The fact that this song easily stands on just the guitar part alone is a testament to the genius of Jimmy Page.
Very true 🙏
@DavidBarrettTrio
Jimmy's critically acclaimedcompositions destroy anything by anyone.
I laugh out loud when they try to pimp those "one trick" blues players over Jimmy.
Shows you how unintelligent most people are
@@bradhuskers Yeah, you're more intelligent because you prefer a musical style/artist. Your subjective preference is better than their subjective preference and it makes you smarter. Makes sense dude lmao
@@skylarkesselring6075
God you have a low IQ.
Forget about what I like or what you like.
It's about critically acclaimed compositions.
Jimmy's compositions are ORIGINAL and vastly superior to anyone's.
If you had an ounce of intelligence, you'd understand that fact.
Yeah, but was always hopin to hear Robert Plant pipe in
The Rain Song is the most beautiful melody I've heard in my whole life.
So me
Agree
@@toourspeakingshadows it doesn't have the epic solo though
The best song I ever heard. Maybe the most beautiful thing in my life. Ten Years Gone is second for me.
Those are powerful words. However, I concur with your emotions. When I was a young teenager and heard it for the first time it touched my soul in a way I cannot describe. I listen to it often to go back in time to that moment. I can almost be in that exact time and place. There are other songs that can do this but not like this one. Beautiful cover by the way...thank you.
The proudest moment of my guitar playing career was learning to play this song just this week, I’ve been playing 45 years
Excellent! For some strange reason I never really listened to Led Zeppelin. I remember having played since I scratched my whole name correctly on the back of an acoustic guitar, I was so proud of it. My father, not so much... lol. I learned off of you tube a few yrs ago and must have played it hundreds of times in a row loving every time... My wife grew tired of it and so I stopped playing it for yrs. I think thats gonna change. Haa ha ha! Good for you Doc!
i been playing 30 years and i still havent got around to playing this 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
I was the same. been playing for about the same time and play loads of Zep songs throughout that time, i played the Rain Song in standard tuning but it always felt like a cheap imitation, until I stumbled on the correct tuning and a tutorial on you tube, To play it now in all it's glory is heaven, How Page could write a song of this beauty in such a weird tuning is beyond me, a musical masterpiece
Congratulations Doc,I am just learning to tune guitar and unsuccessful, bit nit given up hope, you sound very inspiring
And I bet you found its a lot easier to play than you imagined it would be. The key is getting the somewhat alternate tuning set.
As a veteran with "issues" this song/video is one I can watch that helps block everything out for 4 minutes and 48 seconds. It's one of my go to videos for some peace sometimes. Thank you. I appreciate you 👍
Wow, thank you, that’s great to hear.
Check out the other cover by the girl and guy playing it in the park
thank you for your service - I hope you find peace more consistently.
Same here.
same
Well done indeed sir. This, for me, is Page's masterpiece.
agreed
For me, this is the entire band's masterpiece. Pagey's stunning alternate tuning work is perfectly accompanied by JPJ's bass lines and strings arrangement on the mellotron, Plant's lyrics and vocals, and even Bonzo's brush work all equally make this song unique and memorable. IMO, Ten Years Gone is truly Page's masterpiece.
he's got too many to count to be honest.
@@photoscottsb Yep This, 10 years gone & No Quarter are all neck & neck for me.
Ten Years Gone as well
Brilliant.... I bought my first guitar two years ago at age 56. I've been watching how to videos trying to teach myself how to play. This is the song I'm trying to play. I bought a second guitar to leave in tune. My wife asked why not learn something easy to start with? I told her, if I learn only one song I want to learn this. Two years later I almost have it! 😂
I agree with you. But I expect your wife is slowly going mad, trapped inside on rainy days, listening to you play the same song over, and over, for two years.
Paul , don't give up keep playing. It took me a almost 2 weeks to learn the rain song . Learning songs like this will force you to push yourself. I'm sure you found the tuning to play this was weird 😆
Learning to play guitar is difficult, frustrating, sometimes it even hurts, but it's the most fascinating feeling when you can get to play something right, it's worth every day of practice (and they will be many)
Paul I did exactly the same, bought a second guitar to leave one in tune. I'm still struggling with the song but hopefully with enough practice I'll have a decent version in by fall.
It's DGCGCD open tuning.
Easy to remember: Don't Go Chasing Girls Cos its Dangerous :-)
No, "The G Remains the same"!
@@widows-sun-369 Oh man thats a good one!!
Live is EADADE.
Musicians truly amaze me. How does someone come up with a melody like this, then sit down and find a way to bring it to life on a guitar. He has even changed the tuning on the instrument to suit the sound/tone in his head! I'm gobsmacked at the talent involved. It's interesting to note that most of the strumming is done with upstrokes.
This is the kind of writing that set Page apart from everyone else in the rock world. Eclectic taste and a willingness to experiment and change styles, even after having massive success with another style
Totally agree. Page was multi textured guitarist with skills on almost all areas of the guitar.Rain song, Black Mountain Side and A few other Number BronYaur-a-Stomp show his taste for folk, but i always found Rain song quite a Jazz guitar influenced number with so many chords found in jazz ballads. I think a guitarist called Bert Jansch was Page's hero in terms of folk guitar

Makes me weep for the future at all the low IQ's who try to say that Jimmy was a thief who stole from blacks.
Today's Democrat party actually teaches their low IQ voters to be racists.
Jimmy Page is by far the greatest composer in rock music. David's rendition is a thing of pristine beauty.
Paired with John Paul John
Sir, my dad has been battling cancer and now sepsis for awhile and I’ve played ur version of this song everyday for him.
It’s absolutely flawless in every way!
Thank u
Thank you, I hope it helps in some small way, music can be healing for sure, especially great compositions like this one - all the best to your dad ❤️
The thing is Page plays it effortlessly, it is incredible
Well, he is Jimmy Page 😉
So spot on, I keep waiting for Plant’s vocals to come in. Really exquisite.
Should have 2 Billion!
This is the best solo acoustic performance of the piece. Absolute mastery.
Thank you Timothy !
You should check out notorious funks cover of the song . This is great also
@@jessejohnson418 ...and then listen to the version by Chiara Kilchling.
@@broeheemed32 I just checked out your recommendation of Chiara Kilchling. I could not believe what I heard. She is the brightest star I think I have ever heard. Playing and vocals. I also watched more of her songs. Thank you for sharing her with us!!!
@@broeheemed32I was just about to recommend her and saw that you already did... she blew me away with her cover...
Such a beautiful piece.
I learned to play this when my mother was leaving this world. Helped me with the grief. Crazy thing... right after the funeral i was in the car with my daughter and the Rain Song came on right away. ❤
The second season you are to know. ❤
Nailed the feeling, nice!
This song is all about the subtleties and he has them all down! Each chord progression emphasis in exactly the right place and the emotion just moving through his body! Most excellent! I can play this song and it is more difficult to get than people give it credit as I consider it to be a Jimmy Page masterpiece!! Bravo my friend!
thank you!
Beautiful, who doesn't love this song
I remember when this first was released and it was such a shocking change from the hard rock Jimmy Page was famous for. It turned out to be way ahead of its time and is now timeless when played like this. Great rendition, thanks.
PERFECTION!
I just keep coming back to this. It’s simply majestic. Beautiful song and a very soulful version.
I always leave one of my acoustics tuned for this song.
Played beautifully, well done!
Ha, me too
Same man
It's DADGAD tuning, isn't it? I have a Les Paul Studio with Min-E-Tune, and I've long intended to try it out in DADGAD.
Alastair Archibald I believe it's DGCGCD
@@KC-vp7wn Yes sir correct.
Best rain song cover I've heard.
I rewatch this video over and over, month after month.
Thank you Jerry, you can check k out the link in the description for the download / streaming version - thanks!
This always reminds me of my only love of my life.Still miss her every day and I listen to this song when I feel the need to relive that part of my life. Thankyou so much Jimmy Page❤
Thank God for the replay button.
I like how you left the slap from the room.Classy.
its midnight at home everyones asleep and this was absolutely beautiful.
When I first started to watch this I was thinking 'ah, just another pretentious tool', but then it really kicked in. Great job.
Still Smashing!!!
This and 'Thank You' are perhaps two of the best songs of Led Zeppelin.
"One song only" tuning for this very special piece, beautifully executed by this artist. ❤
Wow! That song was actually playing on the radio while I was racing motocross across the country...what a time that was. Sir, that was most perfect in every way, you should be proud.
Excellent, one of the best covers of this song that I've listened to
awesome, best i've ever heard other than jimmi himself
Should have 1 Billion Views!
He is excellent !!!! 5 star !!!!!!!!! After listening twice, as good as Page as well !!!!!!!
Absolutely incredible interpretation of an incredible song, I watch this video at least twice a week
Great job! In my opinion, Zeppelin was the best band that ever existed on Earth.
I wish I could like this twice!
SUPERB SO SUBLIME😊
Jimmy Page …..The Wizard ! The Maestro ! The Mythical Guitar God !
The Paganini of Hard-Rock’n’Blues !
Simply the most prolific genius of the XX century !
Iconic riffs, virtuoso solos, daredevil of improvisation and a melodic master!
What else do you want,!….?????
Someone who doesn't steal other people's songs and claim them as his own?
Beautiful
You have the stamp of a professional Sir. Thank you .
The Rain Song is a masterpiece, the sounds, the lyrics, the guitar and piano, apparently it takes a whole orchestra to play this beautiful song on the studio recording by Zeppelin. I'm not surprised, a masterpiece takes a lot of work. The Rain Song is and always will be, my favourite Led Zeppelin song
Didn't they just use a moog, strings or whatever they call it?
I looked it up.
Jimmy Page- electric guitar, acoustic guitar
Robert Plant- vocals
John Paul Jones- Mellotron Mk. II, EMS VCS3, Steinway grand piano, bass guitar
John Bonham- drums, percussion
the thumbs down people have no ears
duane dilling I agree they have no ears. But I’m sure what they dislike is that it’s not like Jimmy plays it or you should used you chording like this. Those my friend are the “thumbs down” people.🎸🎸🎸
His timing/feel sucks. That's why the thumbs down.
@@BoomerBends Let's see your version
I have rather large ears actually.
Anyway...phrasing is about breathing. Suffocation, although related, is another thing entirely.
@@BoomerBends can't play it
Absolutely stunning, perfect, Journeyman Master player, Never get tired of listening , Bravo David !
Well done, Mate. That song puts me in a peaceful place where I can slow down and reflect.
I love it when Led Zeppelin rocks hard but The Rain Song is still probably my favorite and you play it beautifully, Sir.
Jimmy would be proud!
Page is my favorite studio guitarist, you undoubtedly nailed it spot on ,thank you
Well articulated.
Nothing misrepresented.
Very well executed.
Amazing version
God this song almost stops my heart with its beauty.
I've watched endless videos of covers on this song. Yours is easily the best one I've seen. Cleanliness, pace, emotion, emphasis, respect for the original, artistry, and beautifully video'd. Gorgeous work. Thank you.
Much appreciated, thank you!

As good as the playing is,
Your mere presence is as equal,
but the black canvas painted on the wall takes the Cake.

Well played. Such talent worth watching and listening.
so much deeper than country music!
Glad this popped up on my feed. Used to be able to play it but haven't tried it in years. Must get it happening again.
Capturing the “feel” of Jimmy Page is hard to do, especially on a song with multiple guitars. Beautifully done!
Sir, I know TRS inside and out. Your version is one of the best I ever heard.
Thank you for the generous comment, much appreciated Stephen, I have an entire JP show posted here, and TRS is played on my double neck, thanks for listening ! ua-cam.com/video/x_Y4ufUE2fM/v-deo.html
* *Stephen Adams* * - This is a wonderful cover as well. I *believe*.....it may be standard tuning though. I'm not 100% certain. Give it a listen and maybe you can inform us. ----> ua-cam.com/video/SDu5iztF4VU/v-deo.html

Hauntingly beautiful interpretation of this masterpiece, David ! I’ve listened to this everyday since discovering it last week!
Thanks for listening! 🚀
Undoubtedly brilliantly played, one original version however, was, according to a friend who passed away recently, though it possible, after myriad variations that the unconventional tuning used included an another string tuned to C as far as I remember ?This friend devoted his life to this Art .I deeply miss him. If only he'd recorded something, unfortunately, he always thought he wasn't quite good enough; he was wrong.
Rest peacefully William Robert Darby , formerly of Sussex, UK.
Yes, the 4th and 2nd strings are tuned to C - thanks for listening Charles

This song just popped into my head and as a result I stumbled upon this. I know it’s old, but very good rendition. That right hand thing in the final chord was super cool. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
This song truly is amazing. Hits deep...you never forget it! ✌️
Such a gorgeous cover of a beautiful song and piece of music from my personal favorite band.
When I play this song for people who think Led Zeppelin was nothing but loud and heavy distortion, they are blown away and are open to hearing more from them.
Now I can play this version for them and have them blown away all over again.
Thank you for sharing this with all of us.
I always feel emotional everytime i hear this song
Page ... Sir James Patrick Page .. what can you say? I bow down? Thank you for the demonstration of somethin Bach can appreciate
This song reminds me of all the water color painting videos of a city street during the rain.
Every note played clearly and as intended!
You are a machine with your attacks. You felt everyone of them I can see. Thanks for the ride my new friend.
Again , MAGNIFICENT redition! BRAVO! 🎉❤
So beautiful! well done, sir.
Best version I've heard. So rich as to make the others sound as if they've skipped notes.
Have a go heroes,.....I flippin love em....x
💘 LOVE THE BACKDROP
Think even James P Page would enjoy that. Very nicely done.
Thank you 🙏
Damn if this isn’t one of the most beautiful compositions ever
Majestic.
My wife walked down the aisle to this being played on acoustic by one of my best friends who is a musician.... amazing❤
Not sure what it is but I can be transformed into the time frame when I first heard this tune just by hearing the first few lines. I'm so glad I had the good fortune of having such great music during my youth. This stuff is just sssoooo darn good. I brings tears to my eyes it's so darn good.
Well done, I think that is the best rendition I have heard to date.

Awesome. Jimmy would be proud
I believe that is my all time favorite Ked Zepplin song! Kashmir runs a close second.
Extraordinary attention to detail, beautiful phrasing! Haunting.
Such a cool unique tuning . I sometimes tune my acoustic into it and just create for hours . So inspirational.
I love this song because I can practice emphasizing certain chords, just something about the amount of feeling one must put in this song while playing it is amazing. Excellent cover
I have been trying to nail this in standard tuning for decades. This is the very best I have seen, standard tuning or otherwise.
Marvelous .
fantasticly pure perfomance
Nice playing to an iconic song and band
It is the springtime of my loving
