Maybe drampa is normal because kids love dragons tell me of a kid that wanted a dinosaur or a dragon because they tough it was cool/awesome and wished for one to obliterate a bully xD maybe is because of that everyone when they where kids wanted a dragon so its normal maybe that's why drampa is normal xD
i think drampa is based on hermits, people that live in the mountains and are said to live a lot of years, even centuries and be old as dragons. but thats just me...
I've thought "Normal" is their miscellaneous type, what they use when they haven't made a type for a poke'mon, or can't match a poke'mon to an existing type.
I think the best defining characteristic of the Normal type isn't "oh it's a normal creature", but instead looks more into how they prefer to fight. Think of it this way: When you ask, "What's the best way to damage an opponent?" how would Pokémon of various types respond? A Fire type might say, "Use heat or fire." A Fighting type might say, "Deliver a practiced blow." A Dark type might say, "Do whatever it takes, and don't worry about being vicious." And a Normal type might say, "Just hit 'em hard." To me, that encapsulates the Normal type pretty well. Normal isn't exactly a lack of anything else; it's more a preference for simplicity. As for why Normal is a stand-in for "Sound", I think it's closely related to the way physical and special moves are divided. Physical moves almost always strike the target with something solid; special moves use some form of fluid or energy instead. So, what's a simple (i.e. Normal-type) way to attack using fluid or energy? Well, sound waves use both! A third of all special Normal-type moves are sound-based.
Ooooh that makes a lot of sense. It puts into perspective more why normal type moves are just basic attacks, like scratch and tackle. Even the extra powerful moves make sense. Giga impact is just an ultra powerful tackle/body slam.
To me, Drampa works as a "Normal" Pokemon, because he's like a dragon, just super suuuuuper chilled-out. Like, in a "You visit your grandparents and just kind of listen to them for four hours" kind of way. A little bit boring, like you said, but it's exactly what you expect from your grandparents. It's just... normal. Same with Drampa. When Drampa just plops down on the patio and starts repeating its name for hours on end to tell you an epic tale from its youth unprompted, you just kind of expect it and nod along. You wouldn't expect a Druddigon or a Haxorus to spend an afternoon volunteering at a foodbank, though it would be a pleasant surprise. But Drampa? It's normal.
Honestly, it's always perplexed me why Hoothoot and Noctowl are Flying/Normal instead of Flying/Psychic considering how many Psychic moves they can learn.

Normal seems like it means ordinary. Things that you would see in a town or village and don't think anything about that. Even the grandpa dragon can be explained like this: Imagine a normal town. Imagine the personality of a grandpa. magine that personality combined with a small dragon-ish body. Ta-Da! In the pokemon world fiery lizards and living gears aren't especially unusual. To us, it's fantasy. To them, it's reality.
Oranguru probably holds a hint as to why Drampa has the normal typing. It's a bit closer to home, more relatable and grounded, not so hyper specialized. Pure dragon types are fierce. Drampa is almost like a pet.
It's a shame that in recent generations, there appears to have been a shift towards every Pokémon having some special properties by decree, leaving the Normal type as the "Bland type". Normal used to be an OP typing in gen I. It was one of the few physical types that had pretty much nothing to fear when going up against Psychic types, and as such, were your go-to Psychic type counters. As far as Ghosts are concerned, only Gengar exists to stop you, and Rock types Golem and Rhydon. Outside of that, everything took neutral damage from you. Most Normals in gen I had the coverage to demolish those three regardless. Getting STAB on the OP gen I Hyper Beam? Excellent. Unable to be paralyzed by opposing Body Slams? Icing on the cake.
and before anyone mentions the fighting type: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA you think fighting is good in gen 1? even outside of being bodied by psychic, Fighting's best move in gen 1 is the 80BP/80Acc Submission
@@Pihsrosnec Atleast gen 1 gengar has a decent niche, being a fast, normal-immune, sleep user. nowhere close to top tier, but more than certainly usable
That's almost literally how I first referred to him XD "oh, and gen 7 has that weird looking snake thing" - huh? "you know, that Dunsparce evolution" - Ooooooooooh. Wait. Isn't that just a pokemon on its own? "idk"
I actually have a huge soft spot for Normal type Pokemon just because something about little monsters resembling simplified real animals appeals to me specifically. This video also helped me realize why the idea of a Sound type never sat well with me: it'd interfere with too many Normal type Pokemon and maybe even render the whole type obsolete.
Rotom is electric ghost so not normal. His gimmick makes is that he loses the electric type or maybe he loses the ghost typing and gained different typing spaced on what hes in
As of SwSh, GF has finally realized that a regular bird can be plain Flying and doesn't have to be part Normal. However, design-wise I don't see anything in Rookidee or Corvisquire that makes them appear any less normal than, say, Staravia. If we assume that most regular bird Pokemon that are Normal/Flying should just be pure Flying, are there any that are especially plain and absolutely should be part Normal, similar to how Bibarel is a bit too normal to be a pure Water-type?
I mean, Doduo and Dodrio are flightless birds, so they are less "Flying" than the others. They can stay Normal/Flying. Chatot can keep its Normal type too so it gets STAB on all those sound-based moves (I assume that's why Meloetta and Wigglytuff are part Normal as well). The rest should be pure Flying.
The Rookidee line has a knighthood theming in their design, which justifies the steel typing. The first two birds in the evolutionary line probably are pure flying for purely balancing reasons. The other regional birds have no such theming though, as they're mostly based on common species of birds, Nocktowl included.
I'm not a native English speaker and until today i've pronounced Linoone as Lee-no-one... thanks to you I now have a good way to remember how it's said lol
Oh, hello there, Vaporeon! I was just curious about if you heard about the cursed copypasta about you. If you (were unfortunate enough to) have heard about it, what do you think about it?
Eeeeyyyyyy, no way! It's the Sound type button from my New Types series at 8:33! :D Made me stop and do a double take while I was watching though it, lol. Never expected anyone would find it on a channel as small as mine. :)
I think the logic behind the Porygon line is similar to Eevee, Ditto, Castform, Arceus, and Silvally: Conversion and Conversion 2 are its signature moves so it's associated with type shifting and thus Normal is being treated as the "default type." Best I can think of for Drampa is that it's because it has mammalian and reptilian traits, and a lot of Normal-types are mammals while many Dragon-types are reptiles. Pretty flimsy reasoning either way.
Honestly, with Helioptile and Heliolisk's powers coming from the sun, shouldn't they be Electric/Fire instead of Normal? They can learn a decent amount of fire movesl, and most Pokemon connected with the sun (aside from Solgaleo, I guess) have Fire somewhere.
It might be due to it getting its power from the sun that it's normal. It's not some mythical creature that can just cast lightning, it has to actually get it from somewhere.
Normal dragon would be a case of having all aspects of a dragon but no elements to it, no fire, no ice breath nothing special its all about claw swipes and stuff
@Sumera Paleema That is true but it may learn a fire move but it doesnt mean its a fire typing, sort of like only knowing one martial art move, does that make you a martial artist? the obvious answer, no, plus It is possible the pokemon causes a fire indirectly maybe sapping moisture from the surrounding area making it extremely dry and combustable but just because the pokemon can learn a single fire type move or has a natural fire breathing ability but can only be used under certain conditions does not count as fire typing
My mom once suggested that the Normal type might be more like an "unclassified" type, so they've got some things that simply aren't specialized the way other types are, or they're specialized in a weird way that doesn't fit into the other types, or they've got Normal Type as a a placeholder classification until researchers can figure out what to call them.
@@livedandletdie they can fly in the games, but their inspirations (Dodo and Penguin) are flightless birds, which is what I think Lindsay is talking about. Also, Lindsay, they are flying type because as mentioned in the video Flying type used to be just Bird type in the beta code and stuff, so it just transferred over like that.
@@krannisern4612 that would make sense. Though in the Pokemon Stadium games whenever Doduo or Dodrio use Fly it shows them petalling their legs like they are on a bike or something.
@@monkey_blu I've got an argument for why some of them aren't normal, specifically the birds. In fact, to quote an ornithologist (bird scientist) when she was introduced to pokemon: "What about birds is immune to ghosts?" no but seriously, why are the birds immune to ghosts, why?!
Canais Young I was able to beat the Miltank in two hits because I always grind my Pokémon to higher levels (at least 15 levels higher than the gym's Pokémon), so my Pokémon are always tanks.
Normal are the most under rated type most of them have strong moves in their first form so you have to not evole them to get those powerful moves such as slaking not having a fairy type move but his first evolution form having a fairy type move so you have to level it up to get it before evolution.
Well, it may be its display, but fundamentally it is still composed of no other material than electric signals manifesting in a display that gives tangibility and a specific place and time in reality.
@@Betterthanever-m2iCode that is stored on a CD does not use electricity. Also data can be transmitted using radio waves and optics. Making the Porygon line Electric type makes no sense because they are not bound by a certain medium. Information processing is an abstract concept which can also be performed without electricity. Though it does make sense for the Porygon line to learn a lot of Electric moves since electricity does lend itself well to information processing.
I think Drampa's a Normal type because it usually doesn't act like much of a dragon type. It's mostly very gentle and harmless; it's literally The Placid Pokemon. Kind of the opposite of the untamed powerful energy of a dragon. EXCEPT for when it gets angry, which is when it unleashes its dragony rage. Hence why it's partially dragon, but that is not its main type because it's only like this when it's in the mood to be. (Though this doesn't explain why gentle affectionate Altaria is still Dragon. Maybe its just too full of mystical energy. Whatever, everyone knows Altaria's a weird type.)
I actually named mine Pachelbel. I didn't wanna generalize the Toucan Pokemon, which is based off of my FAVORITE kind of bird. It's only coincedence that Froot Loops also happens to be my favorite cereal.

Normal is honestly one of the most abstract types in existence it's kinda crazy
Drampa origins that Zhulong, a human but with a dragons body so Normal>dragon
Icing on the cake.
and before anyone mentions the fighting type:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA you think fighting is good in gen 1? even outside of being bodied by psychic, Fighting's best move in gen 1 is the 80BP/80Acc Submission

I wasn't ready for Lockstin's impression of staravia lmao
No one was no one
Dunsparce is my favorite Normal-type Pokemon. It's adorable.

17:31 he just predicted the whole COPPA thing lmao
I think the logic behind the Porygon line is similar to Eevee, Ditto, Castform, Arceus, and Silvally: Conversion and Conversion 2 are its signature moves so it's associated with type shifting and thus Normal is being treated as the "default type."
Best I can think of for Drampa is that it's because it has mammalian and reptilian traits, and a lot of Normal-types are mammals while many Dragon-types are reptiles. Pretty flimsy reasoning either way.
My excuse is Drampa is has some sound based moves and would be a normal occurrence since it is so friendly with the kids.
(Angey noises upon not seeing Togepi, Clefairy, and Granbull’s lines, even despite the fact that they are no longer normal)
16:55 I think it's normal because the other dragon pokemon have some sort of power, like fire, water, ect.
STANTLER HAS SHISHIODOSHI ON IT?! WOW! Also, so THAT’S what those mechanisms are called. I thought they were just special models of fountain.
Spinda is just DRUNK! idk why but the delivery of that line cracked me up XD
Spinda: z'ANd if you, ah, think yer be'er n' me you've gotta nother thing comin'."
if that means that it's normal to be always drunk in Pokemon universe, well...
To me Normal is a very “you know it when you see it” type, so it’s very fun watching you try and figure out why I know it when I see it
Pyroar's mane is made of fire, as said by it's Pokedex entry in X and OR.
Hm. Doesn't look like it. Man recent Pokémon designs suck. Those ones don't look too bad but, yeahhhh
The top of litleos head is actually like hot coals. You can find this out by petting it in Pokémon ami
Explain why flightless birds like delibird and dodrio are the flying type.
Dodrio can learn fly... Delibird can learn fly... hence they are not flightless birds...
Imagine them flapping their leg/heads to work as wings.
@@livedandletdie every time i see doduo or dodrio using fly i imagine it using his heads like the blades of a helicopter XD

@@canaisyoung3601 That just makes the argument about it more valid.
Some how I beat her in one try but it took me a while to beat all the other johto gym leaders
Canais Young I was able to beat the Miltank in two hits because I always grind my Pokémon to higher levels (at least 15 levels higher than the gym's Pokémon), so my Pokémon are always tanks.
Just use fighting type
Maybe the more eastern inspiration of the dragon makes it normal relative to Japanese culture, opposed to more western based dragon types
Normal are the most under rated type most of them have strong moves in their first form so you have to not evole them to get those powerful moves such as slaking not having a fairy type move but his first evolution form having a fairy type move so you have to level it up to get it before evolution.
no, progamming code, is not nessiarily electric
most all coding is text based... and words are pretty normal
Well, it may be its display, but fundamentally it is still composed of no other material than electric signals manifesting in a display that gives
tangibility and a specific place and time in reality.
cause now i can see a floppy disc evolve to a cd evolve to a usb stick
Link to a programming code that doesn't use electricity? The text on a computer would be whatever program interpreted the 1s and 0s
Also its Signature moves Conversion and Conversion 2 mean its typing categorizes it with Castform.

Oh I'm sure he knows
