable in specific builds.
I think this tier list was spot on. The only big thing I disagree with is Demeter. I find that the way the dash effect is shot it is hard to hit enemies enough to get the chill to a helpful stack, it doesn't work very well when you have a Demeter setup. I think that if I had made a tier list Poseidon would be number 1, although that is mostly me thinking of all the silly runs when I mashed dash on Hades to win. Athena was certainly the better choice for number 1.
Would have to put Arty dash above Aphro here in 3rd, just cause the damage increase is so good. My first 32 heat clear was with Hades spear, Demeter attack, Arty dash along with serrated point (and Heart Rend, 2 chaos dash strikes, epic PP, etc.). I was having so much trouble getting through 32 heat with literally every other weapon but the spear. My first 32 heat try with it and I demolished EM4 Hades. Wouldn't have done it without Arty dash.
1. Athena 2. Ares 3. Dionysius (love the curse, prefer other curses on my attack and special so) 4. Poseidon 5. Demeter 6. Aphrodite 7. Zeus 8. Artemis
Honestly I would put Ares at the bottom. Looking at how much damage a dash does is not very useful as a measurement, because out of all the possible damage sources it is always the weakest one, so the versatility factor is much more important. Especially when it comes to trigger “privilege status”, which is a ton of free damage if you can passively spread a second curse with dashes. Which is why I would put Ares at the bottom, since besides bad damage it doesn’t do anything. Then Artemis, because while it can be very good, it is very limited to specific weapons and set ups. Zeus is third last because it needs another boon to curse but has the weird utility to trigger specific duo boons and tier 2 boons at once, which is a build around. Dio and Demeter share the spot because they can easily put a curse on something, even if the snowball is very clunky to aim at times. Aphrodite has the easiest curse to spread, combos well with many duo boons and has a really good tier 2 boon that makes weak enemies take even more damage. Poseidon, which is always good unless you are going for a close range build with its crowd control and damage potential in mobbing areas. And finally Athena, which with the added I-frames is always very useful and safe, unless you want to set up a specific build.
Might’ve been nice to note that Athena and Poseidon dashes can easily apply curses with on additional boon each. This guide makes it seem like you might be missing out on privileged status by choosing those two
I guess same for Zeus. However, while that's a good trait, the dashes that naturally have curses (Aphrodite, Demeter, Dionysus) have an edge by virtue of being able to just throw them on to try to get Privileged Status easier. Poseidon, Zeus, and Athena require more investment to get curses with them.
Tbh i have a soft spot for Zeus's dash because it's how I beat Hades the first time. I hardly even touched him with my weapon, i just dashed around him and threw blade rifts when i had a chance, i dont remember if i even had a Call. It was so cheesy and hilarious to me
is it really a proven fact that Athena's dash makes you avoid more damage than regular dashing, which, if I'm not mistaken, also makes you phase through attacks with complete immunity to damage? without damage avoidance, the reflected damage is rather underwhelming, considering the damage enemies deal to the player is about 1/10 of what the player deals back. for example when Asterius dashes into you at full force he deals a whopping 35!! damage.
I would say weakest to strongest is: dio, artemis, demeter, aphro, ares, zues, athena, poseidon. I think athena dash is helpful early on with levels 1 and 2, but the other top dashes are better for hades
Basically Divine Dash is the go-to for any none niche normal builds = 90% of the builds best just take divine dash unless you're going for duo boon / privilege status.
Idk man as someone with around 10 40 heat runs under my belt I will literally always take Divine Dash over pretty much everything unless…the build really requires a specific dash to create a broken interaction, Divine Dash is good with every build, every weapon, and is simply incredible. I agree with the top post of this comment chain that 8.5 is a little weird for easily the best Dash in the game.
What I have to say? It's clear that the devs intended Poseidon and Athena to be far better than other dash BY FAR, with Artemis being a niche consideration on dash attack builds, Aprodite, Demeter and Ares being mostly a consolation price if you do not find athena or Poseidon, and both zeus and Dionisus not even being worth the usage. S-tier: Poseidon and Athena A-tier: Nothing B-tier: Artemis, Ares, Demeter, Aprodite C-tier: Zeus D-tier: Dionisus
@@JawlessPaul Still really situational, and with that logic you could also use Poseidon + Zeus dual boon. Good enough point to deserve a C tier though.
S: Athena (nothing even comes close to that utility) A: Aphrodite (dashing in range of enemies and making them deal less damage never not helps) Poseidon (huge AOE damage, not S because it can be annoying to chase enemies that it doesn't kill) B: Artemis (underwhelming if you don't use dash attacks with your weapon, great if you do, so it's in the middle) C: Zeus (man I wish it wasn't nerfed so many times, still the best out of the 3 AOE damage dashes though) Demeter (there's so many more good ways to inflict chill, it's the best status effect though) D: Ares & Dionysus (same shit - underwhelming damage, small area of effect, take literally everything else over it) Edited to make it clearer.
Attack and special might be weird because those tend to be really context-sensitive based on your weapon. Zeus is pretty great on rail attack and pretty terrible on, say, Bow attack, for example. Cast and call still have some context to them (Lucifer rail + Athena call, for example), but they'd probably be easier to rank definitively.
Hermes is his own category. Think of him as a hammer upgrade. He technically modifies the dash in your example, but it's not a dash boon, just a hermes boon. It will stack with the boons in the video.
And Poseidon's dash as well. Both are amazing on their own right (Great offense vs Great defense) and you cannot go wrong when picking it. Poseidon doesn't synergy that well with twin fists so makes sense so put Athena over Poseidon.
The deflect seems to last a little longer than standard i-frames, at least in my hands. He may have meant that, but I personally haven't seen any frame data that supports it.

Wow I was close! I definitely didn't keep in mind that Jolted makes the Zues dash way better. Poseidon dash obviously works well leading up to Lernie and dealing with the vermin leading up to Hades. But I'll you this! Make a Zeus only build with the Zeus aspect on the shield, and you will rip through the whole run without taking any damage.
That game could have been sooo much better, such a huge potential but they fucked up the end. to boring, to short, to repetitive not enough weapons or boons, there are only 4 viable builds for end game and there is no reason playing on high heat because there is nothing to get from it. Also the creators of the game already washing their hand from the game telling it will not get more updates of new areas and monsters, bhaaa 100 hours and game is dead. not how roguelike should be.
The game never claimed to be a roguelike. Everyone else did. I’ve got 100+ hours and I’m still discovering plenty of cool builds to try. Finally, 100 hours for a $25 game is a pretty damn good deal if you ask me.

You should've mentioned Athena's dash being an activator for merciful end. That had to have played a role in it being number 1.
Merciful end was heavily nerfed and the dash doesnt work with it anymore

Yep, a lot of people believe that deflects returns damage only on ranged attacks - I guess they don't really pay a lot of attention...

Honestly I would put Ares at the bottom.
Looking at how much damage a dash does is not very useful as a measurement, because out of all the possible damage sources it is always the weakest one, so the versatility factor is much more important.
Especially when it comes to trigger “privilege status”, which is a ton of free damage if you can passively spread a second curse with dashes.
Which is why I would put Ares at the bottom, since besides bad damage it doesn’t do anything. Then Artemis, because while it can be very good, it is very limited to specific weapons and set ups. Zeus is third last because it needs another boon to curse but has the weird utility to trigger specific duo boons and tier 2 boons at once, which is a build around. Dio and Demeter share the spot because they can easily put a curse on something, even if the snowball is very clunky to aim at times. Aphrodite has the easiest curse to spread, combos well with many duo boons and has a really good tier 2 boon that makes weak enemies take even more damage. Poseidon, which is always good unless you are going for a close range build with its crowd control and damage potential in mobbing areas. And finally Athena, which with the added I-frames is always very useful and safe, unless you want to set up a specific build.
Blade, Divine, and Drunken dash those are my top dashes
There really needs to be a secondary boon that buffs dio dash. Like every tick adds +2 poison damage. Like the one for bladerifts
Yeah, there are some that buff damage with poison, but the poms do a pretty good job of boosting the raw damage

How does the dash strike effects work if you are using projectile weapons?
Might’ve been nice to note that Athena and Poseidon dashes can easily apply curses with on additional boon each. This guide makes it seem like you might be missing out on privileged status by choosing those two
I guess same for Zeus. However, while that's a good trait, the dashes that naturally have curses (Aphrodite, Demeter, Dionysus) have an edge by virtue of being able to just throw them on to try to get Privileged Status easier. Poseidon, Zeus, and Athena require more investment to get curses with them.
Tbh i have a soft spot for Zeus's dash because it's how I beat Hades the first time. I hardly even touched him with my weapon, i just dashed around him and threw blade rifts when i had a chance, i dont remember if i even had a Call. It was so cheesy and hilarious to me

is it really a proven fact that Athena's dash makes you avoid more damage than regular dashing, which, if I'm not mistaken, also makes you phase through attacks with complete immunity to damage?
without damage avoidance, the reflected damage is rather underwhelming, considering the damage enemies deal to the player is about 1/10 of what the player deals back. for example when Asterius dashes into you at full force he deals a whopping 35!! damage.
I would say weakest to strongest is: dio, artemis, demeter, aphro, ares, zues, athena, poseidon. I think athena dash is helpful early on with levels 1 and 2, but the other top dashes are better for hades
For raw damage poseidon is best, but the mitigatioin with athena is so incredible. Dashing is a defensive as well as offensive move
Why did you leave out Hermes dash?
Hermes dash isn't mutually exclusive with the others so no real need to compare.

Basically Divine Dash is the go-to for any none niche normal builds = 90% of the builds best just take divine dash unless you're going for duo boon / privilege status.
Splash dash can go there too if your goal is just to go faster

Idk man as someone with around 10 40 heat runs under my belt I will literally always take Divine Dash over pretty much everything unless…the build really requires a specific dash to create a broken interaction, Divine Dash is good with every build, every weapon, and is simply incredible. I agree with the top post of this comment chain that 8.5 is a little weird for easily the best Dash in the game.

What I have to say? It's clear that the devs intended Poseidon and Athena to be far better than other dash BY FAR, with Artemis being a niche consideration on dash attack builds, Aprodite, Demeter and Ares being mostly a consolation price if you do not find athena or Poseidon, and both zeus and Dionisus not even being worth the usage.
S-tier: Poseidon and Athena
A-tier: Nothing
B-tier: Artemis, Ares, Demeter, Aprodite
C-tier: Zeus
D-tier: Dionisus
Zeus isn't bad if you get jolted. Starts to do a LOT of damage.
@@JawlessPaul Still really situational, and with that logic you could also use Poseidon + Zeus dual boon. Good enough point to deserve a C tier though.
The AthenaAres Merciful End combo is pretty busted too.

S: Athena (nothing even comes close to that utility)
A: Aphrodite (dashing in range of enemies and making them deal less damage never not helps)
Poseidon (huge AOE damage, not S because it can be annoying to chase enemies that it doesn't kill)
B: Artemis (underwhelming if you don't use dash attacks with your weapon, great if you do, so it's in the middle)
C: Zeus (man I wish it wasn't nerfed so many times, still the best out of the 3 AOE damage dashes though)
Demeter (there's so many more good ways to inflict chill, it's the best status effect though)
D: Ares & Dionysus (same shit - underwhelming damage, small area of effect, take literally everything else over it)

The reason the athena dash is good as a mitigation tool is because you can cancel everything with dash. I dont think you mentioned that.

Attack and special might be weird because those tend to be really context-sensitive based on your weapon. Zeus is pretty great on rail attack and pretty terrible on, say, Bow attack, for example. Cast and call still have some context to them (Lucifer rail + Athena call, for example), but they'd probably be easier to rank definitively.

Hermes is not an olympian god.
Hermes is his own category. Think of him as a hammer upgrade. He technically modifies the dash in your example, but it's not a dash boon, just a hermes boon. It will stack with the boons in the video.

And Poseidon's dash as well. Both are amazing on their own right (Great offense vs Great defense) and you cannot go wrong when picking it. Poseidon doesn't synergy that well with twin fists so makes sense so put Athena over Poseidon.

The deflect seems to last a little longer than standard i-frames, at least in my hands. He may have meant that, but I personally haven't seen any frame data that supports it.

No because if that were the case then aphrodite would have been #1 or 2. Athens dash is a combination of damage and mitigation.

Wow I was close! I definitely didn't keep in mind that Jolted makes the Zues dash way better. Poseidon dash obviously works well leading up to Lernie and dealing with the vermin leading up to Hades. But I'll you this! Make a Zeus only build with the Zeus aspect on the shield, and you will rip through the whole run without taking any damage.

That game could have been sooo much better, such a huge potential but they fucked up the end. to boring, to short, to repetitive not enough weapons or boons, there are only 4 viable builds for end game and there is no reason playing on high heat because there is nothing to get from it. Also the creators of the game already washing their hand from the game telling it will not get more updates of new areas and monsters, bhaaa 100 hours and game is dead. not how roguelike should be.
The game never claimed to be a roguelike. Everyone else did. I’ve got 100+ hours and I’m still discovering plenty of cool builds to try. Finally, 100 hours for a $25 game is a pretty damn good deal if you ask me.
