The jump factor from the Thorens even came through compressed UA-cam digital audio. The Shindo sounds like a no-feedback amplifier (less damping but better timing) so the speaker impedance curve would really affect the overall frequency balance. With the DeVore O-93's it doesn't sound like an issue.
Your sound system sounds amazing very clear sound. My problem is there are just too many good record collectors making good content on UA-cam. The bald guy, I think his name is Norman Maslov is making some good videos of late. His collection is off the scale large. When it comes to collecting music Ken you are still number one to me. Ooo Lots of good things to look forward to on your channel. I know it takes you a lot of time to make content for your channel. Thank you for keeping this channel going. Hi Ken, Love your Shindo system. I am considering getting the Montille with the Aurieges MM and Shindo ICs and cables. I would like to use my current Manley Labs Chinook SE Mk II phono stage instead of a SUT as it allows the use of most MC carts and sounds great. I would be using this with my Audio Note AN-E SPe HE speakers. I noticed you are using a phono stage instead of a SUT and was wondering how you liked it and whether it is significantly affecting the sound you would get using the Shindo MM with SUT in place of a stand alone phono stage.
You caught my ear with the Thorens table, can you list the name of shops that can work and upgrade them. I have seen these before at some auctions but thought they were very old looking and outdated! I have a McIntosh MC240, The Tube M71 Tuner and C22 Tube preamp so this early 1960's McIntosh might pair well with a Thorens table.

Not having the money for a TD124 or the like, I have to be happy with Dual idler drive 'tables (primarily 1219 and 1229Q; I also have a 1019). They sound better to me than I believe they should. If I DID have a TD124, I would want a flat platter, not a warped one as seen in this video. Warp wow sucks just as much as does that caused by off-center records! That's an advantage of the Duals I use --- the spindle can be removed so that records can be precisely centered. That makes them sound a Lot better.
Hi, Ken Do you happen to know if the Thorens MKII motor has similar torque to a Garrard 301? Art had the MK1 like you but he preferred the 301 slightly more because of higher torque. Maybe Thorens changed that on the MKII…

Comments are self posting. I have not heard the Cornwalls. I have the Fortes, far different form the Cornwalls and the Devores. Nothing sounds like Horns, but you know that ! The Fortes are alive, dynamic, neutral and invigorating. The O93s are sweet, more refined and warmer bass, but not more extended bass

It wasn't a matter of cheapness or cosmetics. I live on the top floor of a seven floor walkup on a very noisy Manhattan block. Cars and trucks everywhere, everything shakes. This floor is like being on the end of a whip. The Kuzma weighs 100 pounds. I needed an extremely massive, dense and heavy platform. No store bought stand would match this. Do you have any idea how much 15 cinderblocks weigh? It's insane. Then I top off with 2x4s cause wood is perfect damping. Thus, I have a perfect isolation platform that is solid and doesn't move. A commercial stand would have been the cheap and easy way and accomplished nothing.

Ixtayul When you look at those cinder blocks and Baltic birch ply Jelco might seem like a weak link indeed. But to be fair. Jelco is a great and not ridiculously expensive tonearm. A lots of guys use this arm (Rega or vintage 3009 SME) on Garrards or Lencos or alike. You could go nuts with exotic arms but I don’t think that’s the point.

Hi Ken! I‘m searching for a good sounding cartridge for my Technics SL1210GR and Cambridge Audio AX35 (reviewed by Steve Guttenberg). The Amplifier has only an MM input. So, a MC is not possible without any other Equipment. Have you or something other, a good Idea? I have a Ortofon 2m Red, but i think theres a lot better sounding cartridges for Jazz Music out there. I’m listening only to Jazz. -Alex
I tried a friends Nagaoka and it blew me away. Around $350. Apparently, there's a cult of followers for the cart. More than the 2M but a superior cart.

Drop the needle oon a not turning record, turn the volume up, now stamp your foot on the floor 10ft away from your kit. You will hear a thump from the speakers. Try Townshend Pods under a sheet of birch plywood under your turntable. Isolation down to 5hz for not so big dollars. Great reviews. Huge and fundamental improvement. I have 3 Lencos I've been restoring and I couldn't agree with you more in regards to the idler wheel turntables.
One thing though; you really need a new flat platter on your Thorens 124.......

I haven't done a hard AB but the 96s seem to have more definition and tighter bass, overall.

An sme v would give you an old company feel. But origin live. Do fantastic arms are great price.
The 850/950 is a significant improvement. Get a bigger armboard and move to 12". You will love it. Improved spaciousness and more organic sounding.
