    launching the nuke ended up being the right call, we saw the zombies flood out of the city's and into the country side in the early episodes.

      I dunno. Whilst it could wipe out a bunch of walkers, it would also kill all life both human survivors and animals. Not to mention the fallout, defeating any real chances of surviving in the region. The walkers probably would've returned anyway and those that weren't killed by the blast would've survived the fallout anyway, hell, probably would've survived the heat to an extent (we saw that in Atlanta with the napalm.) Would be interesting to see how the rest of the world handled it though, I wonder if any countries completely collapsed to nuclear annihilation. I wouldn't be surprised if Iran decided to nuke the fuck out of it's neighbors hahaha.

      @@TheMinipily Fallout from a single nuclear detonation is minimal because it is air burst. Radiation isn't a magic death field, it's found in particles and if you irradiate a bunch of dirt then that's what is the problem. But air bursts minimize that. They detonated nuclear bombs above people's heads during the Cold War just to prove this very point.

    The guy who broke his oath because he didn't want to fire on home ground is something that would not have happened in real life. Another sign of terrible writing where people forget that the ones holding the keys to the bombs are mentally fit and prepared to fire the nuke on command. This situation would never occur and the other people who were in the room would have helped the captain fire the weapon.

      Actually happend before during cold war.
      There was a warning that the cccp launched missile towards the USA and the soldiers on duty decided to not launch the retaliation protocol because of the moral implications.
      Turns out he was right since it was a false alert...(9nov 1979)
      There are a dozen or so of such cases on both NATO and soviet sides.

    • @TheMinipily
      @TheMinipily 9 місяців тому +8

      I can see where you're coming from but there's a reason Nuclear Consent exists. If one party refuses, then that's that. The refusing party probably assumed that firing off a nuke would do more harm than good. They've seen that Walkers are literally the living dead, besides the sheer blast of a nuke, the nuclear fallout would do absolutely nothing to the walkers but it would kill off living animals and humans. I suppose the guy isn't thinking militarily in that moment but thinking as a human being, which could be chopped up to sloppy writing but I don't think anyone knows how anyone would truly act in a situation like that. Much like a First Contact scenario, there's no real handbook on it, certainly not one that can truly prepare you.

    • @blacknonbinarydisabledlesbian
      @blacknonbinarydisabledlesbian 8 місяців тому

      No, the outbreak was already worldwide. They just would've killed millions of walkers from swarming the rest of the country when they leave the cities.
      The nukes would've been the last resort, hence why they sent the military first, once they fell, they would've had no choice. Especially if the cities were the first to fall, they'd have the greatest number of walkers
