I don’t know why it took so long for Corrie to run a teenage pregnancy storyline with Sarah Lou. I remember Michelle’s story attracted lots of attention at the time, there was a press article with the headline good girls get pregnant too. It was all the more topical as Madonna’s Papa Don’t Preach was in the charts that year too.
I had Braxton hicks contractions for like 2/3 days b4 I went into labour aha I had a bath when my contractions where less than 2 mins apart because I didn’t realise it was the real thing and that less than 2 mins means that the shows begun cause I didn’t wanna wake my mum to tell her 😂😂
Was just thinking the the same. I haven’t watched EE recently but if you watch the ones from 20 years ago (e.g 2003/05) - which are on UA-cam - most of the square don’t have a washing machine , which was unusual considering many of them own businesses etc!
Lou was angry at the time with Pauline but then when the baby came she was happy and over the moon I guess she was more understanding considering she was younger 🤷🏽♀️
@@josephmullin5845 My aunt was 40 when she had my 'oops' cousin in 1965. She was embarrassed that the neighbors would see that she was pregnant and gossip about her. I don't know what she thought they would say, possibly that she was some kind of a pervert, even though she had been married to my uncle for 15 years and they had a 12 year old and a 10 year old. She typically saw her mother once every four to six weeks. But she was so afraid of her mother scolding her for being pregnant at 40. My grandmother had no idea why her daughter kept having things come up and would be unable to see her. My dad and his 2 siblings told my aunt she was being ridiculous. They finally had enough when my grandmother showed up at my aunt's door asking what in the world was going on. My aunt refused to open the door and told her to go away. When my grandmother was told that my aunt was pregnant and that she was just so embarrassed and afraid of my grandma's reaction, my grandma just rolled her eyes and told my aunt that she was being an idiot.
I know this is from a year ago. Lou would've known she was a hypocrite if she was angry at Michelle and also felt empathetic with Michelle because Lou and Albert had a baby in the 30s (I think) before they got married. I think she got angry at Pauline for getting pregnant later on because the family had little financial stability what with multiple people living in a 2 bed house and Arthur was constantly losing and in between jobs so really they were struggling enough at that point already. So Lou must've felt that they should known better than to bring a baby into such financial instability but she was overjoyed when Martin was born.

Michelle, come back to Walford NOW! You've been gone for 20 years! Did you even attend the funerals of your father, mother, and brother Mark? I don't think you did!

lol. You couldn’t just buy a new kitchen on the cheap from IKEA in those days you know 😂 . House fixings rarely got replaced , and furniture was handed down. Make do and mend.
Just realized once Vicki was born there was four generations of women in that family Lou as great gran, Pauline as gran, Michelle as mum and Vicki
@Rhys Hoffman especially today there’s like 6 generations of women under one roof so many Teen Mothers since the 80s

Wow... Lofty was such a good guy - was well ahead of his time too for the 80s, being interested in parenthood etc.
The nurse is blossom Alan Jackson s gran . Love the old days

I prefer this Michelle to other one
It's a bit weird when distinctive characters are recast
@Rhys Hoffman apparently Susan Tully didn’t want to return
this is brilliant...remember this x

this one is very good thank you
The Fowlers didn’t have a phone line and had to use the café pay phone to ring round family. Unbelievable for 1987

Lofty was a gem. A shame that Michelle treated him so bad

Possibly because she felt Pauline was too old to be getting pregnant. Even said "having a kid when you're on the dole at you're age".

Alan Jackson's grandmother
You're right she did!!
I like that midwife, so sensible!
She's played Blossom Jackson years later.
But Sharon's father is also den so that makes them half sisters
