I really wish the UbiArt engine was public, it's absolutely amazing, and I can see people making completely custom rayman games. If they're planning to ditch the entirety of the rayman series, they should at least release UbiArt to the public, plus the project files for both Legends and Origins.
This is an exceptionally powerful 2D engine. They're using spline meshes and an intelligent lighting system, and an animation system that uses 2D bones and bitmap graphics. The end result is essentially the destruction of tile-based 2D design into something more organic with an extremely high quality presentation and ease of use. Wow.
I know this is late, but the very reason Rayman has no legs/arms is because they didn't have the hardware to animate arms and legs for him back in the 90's.
To all the people saying they are using Spine. Please stop. Spine was inspired by this, they are not using it in UbiArt framework. (Rayman Origins was *released* in 2011, the kickstarter for Spine started in 2013)
Hopefuly you are still alive and educated after 8 months :D You seem like a guy who knows things. I was planing to get Spine 2D so I am doing research. Do you know maybe what are the alternatives, affordable for personal use/small studios, or what is the most common software to do animations like that? I used After Effects to get my rigging, and it is HELL! Thanks :)
I saw this a while ago and keep coming back to it. It's STILL the best video on UA-cam that talks about the Ubi Art Framework. This stuff is SO COOL! Thanks so much for posting this. :)
I just recently bought my first Rayman game (Origins on the 3DS) and it was fantastic. After watching this, I've got so much more respect for the developers.
I learned about the tool at GDC13, it is pretty sweet! For those of you looking for something like this, please take a look at Spine. The tool runs an almost any OS, and you can use your animations on many runtimes.
Super funny game! And the production tools look very professional on extreme high level of software design, art and music! Best Jump and Run game for me
Remember how it was said in 2011 that the Ubi-Art Framework (The game engine in this video) will become available to public, possibly even for free? WHEN? It looks amazing!
qué demencia, como hacer ese código que coincida cada movimiento de huesos con colisión con el medio, y esa cantidad de piezas de arte y animaciones!!! ay no, no me imagino esa complejidad, grandioso!!!
ua-cam.com/video/y-chi097uV4/v-deo.html I'm curious about the system on how the slope is still able to look good after adding points and moving it around. The artwork on is seems to adjust accordingly. Has someone found something on that?
The game designers put in so much work with the levels, it's amazing. :) Their 2D engine is REALLY powerful, I would love to be able to use it once it becomes open source!!! That would be so awesome.
subtitles would be nice, the voices are hard to hear/understand sometimes and the music playing doesn't help. But this is truly an interesting look, it is so detailed and they should be extremely proud of their work. Really innovative!
I see the art more as an appealling style. Kind of like how a person can recognize Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee and Rob Liefield (my favorite comic artists of the 90s) just based on how they draw their characters and scenes. I think the new thing is to take the comic book approach and to bring in a sense of style into games.
1:30 Look like spine, but all the parts of body are in only one sprite... Why did he works this way. All tutorial import the characters with the separte parts. I can´t understand
Spine it's a powerfull tool. Spine only needs the "lattice deformations" (1.45 in this video) the other "options" are in Spine already. A tool dont make cool animations the artist do. We are making a game with Spine and we love the tool. If you Check the Spine Forums in ShowCase and search "The intergalactic Trashman" you will see our game! You can watch our channel too. The game is in pre-pre-pre-alpha but it's taking shape!
UbiFrameWork is really awesome... It's a shame that it didn't get OpenSource... For those who like it, maybe you'll like our tool too: Uni2D for unity. It's not quite UbiArt but it's a nice start toward enjoying making 2D games in Unity3D!
You can have all the bells and whistles in the world implemented into a game, but if the gameplay and experience sucks, all that work goes for nothing.
wow those clouds are the same for the non collectable characters when u didnt have enough pink whatevers for a character so that could of been in the beta
How do they move the camera to the background, isn't the camera supposed to be orthographic? In that case the size of the texture won't change no matter the distance.
The Unreal Engine 4 and Source 2 Engine which are the most powerful engines in the universe are completely FREE to download but this engine is still a mystery ! I mean WHY NOT..?!!

lmao gl with that
It would be like Super Mario Maker, (or like LBP) if you think about.
ever heard of ubi-canvas
@@philiparnaudov9001 Yes, but it really takes too long to set up..
@@philiparnaudov9001 The closest thing we’re ever getting to a rayman level maker is *Rayman Redesigner.*

it makes pivoting motions you get with full on limbs much easier! still doesn't fail to be humorous!

@@shardium lol

I hoped this video never ended, I was the whole time with my jaw dropped.

Invisible legs :'v
ShoppingStew They did, just had trouble getting it to work. And whats the point of telling us that.
these people laugh , while Iam crying to get this engine
Mohamed Atef Well a similar program is Spriter, which has a free lite-edition! So you could check that out if you haven't already :D
Thanks I already did , but the limited one isnt enough ... but its ok though as its the only free one . ( Still want that one soooo bad :D )
Mohamed Atef Well the PRO version of Spriter is in steam summer sale at the moment for half the original price
+OkimboEnt I think he was talking about the level design engine, not their version of Spine, which is the bigger, more expensive brother of Spriter
It's been so long. We need a new game

There is an ope source alternative for spine, which is pretty cool in my opinión. It's called DragonBones, check it out
@Leon Ruiz : I was checking the DragonBones it features exact same workflow as spine and its free.. Thanks for suggesting :)
If I could read Chinese I would. I can't even register on that stupid site.
Do you have testing Blender for make the same, it's free
Find the channel of the Andreas Esau. He make the rigs with blender, and use Godot
I love To see how my favorite rayman level is created!
What an awesome and intuitive game engine.
The studio that made Rayman origins and legends is one of the best studios ever! Do a new Rayman game!
My comment was not about the game design. Rayman has awesome game design, but the art is something we've never seen before.
This technology is unbelievable.
I'm so jealous. This makes the level editor I wrote for my games feel so primitive.
I feel your pain 😂😂☹️

This gotta be the best platform engine ^^ This video got me hooked, never thought it would look like this much fun!
