- The Rayman modding community has found some really cool levels and maps in the files of the Rayman 4 prototype, this being one of them, a lot of them cannot be accessed from the get to.

Watching these clips really puts it into a whole new perspective. They really did scrap an entire game with levels, mechanics, enemies, music, cutscenes… all thrown away to make a motion control mini game compilation instead. Crazy.

Exactly. Everything in the video was in the trailers back when it was called Rayman 4 Raving Rabbids. It was a huge disappointment back then to hear Rayman 4 RR, became just Rayman RR and it was just a minigame compilation.
The disappointment is even bigger now, knowing that they actually made a Rayman 4 platformer, which they scrapped 😵
Imagine if rayman 4 actually released? The rabbids may not have taken over the franchise. That would be a cool timeline. They stay as threatening villains instead of degrading to “funny fart haha lol xd😂😂😂😂😂😂”. And we would keep getting consistently good rayman games.
It’s just like what happened to Bioshock infinite.
It seems like rayman was finally going back to its horror type roots similar to rayman 2..

@@Skikopl Bingo. Truthfully miss the atmosphere Rayman 2 had. Extremely mystical, but never over-the-top, instead a magical world overrun by a robot empire. Loved the environments and art style that game used to do this, too, I still think about the contrast. Some of the levels really went for the spooky, too, which felt amazing navigating it as a whimsically bright and bold cartoon man

Classic ubisoft
Blame Ubisoft and Nintendo. The dev's ambition was doomed from the start, being given the time and constraints they were. Reminds me of Fallout New Vegas. If it wasn't for the hardware limitations, timeframe, and engine bugs Bethesda's engine is notorious for, it would've been *the* definitive modern Fallout entry. Instead, it's an incredible concept and writing endeavor doomed with a LOT placed into the cutting room floor🙃
They were thinking money, and judging by the Rabbids runaway success, they made the right call (for themselves)
It was mostly a time issue. The team was making Rayman 4 for PS2 when Ubi told them they had to make it a Wii exclusive and use the motion controls. This basically killed the game's momentum and eventually they (either the team or Ubisoft) made the decision to turn it into a cheap party game with what was already done. This caused Michel Ancel (creator of Rayman series) to leave the team and Ubisoft.
@@shadowx2229 What? No. Michel Ancel only left Ubisoft in 2014 and even then still worked close to them until he decided to quit gamedev altogether in 2020
Loved that transition to the forest at the end. It's an excellent contrast going from the bleak claustrophobia of the temple to the open tranquility of the woods.
I know that was all video editing magic, but it would've made for a fantastic opening lol. It really sparks the imagination and made me wished that Ubisoft stuck with their original vision
If the Wii was revealed like around 2008, they would’ve gotten the time to build it on the PS2 and 6th Gen consoles. And Ubisoft Paris would’ve kickstarted the Rabbids franchise and made the party game’s exclusively to the Wii at the launch title.

9:40 YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG I WANTED TO SEE THIS AGAIN?! I saw the teaser of Rayman riding on a giant realistic bird on UA-cam a couple of years ago and it was something I wanted to play ever since I saw the tease years ago, AND IT'S FINALLY PLAYABLE.

Dude as a Real RAYMAN fan I would really like to thank you for showing us the levels that they we're left in the code of rrr, is like a dream to me. I sure was disapointed when I finished Rayman Raving Rabbids and there was no open world levels, pretty sure I cried back then haha and seeing this levels just makes the 10year old inside of me burst of joy :')
Is there any community group where they gather and find out this secrets of Rayman 4? I would love to meet other Rayman fans and talk about Rayman 4 discoveries, theorys and possible development by fans ❤️❤️
I really can't believe they really decided to throw all of that out for a minigame collection... This is really sad and I really hope we get an actual Rayman 4 (or at least manage to restore it fully)
I genuinely think, with all the stuff you've uncovered, that this game can be restored to it's previously intended state
It is not just me, there are a lot of people dedicated to restoring and adding things to the game to make it the best it can be, i am just a part of that and upload videos of the things that we found and are fixing

The grappling hook looked like it would've been really fun to use
Keep in mind this is a prototype. Imagine had Ubisoft not had the Wii changed their plans fast. We could have got the Breath of the Wild or Sonic Frontiers for Rayman 4 but years before those games. DAMN

I like Rabbids, but it makes me sad to think that Rayman would have been side by side with Mario and Sonic if this had happened.
Bizarre how the rabbids went from some genuinely freaky villains to "cutesy" overbearing mascots that literally sucked the life essence out of Rayman
And before the cutesy, they were just destructive screaming bunnies doing mischievous and comedic things.
Really ironic, rabbids were originally intended to be a representation of capitalism and industrialization
at least the theme of Go Home is consumerism in some form

I feel like one of the only person who liked the Rabbids (mostly cause of nostalgia) but I wish we got this game so badly instead, I love the dark freakiness of these Rabbids, they feel like an actual alien threat and I love that
Ubisoft really said "fck it, erase all of this and lets make a minigame compilation"...

This is gorgeous! I can't believe they scrapped this.
They should remake this game, but with different enemies instead of rabbids (since there reputation is as funny slapstick characters theses days), also maybe make the animals look more rayman-ish instead of based in realism. I mean like they looked in rayman 2 and 3, you know like that big purple whale or those turtles walking around.
I think the Rabbids have potential as being serious/goofy enemies for Rayman to fight. Just because their reputation has dampened since their normal inception, doesn’t mean all the unique proto designs and other stuff they have, should be put to waste.
At the time, I'm sure the game would have looked like this.

This is some INCREDIBLY impressive restoration; the level looks almost complete! From what you've seen in the prototype, how far along do you think Rayman 4 got in development before it was scrapped in favor of the minigame collection? It looks at least 30-40% finished to me, but I'm far from a game development expert!
From all the behind the scenes and interviews, and with the leaked prototype build, it’s like only 25 percent of it is finished. 75 percent of it was retooled for the Wii’s Motion Controls to fit the Party Game aesthetic.
The fact that this game used to be the fastest open world game out there makes me pretty sad

@@user-fh7di8st6l IMO, even in a perfect world where the original open world concept was completed and released on Wii, I don't think it would have been ideal.
For as fluid as the prototype is, there would need to be a lot of optimization (read: long loading screens) done to run even tiny chunks of this on Wii hardware.
If Ubisoft were aiming for 360/PS3 specs, I could *maybe* see it panning out better.

There's something exilarating about exploring a level that we only Saw a glimpse of in a 15 years old E3 trailer...
I Wonder if they tool inspiration from Rayman 4.1's (phoenix studios version) Time Palace or whatever the name was. With all the cogs and mechanic sounds, it defenetly looks like a reworked, darker version of that level
Will the modding community provide a way for the casual players to experience these levels themselves? I tried opening the level editor but unfortunately it's far too complex for me LOL, I see you got the costume transformations working as well

dude..it was just awesome. Although I rarely write anything, this time was an exception. I had an idea that...why not actually create a studio where fans like you will try to bring back all the old progress of this game? Although there are few such people, but I think that someday we will still see Rayman 4 with such a mystical but cool atmosphere thanks to you, never give up and you will succeed!

I definitely miss Rayman when it gets more moody with the atmosphere.
It's a big reason I am so confused as to why Rayman 2 exists alongside the other, more zany titles.
Not really saying it should always be that way. But this and Rayman 2 are really what I like the look

Is it possible to create assets and custom maps within the Jade Engine and Source Code? I know the engine is old as hell, especially it was built around 1999, because I’d hope we get some amazing custom maps for the RRR retail and prototype with an restoration mod.

This game does kind of still live on in the DS and GBA ports but yeah... feels like a waste just throwing all this out.

We have figured it out, but some maps do not have the right objects to enable audio, will most likely add them later

@@MaeDaGoof what about the characters? (Globox, murphy & other characters & the characters that was originally in the prototype), hoping they are restored but I kinda doubt this game has voicelines (sense in the final version of RRR he is mostly silent)

Geez the more I see those the more I think they scrapped the game because it was "too dark" and scary for children. I let my dad finished Rayman 3 for me because the knaaren were scaring the shit out of me when I was a kid, for Rayman 2 it was the spiders and that cyclop thing. IMagine the entire game scary withthose red rabbits eyes everywhere lol
Is there a way to put the rabbid ships in the eagle section? Are they even functional? There were screenshots of rayman being chased by the rabbids while mounting the eagle.

I know this is weird to say, but it's kinda weird how this prototype in feel plays alot like Yo Noid 2. One of the weirdest fucking coincidences in gaming.
On one hand: God it pains me seeing what we didn't get
On the other hand: Raving Rabbids and its success later led to the Mario+Rabbids series.
The Mario crossover could still have happened as it solely took the rabbits, not the minigame gameplay. The rabbits were in this game too

A prototype of rayman 4 got leaked last month, and we have been going through the files to find everything we can, there is "restoration" for certain features and such.

A friend from the modding community did, i fixed them up a a bit and put them together to make it easier for people to access

Yes, we are discovering and patching up a lot of stuff, will take a while for everyone to be able to fully experience it due to a lot of things that need fixing

It is a bit hard with original leaked files, we have modified and patched a few files for us to be able to fix things up and access these
