Yeah! I feel like it is unfair to expect fashion designers to also be professional sewists. Each has a distinct set of skills and talent involved and its awesome if you can do both really well but why should you have to be a pro sewist to be a fashion designer? No one expects an architect to also be a builder. But yes you def should have at least some knowledge of the construction process if you are going to be designing it👍

But, my teachers on university they say things EXACTLY you say, like: stay away from "fashion inspirations" in the moment of moodboard or start a new creation. And thats the true more true that i learned! Love your channel!!!

I'm here watching because F.I.T. requires I make a mood board to inspire illustrations for their fashion design admissions. And being a fine arts major in community college currently, I have no idea how to make a moodboard or draw fashion sketches. This video taught me I was going about my mood board all wrong this week. I picked 2 photos I took from my trip to Morocco and wanted to create a board focused on the bold colors I saw and geometric prints. So I attached to a foam board my photos of the gardens I saw with bright colors in Morocco next to geometric shapes from magazines of dishes and furniture. And I laid out strips of fabric next to it. I basically confused my friend who is a graphic designer professionally and uses moodboard for work. I skipped all the steps and went straight to the board with an idea in my head lol

I've been struggling so much with the technical part, specifically in the research book/moodboard. some how I missed the sense completely on how to do it. my college is one of the best at fashion design and yet you managed to explained it better to me that my teachers. you deserve heaven 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

I just watched a bunch of your videos, don't know why I find them so interesting even though I'm a graphic designer/illustrator and have nothing to do with fashion but your creative process it's so inspiring
After 18 years I am finally getting my ass in to gear, facing my fear of failure and just enrolled in a Fashion Design course. I have to say a massive thank you you videos are massively helping me! I have watched a few now feel less overwhelmed. My biggest worry though is that I used to be great at drawing, especially fashion figure however, I had a Stroke almost 3 years ago which affected my right side and I struggle a bit with my fine motor skills, I can still write and draw but not as well as I used to.... Will this hold me back in the Fashion world?
Drawing is the last thing you should worry about when designing. Since technology is so big these days, you should focus more on sewing and pattern making (in my opinion)

Hi Zoe I just felt like letting you know that I appreciate your time and effort the whole sharing what you know is hard but highly appreciated. Many things you have said I was already doing and had no idea it was learned in fashion school. I out of nowhere decided to have a little shop and sell handmade items and noticed my mind was craving to be able to express and so far I’ve done well but I would like to educate myself more so I can do better. I started in 2008 but lost almost so many family members that I threw myself into depression and quit designing and sewing and over a decade after I’m barely getting my shit together but getting back into it. Thank you for having a channel. It helps a lot I’m getting more organized with my ideas now, I’m your student foreva now! Thank u!

i think as opposed to actually feeling like i need a starting point bc i'm lost, i needed a starting point and an example of a process because i'm almost TOO eager to just immediately dive into what i believe the design process is and start sketching clothes and pinning things to a model and poking my fingers raw with needles haha so what i'm trying to say is that this video was SUPER helpful bc it really grounded me in the reality of what the design process is actually like and i feel a lot more confident and more so prepared to start a project now that i know this info. thank you so much for teaching this!!!

I have been working on surface pattern designs and recently I have been drawn to designs that work for forms, so your channel is perfect for me to learn more about design for fashion. I am not really into wearing/keeping up with fashion clothing for myself, but for surface design I am really enjoying it!
Im a digital media student pursuing a career in motion graphics, vfx and video editing. This video was extremely helpful.. especially since I've never done a mood board and am still having difficulties understanding what a mood board should look like. I so get this! I'm a graphic designer and some of concepts transfer over. I was was able to take a few fashion design courses in college. I have a degree in graphic design but I've always wanted to be a fashion designer but there wasn't a complete program in my area that I could attend and afford at the time I was going to school. Now I'm determined to follow my dreams! I can't thank you enough for this Zoe! I found this video a few months ago but didn’t watch it due to the length of video but that was a huge mistake. I wished I watched this sooner because I’ve did a lot of things wrong with making my mood boards the past two years I’ve been in fashion. For some reason it was so hard to come up with ideas and I was wondering what I was doing wrong, the biggest mistake of mine was finding inspo from already made clothes and designs. I have a much better understanding on how to make mood boards now thank you!! (my teacher will be pretty mad at me for procrastinating but hopefully she understands that I did my research this time and I won’t mess up anymore!)

I’m brand new at this but for some reason I’m really drawn to woven fabrics. I like the feel of the non-stretchy thickness. I like the feel of how vintage clothes hold me snugly together. I’m so excited to learn how to fit them with other textures

You're not alone. I have lots of viewers who aren't in fashion. I think there are lots of parallels in the design process across fields though.

I so get this! I'm a graphic designer and some of concepts transfer over. I was was able to take a few fashion design courses in college. I have a degree in graphic design but I've always wanted to be a fashion designer but there wasn't a complete program in my area that I could attend and afford at the time I was going to school. Now I'm determined to follow my dreams! I can't thank you enough for this Zoe! I use to read Verbal Croquis (by way of Fashion Incubator)a few years ago and I was stoaked when I saw that you were teaching tutorials online!!!

I found this video a few months ago but didn’t watch it due to the length of video but that was a huge mistake. I wished I watched this sooner because I’ve did a lot of things wrong with making my mood boards the past two years I’ve been in fashion. For some reason it was so hard to come up with ideas and I was wondering what I was doing wrong, the biggest mistake of mine was finding inspo from already made clothes and designs. I have a much better understanding on how to make mood boards now thank you!! (my teacher will be pretty mad at me for procrastinating but hopefully she understands that I did my research this time and I won’t mess up anymore!)
