Take limit used to be 10 in Victoria Australia, it's now 5 and there's heaps more around! I read through the comments and saw yours about using a plastic tool to reduce the damage caused to smaller ones. It's now also law to use one there too!
I'm only a recent beginner but I've never thought about doing a karakia. That's something I'm going to take on board. Give thanks and ask for guidance and blessing before a dive. Good way to take time to become present in the moment.
just found ya channel bro. for a young fella i admire your values on taking a feed not ya limit its great to see. my dive spot out of kawhia was fantastic for kai was looked after by a great man but soon as he died within a year 3mile of coastline was stripped. last time i dived there i did the whole coast seen 1 kina everything else gone
Thanks heaps Darran! Yea it's pretty sad to see people killing off their own stocks which I know is happening everywhere. Hopefully this Kaupapa catches on and the fishery can replenish in areas that are low.
Absolutely bro, first of all learning about the weather conditions, water visibility and ocean swell is a primary skill, you need to know what conditions to watch out for to keep safe, so keeping a close eye on conditions is key for a diver. Download the windy app, met service and NZ tides on your device and watch it regularly. Don't be too proud and try to dive past uncomfortable depths too early, just dive to which you feel comfortable and don't feel pressure to go deeper, you will here others say " I dived 10+ metres " and may feel like you have to do that asap which is not true, there is plenty of Paua, kina, crayfish and fish at 5 meters. Gaining a deeper dive comes with time and you need to take small steps gradually over time to do it ,I'm still a very shallow diver in comparison to others, 7-8 mtrs is comfortable for me but I can go deeper and it is not too comfortable but something I am working on🙌I know others that can dive 20+ metres deep and they love to flex😂You can do a FREEDIVING course as well (something I need to do). Equalizing is very important, learn how to do it correctly (UA-cam). Make sure your gear is comfortable and fits you right, the more comfortable your gear the better your experience and breath hold will be, more time under water is more productivity. Most of all just get in and enjoy it brother
I'm not bashing my paua any more. Into boiling water 1min 1 at a time then cool. I do outside of the shell but I believe in the shell is okay. Have you tried that? God bless the paua. Not many around Auckland.
Yep, a quick dip in boiling water is good as! If I can't be bothered/don't have the time, BOOM, smash them suckas lol. Paua is a staple here, I think we take it for granted, they are absolutely everywhere, and all legal too
Bro, you are the future, we must all follow your lead, take enough for a feed..greed will destroy our plentiful sea..as has happened elsewhere..rape of a resource is unsustainable..
I'm glad these Paua were large enough to not even measure at all, they were an obvious half size over the limit so boom off the rocks they go👌 smaller ones yes, your want to be careful with those ones, and using a plastic knife can reduce the damage done
Sadly, look at Wellington that has been raped. That is a place that needs a Rahui on it. What about the commercial divers.Bro the hua is the best part of the Paua. Just saying
True, I've heard the Paua stocks are fading in the north which is sad. Our shores have an off limit to commercial divers and they can only hit certain areas that they have to rotate in order to replenish the stocks. Love me some Hua fried with onion in butter🤤 but I don't eat it that often because I heard that it's really bad for your stomach, apparently the hua holds a lot of toxins that it tries to filter, unsure of this claim but have always been sort of health conscious about it. I always try to utilize as much of my catch as I can, shell included🙌 Churr
Got any stats or evidence to back that up?? I'd love to see it? I can proudly say and know I have never taken more than I should. You have a very warped perspective to judge me by my race Scott. Hope your negative view changes in time✌️✌️✌️
Awesome video and respect for taking only five. Great example for everyone 👍😁

Kia Ora Lance, im glad you support my kaupapa, kaimoana is a taonga for us all, if we protect it, it will be enjoyed by the future 😀
Bro, you are the future, we must all follow your lead, take enough for a feed..greed will destroy our plentiful sea..as has happened elsewhere..rape of a resource is unsustainable..
Thanks bro, just take what we need aye!
Wouldn't it be much better for the species if you measured them before dislodging them from there resting place.??
