That's an obtuse statement. The creativity in The Rain Song surpasses even that of Stairway. It's in an unusual open tuning, and Page had to figure out all those parts accordingly. Stairway is in standard tuning thus easier to "put things together. The flow of The Rain Song from it's opening chords to the finger-picked outro is simply that of genius.
Led Zeppelin to me is my dad. When I hear Led Zeppelin, I feel my dad beside me. I can't imagine anything making me feel so close to him. I still have my father, I'm only 25, he's turning 56 this year. I know a day will come that I will either cling to these songs in rememberance, or be absolutely unable to listen to them at all. Only time will tell, but for now, I will simply enioy. I love you dad.
Dude, the fact that you not only thought about what you wrote, but actually wrote it out in a public space represents the strong closeness you have with your father. I am 1 year younger than your father and grew up with the same music. I hope that my son, who is 8, feels the same towards me as you do your father when he is 25. Your father has done well. Cheers to him! I'm happy for you both.
I am the exact same way, my best memories with my father was dancing around in my living room when I was a little kid with my father watching the song remains the same CD every week. His favorite band is zeppelin and he understands the beauty in their music as do I.
I am 57 and have 2 teenage boys. This is such a great tribute to your dad. He has successfully raised a loving son and now you share his love of music. There could be no greater gift for a father, unless perhaps you learned to play Rain Song on the guitar as well as the gentleman in this video and play it for your dad when he is feeling beat down.
It also might just be the most ridiculous thing I've ever stumbled upon. How is anyone on Earth this talented at guitar? Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.... what a talent.
In my opinion one of the most beautiful acoustic melodies ever written. Also one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs. You have a lot of talent and taste for sure.
Yes, and this is not an easy tune to play properly, this guy nailed it but he's an accomplished guitarist/musician,this is not for beginners but that's stating the obvious I think
I posted a critical comment when I was stupid and immature (a long time ago). I just wanted to say what a brilliant musician you are. Your musical intuition is excellent. The little flourishes you add always complement the melody of the original song. Your interpretations are head and shoulders above most guitarists on UA-cam.
This is better than Led Zep themselves. I've been coming to this channel since the beginning. Whenever I come here I think of better times back when the internet was an interesting and calm place without all this hate and craziness and polarization that people bring about everyday on social media. Everything was new and people were curious and spontaneous like Mr Tony here. No mega production, no eternal seek for views and likes and red and blue and green leds and dark rooms and controversial podcasts and whatnot. Only pure expression from everyone who had something to say. This was the beauty of UA-cam back then. Whereas now, I don't even know what I'm doing here.
This is the video i watched a thousand times that made me pick up the guitar again after not touching one for over 20 years !! I been playing every day since and today is 4 years
10 years old and it never gets old, a hairs breath away from a million views and every single view is pure self indulgence by the listener, Bellissimo !!
Amidst the chaos and turmoil, when the world appears to be ablaze and disarrayed, this melodious composition never fails to transport me to a tranquil state of mind. ❤

Hey troubleclef, im just visiting old videos that helped me when I was learning to play guitar. Here I am 6 years later, and your video is still nice to watch and listen.
Haha, I was here in 2009 and this song was out of my league. Here I am again 4 years later. Giving it a go. This song embodies everything I love about music. The ability to emit emotion through sound. Perfect for a cold rainy day like today.
I still remember the day this album came out - Houses Of The Holy and I ran out to buy my favorite bands new album. I brought it home and put it on my Dads turn table and cranked it up to hear Song Remains The Same for the first time, I knew they had done it again and here I am 56 still loving them 41 years later although I have been listening to them about 45 years, I was in the 8th grade but know kids were different in those days. I had a deep appreciation for Led Zeppelin. If you weren't alive at the time when Zeppelin and so many other bands of that era were in their prime I don't know if you can truly appreciate it because it was much more than the music, it was a time and a era that only happened when it happened and I'm just thankful I was there. Not to talk down to anyone that wasn't but if you were there then you know what I'm talking about and yes even at 14 years old I was lucky enough to go on later to see Zeppelin twice. Then Page and plant, then just Plant and then The Firm which was awesome and I was in the front row. Concerts then were magical and stony as hell! again, if you were there you know what I mean. Great cover! You brought back a lot of memories for me and inspired me to play this song myself. It must feel good to know people are still watching and enjoying your video ten years later after you posted it. Thank you.

Recently I've played to my dad, he's on his last days... It's one of his favourite songs ever. Thanks for this incomparable interpretation, my father rejoiced to hear it by my hands.
This cover alone makes me feel like I’m in a pure white and never ending place and it’s just this guitar cover playing and as soon as the video ends I come back to reality
Pretty sure this dude is one of the main reasons I ever took guitar seriously in the first place in high school-particularly this video hit me hard and his Martha My Dear cover. 12 years later and im still at it :) Glad to see this spring up on my recommendations again ❤️
Lady Dorleac; LoL; one of my first thoughts, just halfway through maybe the first few lines, were, "ooh, this gentleman could play me to sleep *any* day! Then, upon becoming more and more speechless - as he played on and on - and as my inner ears were being sucked out of my head by the incredible sound that my eyes were trying to reconcile to this man's adept fingering ... I felt foolishly ashamed at my first thought up there. But, between you and me? Mmm; I'd still adore that. What a virtuoso ... a master.
I don’t think I’d say he plays better than Jimmy Page. In my experience the expression “comparison is the thief of joy” -Roosevelt holds true. I would try to appreciate both of these guys for their great talent, and I’d even venture to say that the gentleman in the video would never think he’s better than Page and maybe even vice versa; I think they would respect each other’s talents. That’s just my two cents, I think this cover is beautiful.
I've been developing this song for awhile now. I, too, use the G-Suss-4 tuning. I am able to sing along with it. I can sing 'in tune'. But, my voice doesn't have a very good natural tonality. I thought I was pretty good on the guitar part. But, you're WAY ahead of me! You are the standard I hope to someday achieve. Songs like this are proof that songwriters in the modern era are right up there with the ancient masters. Great Job!! I will reach your level eventually. Thank you for the BENCHMARK!
I'm probably responsible for about 200 views. It NEVER gets old. Ive been a Zeppelin fan since hearing them in '75. Your work here is flawless and I hope it will become an inspiration to a few more musical generations. Well done!

Excellent technical precision, and it's wonderful to just see a video where the comments are (for the most part) actually devoid of toxicity and meaningless flaming. Lovely work sir. :)
I've been watching Mr. Clef for so long. He plays Jonesy's, Parts Bonham Parts, Pages Parts and Plants parts...I've been playing this song for 20 years, nobody can play it like Mr. Clef! Thanks for the video
You are simply amazing man. I watched a lot of your vids but this is by far the most beautiful one you do. The finger work is as spellbinding as the song.
Awesome cover. Just want to point out to those who are saying this is better than Jimmy himself, what makes Jimmy the greatest musician ever is his ability to write a song like this. Truly amazing!!!
@troubleclef ....You have been an unsung guitar hero of mine for a few years now. I do a few of your versions of tunes live and people love it. Yellow brick road, 3 by Steve Hackett and more. Thanks man. True craftsman.
Second that, including "Three by Hackett"...I'll check out "YBR"...revisiting this beautiful piece for the umpteenth time after forwarding the link to a friend (who replied "Amazing..."). And I'll be back again and again, because this version is better than Zep's. (Dodging the lightning bolt).
Geez, the more I listen to this rendition the more I realize how much of a masterpiece it is ~ I'm following you dude... lol. By that, I mean that I'm playing this the same way. I like Jun's version live version on the SG double-neck also... but all the little nuances and connecting notes in this version are awesome. Makes it so much more fun to play. I can just hear Robert singing .. which is more than I can say for most of the other versions on YT ~ the ability to silence the guitar and then project it.. this is what I've been talking about to a "certain" YT "compilation" guitarist who is NOT understanding this concept... regardless of what P.O.S he is playing on... good stuff... good shit.
Matters not the facial expression... not in a UA-cam video, unless you wanna be a comedian. This man has managed to grab the essence of this piece, which, trust me, is rare. Most guys learn the tuning (if they're lucky) and then just go through the motions.. NOT "E" motions, just motions. This man is obviously engrossed in the song and I can't help but wonder if he might just be reliving some days from the past in his mind, when he was younger, wilder... and possibly at a Led Zeppelin concert. No complaints or criticisms here, and I too play this song.. much the same way. "Variations on a theme" he could have pulled this off any way he wanted to and you would have known as a musician that he understood Jimmy Page. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and this is of course, the internet, but this man, had he been thrown into a Led Zep contest with "Rain Song" as the point of focus.. would more likely have won. Good job buddy. I doubt this man even reads his comments. He knows how he plays. He doesn't even need feedback (no pun intended)
Covid 19 brought me here, after hearing another cover of this tune. Impressive cover, have listened twice and each time can imagine Jimmy page’s voice. Thanks for the listen.
After listening to this brilliant version for ten years, I finally got around to downloading the audio. I ran it through Logic Pro, eq’d it a touch and added some hall reverb. It sounds like you’re playing Madison Square Gardens, and you should be sir. Thank you.
Oh, man; Tim Stevens; how I would love to hear your re-mastered recording of this. I'm sure it would be an unforgettable experience; evoking at least one tear. Some of the most breathtaking ones are ... and this gentleman and his talent are just that. Unforgettable.
monkeylogique Wish you the best, my friend. When I was a teen, I intended to go to your country, Canada... but my life gone another ways... wo we are. Congrats
This is a video that me and my friends come back to whenever we're having a really nice time. Can't believe it's been more than 10 years listening to this piece and still can't get enough
Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin gave us this soul comforting gift, and this Young Man here playing, has been touched by the Musical Gods to give such a spellbinding rendition of this Masterpiece! Bravo Sir! For the Gods have embraced you!
This song, not Stairway To Heaven, is Page's greatest composition.
You wouldn't ever say that if Stairway wasn't mainstream.
