Deep Dark Fantasies because often they leave there places because of family! When someone is dying in the base he will also be a walker in the base! People could fight against each other in bases because of resources! There are a lot of reason the military could be overrun. Food is the number 1 problem I guess

    • @sumboredazn

the only scenarios i can really believe the entire military being overrun is if the zombies are the running and jumping types. slow walking ones just dont seem like a big threat unless in GIANT hordes in the hundreds of thousands or millions, and even then conventional bombs and artillery would wipe out chunks of the horde and then foot soldiers would go in and clean up the rest. its hard to believe that the most trained people in the world wouldnt figure out that shooting the head is the way to go :/

Even if Hawaii had somehow been unaffected. Food on the island would have become scarce very quickly because gas/food/other resources would have stopped being transported to the island. That's a lot of people on 1 carrier , there's entire fleets of the Navy on each coast there's no reason for them to be on land when there the ones bombing cities . So where the shit did they go ? .
Then again maybe I'm wrong and they were all sent to fight , but that makes no sense. Idk , it is just a TV show with way to many possibilities and what if questions that will most likely never be answered.

It would actually be interesting if they did one for say Japan or the UK where they are allied nations and they actually managed to contain the outbreak and found a cure for the ones who were still alive. Like the first season or so it could be the UK government sacrifices the people in London etc in order to have troops stationed across the country to patrol the roads and set a blockade of London. Then after finding a cure they could dedicate a portion to the clearing of London and Europe and if they want they could add mutations to the zombies to make it really interesting like they walkers have a leader that controls them etc and directs where they go next etc.

They knew how to kill them in the beginning. Watch Fear season 1. The military is around I guarantee. It would be like the WWZ story where they would fall back to secure locations. Up in hills or other natural defensive barriers. Maybe massive complexes. They would learn quickly how to isolate troops from one another as to avoid massive outbreaks that happen through out the series. It could be as simple as tying one self to a tree/bunk or locking the sleeping quarters. Course there would be an easy way of releasing themselves quickly. They would also post fire watch at night. Take the prison scene in TWD. Where the one kid who died in the shower and went into different cells to infect people. The military would simply rig the cells with D Rings where they could let themselves out easily from the cells. But a Walker would not be intelligent enough to get into the cell. If the military personnel died in their cells they couldn't get out because they would be secured.
As for separated units. Naturally there would be Reserve and National Guard units that would have been sacrafised or stranded. The military always has back up plans for everything. Most military personnel are spread out around the country far from home unlike Guard and Reserve Units. I know they would be concerned about friends and family. But they also have another family. The guys and gals to left and right of them. By the time the infection swept up civilization it would be too late to drive 2,000 miles back home.
The government has countless fortified and hidden bunkers around the country. They would figure out how to survive along with the military. Adapt and overcome.
One thing that has bothered me. They would have known walkers were attracted by sound. I truly believe they would put up loud speaker polls in the fields to attract thousands of walkers in one place. Come in and drop napalm, cluster bombs or artillery. Not counting using armored vehicles to run over the hoards. Ships could attract the dead to the shores with horns blaring. When there would be enough on the shore line The Navy would bombard it. The Navy would be opperating easily out of reach. The show's don't give the military enough credit.

The sheriff in Columbus Nebraska linked up with a local gun club (aka militia) and national guard unit. They imposed martial law on the community and set up a defensive perimeter around the small city as the epidemic began taking down both coasts. The sheriff's level head and use of civil defense protocols are credited with saving the city and the vast bulk of its inhabitants. Today, the 25,000 people making up Columbus are one of the largest population centers still existing in the plains states. The flat terrain gives them a decisive advantage in locating and terminating walker herds before they can get anywhere near Columbus.

Think of all of the troop landing ships, destroyers, hospital ships, supply ships, the 11 aircraft carriers which can run without fuel for DECADES. The Military would post likely move to colder environments where zombies can’t survive or move as fast like Alaska since it’s so cold. The airforce could draw out hordes and bombard zombies to thy kingdom come with B-52’s, A-10’s, F-35’s, F-18’s, F-16’s, B1’s B2’ Stealth Bombers, and etc. You can’t forget about the bases in Hawaii as well. It makes sense for bases closer to major cities to be overrun, but bases like Fort hood, Paris island, Guam, etc? How can zombies disable Main battle tanks and up-armored Humvees? They couldn’t even reach the gunners hatch to an MRAP. Apaches could release hell upon the zombies with their 30 mike mikes, hydra pods, and hell fires. We aren’t gonna talk about the air force bases which drone operators could control their drones from while in a safe terminal box? There’s so much equipment in the U.S. military arsenal we don’t see. All we see is a bunch of retards running around scared with guns. I don’t think the military would set up the little small outposts seen throughout the show, but much larger camps which would be closed into sections with an effective number of soldiers patrolling far and close to the perimeter. We’d have to see a much larger presence of the military regardless sooner or later, because if they did survive, they’d need to resupply.

Whilst we may never see any remnants of the government, I respectfully disagree that all governments have fallen. Warning: lengthy discussion/theorisation follows.
Even looking back at Dr Edward Jenner at the CDC, he said the French were the last, but I believe that everyone lost connection with each other, so he cannot claim for certain that France fell.
Most major governments had massively reinforced bunkers dating back to the Cold War that would provide security and supplies in the event of nuclear armageddon that would have supplies to last for months or even years. The USA has numerous ranging from Mount Weather in Virginia to Cheyenne Mountain here in Colorado (hell, according to conspiracy theorists, Denver International Airport is an end of world bunker for the world elite lol). The US has extremely detailed and elaborate plans such as the Continuity of Operations, the U.K. has had similar relocation plans dating back to WWII with their Continuity of Government, and God knows how many bunkers Russia has left over from the Soviet-era. Not to mention that a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier is essentially a floating city with a near infinite supply of energy, desalination pumps/generators/plants to turn sea water into drinkable water... Even a diesel engine-powered carrier could last a while if planned well.
In addition, when Nick is in hospital in season one of FTWD, it is clear that many first responders (and therefore most likely the higher elements of government) are aware of what happens when someone dies due to the remark by a doctor when Nick’s roommate suddenly codes-‘if we can’t revive him within a couple of minutes, we need to take him downstairs’. In this sort of environment, the bunkers for the highest elements of governments would have armed guards keeping eyes on literally everyone 24/7 and searching for any and all signs of possible infection and turning during the night.
Lastly, I dunno if we can say the entirety of Operation Cobalt failed completely. Whilst the initial containment absolutely failed, we only see the withdrawal fail with our cast of characters, and that was due entirely by the meddling of said characters and the ‘liberation’ of the walkers and escorting them to the ‘base’ (if a cheap, non-reinforced chainlink fence can be called a ‘base’). Had the stadium been left alone, the military probably would have withdrawn in good order. We don’t know if similar bases and safe zones across the country (and world) were able to withdraw to a final national redoubt where they planned to just sit back, re-arm, re-organise, and wait until they could push out again and attempt to re-build. Would it be the government as we knew it before the apocalypse? Probably not. But they very well could be biding their time.
    Just my thoughts... /novel
    Cheers

+Creatures The problem is that a post-apocalyptic world, especially early on, with a lot of people still alive, is a desperate fight for resources. That makes what is usually the strength of the army, their size and organization, their weakness. Bigger concentrations of forces become impossible to maintain, because they just suck the area dry of supplies - especially when you count in all the hungry refugees that flock to them - and begin to starve almost immediately. Then the only solution is to split them up into smaller units, so they can feed themselves. And when you do that, it becomes almost impossible to coordinate large scale operations, as you no longer have the manpower on hand. It is highly likely that some of the more strategic and more defensible locations are still held by the army, but by this point, they must be running low on pretty much everything anyway.

What most people don't get, the biggest enemy to an organized society is panic.
This is what happened and if the government remnants were around and knew more than the average survivor they would probably dig-in in natural areas such as islands or mountainous regions using rivers as demarcation lines etc or in Cheyenne just hide inside.
And as the video states correctly, chain of command can breakdown to mere warlordism. Not just petty warlordism like Rick, Governor or Megan but maybe early twentieth century China level over who is the legitimate government.
I believe the government is around but gave up on saving the world and probably just dugbin and wait this thing out until they sort out some vaccine for the reanimation process but also to keep their equipment functional since they no longer have the industrial-military complex to back them up anymore.

Yes, the US Military would still exist, however, they would likely lock down and defend hard points such as NORAD, and other large military installations as apposed to going out and actively fighting the undead. The sheer firepower at the military’s disposal including air and Naval assets would make being totally overrun unlikely. Meanwhile, entities like CDC, WHO, DARPA, etc, would likely continue limited operation underground with heavy military protection.
The priority would be defending the R&D sector in the hopes of developing a cure or at the very least, some type of immunization before going out and clearing out the walkers.

I figured that when communications with command went down and the logistics and resupply failed, most of the military units also splintered. They probably became roving bandits using what equipment and training they had to pillage until they either used up whatever reserves they had or the infighting got to the point where they took off. It takes a very strong leader to hold a group together when they start running out of everything. Most of the ammunition would eventually get used up. The fuel would be gone, their uniforms would start to fall apart, then they would start being indistinguishable from all the others... except for their military training. My feeling is that those units that figured out that if a person died, no matter if they were bitten or not would turn, and took steps to ensure that people had to be kept isolated and protected so anyone who died and turned couldn't infect the group like Patrick did in the prison in season 4, probably survived longer. They likely had mandatory check-ins every couple of hours or so to keep that from happening.

I agree when you say if you look at the show too closely, it starts to break down. Not sure how the military ever disappeared. The series has never provided a rationale explanation for why the Army would just disappear. An Infantry Company would be virtually invulnerable against a horde of mindless zombies. Now imagine entire Army Divisions and what they would be able to do. The real problem with Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead is they never showed how so many people turned into Zombies overnight. Remember - At both the start of both series, life went from totally normal to complete chaos in a few hours. In the Walking Dead, you see signs of an abandoned child's birthday party near Rick's house. This means people thought it was safe enough that morning to throw an outdoor party for their kid, but by the afternoon society had collapsed. Then there Fear the Walking Dead, where the schools send the kids home early on one day only to have the collapse of society by the next morning. Now slow moving zombies and a Z virus that takes hours or days to turn you into a Zombie when bitten will not cause such overnight collapse. If that were the case, then the whole World would be infected by rabies in a matter of hours. They could have avoided this plot hole by simply having a sizeable portion of the population turn into Zombies by breathing in the Z virus, while the rest only transform if bitten or dying. If a third of the population became Zombies overnight and started attacking others, then yes...you could have an overnight collapse.

I think the important thing to note though, and what made it so dangerous, is that each person is already infected. You don’t need to “catch” the sickness. If anyone in your camp catches the regular flu and dies- zombie. If someone slips and falls and dies in the shower- zombie. You don’t need an invading force when the enemy is already within.

The tipping point of societal collapse comes when duty is overcome by self preservation. Once the medical and transportation infrastructure shreds, the security forces won't last much longer. Society today supports far too many "freeloaders", those who contribute little if anything but consume and have no knowledge of anything beyond that.
You'd likely see Army/Marines units and maybe some police stick together to defend areas w/their families, that might create islands of stability but they'd have to weather the early waves of refugees pretty ruthlessly. I think the refugee masses would be more of a danger than the zeds until starvation, mass killings by thugs/criminals etc thin the numbers down enough that you'd see some social reconstruction. That would likely be at least a year or so though. Much will depend if enough specialists (medical, technical, mechanical) survive that period of the collapse to be supported by the rest.
We'd be at a 19th century level pretty quick if the die off is fast enough. If it takes too long though we might be at a medieval level w/nothing but tiny villages being the new basis of humanity. It'd be a slow crawl back up if that happened.

pretty much so...the zeds would be just another fixture of the environment until man/nature largely eliminate them. In reality except maybe in the more densely packed urban areas of nations and nations that don't have armed civilians, I don't think zeds could have ever gotten the upper hand anyway.

Many great points made in this section, in regards to remnants of military and government, the safest places for them would either be in an underwater , base, fully loaded battle ships and auxiliary support naval battle fleets, aerial support battle vehicles, military advanced lunar/mars bases, and the such, only in ignorance can we assume that the government wouldn’t have these contingency plans in place even wayyy before the outbreak,The human race are an interesting, unpredictable, unorthodox practical yet impulsive species, built for survival against all odds , even if this type of TWD zombie apocalypse took place in real life rather than fiction I’m pretty confident we’ll have no problem taking care of the zombie hords,

Tough call. I'm kind of split on this issue. On the one hand, I desperately want to know what caused the dead to start walking around, so on some level I actually WANT there to be some kind of remnant of the old government just so that they eventually can shed some light on this overarching mystery, and it also seems to be way too unrealistic that the entire military might of the world would get wiped out so easily. But on the other hand, I also kind of feel like if there still was a backbone of the old government left, it would hollow out the whole premise of the show, because as it is, the show has become an epic event of survival and of rebuilding society out of the ruins of the old. If tanks rolled up suddenly and openly declared "hey there, we're back now, we'll take care of this", the show would become so much less than what it is.

Quite a old video but I've gathered some information recently and this gave me some ideas:
It's plausible that the remmnants of the us government are using places like Raven rock mountain complex, mount wheater,Cheney mountain complex or even the bunker under the white house
Comand probably ordered the coast guard to evacuate civilians to secure places like Alaska and Hawaii where a smaller population and territory makes easier to manage and secure the civilian population, marines, navy and airforce would make their way with ships or aircraft towards the safe areas, some army and national guard personnel could be evacuated
Special forces units would probably get priority transportation due to the fact that they are made to be mobile and work stealthy, remember the armed forces have the gear but if they are in places with poor mineral quantities they can't just send an A-10 or some Reapers to solve the problem so if they wanted to clear some place small, mobile stealthy units would be the rule until the get a strong foothold
To combat hordes use of NAPALM and white fosfer would together with anti cavalry tatics and heavy use of antimateriel weapons to either pierce as more heads as possible or destroy zombie spines ,soldiers would be outified with bayonets to kill a zombies in small groups.
Riot gear and Kevlar lined clothing would become the standart issue uniform, tissue linned with Kevlar becomes resistant to cuts, this means that even if the zombies could somehow pierce the very resistant clothing of the armed forces initially the bites would cause more pain than danger, automatic weapons such as the M-4 would probably be ditched for high caliber slow firing high precision rifles such as an Henry 45-70 all wheater, the FAL,M-14,M-24 sniper system or the HK-417
Planes would be used only to drop troops covertly, vehicles like the osprey would grab the troops outside of military controled zones
Survivors that don't agree with going to a military safe zone would be considered witnesses or traitors, remember a LOT of people would be pissed off with the government and some have freaking tanks
Just a note:I find strange some submarine crew didn't propositaly trihered MAD(mutually assured destruction) the US and Russia have automated missile systems that will send nukes to each other if a enemy nuclear weapons goes of in Russian/NATO territory
I think that's all ma boi bye

There is actually a very sophisticated a contingency plan within the Federal government for a full scale crisis called COGCON. Like the military's DEFCON, COGCON or "Continuity Of Government readiness CONdition" amounts to basically a play book by which different departments within the Executive Branch would maintain order and/or at least some semblance of a functioning civilian government in the event of national crisis (say a dirty bomb going off in DC or surprise invasion by a hostile foreign power).
COGCON 1 is what we are in right now (I hope), it is the everyday normal operations of the Federal government. When COGCON 4 or above is called (it goes to 5 like DEFCON) it has been determined by either the White House or the Department of Homeland Security that the normative and regular operations of the government as whole cannot be continued due to any number of circumstances. At this point even if they are not in the capital Senators, US House Reps, the Supreme Court Justices, and the President's Cabinet members along with POTUS and the VP, some support staff, and perhaps even some of their family members are basically abducted by the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service. What's frightening for some is that, effectively, when this part of COGCON is put into action the DHS is temporarily the government of the country. If anyone within the line of succession are determined by DHS (or the Secret Service) to have been incapacitated, are unaccounted for, or have been killed the Joint Chiefs of Staff (who have their own contingency plan through the DoD) are alerted and a plan to swear in whoever is next is quickly hashed out. Typcally these officials who are being abducted by DHS are on their way to hardened sites where they can ride out the storm or whatever is happening. If it appears that there will be long term COGCON 4 or 5 situation teams at each hardened site will try to maintain contact between the various different civilian government officials for as long as possible.
The whole point of COGCON is to keep whatever parts of the Federal government we have left working as long as possible and gear up to return control to an elected government as quickly as possible.

Of course, there are the remaining aircraft carriers. One of the bases for any of the surviving aircraft carriers is Hawaii. After the bases are established, one of the main priorities of the survivors is to establish contact with rest of the world. For the Commonwealth, its rulers will likely find themselves in conflict with the other unknown major powers. Some candidates for the other major powers are Bermuda, Newfoundland, Hawaii, Iceland, and ironic Japan.

I think the biggest problem is that TWD and FTWD take place in two high population areas (Eastern seaboard and Socal/Mexico), and it shouldn't surprise anyone that the military and governments have collapsed in those regions.
However, I feel if they ever had characters from the northern US states (Alaska, Montana, the Dakotas, etc.), I think the story would be very different. Areas like those have low population, significant gun ownership and a fair number of military bases. If there is any sort of organized government/military presence in the US, it's in those areas (Alaska especially).
I could also see significant numbers of USN ships floating just over the horizon off either coast.

I don't believe the government is functioning but I do believe there are ENCLAVES of Military & Government personnel around the country (and probably around the World) and they're just trying to take care of the populace closest to them or EVEN JUST THEMSELVES. Probably run by lower ranking Officers, Non-commissioned Officers (Sergeants) and lower ranking government officials: House Representatives (Deanna) and Department Chairs (or their assistants).
Some doctors DID survive, to say the ENTIRE Military (Active duty, National Guard & Reserves) from ALL FIVE SERVICES: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines & Coast Guard are gone is to say that none of them, AS INDIVIDUALS, were SURVIVORS. I don't buy it. Abraham made it and the guys he was with would have if they hadn't gone NATIVE, RIP ABRAHAM!!! The unit the governor killed had made it, they just didn't think a LIVING AMERICAN would be a threat. The governments are indeed GONE, *but there are 800 Army bases around the world, just Army bases,* some branch or collective branches of the Military are 'holding it down' SOMEWHERE.
