In the early 90’s I had £2 quid school dinner money I use to buy 10 B&H sell 5 keep 5 for me earn enough to still buy my dinner and still saved enough to pay for a perm at the hair dressers lol
The Pete Beale character was real old school East End. Sad day when he left. He was a quality actor. A guy who plays The Style Council is all good in my book.
Very well scripted this episode; silence at first, then Paul announces that Lou's gone. I'm also emotional seeing Ian, Paul and Dot in tears. (1:04) By the way, what was the device Ian pulled from Simon's sleeping bag?
They should have shown the clip where she dies. Or should I say when she dies. Lou beale was a legend. Family meetings. Her way or the high way. The granny love. All seemed to be realistic. She should have stayed to see the 10th anniversary. Surely she was still alive.
Andrew Dexter I was watching this show in the 1980s/1990s here in the US on the PBS channel (Public Broadcasting). Same channel I saw Black Adder, Waiting for God, Fawlty Towers and Are You Being Served?.loved them all.
@@Hulk2k6 No, that was a mistake. It left them with too much time to fill, not least because so many characters had left before 1990 arrived. The 90s was really good, but faltered by 1997-as soon as they discovered killing off characters was a 'brill' idea, it went into dumb overdrive. By 2002, the show was pretty much died. 1985-1989 though can't be bettered. Barely any of the 80s characters made it to the 90s. This was a massive harm, but still the new 90s characters were good too. But then the 90s ended!
1985-89 was the shows best era not to be beaten! 1990 & 1991 were still good 1992 onwards was up and down, too Mitchell centric, by 2000-06 was electric! But EE had died completely by 2007
Can someone remind me, what is the beef between Ian Beale and Steven? (in the show these days) I remember something years ago, but I dont remember the details, what was it?
Aww. The bit where Dot suddenly notices she's wearing a now dead friend's cardigan is pretty comical in a sad way
I was only 6 at the time, but I cried like crazy when I watched this episode.
That episode was like 11 years before I was born.
Nothing was ever same without old battleaxe. She was heart and soul of this show for three years.
I was a baby when this happened.
I would have been 6 as well, I remember this like it was yesterday
Who's still watching in 2020 . EastEnders at it best . It needs to go back to how it used to be .
Haven’t watched Eastenders in over 15 years. One load of Utter Crap. Over the top storylines and atrocious acting.
It is scary to think how many of these characters are now 6ft under! (Pete, Kathy, Arthur, Pauline, Frank, Pat, Den, etc)
Hulk2k6 Kathy is back
@Dan Beaumont Like most the current cast do. We've seen Alfie, Mel and Ray all come back from the dead in under two weeks lol.
@Dan Beaumont TBF, Everyone assumed she was at the time and I did write that in 2011/12
dot will be next

Strange seeing Ian so young
Shame Pete left, these were the good old days of when I watched eastenders.
pics he died didn’t he?
A lot of people seem to dislike Pete, I for one love him as a character
He got sacked had to leave
Peter Sne died

I think Angie and Lou became outmoded characters in Thatcher's Britain. They both left in the same year: 1988.
Don't you dare criticize Pat! Miss St. Clement was always dressed with style earlier on in the role.

Nothing. He tugged at the sleeping bag to get Wicksy up.
R I P Lou Beale
8:19 - “Do you think Mr. Hopdidoodah will mind if I close up”? Haha
Dot sounds so different. Her voice is much higher then it is now
Smoking!
Same with Pauline. She had a high-pitched voice back then. In the 90's, She had a lower voice.

Kathy is still with us returned after all thise years
9.05 When dot realised she was wearing Lou's cardigan 😂😂😂
She would have been 78 then, the vicar said in the next clip she was born in 1910 and this was 1988
Assad Elfarouki I know that! Ain't thick

The actress died 2 years ago, actually.
Ben Attwood 10th anniversary happened in 95. I was referring her death as lou beale. Not anna wing. She died recently just after wendy richards
TCL TED and
I always wished that Lou did stay in the 90s, especially her meeting Peggy, two formidable matriarchs
Jay Jay imagine the fights
RIP Anna Wing.
Keep forgetting Fowlers had well decorated & fluffy tea pots. And Kathy looks amazing as normal.
''Do you think Mr Hoppydoppy-doo-dah would mind me closing up?'' - I LOL'd during an otherwise sad episode!
"Ooh, I say!"
Lol😂x

When Eastenders was good, then came the 90's.
The 90s were a great period for the show. Things took off when they when they got that magical third episode ala Corrie and Brookside.

As soon as those two peanut heads the Mitchell brothers hit the square it started to go downhill.

Arthur was secretly happy. Does anyone remember when he spray painted "Lou Beale RIP - thank god" on the wall of the brothel owned by Frank Butcher?
No phones no internet and good old fashioned life how it was is how it shud stil be but this is 2024 and this way of life is unfortunately no more 😐
yer pat thought that she would last forever and she did shes still alive today.
Nothing like the old eastenders
Lou Beale was a granny and I wish I was in eastenders 1985.
G they all look so young,
Can someone remind me, what is the beef between Ian Beale and Steven? (in the show these days) I remember something years ago, but I dont remember the details, what was it?
He kidnapped Ian and shot Jane causing her to have a hysterectomy
Really? Ok thanks for clearing that up! : ))
yortzandat not to be able to have children
Do you mean, causing Jane to have a miscarriage?
welshdragon2008 no when he shot jane he damaged her reproduction organs so the had to be removed
Omg, I kinda feel sorry for Ian Beale!
Old days
"Mr Oppidoodah" hahahaha!!!!😂😂
Poor ian

Three people to make the tea?
Yes, the decent thing to do - leave the twins alone for a bit to mourn the loss of their mother.
I didn't know Pauline and Pete were twins 0.0
+momsterous it is not efficient though is it?
@@version736ha2 no but it's respect, leaving the siblings alone for a few minutes

Pauline and Pete’s brother
Wife of the above though 😂🤣🤣
Dr leg

Kathy not dead
Ian Beale the Squeal. The most annoying character.
The acting was so bad 😂
You can still hear the market going on even though Lou has gone.
It's funny how Dot wanted a nice posh accent to ring the undertakers.
Arthur struggled to cope with emotion. Stiff upper lip. Pauline really needed a cuddle.
Not sure how Susan Tully ever left Eastenders.
