- The saying goes "West is best" and on a good day the West coast is unbeatable! This video is of one of those magic days where there was warm clear water and the ocean was alive with crayfish, fish and paua - myself and Chace headed out there and made the most of a stunning day diving the west coast of Northland New Zealand...

What a catch. We have some pretty massive crays over here in SW Victoria but you guys sure have them stacked up. Pretty awesome.
Yeah the west coast over here is usually closed off due to the big swells that batter the coast most of the year so the crayfish don't get the pressure that they get in other areas...Cheers!!!
what a gun, 4 in 1 dive, pretty impressive, my uncles used to wear cotton fluffy tops, and just let the crews grab on to them, but not diving that deep...another wicked dive bro keep up the good work...Getting there Chase👌👌👌

Beauty of a spot, there’s a heap there, I've heard of this guy who worked on a crayfish boat, as part of his pay he got four cray's at the end of the week, pretty good score. Keep up the content bro, love it.

If there was one thing about spearfishing that I was good at it would be catching crays - must have got it from my dad as he commercially free dived for crayfish back in the 60's and 70's! Cheers!!!

No filter, just using a gopro hero 9 for the vlog footage and a hero 7 for the underwater footage. No colour grading done in edit either - I find the gopro cameras to be excellent all rounder's...Cheers!!!

CRA2 fishery between Waipu (just south of Whangarei) and East cape has a limit of 3, I think it may even be just 2 now. Which is algoods, let the numbers build up a bit aye

It's a pity most people throw away the rest of the body but only keep the tail of the crayfish. There's plenty of meat and juices still available in the body, you just have to get dig in. Great video, love the abundance of the kaimoana.
I find most people that I share crayfish with get stuck into the head as well, If they only eat the tail they don't get given another one lol! Cheers!!!

Nah that’s exactly where you are. The line of trees up the hill, the gate across the road, even that pine tree behind you and across the road. They all match. Plus it’s the only estuary with a bar crossing and rocky shoreline immediately to the south. When you said west coast of the northland it wasn’t hard to locate. Cheers.

I've been diving this area for 15 years and there has been no noticeable decline in stocks despite me taking my limit when I can, The limits are set for the sustainable harvest of sea food and provided you are not out there taking you limit every day it's all good. It is also worth noting that I would only dive this area maybe three times a year...Cheers!!!
