- When I start out with a new client, the first thing I do is look for any pictures of them where I think they look great. “Is it a color? A silhouette? An attitude?” I ask myself. Once we pick the looks that have worked, we talk icons and create mood boards. On this episode, I discuss this process, go into my appreciation of odd color combinations, and highlight a few women whose style I admire, including Debbie Harry, Sade, and Tina Chow.
I also FaceTime with my client Dakota Johnson, who loves a good mood board as much as I do. Mood boards, she tells me, “are like playlists for physical things.”

Hi, Kate, this was fantastic and made me think about how I dress these days. I love glamorous clothes: fitted suits, heels, exquisite jewellery, dresses. I used to dress like that when I was a single working professional. Now I am a Mum and, often, my days are filled with work and then picking up children, children’s activities. I find myself reaching for trainers and flat boots and I do not feel myself. Would love it if you made an episode on striking a balance to dress functionally for your life while not losing the glamour. Thank you in advance! 🙏

I really enjoy your videos, I have worked in different fields in the fashion industry in Los Angeles as well as a jewelry designer and now I am in school back in Sweden where I am from, to become a fashion designer. Styling to me is what brings it all together and it is also the thing that is the hardest to me, watching your videos is really inspiring! Kate I wondered if you could tell me about any good App's for Mood Boards? I've searched high and low and can't find anything. The reason why I don't use Pinterest is because I find it difficult to organise and edit the pins as well as all of the verbage that is connected to a pin, too noisy!! And the fact that I can't add my own text is so annoying!! Any help would be hugely appreciated XOX from Ireland
I used to just use folders on my desk top and screengrabs or saved / scanned photos. I find Pinterest easier bc you can use it on multiple devices and share the folders. I wish I had another suggestion!

I’ve been trying to figure out how to do these, on Pinterest or elsewhere. I don’t know who I want to look like, don’t have your vast knowledge (or any knowledge) of what people looked like or how they dressed.
Just save any photo that you like and look at the suggested photos like it.
