This episode I start a new series that will focus on modular dungeon tile traps that integrate perfectly with my basic dungeon tile terrain. The first episode in this series focuses on the foundation for building the traps, and the simplest pit trap, filled with gross water, plant life, and debris.

Omg it's the legend themselves!
"This lives in a world where a eyeball beast shoots lasers out of its eyes, so don't get to stuck on realism." Perfect. LMAO
I was thinking, yes those plants can live without light they get what they need from consuming living things, You're being attacked!
There actually are some plants that live in low to no light. Mostly fungi but some others such as mosses can do the same. So even in the real world setting if you found the right plant names for that one nitpicky player plans in a 10 ft pit are totally explainable.
That is the CUTEST table saw EVER! Can you use it in your builds more...? Just seeing it being used gives me great joy.
Wow!!! I really like those and they don't even have to be a trap. They also look like a old small bathing tub that has been abandoned and now are a slimy pole
Yea, I always try to make stuff that can be used for multiple things later, even if I havn't thought of what when I make em.
I thought swamp personally, like radioactive hillbilly type swamps, just need spooky willow trees and mutant crocadilians
I love how you set up a mock scene and record it from the view of a mini to demonstrate your project after it's done. Awesome.
Are we just gonna ignore that he has a legitimately good Admiral Ackbar impression?
A ballista could be multifunctional as a trap or feature. A drop down cage would as double as trap and feature. If you did a scything blade I could see two ways 1) cut a grove into a pillar and stick a platic butterknife it it with extra sticking out to lever 2) stick those steam punk gears into a floor tile like saw blades. Magic symbol tile with etched pattern filled with blood or silver (glitter or paint). Eastern Island head that could shoot whatever darts, fire, etc. Razorvine squares. Indian jones style rolling stone of death. Snake pit/swarm tile. Spiderweb between two pillars (halloween is around the corner). A rubble tile that also represents the aftermath of falling rocks or ceiling. Palisade stake wall that can be place on other tiles.
Thanks for the ideas!
Randall Goeth No sorry Indian Jones is a different guy all together!
Lol, I love all your warnings! Am I comfortable using table saws, yes. Will my husband, brother or father let me, no. Lol. I save the effort and just tell them what I need, besides it shows some of them at least one small step I go through for all the figures they enjoy so much.
I’m late to the party but enjoying the channel! I built a couple traps and found a formica-work around that’s much easier to cut. I used the lids from ice cream buckets. Cheers!
I really like that these features just add another dimension to tactics on the game board.
Like you mentioned, players can use these terrain features to hinder foes and vice versa.
One of my favorite gaming memories involved a pair of dwarf brothers forever known as the Dragon Pushers, because that's exactly what they did - they pushed a flightless dragon off a very high place and managed to kill it.
I've even played a character who pulled a 300 and booted a foe into an open pit, where it was much easier to negotiate while the rest of the party stood around with missile weapons and spears to keep the foe from climbing out.
I too have pulled the 300 move! It's super fun!
I love these, I'm definitely going try to work these into my tiles. Another alternative to Formica would be what the Professor on Dungeon Craft uses. 1' x 1' vinyl floor tiles or laminate floor tiles that you can get as free samples from hardware stores. You can cut them with a craft knife and they come with adhesive on one side.
MikeyB &
Love this, building one for my terrain library, love all your terrain you build!!!
Love the idea of formica. Been racking my brain for a good base for the tiles that was that thin. Brilliant!
I used an old Fiskar self healing cutting mat . I cut 3 x 3. It was about 1/8 inch thick, and I cut it using a straight edge and a razor knife. It was 6 inches across( edge to edge) and 18 inches long. It felt a little flimsy, but by the time it was painted, detailed, and epoxy top coated, it was what I needed.
Love the trap and love the tiles! I’ve been watching your videos and learned so much. Now I’m curious about this game playing!
Ordered my proxxon table from your Amazon affiliate store. Glad to support you and your channel. Thanks for the great vids!
I really like the concept of the flat trap tiles...as the party is trying to figure out how to get the victim out, I can see a few tentacles springing up to make there choice more urgent...thanks for the vid, buddy....always enjoy what you share...thanks for all the effort you put into your vids...Jim
Now I want to make a trap tile with tentacles.....that would look awesome.
This is an amazing solution I never would have thought of. It REALLY looks like it has a lot more depth to it. I could even see sticking down the trimmed tips of toothpicks or bbq skewers as spikes poking out of the water. Gross AND ouch!
Quick question. I don't have a table saw, not even an adorable tiny one, but I do have access to copious amounts of scrap Formica and a good rotary tool. I've never worked with Formica and have no idea of its tolerances, but you have a great grasp of its properties. So, Formica + rotary tool cutting disc. Worth a try, or bad idea? I'd just as soon avoid flying chips and shattered discs flying everywhere. I have safety goggles, but I also like not finding random tiny sharp things with my feet.
The VERY NEXT video in queue was spike trap. I'm so satisfied.
Wow!! I wasn't really impressed until I saw it on the table. Great job.
That is the cutest little table saw. I wish I had a use for one!
I know right?
Yes! Awesome video, this trap series will be a lot of fun. Red paint in the same tile and you could make a lava trap. I just made some bear traps for my outdoor terrain. I love traps. I got a ton of mileage of a simple boulder i made. You can use it so many different ways. It's all about the trap mechanics. Just think...What would Hankerin do?
The simplest terrain often gets the most use since its so non specific it can stand it for lots of stuff.
I was waiting for you to say shrubbery... Ni! :-D
I just watched your trap tile for your D and D games. Since you have Hero Forge now as well order a skeleton from there they have 1 pose where its laying down playing dead. Have a tile that is open at the beginning of the dungeon.
Very late comment but I bought this saw a few weeks ago before I saw the video and can say it is a great little tool to have!
Great swamp tiles if you don't think traps work.
If you wanted to do a hidden pitfall block where the top can be removed and still look like any other tile there's a few different ways. The best way is to make a "box". Use the same stuff as you did for the bottom and make some sides with the same stuff, just make it shorter then the full height as your normal tiles, you can make a lid with just XPF or use another piece of that stuff that either fits in the the open space or covers the whole top, then glue a piece that makes up the rest of the thickness of the tile to that. Decorate it as normal and paint and there you go an invisible pitfall trap.
Would LOVE one of those saws for y D&D Makers shop here in Australia but the thing cost about $730 from the local distributer and, while lower in price from your affiliate store (which I would like to use but..) the delivery costs (shipping, insurance and tracking) will take the cost to over $800...
Will have to use my Dremel cutting disc and lock the Dremel tool on the end of the cable tool in a bracket. I have done this before with a cutting disk and mounted a plate made from a thin 1/8th aluminum plate with a suitable slot cut into it, thereby making a small and somewhat limited table style saw....
It works on many things so I will try it on formica etc soon...Thanks for this great idea...
Looks fantastic and thank you for the tutorial! Do you think it would work to make the baseplate darker in the middle, simulating deep water?
I could've sworn you were going to use the side with the Formica sample pattern for some added texture and depth. It still worked super well, and I guess it might've looked too busy otherwise.
Great tutorial video. I've been enjoying watching your videos for the last few months and it's great to see a fellow Canadian :-)
Cheers
Instead of trying to make a new rip fence build a table saw sled much easier and more uses
I don't know why I didn't think of that....I mean I use a rip sled for my full size saw all the time, it just didn't clue in on the mini one. I think that is the best option. Thanks
I love that little table saw. Have you ever tried to cut chipboard with it? Actually I want to cut boxboard which is about 2.5 to 2.7mm thick. NOt sure if you know what boxboard is but its a thick form of compressed chipboard cardboard and is the usualy grey colour like cereal box stuff. I would be really grateful if you could try it out!
an option for the platform to work off of if not wanting to snag formica tiles is to use a 3d printer (if you, friend, or local library/makerspace) just need a 1 mm square printed out.
I wonder what that saw will look like when it grows up.
He's the Bob Ross of miniatures.
really good idea i used double side tile the one side is a normal dungeon tile and the other side has a fire rune for example and represents a trap when a player jsut walks on it i simply turn the tile from the trap side and say hey you are in a trap XD x
Your videos are amazing. Thanks for the tips.
One question, what minis you use in your table? They look awesome.
It’s a mix of many companies.
My daughter and son-in-law play Pathfinder and similar games. Will the cave and modular castle walls in your videos work for Pathfinder? I would like to make some for them as a surprise.
Yea, all of the same stuff is used for all of these types of games :)
Great stuff. Traps can be tailored to be simple or more.
18:14 years of PB&J sandwiches of training. I'm impressed.
my jelly game is on point
Ohh, Reaper Master series paints! And Sir Forscale. Poor Sir Forscale, trapped in a pit. (I'm a big Reaper fan.)
Me too. Can't bones 4 ship now?!
Formica can be cut with a carbide blade, they are 10- 15 dollars and last for 50+ pieces.
I am loving the idea of a net trap of some type but I'm struggling to figure out what material to use to keep it in scale. That'd be awesome if you figure it out!
You could use either the type of mesh used to screen doors, or aida cloth which is normally used for cross-stitching. Depends on how large you want the open spaces of the net between rope strands to be.
Yea window screen, especially the metal kind would be good. Also that mesh that is used under poofy dresses...don't know what it's called.
What miniatures are those at the back of your cutting mat?
I love your and others videos . I have learned alot.
But not got any budget, so use, skip five wood.
Built a ww2 diorama it's ok, but any other skill will be difficult.
But just want to say your the best
and a great hero
Great video as always, thanks again for your efforts. BTW, how do you cut thin sheets of 3" x 3" XPS? Do you use a Guider Pro from Shifting Lands or do you have another method?
I have been just doing it sort of freehand using the included fence. Yesterday however I got the guider pro from shifting lands which is the far better way to do it.
The Formica is a really good idea, but they do make scoring blades for a utility knife. In fact you can find them in the same places you can get Formica.
I know this is super old, but one idea I'd had I wanted try was just wrapping a piece of saran wrap around a block of wood or something that is the size of the tile you want to create, then put the epoxy/details directly on that. When you're done just pull the plastic off. You'll have a tile that is literally no thicker than the scenery you put on it. The epoxy ought to be strong enough on it's own. Not great for all traps, but these ones with fluid it might work well.
Did you end up trying that out
@@gamemasterreviews630 I actually have not. Still sounds like a good idea though. Completely forgot about this comment, lol. Haven't been making much lately, sadly.
I would have made the pit walls, like half an inch thick from the border of the tile converging to the center, to create the illusion of depth even greater, but that would have been extra complicated work to a simple tile so... Don't know if it's worth it. Still, great video as always, keep it up 😉
Cheers
Would it be possible to cut the bottom of a stone tile so there is a little grove missing without it being too noticeable?
Lol! Great vid, once again. I used chip board for the base of mine. Your idea sounds much sturdier.
Thanks for the inspiration man :D
Black Magic Craft Really like the wet look. Going to work up the courage to try.
Dude, just do it...I mean the epoxy is $1.50 at dollarama. You can test it out on a scrap piece, nothing to loose. Although you may end up like me, going a little epoxy happy on things. Not everything needs to have standing water right?
Only real risk is getting it on stuff you dont want it on, so put down some paper and wear gloves if you want to make sure.
You should totally use this technique to make a set of ice tiles.
One of those tiles would look good with the 'water', and in it, a large set of sharp teeth, as though a huge creature was under the water, waiting, like an Angler fish, for the unwary to fall in. Or a few slimy tentacles, reaching up. They could be trouble for anyone who just went near the pit, at any time, being able to grab from a long distance, a bit like the 'Ogdru Jihad' at the end of the first 'Hellboy' movie.
I was just thinking if it is possible to cut the material similar way as you would cut glass? Or is it too flexible or 'chewy'? Breaking the surface from one or both sides with a knife or glass cutting tool and then crack the cut by benting it over a sharp edge.
It wouldn't work. Formica acts like really really strong thin plywood, it's really fibrous.
Will this saw work on foam core? I saw Adam Savage in one of his videos say they used saws for ripping down the huge foam core sets at ILM but I'm wondering if this would give a good, straight cut. I use the nicer black foam core, Elmers brand.
Yea, if you want to cut down foamcore with the paper still on it this little table saw would work well....but you will be limited by the width at which you can rip it.
ePVC foam sheets might be of use here, if you didn’t want to deal with cutting harder stuff
It would be cool to see some dirt road tiles.
I just make traps condition rings in my game. It's a perfect hybrid of TotM and craft.
Nice! What did you call the kitchen bench material? Really unsure if I can get it in Norway..
Formica
could you do a montage of all your dnd stuff it would look so amazing
Thanks for another great video!
you're welcome :)
so cool right around 5:00
😂 The first 2 seconds! 🤣
For future projects. You can back-cut the work material. ex. 5" material, just cut off 2" and have 3" left for your tile.
I highly recomand to brake the sharpe edge of the tile with sand paper imediatly after cutting it. With this kind of material you can easely cut yourself with the new edge.
I love it! At first glance I presumed the submerged moss was actually lots of bones 💀💀
Bright green for an acid trap
Ceiling traps please
Intro=10/10 would recommend
Would UV or glow in the dark paint work with the epoxy?
Also would laminated card sheets work?
Do you use the Proxxon table saw frequently?
Only one in a while. It's really amazing when I do use it, because it performs a task that really nothing else does, but it is very specialized. It's definitely not a must have item like the hotwire cutter, but its a great addition for a serious crafter.
where do you get those tiles the 3 by 3 standard tiles
i would be really interested in buying Quite a few
Can you tell me please?
You make them. There is a tutorial (and hundreds more) on this channel....
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial
ah thank you ive just found the vidio
But i have another question
Where do you get your foam and can you send me a link?
thank you!
I have videos dedicated to answering these basic questions and a playlist of BASICS for beginners....I also have a website of essential equipment. Please take some time to browse around as all of the questions you likely have are already answered in great detail.
This will be the best place to start: ua-cam.com/video/PuLt48NLnmg/v-deo.html
the way that mini table saw is built I see literally no reason Proxxon couldn't extend the table part out to the left another 6 inches or so. hell, maybe even you could fabricate something.
but their appears to be a LOT of unused space on the left hand side of the unit. lol
Great Idea
Love your channel mate! Subbed a couple days ago! :-D
Cheers.....paper minis are fine though :P
Hehe.. well, thats hard for a competition winner miniature painter to agree with. Having great mini's is for me a soul mission, but still love the stuff you do. I'm going through ALL your vids now to get inspiration to start making my first terrains. God Bless and Play Safe! :-D
Nice!
Lava for sure.
Just can't get xps foam thinner than 25mm in Australia
Great idea.
Thanks
How about a trap that flings or pushes you into another trap that does more damage ?
like an obvious trap that is very dangerous, with a narrow passage around it -- the narrow passage has a wall that springs and shoves you into the obvious trap. I think that I remember that in Tomb of Horrors
You could have positioned the rip fence where the three inch piece is on the right side of the blade.
Can't you put the fence on the other side of the table saw? You'd have enough room for some of the cuts, and the rest you can cut a strip or 2 off before the final one. Less efficient, though, wasting more material.
You could also use thick plasticard. Paints well, easy to score and cut. Should be sturdy enough to keep from cracking your resin. You can also get it in rods and tubes. Nice stuff. www.greenstuffworld.com/en/28-abs-plasticard
A Kaer trap, i.e. a trap close to sealed Kaers that are specifically designed to trap horrors, intelligent horrors, that are trying to break into Kaers, (Earthdawn).
1mm styrene sheet might have been a good option - it's much easier to cut, and super cheap.
It would totally melt and buckle under the heat of the epoxy.
To give you an idea, I 3D printed a well with PLA that melts at 180 degrees Celsius. I used the epoxy to add standing water and it melted out of the bottom of the well.
Here's a stupid idea: what about using cheap square coasters as a base for your tiles?
I guess if you can find coasters that are the exact size you need...but probably easier and cheaper to cut something down.
The other side of the 3" tile is small enough to fit with the guide on.
I would use sheet plastic, easy to cut, just score with a knife and snap it
Instead of using all of those weird and wonderful foams, formicas, or building materials, you could just use plasticard :)
Nah

These work just as well for cutting mica. Score it a few times, break it on an edge and file it smooth.
I got that idea from a video game PS2 "Trapt"
Snake 🐍 pit!!!
#EyeBallBeast so much epic :)
hope you enjoyed that pizza
Typical of someone that has used a table saw for a lot of things is to remove the blade guard. You obviously know what you're doing. It looks easy when you do it but I know how difficult it can be to freehand cut a straight line on a table saw. Even on something that is only 3 inches long.
I've installed a lot of hardwood flooring and kitchen cabinets.....I can freehand rip a perfect straight cut across an 8' piece of hardwood, lol. This here? just child's play.
.020 sheet styrene
Lol dark or not drop some mushrooms on there boom life will always find a way
What! Beholders aren't real?
Is it just me, or does anyone else imagine he used slice cheese to make these?
21:00 looks like a gross slice of cheese
