The lore of this boss is so cool. Lion guardian of the golden lineage is fully grafted to suppress the only thing that gives Hoarah Loux meaning - violence - and create First Elden Lord Godfrey.
And then, Godrick and others in his lineage pervert this. Graft seeking false strength, while their true forefather needed to do it only to restrain bloodlust with wisdom.
Cool insight
Something cool to note is that Radahn has lions all in his armor because he was inspired by Godfrey
Godrick and future worshippers corrupted the process of grafting as a means of attaining godly power that did not belong to them. Godfrey used grafting as a means to temper his true godly inner strength. Simple, and poetic. Fromsoft at their finest.
Does that mean if Godfrey wasn't let go of his duties as Elden Lord that we wouldn't have got that weird dragon arm boss fight from Godrick?

@@sorakazama7031 it’s understandable if you missed it, I certainly did. The opening cutscene lists several Tarnished, such as Fia, Goldmask, and the Dung Eater. The first Tarnished mentioned is Hoarah Loux.

@HungLikeALemur I like it better that way, the guy is super proud of being a bloodlusted warrior, that's why in my opinion the "warrior" is more important to him even though it sounds a bit silly. The delivery was silly, the message was badass.

Little bit of lore for those who don’t know. Godfrey isn’t a noble king he was just a very ferocious war lustful warrior. So he took the lion Serosh that would I guess absorb the thoughts. That’s why he kills Serosh, so he can go crazy
Kinda the opposite of Godrick. Godrey has something attached to him to hold him back while Godrick grafts things to give him power he doesn't have

Godfrey IS a noble king/Elden Lord. Hoarah Loux is a battle craze warrior but was also the Chieftain of the Badlands. And Hoarah Loux only became Godfrey after he grafted Serosh unto him to seal his blood lust.
Godfrey is probably my favorite boss in the game... Especially his 2nd phase... The sheer ridiculousness of his grabs is amazing

You're fighting a god darn Berseker in his second phase, which are known for destroying everything around them in a couple of swings, at the cost of low defence in every rpg game.

The shout he does in his second phase straight up looks like the ríastrad is taking over him, how he extends his neck and shit. Very Cuchulain.
I love that throughout the game, every boss is either expressing the grandeur of their own self delusion or telling you your ideas aren't good enough, or youre evil for pursuing your ambitions, or a myriad of other things that are told to you, and this man, this great warrior just says, well fought. You've come a long way, and he respects that. That's a good boss fight. I'm always honored to fight you, Godfrey. You're a good man in my eyes.

Godfrey is next to isshin from sekiro one of the best bosses in all of gaming imo. There is something about bosses that are chads lorewise, teased throughout the whole game and when they finally arrive they absolutely demolish you. That's how a boss is done.

Godfrey is by far my favorite boss fight in the whole game, not for how hard it is since once you learn the pattern it’s pretty easy, but for just how crazy and over the top the whole fight is. Seriously, the guy sends shockwaves by rofl stomping, shakes the very ground like a bloody titan, and pile drives you after flinging you haplessly into the air. He even willingly kills his companion just to 1v1 you, revealing himself as one of the major Tarnished. The fact he looks like a giant Dwarven king also earns him major cool points in my eyes too. Just all round love this encounter and was so fun to learn and beat it.
When people ask how Fighters can compare with Wizards and stuff in high level DND or similar things, this fight will be the gold standard I reference from now on.

The thing he isn't only a major Tarnished, he is the very first Tarnished to exist.
One thing I can't get on board with in ER is the constant spamming of AOEs. And this guy is the worst offender by far.
For some reason I could not get the hang of his second phase cuz of his constant delayed attacks I would always pannick and dodge to early I still love Godfrey tho and I think his second phase is great I just had to use mimic tear eventually cuz I kept dying to his second phase. Still my favourite fight in the game.

For some reason, his second phase is giving me King Gilgamesh vibes, where Gilgamesh and a man-beast duked it out fisticuffs-style and became friends after. Imagine getting a hidden fist weapon called the "Twin Fists of Serosh", and then fought Hoarah Loux with those fists.

They made the main bosses easier than the side bosses (Malenia and Radahn) so people wouldn’t get stuck for too long. If he was a side boss he would’ve had 2 full health bars instead of going to 2nd phase at half health
I guess they missed the memo that Ragagon/Elden beast is the final boss and not side content.
Actually, they had the decency to use a respectful and fair design with Hoarah Loux, As the exact contrary of Malenia.
Even Radahn is an extremely fair boss design, and really fun to fight. (Even the pre patch fight.)

this boss is really cool, it's a shame he die too fast and move so slow in phase 2, specially he got that berserker vibe. I was hoping he would be hard as fighting radahn or malenia
Yeah I'm kinda disappointed with pretty much all of the end-game bosses being so easy to kill, honestly.
A lot of build-up for a few bosses made purely out of paper.
With a little luck you can bypass most of the mechanics the fight even has because of how much damage you can do to them.
How does he move slow in phase 2

As impressive as a lot of the late-game bosses are, thematically, it gets undermined by the fact that they're walking paper weights.

You’re gonna get slapped like a mf if you try to roll into her on the first flurry, but second and third, you have have to put in a really specific input to roll into her safely.
@@thegladiator6449 I agree, the input is weird and not consistant, but with a shield to deal with her first flurry, the next ones were more managable.
For anyone struggling with him. it's a lot more lenient to jump over his ground pounds. Rolling through them requires a lot more precision.

@@mistadangerzone8362 a lot of them make use of it. Try it whenever you see a sweeping attack. It works surprisingly often. I guess people don't realize because there's no "do something different" indicator like in Sekiro.

@@mistadangerzone8362 Quite a few bosses actually have abilities that require jumping dodges. Radagon, Malekith, Godrick, Godfrey (obviously) are just a few. I'm not saying it's abundant, but there's definitely a few.
By the way that Lion on he's back Serosh is actually there to hold him down and control and tame he's power and hes crazy Warrior instinct. If you notice the lion is biting down on he's shoulder. So Badass!
I’ve never felt more reality in a fight than fighting Godfrey in all of souls o boss is as believable as he is and it’s the animation of his moveset. It looks so majestically labored like he feels the weight but knows exactly how to use the momentum that comes with it it’s barely controlled chaos it’s nuts
One of the reasons I loved his and the crucible knight fights. They don't swing with wild abandon, like many other bosses. Their moves are strict and calculated, with weight behind them.
I love his intro, fighting style, backstory and he was very respectful. Best boss for me.

2k dmg with each jump attack is insane
My favorite part of this fight is how after the cutscene ends the music becomes louder and the chorus becomes silent for the instruments build up. I also love the organ in the background of the song.
I honestly think Hoarah Loux should have like 80% damage reduction in his second phase, he becomes so badass but the fight is basically over at that point :/

You missed his coolest combo...where he throws you up in the air...does like an air jordan and dunks you into the ground. I love how well the fights are done in elden ring....they look like a cinematic

As soon as I saw phase 2 I levelled a Caestus to lvl 25 and took off my shirt. In the end, it has to be this way.

Godfrey/Hoarah Loux is probably my favourite boss fight, took me 3 or 4 tries but I managed to not get hit at all on my final go, felt so badass. Pure hitbox porn.
Get you a man who causes your eyebrows to dance like Asmongold's does when he sees Godfrey's transition to phase 2.
Asmon acting all tough and saying 'I'll beat this bitch, no problem', and then hearing 'Upon my name as Godfrey' and the music kicking in, sent his bravado straight down the hole. That's the souls experience with boss intros, absolute classic.
Asmongold is literally one of the only people I actually seen react the way you are supposed to in that cutscene.
It's a OH FUCK moment where your realize your going up against the original and now your true contender to the elden lord.
Like this man slew giants and is an unstoppable monster on the field and most people just blankly stare
He's the sole reason placidusax has only 2 heads and now lives beyond time and the reason the fire giant we fight is the last of his kind. He's an absolute menace of a gigschad

Dude, watching a mage to annihilate both Radagon and Elden Beast in 2 seconds is embarrasing as fuck.
Especially because everyone of them uses Radagon glitch for blasting him with Azur Comet.
@@jador9641 I've also seen legendary bosses die to 1 melee swing. The point is the game can be too easy for any build so nobody should be disrespecting any other build.
Asmon has been overlevelled for 3/4ths of the bosses in this game and it will probably affect his idea of the game's difficulty.

Little bit of lore : Serosh was placed on his back to tame Godfrey's rage. Once removed he became no longer tamed.

Ok I understand Serosh was given to Godfrey as a way to suppress his bloodlust and he kills him to release himself to fight you unmitigated, but why does Serosh's hand mimic the movement of Godfrey's hand? Did him killing Serosh also give him the beastial strength of Serosh added to his own? Is that why he roars like a beast before some of his biggest attacks?
I know its his choice and it's the players choice and I am not talking about here but the crazy damage kinda got me sad bc I wish asmongold and others got to experience some Boss's complete moveset, for example saw some people melt Maliketh and not even see his sick moves. I am fine with being strong e.g. having tons of health so you don't die, but it's a shame when some people go through a relativley cool boss without experiencing it. For example Sodapopin used comet Azula on Mohg and legit never saw the 2nd phase
Same thing happened to me here though. The last 4-5 bosses weren't particularly hard because I had already played the game 180 hours and was level 150 with several max upgraded weapons. They should perhaps make the last few bosses harder tbh.

At level 156 even, i dont know why someone would go that high at all unless you are at Crumbling Farum Azula at NG+1, completely unreasonable
I really feel that a few of these last bosses Malikath and Hoarah Loux in particular need to have phases like Radagon and Rhykard where you deplete boss hp bar 1 and then phase 2 is a new health bar because while they are amazing fights if you have a strong build you can dodge an attack and kill them almost instantly taking away from some of the coolest fights in the game you can't say it would make them to hard either because Malenia has the same full hp mechanic and she feel amazing to fight. I wound up fighting Malikath with an unupgraded weapon so it felt like he had a proper health pool 50% for them is too low
On Hoarah Loux yeah, not Maliketh tho, one of the worst fights in this game imho

Truly brainless.
Regular or strong attacks won’t do shit, at the end of the day. Besides, jump attacks (mostly with R2) have the ability to stagger your opponent depending on what stat you’ve put the most investment in. Besides, you’re gonna need it for later fights, as they seem insistent on wanting to be a dirty fuckin’ bitch to you, so you might as well reciprocate those feelings back & play just as dirty as them.

IMO godfrey was one of those bosses that needed two whole health bars, one for each stage. He is too easy

I like the idea that … all the tarnished are fighting to become Elden Lord. Even at the beginning of the game Godfrey is somewhere kicking ass fighting his way to the tree. And just coincidentally runs into you as his last challenge
Also, apparently Godfrey is a tarnished? Why is he so big? If we become king do we also get a gigachad transformation? And does Torrent become our Serosh XD

fromsoft should rly do more bosses who are in their peak performance it feels so much more badass when the enemy we finally beat is not some sort of rotten falling apart cripple old dead man

Oh man, ich love this boss. He is so epic, his voice, his appearence (espacially his physical strentgh in the cut scenes and this air thing) and the best feeling you can have in elden ring is to dodge roll his axe, its just so satisfying.
it's interesting to see some comments say that he was easy compared to Radahn. I had an easier time with Radahn than I did Godfrey. His attacks have weird timing and they pack a punch, so there's less room for error. different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Look at the throne of Elden Lord when fighting Morgott, and see that the player seams to look like child next to ordinary chair, and at the ending, he/she seams to seat on the same throne and be fitting size. So yeah, at the end we may grow taller. Although, it is not so clear.

Everyone in the comments calling him easy!!! I’m level 100 and he is almost impossible. I don’t get hit once in his first phase and then second phase obliterates me.
Enjoy the process while it lasts. He’s definitely my favorite boss and I wish I would have fought him under level

@@CountArtorias No compared to the other later bosses Malekith, Radagon/Elden Beast, Malenia he is certainly easy. I feel like he genuinely needed more HP as he just dies a little too fast. Compared to the cracked up spider monkey that was Malekith he was nothing. Still the coolest boss in the game imo, next to Malenia (mostly because the voice actor did an excellent job as her) and the visuals of her second phase.

@@cannedsquasher5923 lol what? He literally has over double the hp of Malekith. Malekith is a boss that actually needs more health, you hit him with like four jumping attacks in phase two and he’s dead.
