I love it when I find a Paul Harrell video I haven't seen yet! Unfortunately I usually realize I have seen it .. just forgot to give it a 👍 ..so I watch it again, and give it a 👍 and a comment. Thank you Paul.
I used this video today to educate an "expert" on 38 super +P at a steel target shoot. You are alot more convincing than Wikipedia and I didn't want to see his lips move when he read it. Thank you.
I love Paul's videos because he does not trend with everyone else and compare nothing but new cartridges and firearms. He compares classics and modern of both back to back, which really brings up the nostalgia at the same time showing that classic is still as good as modern!
@@calebh7902may we continue to learn from him. -- I am interested in the 40 super, brought me to the 38 super... And Paul is a 38 super fan... WHY? (SO, HERE I AM).
i own 3 glocks. none in 9mm. infact, while i have owned more glocks than any other brand, other than smith and wesson and i've owned more 9mms than any other caliber, the majority of the glocks were not 9mm. infact just 2, a 17 and a 19 neither of which i own now. i've owned a 17, 19, 20,22,36,37 and 39.
Hey Paul fellow Marine here and patreon supporter just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate all the content and all your videos are really well made man thank you for this stuff.
Ammunition availability must vary wildly by area across the country; here in Virginia .357 Sig is pretty easy to find, as our State Police use it, whereas the .38 Super shows up about as often as 7mm Mauser! Badass video as always, by the way!
I took a deer with underwoods loading of the 147 grain XTP 357 sig from my p250c at about 5 yards. It was stuck in a fence and the poor thing had pretty much torn its leg off so it was the only humane thing to do. Regardless it was fast and humane, I would see no issue with using the same round to hunt a deer with if one was hunting with a handgun. (Note, meat was not wasted it was processed and then donated to a local homeless shelter)
i too have taken a deer at 50 yrd with a beretta 92f compact hit in the spine just below the tip of the ear animal was killed on the spot and never ran. like taking a broom and sweeping the legs out from under it. i have also hit a deer with a 300 weatherby mag the damn thing too of like a shot with a single leg near blown off and the opposing short completely destroyed. and yet it was able to run over 150yrds befor laying to die finally. goes to show power without good shot placement means very lil.
I can't figure out how you only have 85 thousand subs, You sir deserve a shit ton more subs. Your videos are more educational than half of the vids on UA-cam. Keep up the great work Paul.
2024.... Out with a bang and 1 million subs. (I was one of the first 100k). Man I miss Paul, BUT, I have pop tarts more often now. (Especially at deer and elk camp)!
Let's go crunch the numbers. We're at the range today so please ignore any gunfire you might hear. Seems okay to me. To answer that we have to back to the 1800s. You be the judge. Where it hit a rib SHATTERED it. (Also available in PULVERIZED).
Have a picture of pork chops on the front saying "pork chop pectoral" and on the back "high tech fleece bullet stop." Put that on a fleece range coat and you would sale a lot I'm sure.
My late father loved the .38 super from a 1911! He was a 1911 guy anyway, but as he put it ".38 super is a specialist's round" hits harder than 9mm recoil compares to .45acp, an extra round in the mag, etc.. It's good to see someone comparing it to its competition, and for a 90 year old cartridge, it still packs a whollop.
@StringerNews1 The old late 1930s loading was 130 gr at 1300. It was developed in the 1930s because the 45 ACP was not great at penetrating car bodies. And all the bad guys were driving cars. Many lawmen carried including some Texas Rangers. But in later years its been loaded down since its the same case as the 38 ACP and the early Browning autos in 38 ACP were too weak for 130 gr at 1300. The newer chambers head space off the case mouth and are more accurate than the early guns. A TRUE 38 Super +P would move a 124 gr over 1350 as it will do with ease. Instead the factory stuff is about 1150-1200. Was popular for a time in competition because it would make major power factor with less recoil than the 45 ACP. At 50 yards its a one shot stopper on a four legged Coyote with a shoulder shot. With Starline brass it will exceed 357 sig easily with no pressure signs or bulged brass. The velocity makes it an effective 100 yard load or even a little farther. There were even Thompson SMGs made in Super.
Hey Paul, did you ever find my Luis Vitonne leather jacket that I forgot and left at your place the last time I visited? With the price of fuel, I don't know the next time I will get out West to pick it up. If you need to wear or use it, fine, but for sentimental reasons I will try to get by sometime to pick it up. Thanks, very informative and helpful comparison.
Videos like this are essential for "old fogies" like me to stay current with new developments. .357 Sig "approaches" the .357 magnum performance levels, using a bottle neck case. I had no idea that it was so much more powerful than the 38 Super. Thanks for all the work on this Paul, we really appreciate it.
Best no BS informative caliber war videos on UA-cam. Love your historical knowledge, standardized testing, and unbiased assessment of results. Personal to me, I've been debating my work carry .357 SIG pistol for carry, but have stuck to my commander 1911 in .45 due to fears of over penetration. So this was a real eye opener for me. Side note, Sig Sauer makes 1911's chambered in .357 SIG in commander and full size.
Paul, thank you VERY much for this EXCELLENT video. I was one of the guys who asked for a .38 Super - .357 Sig comparison, and your demonstrated analysis really answers my questions and provides precisely the information I was hoping to see. So, again, I thank you. Please permit me to offer two comments: 1. If you believe the marketing folks at Remington’s ammunition division have never heard of you, well, I believe you’re modest but incorrect. Your credibility, expertise, and honesty are clear as well as INFLUENTIAL (for example, the reason my H&K USP Tactical, which is about a foot from this laptop, is loaded with “old fashion” 230 grain, .45 ACP Golden Sabers is Paul Harrell). 2. I was impressed with the velocity differential - substantially favoring the .357 Sig - which you documented. It seems potentially noteworthy that the Glock’s barrel is somewhat shorter than either the 1911’s or the Beretta’s. Of course, that would likely mean - with equal barrel lengths - the comparison would favor the .357 Sig even more (as you noted in your summary remarks).
I love the .38 Super, I have a Colt 1911 Government, Taurus PT 38, and EAA Witness. I think it is a great self-defense round. I wish Glock would do a .38 Super. Keep up the good work. Great presentation, I love your work and style. But I do wish you would wear eye protection all the time while shooting, it sets a good example to younger shooters.
You're awesome! Down to earth reviews and logical reviews. So glad you didn't get screwed on that ...thing. I'm an NRA pistol/shotgun/home-defense instructor (with 30 years as Navy Spec-Ops), and I "unofficially" recommended your channel to all my students. Your info is as good as gold. :-)
Thanks, Paul! Another interesting video. I would have thought the 38 Super would perform better than it did, but that's why your videos are so educational. The Sig-Sauer ammunition was very impressive.
I got a .357 sig Forest Lake match grade conversion barrel for my .40 Glock G22 one Christmas from my father-in-law. Even with the difference in expense for ammo, I'll never go back to .40. The difference in accuracy is night and day and it just fees so much more satisfying when firing the .357 sig.
You are still 1 of the very best on the internet. You need a full line of " let's ask the meat target" items. Bumper stickers, shirts, hats, range targets. Etc.... Great video as always
As always, Paul delivers in all ways with a very concise and informative knowledge. Paul, Two thumbs up! Excellent video. This really answered some questions I had about .357 sig. without a doubt the best channel on UA-cam. Thanks Paul for all that you do for the firearms community. Outstanding !!
thank you so much for using the sig sauer hollowpoints, I picked up some of them for my 9 mm carry gun (that's what the store had) and am very pleased to see the kind of performance that they gave you in the meat target.
I hope you write a script, because if you're ad-libbing this stuff solo then you have an amazing ability to reach into the mind of the sceptic and smoothly address questions that will come up. You do a great job. Thanks!
Anyone else notice the very minimal muzzle flip? Thats just "some" evidence of how many rounds this man has sent down range. Ill take his advice over most others on UA-cam.
Yes sir, specially with the .357 Sig Glock 31, oh and let's not forget he put about 20 rounds through a Chrony while being 7 meters away or so and not only the Chrony didn't even flinch (haha!), but also, he was able to read those results from that distance, too! This fine gent certainly gathers most if not all of the important qualities I'd want to see in a gun instructor.
ferna2294 yeah..... We know. The term "flip for me means a full turn. How could flip be even close to not even a 40 degree angel in which the gun recoils. Please tell me how the guns vertical recoil has anything to do with a "flip" is your gun doing a back flip? Do you say I flipped my car when it raises off the ground if you have excess horsepower to lift the front tires of the ground? When you flip a coin do you just raise it to a angel higher of its original position? No. There is no "flip" involved. Correct or not it just sounds ignorant. Let me just flip my gun. Think about it. Either way I wont ever say flip.
Remington better start sending you ammo. If they know what's good for them. Dun duuun duuuuuuuun dramatic reverb! Straight to the point, informative and sometimes amusing videos.
It's best that he doesn't accept any freebies. That would cause many to question his integrity. Unfortunately, among the You Tube audience it seems most people can't accept that if you accept anything from anyone you can still speak your honest opinion of their products, or their competitions products. It's very unfortunate but true. So long as he isn't being gifted anything, other than from a viewer, nobody can really question his integrity with any integrity of their own.
Mr.Harrell, Your work is much appreciated and at the top of many viewers list! I know this because I see your name being referenced within different video's comment section. You are respected by the viewing community. Thank you Sir! Now, I have searched the world over for true love :) looking for a real world comparison of the .357 SIG vs .45 ACP and come across every possible combination but this one. So, as a humble viewer who is very seriously considering moving from .45 ACP to .357SIG for carry, I would respectfully ask and appreciate at least one of your comprehensive, thorough and real world test comparisons i.e. meat test, between these two calibers. You are the only reviewer that I have come across that actually 'matches' ammunition to be as close to equal as possible and you clearly to us exactly what you are shooting along with your providing data in chart form for us to comprehend. Thank you again for all of your work!
Mike If you are the type of person who doesn’t put cost or price before your life and family safety the .357 Sig is a really great choice for self preservation.
toddy2519 Maximum chamber pressure doesn't mean all that much. .357 Sig has a Max pressure higher than a 10mm (35, 500 I believe), but the 10 is generally a more potent round. Max pressure just relates to the thickness of brass on the casing.
" Max pressure just relates to the thickness of brass on the casing." Brass thickness has nothing to do with chamber pressures. Chamber pressure is established by SAAMI as the maximum average safe operating pressure before a possible chamber failure. Consider the .357 magnum at 35,000 psi which is the same as for 9mm Parabellum. The .25 Auto has a SAAMI pressure of 25,000 psi. Chamber pressure means a lot and 5,000 psi difference is very meaningful! If you are a reloader, please be sure and let me know ahead of time before you head for the range, as I don't want to be there when you are!
toddy2519 So by your estimation the .357 Sig is a more powerful round than the 50 AE (36,000 psi)? That is a hell of a round then if it's out pacing a Desert Eagle.
I can only repeat what other people have said : this is the the best channel on UA-cam re firearms topics. You research topics that everyone wants answers to, in a clear and concise way, and without any B. S.!
I appreciate Paul's unaffected and objective analysis. He gives pertinent, qualified information and doesn't let any personal preferences come into play in this vid. It is obvious that this man shoots a lot and well, and has studied and considered all aspects of what he's doing. Thanks for a great vid paul, and extra thanks for doing a vid that includes the .38 Super - a competent but often ignored round.

I Think It's Probably His Phone Doing It Because If It Was Keyboard You'd Have To Toggle Shift With Each Word, whereas phones have an auto capitalize feature that works at the beginning of sentences. It's kind of hard to do with a keyboard. But he may be older, not all of us are young computer enthusiasts. Maybe he's spacing twice or something on his phone and it's thinking each word is a new sentence. I see this a lot and its just my thoughts on it. Now, for the part you won't like. I don't think Paul is as big a fan of the 1911 as you may think. He's been pretty critical of it and explained that for about 98% of us, there's no reason to have a 1911 when you can get much better capacity in 9mm or .40 S&W. I like the 1911, don't get me wrong. It's the original American auto loading classic. It was the standard of firearms for many a year. But I think today, in most cases, you'd be better off carrying something else. However, 1911 has a huge fanbase of collectors and shooters. And they are also used very often in competitions. So obviously I'd never say it's terrible, it's not. But I remember Paul talking about 9mm being better for most people to carry, which is true, unless you're a comp shooter carrying a regular caliber space gun with upgrades the equivalent of the original purchase price. I'm a .40 S&W G23 with the 24 round mag kind of guy. I carry 24+1 and then two other regular sized mags, one in the console of my vehicle, one in my inside jacket pocket.
Paul I like your videos so much I've decided to finally get off my butt and sign up for a parteon account so I can help keep your videos going. Thanks for the great videos.
It's always impressive to see Paul shooting through the Crony. If that was me shooting that far away from the Crony I would be replacing 2 or 3 dozen of them every year.
I'm quite late to the comments but just want to say the vid was interesting, informative, thorough and delivered in a way that kept me watching until the end! New subscriber here.
Another in depth and excellent video from the pinnacle of professionalism. Thank you addressing all of the salient points needed in this presentation. I enjoy the .357 Sig but the cost of ammunition is prohibitive to say the lest.
I had to use my pistol chambered in .357sig in a defensive situation and yeah it’s very effective. I’m surprised this round hasn’t caught on. It’s better than 9mm, more versatile than 10mm and .40.
steve lemieux I did this a few months back. I'm sure, as you now know, it was one of the best investments you ever made. Target ammo is pricey but I buy it online for .40/rd, on sale and in bulk. I'm saving my brass and have dies to one day reload. Every time I shoot the 357 Sig out of my G22, it puts a splitting grin on my face I can't wipe off all day. So much more felt power, accurate, makes your 40 suddenly feel like it took an NZT pill, right?
This is one of my favorite openings. I dont judge based on the intro, but i do enjoy this one. Good to see you, Sir. Im ever a dan of every production you give us. My prayers are with you and yours, Sir. God Bless You.
.38 Super suffers from the same problem as 10mm ... its an awesome caliber if you hand load, but 90%+ of factory loaded ammo in those calibers is severely under-loaded.
If you want the 38 Super updated to modern specs, try the 9x23 Winchester. Similar in size, the 9x23's SAAMI average pressure is 55,000 psi, same as the 223 Remington rifle cartridge. The 9x23 delivers the 357 mag performance in a straight walled case.
You are correct. There are a couple manufacturers that put out decent loads up to .38 Super potential or At least close. It can and does keep up with the .357 Sig given the right ammunition
Of course the same can be said of the 357 sig. Underwoods loadings are more in line with intended velocity and energy. But I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with the Remington loading for 357 sig here. I didn’t think it would be as hot as it was.👍
@@davidcalderwood1 Movie really should be a comparison of .357 Sig and 9x23 Win. The cartridges seem to go hand in hand in performance, age, and velocity, and available bullet weights.
I have shot a deer with my glock 32 in 357 sig. I used underwood 125 grn bonded rounds and it is a devastating round. It blew the lung out of the entrance hole and it died very fast.
But let's not forget that the .38 SUPER can be easily converted (on some firearms) to 9mm SuperCooper (sometimes called .38 SuperCooper). Using cut down .223 brass, it can get around 1750 fps with 125 gr bullets and 2000 fps with 90 gr bullets. "Guns & Ammo" -- December 1973, page 33
Hey Paul, if you're looking for 1911 style 357 Sig I do know that Lone Wolf makes some conversion barrels for .40 S&W CZ pistols. (I would love to get my hands on a P-06 and convert it over to 357 Sig but I'm a little too poor for that.) Also, Sig Sauer makes some 1911s in caliber 357 Sig, no surprises there, you just need to pay them your arm, leg, and firstborn son.
Badass video!! About time someone does a review on 38 super! Seems like everyone on band wagon block 19 9mm lol Mexico loves the 1911 in 38 super! Very popular down there! Seemed to me like it had the best fireballs! It's a caliber that is used by many gangsters and drug cartels tho... didn't know 357 Sig traveled that fast!! U should do a 357 Sig vs. 5.7x28mm!!!
Isn't it popular because civilians can't have 9x19 in Mexico? I'm not saying its a bad round, but that it got popular because they couldnt have what they really wanted.
traumajock no it's popular because it's a very lethal and its in a 1911 mexicans love 1911s. 38super round is pretty much a 9mm on steroids and cause .45acp its not permitted by civilians over there. But I mean now a days nothing is permitted cause of the drug cartels. They see u with a gun over there n they either gonna take it away n kill u or rob u. Yes the cops n cartels both. they work together
MilTech Moto na man sadly those guys are well trained some even military level and are well armed. With the $ they got they get heavy artillery and they roll up 15 to 30 deep in several pick up trucks from all angles. It's ridiculous and sad
I have been considering shopping for a new sidearm for concealed carry and further considering something other than 9mm, .40 cal or .45 cal. Your presentation today has helped tremendously. Thanks again for another excellent offering!
Maybe it was only my own impression, but it seemed that the flash and evident recoil of the .38 super was more pronounced than that of the .357 Sig, even though the chrono numbers suggested it would be otherwise.
+Bob G ...I saw the extra flash on the 38 Super as well, seems like the signature of wasted gunpowder to me. Like a more minor version of what you get from a snub nose 357 Magnum: powerful blast, powerful recoil, but significantly reduced muzzle velocity.
was gonna add same comment. I"ve never been around much of the 38 supers, but every .357 sig I've seen shot indoors has a HUGE ball of flame and I often joke about being able to read by the light of it. So, I was anticipating it would be more than the 38 sup on this video and was surprised ..... now I need to see the 38 super indoors. I know there are a lot of variables, powder types being the obvious major types..... I had a bare barrel ar15 years ago and normal flash with most mil spec ammo, but the Guat stuff I shot around dusk literally shocked me and my onlookers. After I shot a bit, some wanted to shoot it but even more just wanted to sit around and watch the fireballs! This was in the mid 90's. But lesson learned was mil surplus ammo could vary greatly in flash signature!!!
Paul has done his research as usual, and this particular comparison was just what I was interested in knowing about the old .38 Super round. It is harder to find these niche calibers, but I like to save my brass and reload if I can and have the time. Kudos Sir and God Bless you and yours.
Andrew H ...problem with Underwood is that it's loaded to the max. Going to be hard on your gun, maybe hard on some shooters, not really the best for comparisons.
Paul, Sig Sauer makes an excellent 1911 chambered in .357 Sig, it’s called the 1911 Fastback Nightmare Carry. A co-worker of mine just purchased one, and loves it.
@@SteamControlValve Not all Glock fans are "Glock snobs". I don't want you to be sour over all Glock fans. Hell, I just bought a new Glock 3 days ago, but I also own Taurus, Sccy & other cheap guns. Carried a Ruger 57 today. Not everything has to be a Glock or some premium brand. Then again, I know not every Glock fan is the same as me.
Thanks for another interesting and scientific study. The famous gun writer and career law enforcement officer, Skeeter Skelton, wrote in praise of the 38 Super Auto, "...pass on the heine nine and go with the 38 Super!" He went on to say that the 38 Super produced 200 fps more velocity with a similar sized bullet. That discussion came in the 1980s when "wonder 9s" were coming on the market. I was surprised then when after the infamous Miami shootout the FBI did not seek the 38 Super but rather sought out a different cartridge, 10mm. The rest is history. Myself, I carried a Smith 586 throughtout my entire career as a rural deputy Sheriff, a federal agent and a Houston area police officer. However, toward the later years of my career in Houston, some of other more experienced duputies were leaving their veteran handguns, revolvers in 357 and big bore pistols, for more modern pistols with much greater capacity. It seems the gangsters had discovered high capacity also. So, I began a similar search for greater capacity while minimizing the loss of power compared to my 357. At the time, 40 S&W was the only option (I thought 357Sig would fail) and made plans for a Smith 3rd generation auto pistol. However, I had to retire before making the change. Since then, 357Sig has come along and has clearly demonstrated it compares very well with 357 Magnum but offers the same capacity of 40S&W. While I believe 38 Super deserves much more respect among pistol manufacturers, the fact remains that 357Sig, despite othe oddity of being a bottleneck case, has demonstrated maturity and consistent power and performance.
THANK YOU!! I've been trying to find some quality analysis videos on the .38 Super for a long time now. This is the *first* one that delivered any substance whatsoever. And comparing it head to head with the the .357 Sig and 9mm really added some useful insights. You're the best, Paul!
I thoroughly enjoy these videos. There is so much to consider when choosing a handgun and the ammunition for it. This channel is an invaluable resource to help sort through all of this to help make informed decisions. Oh yes, and the meat target is a welcome bonus. Cheers!
Found your videos just about two weeks ago. Like the straightforward and honest approach. Your informative comments and opinions like when you say "these are my top five, they are not recommendations" in your Concealed Carry: Pauls Top Five Handguns video really helps in making ones decision. I have a goal to watch all your videos. With that being said I'd like to know if your friends lend you guns for the videos. I'm always curious as to how many guns a person such as yourself owns. Going to email a link of your channel to my family and friends (many also have their LTC). Great work Paul.
The capacity for the 41 mag is higher and the pressure maxes are nearly the same. It would be good to compare with 30 shots each for velocity and then shoot the "meat target.
Warning; Odd comment: Paul, I am impressed with how well your blood flow is. I can sense how well your heart is working when you show us the bullets in your cold hands. If those were my hands, they'd be somewhat purple and I am younger than you.
The Rule is you should be in control of your gun at all times and know what your shooting at so I would say No Paul Harrell is to good of a shot for that!
Steve Saephanh I was pleasantly surprised as well... When I saw the chrono numbers... I thought that Remington really made a decent loading for the 357 sig. Good stuff.👍
Rated velocities for the.357 SIG are often out of 4" or even 3.5" barrels. His Glock 31 has a 4.5" barrel. The SIG's extra case volume, higher pressure, and relatively small bore means it responds really well to longer barrel lengths. Even an extra half-inch or inch can mean substantial velocity increases.
I recently stumbled upon this channel, and was hooked immediately. I love your straightforward, no-nonsense presentation style. And this is the point where I say "I'm what you call a subscriber". 😉
357sig 124 grain was made to mimic the 125 grain 357 Magnum round the 357sig was made to have a larger round capacity then 6 or now 8 in a 357 . This was before the 1911 Coonan 357 Magnum
Yep
If you inherit your grandpa's .38 Special snub nose you know you can find out how good it is from Paul's videos, but can also see .357 Sig.

i too have taken a deer at 50 yrd with a beretta 92f compact hit in the spine just below the tip of the ear animal was killed on the spot and never ran. like taking a broom and sweeping the legs out from under it. i have also hit a deer with a 300 weatherby mag the damn thing too of like a shot with a single leg near blown off and the opposing short completely destroyed. and yet it was able to run over 150yrds befor laying to die finally. goes to show power without good shot placement means very lil.
Good man
I can't figure out how you only have 85 thousand subs, You sir deserve a shit ton more subs. Your videos are more educational than half of the vids on UA-cam. Keep up the great work Paul.

There's a good idea for a t-shirt. "Lets ask the meat target."
Let's go crunch the numbers.
We're at the range today so please ignore any gunfire you might hear.
Seems okay to me.
To answer that we have to back to the 1800s.
You be the judge.

Have a picture of pork chops on the front saying "pork chop pectoral" and on the back "high tech fleece bullet stop." Put that on a fleece range coat and you would sale a lot I'm sure.

Few things get me as excited as a new Paul Harrell video!
I pee all over myself when Paul comes out with a new video.
I like his videos cause he tells it how it is. no boosheet!
Nothing better than watching one of Paul Harrell's videos at midnight

I got this one for breakfast before work which is also nice.
I'll third that!
First thing in the morning. Well early noon but i have a day off from work.
@LordWhis Buffalo Bore has some pretty hot 38 super ammo.
Don Hoggard they said 40 has more recoil than 38 super
@StringerNews1 imo if you've got a 1911 just get it in .45
@StringerNews1 The old late 1930s loading was 130 gr at 1300.
Please permit me to offer two comments:
"new and improved high tech fleece bullet stop"
Love it..... Love everything about it.
This is easily one of my favorite videos that Paul has done. Is it weird that I've watched it like 4 or 5 times
Happened to me too- face it: It’s time to look at 1911s in .38 Super. 😎
dude ive rewatched all his 357sig videos at least 3 times each
Thanks, Paul! Another interesting video. I would have thought the 38 Super would perform better than it did, but that's why your videos are so educational. The Sig-Sauer ammunition was very impressive.
Breakfast at Paul Harrel's: "Are those pits in my orange juice?" "No, just bullet fragments, leather, and pork bits."

What’s muzzle flip?
Lol muzzle 'flip"
+Chef Boyardank
Muzzle = the tip of the barrel (where the bullet comes out)
Flip = the upwards movement of the gun when the bullet is fired.
ferna2294 yeah.....
How can anyone thumbs down a Paul Harrell video !?! Best channel on UA-cam by far . Another great video!
I enjoy, you videos more then most. No swearing and professionally laid out..nice work
Never thought anyone would argue about the ammunition you use. I’m here for the reviews and research you do for us. Love the content
Remington better start sending you ammo. If they know what's good for them. Dun duuun duuuuuuuun dramatic reverb! Straight to the point, informative and sometimes amusing videos.
More like .357 vs 9X25 Dillon. .357 vs 357 SIG would be no contest.
I'd imagine it's hard to get a company to send you free ammo without any strings attached.
Would be interested in seeing a comparison between .357 Sig and the .357 Magnum, just for fun.
Now those two are very close in powder capacity and chamber pressure and both seem to out perform other pistols in self-defense.
Chamber pressure for the .357 magnum is 35,000 PS___ 357 Sig is 40,000 PSI..they are not anywhere close!
toddy2519 Maximum chamber pressure doesn't mean all that much. .357 Sig has a Max pressure higher than a 10mm (35, 500 I believe), but the 10 is generally a more potent round.
Very informative. Good performance cross section. Recoil and muzzle blast from the 357 Sig would be breathtaking if shot indoors.
I appreciate Paul's unaffected and objective analysis. He gives pertinent, qualified information and doesn't let any personal preferences come into play in this vid. It is obvious that this man shoots a lot and well, and has studied and considered all aspects of what he's doing. Chris Chiampo Something is wrong with your keyboard. It is capitalizing every word. Very strange.
i was watching at 2 am also!
Holy Book Title Punctuation Batman !!!!
Your usual great comparisons. Now I have to go back and watch your .357 Sig vs .40.

Another in depth and excellent video from the pinnacle of professionalism. Thank you addressing all of the salient points needed in this presentation. I enjoy the .357 Sig but the cost of ammunition is prohibitive to say the lest.
Paul answers the important questions with tests and experiments not just words but actions and numbers. Nice work keep it up.
I had to use my pistol chambered in .357sig in a defensive situation and yeah it’s very effective. I’m surprised this round hasn’t caught on. It’s better than 9mm, more versatile than 10mm and .40.
Price price price.
If you don't mind me asking, what were the effects?
Mind expounding?
Paul's thoroughness and clear presentation of results never fails to impress.
Another great video. Thank you.
Really enjoy seeing you shoot over the chronograph also like the " boring parts " where you just talk.and of course the meat target
I get my g31 barrel for my g22 on Thursday and I already have my Underwood ammo, now I'm excited to shoot some 357sig.
steve lemieux I did this a few months back.
Brad Erickson absolutely!
Zundfolge Sig Sauer's Elite Performance ammo is pretty good, but, imho, Underwood Ammo's 10mm ammo is top of the line in both performance and price.
Excellent as always. Its no wonder that there is more and more talk about your channel on various gun forums.
I have shot a deer with my glock 32 in 357 sig. I used underwood 125 grn bonded rounds and it is a devastating round. It blew the lung out of the entrance hole and it died very fast.
I can't wait for the winter solstice so Paul's videos will be well lit again. thanks for another good one Paul

Sig makes the Fastback Nightmare in 357 Sig too. ua-cam.com/video/R6s1x3ANceQ/v-deo.html.
Thanks for making the .38 Super Auto vs. .357 Sig video.
5.7x28mm!!!
1 MAN ARMY Guzman 5.7 mm is fast but has nothing on the power of 357 sig. could be interesting though.
Not if you kill them first, I have a feeling most sheep dogs in America can outshoot most cartel members and dirty cops.
Mo... Mou... MOUSTACHE!
CasInbound Maybe he's getting ready for another old west video?
Here's hoping.
Saw that
Guns and 'staches were made for each other.
Very yes please :)
No shave November.....
Paul is so thorough i really appreciate the work he does in these videos. seriously underrated youtuber here.
Underwood makes some absolutely insane .38 Super +p self defense ammo. I'd love to have seen how it stacked up.
Andrew H
They also make a 125 grain 357 Sig that clocks 1600 in a 5.3 inch barrel
Andrew H ...problem with Underwood is that it's loaded to the max. Going to be hard on your gun, maybe hard on some shooters, not really the best for comparisons.
Do you need a ramped barrel to shoot the Underwood self defense ammo that is hotter?
Very nice video.i again request please do 7.62×25 tokarev vs 357 Sig I am curious about this.
surbhit sharma I have fantasized about that too, and why not throw 5,7 in the mix
BKT Kutistaja yes sure 5.7 and 22 TCM also.
surbhit sharma Great suggestions
Been enjoying you videos and learning for some years now. Just never comment. Now going to see your comparison of the.357 Sig vs .40 cal.
SIG P229 357Sig Rockz!!! 😎👍🇺🇸
Yep. Agree 100%. It's my carry choice as well.
Paul, Sig Sauer makes an excellent 1911 chambered in .357 Sig, it’s called the 1911 Fastback Nightmare Carry. A co-worker of mine just purchased one, and loves it.
Paul doesn't have a Glock in 9mm, which is one more reason to love him even more.
Why?
Glock snobs. That's why.
@ I've held the glock (40?) In 10mm and it felt pretty good, very long barrel it actually looked pretty cool in my opinion
@@connergarlock771 I have the Glock 20 in 10mm.
It's my favorite of the 10mm Glocks.
A bit smaller than the 40, but bigger than the 29.
Spot on Paul, as usual. Thank you for all your informative videos. I don't think we as viewers say that enough.
I typically get my .357 Sig ammo online. It's becoming cheaper and more readily available, and to shoot .40 all I have to do is a barrel swap.
While I believe 38 Super deserves much more respect among pistol manufacturers, the fact remains that 357Sig, despite othe oddity of being a bottleneck case, has demonstrated maturity and consistent power and performance.
.357 Sig is pretty sweet. It's nice when something is actually as good as promised.
That is rare, isn't it?
THANK YOU!! I've been trying to find some quality analysis videos on the .38 Super for a long time now. This is the *first* one that delivered any substance whatsoever. And comparing it head to head with the the .357 Sig and 9mm really added some useful insights. You're the best, Paul!

Is $13.99 for a box of .357 Sig a good deal?
Pretty darn good. I see a lot of boxes at just under $20 for a box of 50 .357 Sig.
Lol.
I see what you did there.

Hmmm....what about 10mm vs 41mag?
The capacity for the 41 mag is higher and the pressure maxes are nearly the same. It would be good to compare with 30 shots each for velocity and then shoot the "meat target.
Warning; Odd comment: Paul, I am impressed with how well your blood flow is. I can sense how well your heart is working when you show us the bullets in your cold hands. If those were my hands, they'd be somewhat purple and I am younger than you.
Paul forgive me but my curiosity is killing me. Have you ever shot a chrono by accident ?
Yes, once.
I don’t believe you Paul
That was on my mind too lol...
The Rule is you should be in control of your gun at all times and know what your shooting at so I would say No Paul Harrell is to good of a shot for that!
Yes but he was testing the effectiveness of 9mm on a chronograph
Paul, love your videos. The best on Utube. I hope you keep them coming.
Short winter days make outdoor video a bit difficult.
Thoroughly enjoy your cool laid back keep it simple and clear style, just as much as your content. Great job.
Im surprised that the regular green and white box ammo was in the 1400 fps range for the 357 sig. Almost all manufacturer say 1350.
Steve Saephanh
I was pleasantly surprised as well...
Looks like it's time for a .357Sig vs .357 magnum comparison and time for me to get a .357Sig barrel for my Glock 23
Mid-MI Sage Try Underwood 40 in 155 grain...582 ftlbs at the muzzle...or you could try their 135 grain, but that's on you!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
357sig 124 grain was made to mimic the 125 grain 357 Magnum round the 357sig was made to have a larger round capacity then 6 or now 8 in a 357 . This was before the 1911 Coonan 357 Magnum
@@brent3711 I think the Coonan came before the 357 Sig cartridge.
